There’s some good news on the Ebola front today; first, the patient in Washington DC’s Howard University Hospital who was admitted with Ebola-like symptoms does not have the disease.

And another patient in Maryland has also tested negative for Ebola:

Meanwhile, Shady Grove Adventist Hospital in Rockville, Maryland, said a patient that had been tested for possible Ebola does not have the disease.

A statement from the hospital:

“Following further tests, monitoring and consultations with infectious disease experts, our medical team has determined that the patient in our care has malaria and does not have Ebola. We appreciate the excellent work of our clinical team including physicians, nurses and staff, in handling the care of this patient. We also appreciate the partnership of county, state and federal agencies on this case.”

Meanwhile, in Dallas where the only confirmed Ebola patient so far is hospitalized, the 10 people who had closest contact with him have showed no signs of developing the disease.

Dallas (CNN) — About 10 people are at “higher risk” of catching Ebola after coming into contact with a Liberian man hospitalized in Dallas but have showed no symptoms, health officials said Saturday.

The group is among 50 people being monitored daily, but the other 40 are considered “low risk,” said Dr. David Lakey, the commissioner of Texas department of state health services.

The nine people who had definite contact with the Ebola patient — including family members and health care professionals — have been monitored and show no symptoms or fevers, Dr. Tom Frieden, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said Saturday.

“We have already gotten well over 100 inquiries of possible patients,” Frieden told reporters. “We’ve assessed every one of those … and just this one patient has tested positive … We expect that we will see more rumors or concerns or possibilities of cases, until there is a positive laboratory test, that is what they are.”
