Right Wing Blogger Chuck C. Johnson Suspended From Twitter for Posting a Private Address

Smear merchant shut down

Chuck C. Johnson posing with his best friend

Wingnut smear merchant Chuck C. Johnson can’t say I didn’t warn him:

What happened: our pal Chuck decided he needed to post the private street address where he said someone who was exposed to the Dallas Ebola patient lived. Then he followed up by threatening to post the names and addresses of children he said were also exposed.

We don’t know for sure this was why Chuck’s account was suspended by Twitter, but it’s probable, since Twitter’s rules on this are very clear:

Private information: You may not publish or post other people’s private and confidential information, such as credit card numbers, street address or Social Security/National Identity numbers, without their express authorization and permission.

Get ready for a massive groundswell of support from the right wing for their boy Chuck, wrongly persecuted by the commie liberals at Twitter. “WE’RE ALL CHUCK JOHNSON NOW!”

UPDATE at 10/7/14 1:20:37 pm by Charles Johnson

Chuck has confirmed the reason for his suspension. In a post written by someone else so he’ll look more professional, Johnson whines that it was all a plot by “far-left wing trolls” to silence him and stop him from performing his courageous journamalism:

Johnson continued: “The move to report me to Twitter and thereby suspend the account was a vindictive one done by far-left wing trolls who would rather see Americans sick with ebola than have journalists do the necessary job of informing the public.

“I’m amused that so many people would think the GOP establishment as capable enough to silence me,” Johnson joked.

Johnson is also seeing a silver lining. “In the hours or days before Twitter restores my account I’ll have more opportunities to focus on Gotnews and my book which is due later this month. My wife will be pleased that I don’t have the time suck of Twitter to distract me from other pursuits.”

In the meantime, he encourages his supporters to contact Twitter @support and ask for his reinstatement. “I’m very taken by all the supporters who are calling me, emailing me, and tweeting about me,” Johnson said. “Thank you for all you do.”

UPDATE at 10/7/14 1:39:24 pm by Charles Johnson

Guess who Chuck is now blaming for getting him suspended? GotNews Founder Charles Johnson Got No Twitter.

After reporting the address of a Dallas woman under quarantine for the Ebola virus, gotnews.com editor-in-chief Charles Johnson has been suspended from Twitter. The social media site deems it a “violation” to post the private and confidential information of others. Johnson’s punishment, according to a story published on his site Tuesday afternoon, is that he has to read “Twitter Rules” and say he understands them. Twitter will then remove the offending tweet and reinstate him.

The woman is Youngor Jallah, who was caring for Thomas Eric Duncan, who has the virus. “She took care of him,” Johnson told The Mirror in a phone conversation Tuesday afternoon. “She carried his Ebola-infested blanket. I reported that they’ve (authorities) have abandoned her. I reported her address on Twitter. All these lefty trolls flipped out and said I needed to be suspended.”

Among those “lefty trolls,” explains Johnson, was another Charles Johnson, who apparently hates him and aided in his suspension.

UPDATE at 10/7/14 1:54:16 pm by Charles Johnson

And Chuck’s account has now been restored, after he deleted his tweet with the private address and told Twitter he understood their rules.

UPDATE at 10/7/14 2:14:01 pm by Charles Johnson

And right on cue, Chuck is now talking about suing Twitter.

Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy. The smear merchant apparently got caught up in the most essential parts of journalism - reading the fine print.

Private information: You may not publish or post other people’s private and confidential information, such as credit card numbers, street address or Social Security/National Identity numbers, without their express authorization and permission.

Being a journalist or a “journalist” doesn’t exempt you from the rules.

Charles C. Johnson’s Twitter Account Suspended

I LOVE that last two paragraphs at TPM….

A prolific tweeter, Johnson spent much of Monday night on the social media platform criticizing Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, for a lack of foresight on Ebola’s arrival in the U.S.

When someone questioned his authority on the matter, Johnson defended his expertise, noting that he’s built rockets since the age of six.

Twitter Suspends GotNews .com Editor’s Account For #Ebola Journalism

GotNews .com editor in chief Charles C. Johnson had his Twitter account suspended for reporting the address of Youngor Jallah, a woman who authorities failed to put under Ebola quarantine and who took care of Ebola patient Thomas Eric Duncan.

“I have a responsibility to inform my readers about public health risks, especially when the media will not,” Johnson says, who points out that his journalism helped alert authorities to the breakdown in quarantine. “Without hours of posting about Youngor Jallah, who was running around Dallas with an ebola-vomit soaked blanket, authorities got back into contact with her and provided her with food after making her wait for two days.”

