Breaking: Ebola Test Negative for Dallas County Deputy (Chuck Johnson Wrong Again)

Calm down
Health • Views: 27,529

The test results are in for that sheriff’s deputy who was hospitalized for possible Ebola symptoms — and as we suspected, he does not have Ebola.

UPDATE: DALLAS — The Texas Department of State Health Services says negative results were returned from a lab in Austin Thursday, indicating that a Dallas County deputy does not have the Ebola virus.

When it was reported that this deputy had been hospitalized, our pal the smear merchant celebrated the news with a series of self-congratulatory tweets about his powers of prediction:

Wrong again, Chuck.

I am very happy for the Deputy and all of his loved ones.

Hopefully that moron writer will fade away as the folks who have been rallying to his defense realize that he is full of sh*t and not worth defending.

The symptoms that also mimic that of influenza and other diseases completely unrelated to Ebola. The key to getting Ebola is coming into direct contact with someone who has active symptoms of Ebola.

Also key - having been to West Africa and coming into contact with someone who had Ebola there.

You don’t just get Ebola out of thin air (though that’s another one of the crank theories he’s been pushing - that the disease has mutated and is now airborne).

I am working on a page about all this, should be done later tonight (EDT).

So, you might remember that in the KY Senate race, Alison Lundergan Grimes appeared on Kentucky Sports Radio. Mitch McConnell was also to have appeared on the show, did not do so until after taking a hit publicly for it showed up on the show for what has been described as a brutal interview.

Flash forward. Grimes just met with the editorial board of the Louisville Courier-Journal for a Q and A. Team Mitch…

A little bit of basic thought might have saved CCJ this particular ignominy. We know it’s really kinda hard to be infected with Ebola, and we know that it’s fluid-contact-only.

A sheriff’s deputy is going to damned well know not to stick his finger in a puddle of blood and lick it. He’s a first responder. Training is a thing.

On the other hand, basic thought…. yeah never mind.

So are the TV networks who kept pounding the “symptoms” the deputy was suffering, and am glad to know he is perfectly fine except for a little GI distress.

@ChuckCJohnson you do realize that vague symptoms, fever, chills, weakness can be the flu, which can start in Oct? cdc.gov

Your Tweet reply to Chuckie got me thinking - we are indeed coming up on flu season, and IIRC, the early symptoms of Ebola are strikingly similar to the flu.

Which means there’s gonna be a whole helluva lot of freaking out in the not-too-distant future.

Ebola jitters seem to be way more contagious than the disease itself: just watching the local (NYC) news about a wildcat strike by airline cleaning staff at JFK Airport - picketing: claiming that they aren’t being either protected against, or educated about, possible Ebola contact(s). According to their signs, they have to deal with “vomit, blood, urine and feces” as part of their jobs Really makes you feel good about air travel nowadays…

I’m planning an interesting public shoot (paid gig!) but I’m now concerned I might set off a disturbance. Lots of you guys have seen my photography of furnace fires, and the guys in the silver suits that work the furnaces and pour gallons of molten metals.

Anyway the plan is to wear the suit out in public to get some shots of the guy as a character that gets up, commutes on the Red Line or bus, goes to Starbucks for coffee etc. Like an ordinary guy. But in the suit.

I hope nobody has a haz mat suit ebola panic when we do this. Not the kind of notoriety we want. I don’t need LAPD or LASD on my ass for a paid gig.

Chuck was right. He predicted more people would come down with Ebola symptoms, and sure enough, it came to pass.

Symptoms! He hedged his bet to where he couldn’t lose. Ebola’s symptoms, in the early going, are hard to distinguish from the symptoms of other diseases.

Cagy, shady, shabby. Lie and be wrong, but not technically. Because technically, he predicted nothing at all, and could never be wrong having not predicted anything more remarkable than that the sun would rise tomorrow.

I checked over at Sharyl Atkisson’s website. One commenter there is trying to blame “illegals” for the death of Eli Waller, 4, from enterovirus D68. His evidence: 164 Central American kids were sent to Eli’s home county of Mercer, NJ. Ergo, they gave Eli the illness.

I replied, saying if those kids were all infected, Mercer would have way more than one D68 case. Given Eli is a preschooler, he would probably not have any contact with the kids from Central America, most of whom are probably older.

Scaremongers like Atkisson, Hoft and Chuckles the Ginger Clown are just demagogues, whipping up the nativists.
