Life With Gohmert: Obama Sent “3,000 Military” to Catch Ebola and Bring It Back to the US

The dumbest man in Congress rants again
Wingnuts • Views: 30,726

YouTube

It’s just bizarre how Texas congressman Louie “Terror Babies” Gohmert pretends he’s concerned about President Obama’s safety at the same time as he spews insane conspiracy theories that Obama sent 3,000 military personnel to Africa so they could catch Ebola and bring it back to the US.

That’s not all. In this clip posted proudly at YouTube by Gohmert himself, he also claims the Secret Service’s problems are caused by “political correctness,” and says he wants to shut down the government again (at the same time as he denies he wants to shut down the government).

It used to be that conspiracy theorists were laughed at.

Every two years, they get a chance to say, “This clown is dumb as a post!”, and every two years, they reelect him.

So, yeah.

re: #2 GeneJockey

He was re-elected in a landslide. The only way Louie’s leaving office is if he does something somewhat sane and gets primaried because of it, gets caught with another man, or he dies. Viva Gerrymander!

There has been no president in history that has inspired more pathetic lies and paranoia about his intentions than Barack H. Obama. None. People were vicious to Lincoln, Roosevelt, and many others but there was never the out effort by so many elected officials to spread dangerous lies about their intentions. I have zero doubt whatsoever in my mind that if Barack Obama had been president during 9/11 or Pearl Harbor that he would have been accused by the Republicans in Congress and their asssole friends in the media of having given the order himself.
Had to repost this from downstairs because it needs to be said.

14 Kragar  Oct 2, 2014 11:12:37am
“The military is not trained to go catch Ebola and die,” he insisted. “They’re trained to go in and kill the people that want to come back and kill us. The president’s priorities are all mixed up here. All you got to do is shut down traffic in and out of places where there’s high risk of Ebola.”

Actually Lou, there are entire units in the military who are trained to build and support other operations beyond combat missions. Just an FYI for you.

Rand Paul is saying this same line of bullshit.

Speaking to conservative talk radio host Laura Ingraham, Paul questioned whether the Obama administration should carry out its plan to send 3,000 troops to Ebola hot zones in Africa.

“You also have to be concerned about 3,000 soldiers getting back on a ship. Where is disease most transmittable? When you’re in a very close confines on a ship, we all know about cruises and how they get these diarrhea viruses that are transmitted very easily,” he said. “Can you imagine if a whole ship full of our soldiers catch Ebola?”

These people are profoundly, dangerously cynical. They say stupid things like this to keep their inbred redneck base pissed off at the blah guy in the White House, and they lead to panic and paranoia.

There have been 90+ instances like that before the Texas case proved positive for Ebola. We’ll see many more.

The big issue is why the hospital didn’t isolate/evaluate the patient at first contact. They could have reduced overall exposures had they put him in isolation sooner.

I continue to draw only one conclusion, which is that the hospital learned he was a foreign national and immediately proceeded to dump him on the street to avoid eating the bill for any tests.

From what I’ve seen, the issue was the nurse who interviewed him failing to pass along his travel history. These things often break down at the level of individual followthrough.

Doctor doesn’t ask because the doctor assumes the nurse would have flagged it if the info was there. Nurse didn’t flag it because the nurse was tired/overworked/didn’t understand the importance/whatever. We still don’t know if he highlighted anywhere that he had recently been in direct contact with someone who died from ebola. Pretty sure that it wouldn’t have been overlooked then.

+1 for good practice and being conscientious about things like that

On the flip side, when I went to the ER and eventually had my appendix removed, the doctor who saw me first gave me her very clear opinion that this was not appendicitis and she really didn’t think I needed some of these other tests, because it was just an ovarian cyst.

It turns out I had some of those too, but it was definitely appendicitis. I didn’t have most of the symptoms but I had the one really classic one (rebound pain). Thank goodness for extra tests.

Not all doctors and nurses in the ER are always on top of things, for whatever reasons. I can imagine something slipping through the cracks.

In their defense, lower belly pain in women, especially young women, is very diagnostically tricky. You wind up getting a pelvic exam, then there’s the CT vs. ultrasound debate (usually ending with ultrasound because GYN stuff is more common and there’s really no downside to ultrasound besides discomfort and time), then that comes back negative and you get a CT anyway and by the time that comes back you’ve been there for several hours already, etc. etc.

