Darren Wilson’s Grand Jury Testimony Destroys Jim Hoft’s Bogus “Fractured Eye Socket” Claims for Good

It’s over, Jim. You can stop lying now.
US News • Views: 33,978
Jim Hoft, liar

You may recall Jim Hoft’s now-infamous repeated claims that anonymous sources told him police officer Darren Wilson suffered an “orbital blowout fracture to the eye socket” in a struggle with unarmed teenager Michael Brown, before Wilson shot Brown to death.

LGF’s article debunking Hoft’s unsourced claims went viral on Twitter and Facebook, and now shows almost 250,000 views and many thousands of retweets and shares. Yet Hoft has continued to push this claim over and over, in almost everything he posts on the subject.

Well, today the New York Times has a report on the grand jury testimony of officer Wilson, and his account contains absolutely no mention of a fractured eye socket, or of any injuries more serious than scratches and swelling: Police Officer in Ferguson Is Said to Recount a Struggle.

WASHINGTON — The police officer who fatally shot Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo., two months ago has told investigators that he was pinned in his vehicle and in fear for his life as he struggled over his gun with Mr. Brown, according to government officials briefed on the federal civil rights investigation into the matter.

The officer, Darren Wilson, has told the authorities that during the scuffle, Mr. Brown reached for the gun. It was fired twice in the car, according to forensics tests performed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The first bullet struck Mr. Brown in the arm; the second bullet missed.

The forensics tests showed Mr. Brown’s blood on the gun, as well as on the interior door panel and on Officer Wilson’s uniform. Officer Wilson told the authorities that Mr. Brown had punched and scratched him repeatedly, leaving swelling on his face and cuts on his neck.

Notice also that all of the blood found on Wilson’s gun, inside the car, and on Wilson’s uniform belonged to Michael Brown — not to Darren Wilson. So clearly, if there was a struggle at all (about which there remains considerable doubt) the only person who came away from it with serious injuries was Michael Brown.

So how does the Dumbest Man on the Internet cover the story, now that his claims are totally destroyed by Wilson’s own testimony? With yet another deceptive, misleading headline: NY Times: Michael Brown Beat Officer Darren Wilson Before His Death - Blood Found on Wilson’s Gun | the Gateway Pundit.

Notice that Hoft phrased his crummy headline to give the impression that the blood on Wilson’s gun came from Michael Brown’s “beating,” when it was actually Brown’s blood from Wilson shooting him.

Hoft even has the gall to claim that the New York Times article backs up his accounts.

The New York Times story mirrors what The Gateway Pundit reported in August on the attack.

If you click the link Hoft posts to his own site, you’ll notice something odd; suddenly, for the first time, he’s no longer linking to his “fractured eye socket” post, but to one of his earlier posts before he started pushing his false story.

The only question remaining now is whether Hoft actually did have anonymous sources in the St. Louis County PD and prosecuting attorney’s office, as he said, or whether he just completely made up this story. In other words, lied like a rug.

I strongly suspect the latter.

Brown family lawyer Benjamin L. Crump scoffed at Wilson’s version of events, saying, “What the police say is not to be taken as gospel.”

“The officer’s going to say whatever he’s going to say to justify killing an unarmed kid,” said Crump. “Right now, they have this secret proceeding where nobody knows what’s happening and nobody knows what’s going on. No matter what happened in the car, Michael Brown ran away from him.”

This, this and again this. The injuries inflicted by Michael Brown did not disable Wilson and Brown pretty clearly was running away after being shot. For Wilson to continue firing on Brown after Brown stopped posing a threat is at best manslaughter.

15 BigPapa  Oct 18, 2014 10:45:44am

“No matter what happened in the car, Michael Brown ran away from him.”

Bingo. No matter what happened in the car, Wilson executed Brown. Fear for life isn’t an issue because Brown was running away, then yielded, after which he was executed.

There is much to be explained here.

Kids walking in middle of street.

Cops drives by and says ‘Get the fuck out of the street.’

One kid responds to cop ‘we’re just going over here.’

Kid then attacks cop and tries to get his gun, cop protects himself. 11 times.

This doesn’t make any fucking sense.