34 lawhawk  Oct 7, 2014 1:10:40pm

re: #16 RealityBasedSteve

There’s also this bit:

Johnson, who served as a contributor at the Daily Caller before launching gotnews.com, has planted his flag in the middle of some of the year’s biggest stories, jumping from the Mississippi Senate runoff to the shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo., and, most recently, to the Ebola outbreak.

Unpack that paragraph:

1) Subpoenaed by the state, and has refused to address - in violation of state law.
2) Made bogus and baseless accusations about Brown having been involved in a murder as a juvenile and sued to get those records released. The state refused to release, but reiterated that he had not been involved in any felonies as a juvenile (IOW CCJ’s sources were flat out lying). He’s refused to retract his claims.
3) Professes knowledge beyond that of noted pathologists, virologists, and Ebola experts on how to deal with the Ebola epidemic.

Does nothing. Knows nothing. Professes nothing.

In the words of Michael Bolton (the other one), “CCJ’s a no talent ass clown.”

Classifying some families, and especially their children, as of lesser value should be repugnant to all those in this nation who profess to believe in “family values.”

Dear judges: if I were not in a happy marriage and had some desire to have children, I would completely be offering to have yours right now.

Off-topic, but I’d rather read this than UPCHUCK updates.

Walking Home from Kindergarden

I’m sure I’ve told this story: when I was in kindergarden, I got out
earlier than my older brother did from grade 4 and I hated having to
wait for him. I asked my parents if I could walk home by myself. They
thought about it and said that I could, provided I didn’t talk to
strangers and I didn’t cross the intersections by myself.

Around 6 pm, the cops found me wandering around and around on the block my school was on, trying to find the route home which didn’t involve crossing the street.

After that, I was allowed to cross by myself.

This is from a site with Usenet tales by James Nicoll.

But classifying “those people” as of lesser value is the American Way!

Also from the decision:

The official message of support that Governor Otter and the Coalition wish to send in favor of opposite-sex marriage is equally unconstitutional, in that it necessarily serves to convey a message of disfavor towards same-sex couples and their families. This is a message that Idaho and Nevada simply may not send.

Tornado season is all over up here.

Ohio has had to worry about them all the way into early November. One of the nastiest outbreaks I can remember was in November of 2002.

There was a hail storm that hit Columbus and dented my VW GTi to the tune of $4000 and screwed up the slate on my old home’s roof which did not make the insurance company happy. Also a lighting strike hit and blew one of my computers up as I was shutting it down. It was a backup system that I didn’t have on a real good surge protector, just one of those line protectors. IT was never right again.

I thought I would lose all the windows on this house that faced west. The hail was about an inch round and it was coming in like fast balls. But somehow the thermal windows I have held up.

Here is a link to a wiki on the outbreak. 83 confirmed tornado in a 36 hour period. Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky and Ohio. I’ll never forget that.

If he’s going to continue to be stupid enough to do that then he’d better be damn sure he has the correct address, because people have been harassed by assholes like him posting incorrect addresses (same name, the person in question moved out) and having stalkers show up.

He could find himself on the end of a very nasty lawsuit, possibly criminal charges.

There’s an assumption that he would care at all if the address was right or wrong or that people would get harassed for simply living at an address (fact checking is not his forte so who knows who lives at this address?). As for his being sued…what would he have to offer as compensation? Nada. The dude lives in his mother’s basement.

Just looked at one of the maps again. While the number of states is somewhat more than half, those states have by far most of the population. Most people who want one can have a fabulous wedding, without much travel.

Woah. I just read that Canadian train derailment is near the town of Wadena, Saskatchewan, about 12 miles west of the town.

I have distant relatives there - cousins and the like. I’ve been to Wadena several times over the course of my life. Nice little town, actually. Most of my cousins still live there and in the surrounding area, but I know one of them moved to Moose Jaw a few years back.

The WSJ had the most current map (before the 9th Circuit ruling) - since it indicated the states in the 4th and 10th Circuit that would have to comply (and before a couple of those states threw hissy fits claiming that they wouldn’t comply in any event).

The tide has turned permanently against those who oppose gay marriage. There’s no turning back, as much as the opponents want to turn the clock back to the 1600s.

By the way, I was reading the article on Chucky’s site:

“I have a responsibility to inform my readers about public health risks, especially when the media will not,” Johnson says, who points out that his journalism helped alert authorities to the breakdown in quarantine. “Without hours of posting about Youngor Jallah, who was running around Dallas with an ebola-vomit soaked blanket, authorities got back into contact with her and provided her with food after making her wait for two days.”