Rebound pain is a late sign though, and definitely something that catches our eye.

Sorry you had that experience.

re: #104 The Mountain That Blogs

In their defense, lower belly pain in women, especially young women, is very diagnostically tricky. You wind up getting a pelvic exam, then there’s the CT vs. ultrasound debate (usually ending with ultrasound because GYN stuff is more common and there’s really no downside to ultrasound besides discomfort and time), then that comes back negative and you get a CT anyway and by the time that comes back you’ve been there for several hours already, etc. etc.

Rebound pain is a late sign though, and definitely something that catches our eye.

Sorry you had that experience.

Thankfully we skipped the ultrasound and went straight to the CT.

It was not the highlight of my college experience, but the end result was what it needed to be and I get that it’s a rough job, especially when I looked around the waiting room. And I was out and back in classes two days later (sigh).

Peak wingnut doesn’t work for me.

Peak usually means at the top of something. Sounds kinda positive.

Maybe something like ‘reaching new depths’ or as ‘low as you can go’ for terms that fit bottom seekers.

ANCHORAGE - Video courtesy Nathan Smith

The U.S. Coast Guard is responding to a fire at a natural gas drilling platform in Cook Inlet near Nikiski that forced an evacuation, authorities say.

Four people were on the Hilcorp-owned Baker platform when the fire was reported to the Coast Guard around 8:30 a.m., said Petty Officer 1st Class Shawn Eggert. All four were airlifted out and were uninjured.

Balsa wood desks are apparently very lightweight and extremely flammable.

Might be your best option.

Nope: balsa wood is non-hygroscopic so it won’t soak up an accelerant. Its very low density means that it sort of burns/melts at the same time which results in a very unsatisfying blaze.

“Will?” That assumes that businesses are obligated to reward productivity and effort. In the real world, the question of whether you get a raise is set to a schedule, meaning no matter how hard you work, you could be waiting 6 months to a year before your boss considers whether you deserve a raise or not.

Ayep. Wages were decoupled from “productivity and effort” in 1981 and have been so for the past 30+ years. Wages for execs have skyrocketed while the guy on the floor has seen his own wages stagnate or drop.

147 A Mom Anon  Oct 2, 2014 1:12:47pm

It honestly should be illegal for a sitting Congress member or Senator to out and out blatantly lie to the American people on TV, radio or in any other form. He’s stirring up hatred and fear and he is an official position to do the exact opposite and CHOOSES not to. This shit has gone without direct consequences to those doing it for too long.

Beyond elections, I think it’s time to begin contacting the media outlets, repeatedly if needed, to let them know the TV or radio is off, and why. This is so irresponsible, stupid and wrong and it has to end.

It’s getting to me personally. I often find myself holding back tears over some of this crap.

I remember the country coming together after 9/11 briefly, and then it began turning ugly. And I DO hold the GOP and all their little water carriers directly responsible for it. I began seeing “Liberal Hunting License” stickers on cars, anti liberal signs popping up in yards, and it was FOX “news” on TVs everywhere you went. I’ve been screamed at over wearing a Rosie the Riveter t-shirt that I bought years ago at the Pearl Harbor gift shop because the idiot doing the screaming thought it meant I was a communist Obama supporter. In front of my frightened autistic son. I had more than one confrontation over that shirt. Because the seeds of ignorance have been sown and grown into a fucking forest.

I hate living in Metro Atlanta now, I wish we could go today. And it’s because the GOP and their holier than thou bunch of asshole followers won’t be happy until the entire South is a fucking wasteland. If I could leave I would, but our economic situation has us stuck here. For now at least. I am just SO tired of pretty much every single person I know hating on poor people, being racist, sexist and anti anything that would make life better for the vast majority of people. I’m having trouble being kind and forgiving of this shit, and it pisses me off because that’s not who I am.

Unpossible! The Market (ALL HAIL THE MARKET!) rewards productivity and effort, so clearly 90% of the workforce has grown progressively less productive, with the remainng 10% taking up the slack and the top 1% doing most of the work!!!