One of the comments at Raw Story pretty much sums it up:

Isn’t it amazing how the cop’s description of the incident just morphed him from killer cop to mini-Rambo? Bouncing the car door off of Brown morphs into a homicidal attack on the idiot who bounced his door off of Brown. Shooting an unarmed kid for jaywalking morphs into self-defense because its totally ‘reasonable’ to assume that an 18 y/o kid would attack a cop in his car. Through the window. Staggeringly Amazing.

One of the more disturbing trends in law enforcement is for the officers who now have high-capacity magazines to just start spraying bullets when they feel threatened. The LA Sheriffs chased a couple of guys into a cul de sac, and then overreacted when a deputy fell backwards (because he had put himself in a completely tactically indefensible position). They burned 127 rounds, turning the quiet houses in the neighborhood basically into Swiss cheese. Miraculously, they didn’t hit anyone. Not even the suspects.

We can hire any damn doofus to ride around in a car and just shoot people for no reason. Cops get six figure salaries and benefits for life. Shouldn’t we expect just a bit more?

Once inside the S.U.V., the two began to fight, Officer Wilson told investigators, and he removed his gun from the holster on his right hip.

I don’t see how Brown could have shot himself in the arm and then fired a second shot in the vehicle, and then pulled away without the gun. It’s not what Wilson said, either.

Just looking at some of the photos of Darren Wilson in his uniform, it appears that his side arm is on his right side.

That would be one hell of a reach for someone standing outside of the drivers side door, and pull out a holstered pistol on the right hip of someone sitting in the drivers seat.

My guess is Wilson already had his side arm out.

The “graze wound” to Michael’s right palm that was described as a deep laceration has been speculated by many to be from grabbing the officers weapon when it was fired. Whether he was trying to take the weapon or just trying to prevent it being pointed at him is open to a lot of debate.

If you used your “strong hand” to push a gun away (or grab) by placing it over the end/top of the barrel/slide and the gun was then fired that is exactly where you would end up getting shot.

In a sane world, once an attacker begins running away from you, then shooting him in the back is not self-defense. Nor is shooting an attacker who has surrendered.

But with the way our laws are right now? I won’t be surprised if Wilson gets a pat on the back and allowed to go back to work without even a black mark in his record.

Usually I go to King of Prussia on Saturday. I went to Wegmans and at first the large TV did not work. One of the regulars flipped open the cabinet that houses the receiver (I do not know if it is a cable or satellite connection) and turned it on. CNN has only ebola coverage. I got out of that store as fast as my feet could carry me.

Hearing all you giddy people about your upgrades… I’m thinking maybe it’s time I replace my computer.

I’m not quite a dinosaur; maybe an early amphibian… my iMac is just over 5 years old, an increasing number of websites (including Comedy Central and most of the major papers) give me pop-ups telling me I’m missing some content because my OS is outdated… and fergawdsakes I’m on DSL…

So is some new development expected in the next few months that would make it worth waiting until after the first of the year before buying a new one (and getting my apartment wi-fi’d)?

Also…

If everyone remembers the video of Mike Brown in the store, you’ll remember how he walked right up to the shop keeper and intimidated him with his size and getting in his face.

I wonder when contested by Officer Wilson in the street if he didn’t act in much the same manner. The cop reverses his car and tries to contest Brown and his buddy being in the street and Mike wasn’t going to have it and walked right up to the cop as he was getting out of his car and using his size pushed the cop back into the car whereupon the cop freaked out and pulled his gun.

Brown reaches for the gun to prevent the cop for trying to intimidate him with it and the squabble over the gun starts as the cop is now a bit scared and wanting to prove who has the power here.

Once the gun goes off, Brown backs away injured from the shot and begins walking away.

The cop, now all full of adrenaline and also full of Ferguson thinking about young black kids says to himself, this kid isn’t going to do this to me and then walk away, gets out of the car and fires a warning shot or two. Mike gets hit, stops, turns around and the cop freaks out thinking he is going to come back at him and then just unloads.

At least that is what all we have learned seems to play out to me.

Wilson is guilty of at the very least of excessive policing and unhinged overkill. At the most pure hatred for the unfortunate Brown and just decided, hell I’ll shoot him down, I’ll have backing, this is Ferguson.