Two questions:
1) Did his “journalism” consist of anything more than posting about something he read on another news website?

To repeat an earlier question - does anybody still respect the US police anymore?

Not a workable question. We have such a wide range of police at a staggering number of levels of professionalism, as well as layers upon layers of organization. Some are exactly what they should be, some are abysmal. That’s probably less true in Europe, with smaller jurisdictions and much more ‘national’ police forces.

If you want a wild night of discussion, ask that the next time you’re dining in Italy.

Buckley, on the other hand, is just an Ethnic who presumed to sound like a Brahmin. No redemption, just sin.

Did Buckley ever admit to being wrong about calling civil rights a Communist plot by the way? That’s a good point. Honestly I am not a big fan of the attempts to white wash his legacy by those who use him as an example as an “intellectual conservative.” And frankly I still feel the only reason he chastised the Birchers is because he felt they were making people like him look like conspiracy theory nutjobs rather than having any real issue with their ideology.

The large pharmaceutical companies that typically invest millions of dollars in research will not do so for diseases like Ebola because there is no profit to be made from the potential patients, who are mostly in the poorest countries in Africa, said Weaver and Dr. Thomas Geisbert, one of the country’s top Ebola experts.
…….
As for the lab’s need for money, Perry said, “We need a really engaged federal partner,” an apparent swipe at President Barack Obama.

As Congress has slashed funding in recent years, research took a heavy hit. The National Institutes of Health took an across-the-board $1.5 billion cut due to the 2013 sequester, the massive government-wide budget cut.

is that bork, the well known pliable nixon tool and generator of dyspeptic bloviation?

The one and only. Here’s a summary of Bork’s essay:

Supreme Court cannot rightly choose “fundamental values” because that implies some decision-making authority that is independent of the court’s constitutional underpinning. For cases where textual/structural arguments don’t apply, Bork argues against virtually any decision grounded in ethical or natural law concepts.

The only problem Josh has is that SSM has been decided on a clear and unambiguous textual issue, that the 14th Amendment Section 1 clearly applies to the States and explicitly says that they cannot “… deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.”

Josh will now reiterate that I’m retarded and that the intent of the old white bigoted windbags who created the 14th Amendment should hold, that they never, ever intended it to apply to same sex marriage. While I’m fairly certain that they didn’t intend for it to cover it, nonetheless they wrote a rule in plain, unambiguous English that clear does cover it. So fuck them.

Also, they’re all dead now, so it’s way past time time that their unstated irrational bigotry died with them. If they wanted to enshrine it into the Constitution they had plenty of opportunity, and missed it.

The stratosphere isn’t likely to warm, in fact it has cooled off because the CO2 redirects some of the radiation back to Earth as it passes heat energy to O2 and N through conduction.

What is happening is the jet stream is being affected by the height increase in the tropopause over the Arctic. The jet stream dips farther south pulling cold air from the Arctic and because of an increased amplitude takes longer for the jet stream to cross the continent.

It just feels like there are so many people who miss that last leap of logic, that when confronted with an Islamic extremist and a Christian extremist, if asked to identify which is the characteristic that makes them more dangerous, the answer is the same for both.

Claiming that it is religion for the first one and extremism for the second is bigotry. This isn’t hard.

Just heard from my friend in Lubbock, the one whose electric bill I’ve paid a couple of times recently. He is an honest working person in that grifter infested “conserftif” hellhole and therefore has trouble paying the electric monopoly’s exorbitant charges, and dealing with their merciless collection policies (water is cut off at 3 weeks past due).
Something else he has trouble with, or has had, is health care. His lepertarian employers do not provide health insurance, though they do loudly declare themselves to be a Christian company, advocating self reliance, prayer, and personal responsibility while pursuing every federal contract available and making use of every government service, hand-out and freebie, from public roads to police protection and stimulus tax breaks.
My working friend needs Lipitor (simvastatin) for cholesterol control. He did without for several years because it was $160 a month while Merck’s patent was in effect. The cost fell dramatically when generics because available so he is back on it, at $6.78 a month.
He also signed up for Obamacare and got a good policy for a cost to him of $30 a month. Today he was at the doctor to get his prescriptions renewed and have a bunch of diagnostic tests done. His plan has a large deductible but the company is run by smart people so preventive medicine, like the tests today, is covered 100% from the first day. His cost today was zero.
If Republicans succeed in their increasingly obsessive and desperate effort to repeal the ACA, there will be blood in the streets.

