Last Month Was the Hottest September Since They Started Keeping Records

The changes are accelerating
Environment • Views: 42,185

As the Republican Party sinks ever deeper into its denial of climate change (good luck finding a single GOP politician these days who doesn’t deny the influence of human beings on the Earth’s climate), NASA has reported that last month was the hottest September on record since the records began.

Last month was the warmest September globally since records began being kept in 1880, NASA reported Sunday. January through September data have 2014 already at the third warmest on record. Projections by NOAA make clear 2014 is taking aim at hottest year on record.

One Ebola death in this country and people are in a paranoid frenzy. But huge-scale disastrous changes in the Earth’s climate? Yawn. Who’s on Dancing With the Stars tonight?

Best debate ever this year is happening right now at ket.org and my crappy backwoods Kentucky internet connection refuses to let me watch.

Kentucky, where even the Dem. gov. candidate is pro-coal.

There will be no meaningful action from the government on global warming in the United States, not as long as the Republican Party has the attitude of this guy:

yep and in a state where coal isn’t even in the top ten (or even 20) industries.

Meanwhile, they say, we’ll collect as any benjamins as we possibly can.

This country may be doomed, but it’s because of people like them.

Of course that duckhead fails to understand that, if Godlessness causes carnage and death then anything that causes carnage and death like say, firearms, is Godless.

BTW, ket.org is dropping all ping connection attempts, so it’s not your connection only.

Mass carnage and mass death -

? Climate change? No.

? God? Most certainly.

I’ve given up. It takes a decent understanding of basic sciences and getting past the confirmation bias and motivated reasoning for the RWNJs to accept the reality of climate change. They just aren’t willing or prepared to do it.

An Apple solar farm is about 20 mi from where I live. It’s huge.

Wish they’d share.

I can’t even recycle where I am. You have to be a homeowner to get a “convenience site” permit (which I did when my son still lived up here), and that’s the only place you can take your sorted recyclables. The waste co that picks up the dumpster takes everything straight to the landfill. Grrrr.

Duke Energy is making noises about producing some solar energy, but where I don’t know, and how much will be very small compared to its hydroelectric and nuclear power plants.

Most people have no idea, and overbuilding continues, along with large vehicle purchasing. I’m only 5’1” tall, and when I stand in front of a huge F350 or some other behemoth, the top of my head comes level with the top of its hood. The 3 of us live in a 978 sq ft apt,, and it’s quite adequate for our needs. All my life I’ve tried to walk the walk, living small and using less, but there is always something beyond your control.

What’s the over/under on how long it will take CCJ to trumpet “Obama releases Ebola-infected parrots in the US!”

BTW, the NCDC hasn’t reported on September yet, but had this year’s August as the warmest August on record:

ncdc.noaa.gov

There is at least a decent chance this year (whether calendar or seasonal (Dec-Nov) ) will be the warmest on record.

23 Backwoods_Sleuth  Oct 13, 2014 5:22:01pm

CSPAN says on its listing that it’s carrying the debate.
Instead, it’s that asshole Tom Cotton opining about how bad Obama is.

No. They know what they’re doing. They’ve run a real & successful business. Their big shtick is to fake being hicks like the Palins. When the rubes run out, the Palins will be broke & SOL but the Duck fucks will still be selling duck calls at a profit.

18 years no warming. Yadda yadda. Antarctic sea ice growing. Yadda. Volcanoes. Yadda yadda. It is tiring.

None of that counts for squat. CO2 is a greenhouse gas, period. It will eventually do what it does.
