Dutifully passing on some fear-mongering propaganda he picked up from (where else?) Fox News by way of Republican Rep. Duncan Hunter, the legendary Dumbest Man on the Internet, Jim Hoft, yells:

US Lawmaker: Ten ISIS Fighters Have Been Apprehended Coming Across Southern Border (Video) | the Gateway Pundit

Hoft thought this was such BOMBSHELL BREAKING NEWS that he made it his “Featured Story.”

Pretty scaaaary, right? Who knows, these 10 terrorists might even have been carrying little jars of Ebola, hidden in their beards!

Just one problem, though. It’s completely false.

I asked the Department of Homeland Security if Hunter’s comments were true. They weren’t.

“The suggestion that individuals who have ties to ISIL have been apprehended at the Southwest border is categorically false, and not supported by any credible intelligence or the facts on the ground,” said DHS spokesperson Marsha Catron. “DHS continues to have no credible intelligence to suggest terrorist organizations are actively plotting to cross the southwest border.”

I know, you’re probably as shocked as I am. Jim Hoft, Fox News and a Republican congressman all pushing a false story? No way! Yes way!

Duncan Hunter - haggling proves lying is part of Middle East culture. Okay not a bogus claim, but clearly someone who has never negotiated anything - whether it’s a car loan, a mortgage, or a bill in Congress. As a GOPer, he probably figures that the only way legislation is passed is when the GOP crams is down without any amendments or riders by those pesky Democrats.

But then again, only a few months ago, Hunter was busy claiming that ISIL is a bunch of guys running around wearing pajamas and wasn’t a threat.

“The only threat that lies with them is that they can get people back into the United States to do harm to us here and commit acts of terror,” according to Hunter, who served in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

“You’re always going to have disaffected youth. You’re always going to have that pull to join something greater than yourself,” Hunter said. “People like me join the United States Marine Corps; people like McCain join ISIS.”

Locally, if you want to get coverage extended, just start a big-ass forest fire. The firefighters want to be able to communicate, so more towers are suddenly installed.

There’s a tiny town 60 miles from here that got a permanent upgrade. It was a HUGE fire two years ago, and they expected major flooding afterwards (which didn’t come until the following year).

So, to get my students in my four-hour intensive class this afternoon in the mood for Halloween, I decided to show them a film. But not your traditional Halloween fare….oh no.

I showed them David Fincher’s Zodiac, about the real-life Zodiac Killer. I started off by explaining the background of the case, and letting them know that film is based on actual events, with the names of the real people involved in the film.

After it was over - that great ending scene where Mike Mageau ID’d the late Arthur Leigh Allen as the man who shot him - and while ‘Hurdy Gurdy Man’ was still playing over the speakers, I wrapped up with this little extemporaneous spiel:

“In most films about serial killers, or slashers, or whatnot, the killer is easily identified as some kind of monster. Hannibal Lector, Jason, Freddy Krueger, or Norman Bates. It’s easy to see, especially in films like Friday the 13th, A Nightmare on Elm Street or what have you. But in real life, the monsters are the people waiting in line next to you at the Post Office, or sitting at the table at the pub drinking a beer - they could be your next-door neighbor, the person you work with, or if you’re really unlucky, maybe your brother-in-law or even your husband. In real life, you’ll never know who the monsters are, and sometimes……every now and then, they get away with it, just like the Zodiac Killer did. So keep that in mind, and Happy Halloween.”

I have a naturally gravelly voice that lends itself to such things, and one of the students, Sarka, you could see the shivers running down her spine and the hair on her arms standing up as I concluded the film. She said, “Well, I guess I’ll be sleeping with the lights on for the next ten years.”

They all loved the film, and none of them had ever seen it before.

There’s a tiny town 60 miles from here that got a permanent upgrade. It was a HUGE fire two years ago, and they expected major flooding afterwards (which didn’t come until the following year).

Odd coincidence from last week:
Frisco Student Arrested For Creating False Ebola Scare

FRISCO (cbsdfw.com) - A high school student is in police custody after posting an article on Twitter containing inaccurate reports of Ebola cases in Frisco, Texas.

The false news article, which specifically mentioned Frisco schools, prompted multiple inquiries to the district from concerned parents. Numerous students also stayed home instead of attending class.

The news article appears to have been a doctored image from a local news site.

They are the burial vaults stored by the thousands by FEMA in georgia and other locations, they are not coffins, coffins go inside them.

Big conspiracy theory fodder since FEMA has stockpiles of these things scattered around the country, they bought almost a billion dollars worth of them. Why? Hell if I really know, never bothered trying to debunk this particular meme so I haven’t done any research.

That letter reminds me of what I was reading last night about how if a child was baptized as a Christian (even in secret without the parents’ permission or knowledge), church officials could and did come in and take the child away to be raised as a Christian. I can’t even imagine…

Snopes debunked that nonsense earlier this year.

They are really going to have to watch what they say in these Ebola related news releases about possible cases.

The freaking out will have already gone full scale by the time they get the report out they are being cautious.

And of course, no matter what they say, the media is going to go full bore frenzy news no matter what.