This is one of the most expensive Senate races in the country, but Hagan is leading by a slim margin of 4%, if the polls can be trusted.

Oddly, there are more a lot more Dems registered in NC than Rs, and it’s mystifying how the crowd now in Raleigh ever got there, although even the Dems can be somewhat conservative in certain areas of the state.

That’s a highly localized warming of the strat and contributes to the polar vortex (PV) which is the cold Arctic air pulled down by the jet stream I mentioned above. My comment about the strat cooling down was a reference to the global average temp of the strat. Just like the rest of the atmosphere there are local variations.

I guess the main take away of this is that the little ice age which was probably caused by the Maunder Minimum isn’t likely to happen because the PV doesn’t cover the entire northern hemisphere at one time.

That is not just a Twitter violation, but it should be totally against the law without the person’s consent. This is someone who is “exposed,” or so he says, and thus under quarantine. You certainly should pay a big fine or go in the pokey for broadcasting that address. If people under quarantine are being named and shamed, they will not report their exposure. They will deny. I never doubt that anything that has occurred once could not occur again, given the right conditions, maybe just somewhat differently.

From the climatologists I’ve spoken to, their belief is that a little ice age isn’t probable even though we will likely have some extreme cold spells that hit farther south and last longer than what we’ve become used to since the ’70s.

There is a lot of interaction out there so it’s pretty difficult to be precise over short time periods.

This guy is, allegedly, a top conservative thinker.
God save us all.

All you have to be to be a top conservative thinker is an angry, racist, homophobic, fire-breathing asshole. No thought required.

Pretty much. Frankly for me it was telling that for years that Rush Limbaugh was considered the most influential conservative. Not a genuine thinker but the guy whose claim to fame is popularizing the term feminazi and who called a 13 year old girl a dog.

No you don’t. Not when you know what you’re talking about.

It’ll be nice when people realize that whether someone is predisposed to be an extremist (and, you know, there are reasons we focus on extremists and fundamentalists when talking about religion) is a much more dangerous indicator of their willingness to trample over the rights and lives of others in order to bring about their ONE TRUE RELIGION and less the religion involved.

I look forward to that day.

In the meantime, the Islam is the worstest derp continues on aisle three.

re: #368 wrenchwench

I wish I had more time for the derpslap. Last week I got into a discussion on FB with a guy (friend of one of my sibs, I think) who said Muslims don’t condemn the extremists enough. After a few rounds of the usual, I ended with, ‘Maybe Muslims just don’t give a crap about what you think. At this point, I know I sure don’t’. I enjoyed posting that, but was not proud of it later.

Good grief that crap gets old. Thanks for the derpslapping, ladies. Sometimes I just don’t want to deal with it anymore, y’know? It can be unhealthy.

You absolutely shouldn’t have to do it on your own. Or even have to do it.

Oh, hey,, you know what made me LOL recently in my book on antisemitism? It was pretty much standard practice for European Christian rulers to charge Jews a special tax just for being Jewish. Jizya!

There were also a bunch of other restrictions (like them having to dress a certain way or wear specific colors, esp. yellow—I didn’t know that went back that far), and no matter how long they or their families lived somewhere or what they did to serve the country (like defend it in wars) they weren’t allowed to become citizens and have full rights—at least not until well into the 19th century.

Even then, in most cases they were granted citizenship only grudgingly (and they still faced a ton of bigotry). It’s weird how the people who are always squawking about how awful Islam is seem to overlook fairly recent Western history WRT to intolerance.

Whoa…you must be getting the warm air moving into the cold front that currently is pissing all over Ohio this afternoon. Truly a gloomy day.

Warm air? Cold front? What’s that got to do with anything? Tornadoes are caused by God’s righteous anger at gay marriage! Don’t question me, I used to set fires when I was six!

(In all seriousness, I hope everyone in the region stays safe.)

re: #394 HappyWarrior

hey, it’s a common GOP tactic, look at the states of Arizona and Texas for more illustrations, places where districts are drawn “fairly” Dems prevails, state legislative districts are drawn with the aid of a Spirograph show overwhelming GOP representation. That’s how they roll.

Ah, memories! (#50) I’m in that thread about four times, though I can’t always tell who’s talking. I’m pretty sure I’m the one who says something that James tops with a punch line about how he got punched (well, metaphorically punched — in reality, punctured, incinerated, lacerated…).

A bit harsh on Chuck Johnson. I mean, Sarah Palin was allowed to post the President’s address also……