Not only should Wilson be on trial. So too the whole police department for it’s historical issues with the African American community which lead to the whole overreaction of Officer Wilson.

A good cop would have backed up and made sure the kids understood they needed to be out of the street. And if Ferguson wasn’t Ferguson, chances are pretty good Brown and his friend would have paid attention to a good cop, where they most likely had a bad attitude about a Ferguson cop.

re: #107 ObserverArt

I’d quibble with the bit about “walked away.” Brown covered a good distance before he stopped and turned, estimated between 70-100 feet. This was not a kid who’d just decided to saunter off, this was a 6ft 4in man who was hauling ass in the opposite direction.

Likewise I’d quibble with “a warning shot or two.” He fired at least six shots at Brown as he was running. This was not a cop who was trying to get a suspect to stop and surrender, this was a cop who was pissed off and shooting to kill.

I always kind of got the idea that Killgore was pissed by the change that occurred here at LGF when it went to a more centrist liberal position and Charles dumped his support of wacky conservatives.

Killgore stayed and played, but you could just tell that he would really pick at anything he saw as being too liberal…like his whole rant about Occupy Wallstreet and even how he would discuss the Euromaiden protests in Ukraine.

To me he was always a law and order type and just absolutely hated anything that was liberal like a protest of anything. He saw it all as stupid, we should all take our places in the rat race for the good order of society.

Now that he is gone, this is the real Killgore.

As to your email that depends on who it is with, if your using a @earthlink address then yes you will lose that if you change providers. Unlike AOL you can’t just use their email without being a paid subscriber.

Thing about recalls of events like this is the words chosen shape the mental image others have in their minds. In my mind, based upon what I’ve heard from witnesses as well as the bit of forensic evidence we’ve seen, is that Wilson has a serious anger control issue. He found a couple of teens who were disrespecting him and he wasn’t going to stand for it. If yelling at them to get out of the road wasn’t going to work, then scaring them by slamming his SUV into reverse and coming straight at them at high speed would. I know I’d have a few choice words for anybody who came at me with their car.

The ‘street’ is within an apartment complex with only one way in and out. The police closed off the other access points for their own convenience at some point in the past. So walking in the street should have been no big deal.

Snow Leopard

Make sure that you’re running the most recent version of Snow Leopard (10.6.8), then you should be able to upgrade to Yosemite for free through the App Store; it’s approximately a 5 GB download.

Just make sure that you backup your important stuff, through Time Machine, SuperDuper!, or whatever you use, just in case the upgrade goes sideways (which it shouldn’t, but always be prepared).

That’s another thing, over a month later and we’ve still no clue who Wilson is. We only have a photo because his dad didn’t move fast enough to delete it off his Facebook page. Everything else about who he is and what he thinks was erased because his superiors gave him time to do that (oh, and to mow his lawn) before revealing his name to the press. I don’t think we even know where he lives.

Where is Chucky C to flush out Wilson’s name, address, entire record as a youth and officer and whether he has Ebola?!

I can’t see anyone confronting an officer in that fashion, esp. an 18 year old. I am sure the context is different given FPD’s history than anything I grew up with, but if anything, I think it would suggest that people there, esp. kids, would be trying to avoid a confrontation with cops.

And all of the defending statements telling “his side of the story” come from vague, non-specific, un-named sources. Nice that he doesn’t even have to strain his voice to get his story out—just sit back, collect his pay and the untold dollars raised by his buddies and let others proclaim his innocence.

I personally consider it pretty telling that he remains an enigma to this day. Who he is as a person is a blank, while his service record is spotless because department policy up until a few years ago was not to link complaints and incident reports to a cop’s personal records and allow them to write any such reports. Get the feeling that his defense is really more a defense of the department as a whole.

I have no problem with polyamory, but there are all sorts of legal issues with polygamy. State marriage is just not set up to deal with it. If someone has multiple wives/husbands, who gets state benefits if that person dies, how does inheritance work? Is everything divided equally, is it divided proportionally based on how long they were married?