I hope this all goes away soon. Because before it is over and forgotten someone(s) are going to be injured or killed over the freak out. Heart attacks, fights, shootings…somehow all will be a part of the scare. This is America. Sadly you can almost count on someone losing it and going after a ‘carrier’ or a ‘suspected Ebola contagious person’ out in public or the like.

And Charles, for making this as safe a place as he can for all of us, it helps make a good community. It matters.

Husband got an email, asking, I swear to god, if he is willing to relocate to Denver. FOR A JOB IN DENVER. This does not bode well for our hero. Nothing about the money yet, we shall see.

The tour of the job center with The Son went well. But I about lost it. For the first time ever, he looked at a total stranger and introduced himself and then said “I am Autistic”. I didn’t cry til we got home, but I’m still kinda weepy over that. His VR case worker still hasn’t sent them a referral for this yet and I have to wonder WTF the hold up is. I’m still not sure if this is the place he needs to be, but they will do aptitude evaluations and career planning and other stuff that will be helpful. So I remain guardedly optimistic.

Husband got an email, asking, I swear to god, if he is willing to relocate to Denver. FOR A JOB IN DENVER. This does not bode well for our hero. Nothing about the money yet, we shall see.

You’d be surprised - increasingly we’re seeing people apply for jobs who think they’re going to be able to do it remotely. So that’s a form question that pretty much gets asked of everyone now. I wouldn’t read too much into it.

From what I have seen on the twitters the Kurds aren’t rioting because Turkey refuses to send troops to Kobani. They are rioting because Turkey wont allow ammo, other supplies, and reinforcement fighters to cross the Turkish border to Kobani.

That seems to be what it is; the Kurds are livid that Turkey won’t allow them to cross the border to fight against IS.

I think Turkey’s rather quietly pleased that IS is “solving” their PKK/PYD/Kurdish separatist issue. That being said, if IS makes a move against the Suleyman Shah tomb near Aleppo - that being a sovereign Turkish extraterritorial concession - then Turkey would go after IS in a major way.

Simply put, they’re using IS as a cat’s paw to get rid of the PKK/PYD, and then in turn, they’ll dispose of IS once IS has outlived its usefulness. And who knows? Maybe they’ll figure they can use that as a reason to go after Assad as well. I doubt the Syrian military in its current condition would pose much of a threat to the Turkish military in a conventional order of battle. For the Syrians, it would be a debacle of the first order. But then again, let’s say Turkey launched a full-on invasion of Syria…..Russia would have the caniption fit to end all caniption fits. I doubt they’d be pleased by what would look to them like a NATO invasion of a Russian client state.

That book is on my Amazon list. I’m still only about 2/3 of the way through the current one (I’m reading it slowly because some most of it is really disturbing, so I end up switching to something else for a while).

There’s another book that came out a few years back called “The Kidnapping of Edgardo Mortara,” where a six-year-old Italian Jewish boy had been baptized secretly during an illness by his nurse. The police later showed up to take him away because in the Papal States, it was illegal for a non-Catholic to raise a Catholic child. He was raised in the church and became a priest.

Reminds me of what I saw last week at a Mall*Wart in New Mexico: a worker having to armwrestle a 3 foot by 3 foot by 6 foot cardboard display packed with Komen for the Cure pinkwashing crap. And when I came back through the same area a bit later, the worker was explaining to another worker how they had to take everything out of the display and put it on hanging pegs. Yikes.

Basically the reservations were divided up between the bigger churches and they built schools on reservations to “cure the savages”, pretty much by any means with no regulation or supervision. That shit only stopped in the 1990’s and to some degree it still goes on via the foster care system. There is currently a truth and reconciliation process going on in Maine with the Wabanaki tribes and the horrendous stories some of the survivors are telling are just heartbreaking. It’s happened all over the US and Canada. Lots of Indian children were ripped from loving homes and placed into Hell.

A traveler from the African nation of Gabon arrived June 18 with a necklace made of mandrill teeth. A mandrill is a primate closely related to the baboon. The passenger claimed to be a voodoo priest and he said he used the necklace for spiritual rituals. In consultation with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), a decision was made July 3 to destroy the necklace due to the possible introduction of Ebola, HIV, monkey pox or other viruses or diseases.

On May 22, CBP officers discovered a primate skull in the baggage of a traveler from Russia. The skull was not cleaned, and it was topped by feathers that also were not cleaned. The passenger claimed she purchased the skull in Togo and that skull was a token of “good luck.” In consultation with CDC and USFWS, a decision was made June 25 to destroy the skull for the same reason as the primate teeth necklace. The contaminated feathers also presented an avian disease risk as well.

No connection to Mexico at all.

I know about this. My grandfather was sent to an Indian school in Oklahoma. It “worked.” It also deprived his descendants of a heritage. :(

I can’t tell you how crazy this makes me. And heaven help me if I say anything to anyone about Komen being a bullshit organization these days. There are plenty of other places to send your money that actually help people. October is especially awful. And if I say a word I am an asshole. They prey upon people who have lost loved ones to breast cancer and put themselves out there as the ONLY people who represent patients and their families.

This drill bit thing is beyond the pale, they need to be HOUNDED to bits (see what I did there?) over this bullshit. They’re just phoning it in now.