Here’s What Paul Ryan’s Latest Answer About Ayn Rand Really Means

Paul Ryan has been denying the influence of Ayn Rand upon his public philosophy for a good four years now, and he has settled upon a handful of well-worn talking points. The New York Times Magazine asks Ryan again:

Q: I always understood you as being an Ayn Rand aficionado. But you distanced yourself from her writing during the campaign. What’s your real view of her?

A: No, I wasn’t distancing. I adored her novels when I was young, and in many ways they gave me an interest in economics. But as a devout, practicing Catholic, I completely reject the philosophy of objectivism.

This answer does not mean quite what it sounds like.

Wilson backs up almost running Brown over. Of course Brown says WTF. Power-tripping Wilson slams his door into Brown as he tries to get out. Wilson grabs Brown through the window during the verbal confrontation (which has now turned physical) and pulls him in. Brown rightfully defends himself. Wilson pulls out his gun and shoots Brown during the struggle. Brown gets loose and runs away. Wilson exits vehicle, chases after Brown while firing. Brown raises hands, turns around to surrender. Wilson executes him.

Way more plausible than any of the bullshit Hoft et al come up with.

To me, the tripping point in any story of Wilson’s defense was the number of shots fired. The only way to make that many justified, at least in my mind, would be if Brown truly were charging Wilson with intent to hurt him. But that requires assuming every witness is lying his ass off, something makes no sense the more witnesses who come forward to corroborate the same set of events.

One of my Facebook friends - of the less derpy variety - posted the following, which I have quoted here in its entirety, for awesomeness:

Should you worry about Ebola?
If you have been to Sierra Leone, Guinea, or Liberia in the past 3 weeks, or come in direct and prolonged contact with the body fluids of someone who has been to one of those countries, then yes. If not, then stop freaking out because the media wants you to. Their goal is to whip everyone into a frenzy so that we will watch more news, not disseminate facts and truth.
Ebola is not airborne, and will not suddenly become airborne. Helping the stricken countries is the right thing to do, and cutting them off from the rest of the world will only prolong the outbreak and cause the death of many, many more people who are just like you and me. In fact, leaving them to die would be an evil act.
I won’t entertain debates on this, but don’t expect any because we’re all smart people here who are capable of independent thought and reason, right? So we don’t need the media to tell us to panic when we know that the drivel they are spewing is not based in fact or reality.
That is all.

I didn’t read the article at the link, but let me offer my theory of how marijuana can protect you from ebola:

With enough marijuana, you’re not going to graduate nursing school, you’re not going to get good enough grades in undergrad to even enter medical school, you won’t be a lab technician or an EMT. You won’t be working at a hospital, you won’t come in contact with patients.

Depending which State you’re in, enough marijuana gets you a criminal record. You won’t even be working in the laundry at the hospital.

Yes, you would think this bit of info would help educate the extreme gun rights people. Maybe even help them see that a little bit of gun regulation might not be so bad. However, their default position on this is always, “Yeah but they don’t have the “ethnics’ or “Minorities” like we do here in America”
But they’re not racist. You are!/

Sadly, I don’t imagine we’ll get answers to any of those. King’s already noted before that the STLCPD has no intention of releasing an official report, and I doubt we’ll ever seen the evidence if the grand jury fails to indict. Plus the story yesterday from the federal investigators seems to be that they don’t figure they’ll be able to make civil rights charges against Wilson stick.

The best we might be able to hope for is some very badly needed federal ass-kicking of the departments involved, but even that might not go anywhere.

I’ve had to update my Twitter-derived dossier on Chuck C. Johnson. Here’s the latest.

He’s an award-winning journalist.
He’s been to Indonesia.
He’s been building rockets since he was 6.
He likes to threaten to sue people.
He graduated well from top schools.
He had an Asian girlfriend in college.
Their relationship was not well.
His Asian wife is “hot.”
She is an Indonesian Christian.
He is fat and dumpy.
He’s a ginger.
He knows virology.
He knows theology.
He knows the Bible.
He knows epidemiology.
He understands Asians (Asianology?).
He has driven a BMW.
His grandma listened to Rush Limbaugh.
He thrills to hear his name on Rush’s show.
He smokes “fine cigars.”
The Bell Curve changed his life.
He has an IQ of 150.
He speaks multiple languages.
He frequently makes typos but never deletes and corrects them.
He talks to billionaires — later.
He publishes private information online — defending Americans!
He’s just like Nelson Mandela, but not like Malcolm X.
He’s not too good with Terms of Service.
He has saved thousands of lives with his tweets.
He ignores grand jury subpoenas, just because.
He believes in “natural slavery” (See Aristotle, Politics, Book 1).
He loves him some Cal Coolidge.
He believes white straight bosses only hire hot chicks, while gay bosses only hire gay workers, black bosses, black workers, etc.
He believes compassion is a vice, and says Plato said it. (Plato didn’t.)
He used to live in West Hollywood, and from that learned that all gay men hate women (except Judy Garland and Liza Minelli).

Did I leave anything out?

White people rioting in New Hampshire:

Police in riot gear respond to crowd near Keene State, witness says

KEENE, N.H. — Parties at Keene State College spun out of control Saturday, as police in riot gear fired tear gas at hundreds of students throwing bottles and other objects, according to witnesses on the scene.
*snip*”

Pumpkinfest has always been fun,” said Julie Conlon, 23, who graduated from Keene State in May. “Yeah, kids drink excessively, but it’s never been out of control. This year I watched thousands of kids pile into a backyard and kind of go crazy.”

Conlon said people were throwing bottles, uprooting street signs, and setting things on fire.

Police responded in force, with canine units, SWAT gear, tear gas, tasers, and pepper spray, several witnesses said.

“I watched cops roll in, I watched the fire department roll in, I watched state troopers roll in with their batons out, ready to take on the crowd,” said Conlon. “It was crazy.”

A few to add:

He has traveled to more countries than others (although he has no idea what countries they have traveled to.)

He has bribed customs (?) officials in many countries.

He has lived in West Hollywood, but for some reason seems to prefer Fresno (probably the free digs at his MIL’s house)

He is going to turn all other journalists into travel agents (or some such nonsense) and change the very essence of journalism.

He has the goods to destroy the careers of: Hillary Clinton, Tom Pryor, several other unnamed Senators, Congressman, etc. He’s just waiting for the right time and the right financial reward before releasing his very important information.

I’m sure there’s more, but I’m already very embarrassed that I know this much.

re: #410 steve4005bk

We had already heard that there was a struggle, or do you not remember the St. Louis County Police Chief and the Ferguson Police Chief both saying that at their first press briefings? The Ferguson Chief even said that Wilson had “some swelling to the side of his face” but couldn’t recall which side.

Hoft reported that he was told by sources within the County Prosecutors office that Wilson had been badly injured and suffered a blowout fracture of his eye socket. He also showed an x-ray as if it was of Wilson’s injury only adding (file photo) below it afterwards and then more explanation about it and a link after about nine hours.

Jim doubled down on his claim that his source was from the Prosecutors office later and swore he wasn’t just making the whole thing up. Meanwhile the false x-ray and eyesocket blowout story appeared everywhere and even made it to FOX and CNN when the entire thing was a lie.

We already knew it was a complete lie around here because later when the prosecutors office was asked about Wilson’s injuries they said:
1. They hadn’t interviewed Wilson and had had no contact with him.
2. They had not received or seen any of Wilson’s medical records.

Which means that the people Jim claims to have told him about this injury knew nothing about Wilson’s injuries at all then. Either Jim made the whole thing up or he was lied to, if the latter then he should out his false source(s) for punking him into misleading the rest of the media.

“Operator”…sigh. Yeah, because when you bring a guy in to act as a top level administrator to coordinate the responses of all the various government agencies over Ebola, you should first make sure that he knows nothing about working in Washington?

Umm…no. What you want is an insider who has been there and done that and who knows all the players. Especially when he doesn’t have time to learn “on the job” because he is responding to a public health issue.

Chuck is a complete idiot.

Once Brown began running, the struggle had ended. Wilson could have done anything from calling it in to running Brown down. Instead, he chose to get out of his vehicle and open fire at a fleeing suspect. That’s not self-defense, that’s intent to kill.
