Jim Carrey’s Parodies of the Matthew McConaughey Lincoln Ads Are Absolutely Hysterical

Saturday Night Live is so rarely funny these days, it’s a bit of a shock when they actually have skits that make me laugh — but these parodies of Matthew McConaughey’s advertisements for Lincoln cars, featuring Jim Carrey, are just hysterical.

If you haven’t seen the original ad for some reason, here it is.

The whole show was actually watchable (although the monologue was bizarre).

The new Weekend Update host, Michael Che, is pretty good.

Haha, the original commercials are hysterical. : )

Best skit of the show….

Worst? Iggy Azalea “performing”. I actually thought it was a parody of someone, because damn, that can’t be for real.

I’ll be recording next week’s SNL, Chris Rock is hosting and his purple badness, Prince is the musical guest!

Can’t wait. I expect Prince to murder a guitar solo. He usually does when he’s LIVE.

From down below - potential Ebola patient being transferred to U Md Medical Center but there’s no hard info on the situation.

A patient was transferred to University of Maryland Medical Center at the request of state health officials and was being treated in isolation, a spokeswoman said Monday night.

The spokeswoman would not say where the patient was transferred from or whether they had recently arrived in the country.

Ebola patient Nina Pham was transported to the National Institute of Health in Bethesda in a high-profile case recently, but was discharged over the weekend after being cleared.

This is what happens when paranoia, misinformation and mass hysteria rule the day. It only takes a minute to read and learn a little. Paranoid, nasty parents can lead to nasty, paranoid kids too.

He shot two ads, one in Austin (the one shown) and the other in and around Midland/Odessa (his childhood Petroplex). I think both are ethereal and deeply weird. Good job by SNL!

By the way Mattie got arrested one night in Tarrytown (a very rich neighborhood in West Austin) after a cop “smelled marijuana” and looked inside the open cottage window to see him playing the bongoes on the living room floor. Naked.

Damned artists. Freaking weirdoes.

One of these days, Chuck will be right about something, and he wont stop crowing. Heck, he already crows about stuff that he’s been wrong about for weeks.

Guy just doesn’t know when he’s toast.

Thankfully, this kid wasn’t infected with Ebola. As you say, repeatedly, the only way to stop the threat of Ebola is to stop the outbreak in West Africa.

You know how it goes. They don’t want to associate with him now, but in four years, when he’s been out of office for a bit, they’ll want him to show up at their campaign rallies and to fundraise for them. He’ll spend his twilight years like Bill does, advancing the party’s cause based upon his personality alone.

Meanwhile, Dubya remains persona non grata in his own party and that doesn’t look to be changing anytime soon.

48 lawhawk  Oct 27, 2014 6:55:07pm

re: #46 Charles Johnson

Some folks might appreciate that. But politicians dont. They want options. They want flexibility. They want a certain moral flexibility that allows them to do pretzel logic that confounds and astounds for brazenness.

After all, the GOP has been pulling that for years - after saying individual mandate is the key to affordable health insurance and the way forward on reducing the number of uninsureds, they now claim every last bit is unconstitutional with their every utterance, down to 50+ attempts at repeal, knowing full well they’d never get out of the House.

The Ebola outbreak is another chance for the GOP to shoot straight, but instead, they’re going with fear and hysteria and ignoring the experts.

And why would they ignore the experts? Because it might indicate that the President is doing right on this - that there really isn’t a risk of getting Ebola in the US, and people need to calm down and recognize that they’re far more likely to get influenza (and die from it) than come into contact with someone with active symptoms of Ebola.

That’s because taking a position means being willing to defend it or, when it becomes untenable, admitting that it was a bad idea to support it. You see it in the way the GOP is slowly trying to move past anti-SSM positions as party planks. They’ll speak the pablum to supporters behind closed doors going forward, but don’t expect it to get a lot of press when the party writes up its platform in 2016.

I’m looking at what I want to do for my day in San Francisco, and one of the things is maybe walk the Golden Gate Bridge, but then I realized…wait, I’m not a fan of heights and its above water where you just look down and see water…so um I don’t think I’ll be walking it. I’m likely to have a panic attack…lol

Looking at this video, I’m already cringing…so IDK, I’ll see once I get there.

Youtube Video

It’s funny though, I rode a rickshaw in India, and I wasn’t really scared even though all I had to do was reach out my hand and I could touch the vehicle next to me.

But give me extreme heights above waterways and just looking at the video has me cringing…lol

I’m gonna have one day to explore San Fran, but I plan to schedule a complete SF trip for a longer visit.

I’ll be trying to stick to a budget for that one day, so that I don’t overspend in SF when the point of the trip is Hawaii.

I was driving home from work today and noticed a billboard for one of the candidates running for county sheriff in the upcoming election.

I got to thinking about why Presidential elections always enjoy higher voter turnout and I realized very quickly it’s because there is far more media hype around Presidential votes vs. mid-terms.

I keep having to remind myself the election really is only a week ago, I’ve seen so little media coverage on it. Instead the media are laser focused on a hard to catch virus when we have an election at hand of which the results could easily do more damage to America than Ebola ever could.

President Obama will be in Milwaukee tomorrow to help Mary Burke!

President Obama visits 99% Democratic ward to turn out Milwaukee base

When President Barack Obama arrives in Milwaukee on Tuesday, his task will be to help mobilize African-Americans and other key Democratic voting groups who still give him positive ratings despite his lackluster standing nationwide.

The president will be visiting North Division High School in an overwhelmingly African-American ward that he carried with 99% of the vote in 2012, outpolling Republican Mitt Romney 843 to 5.

Anything Obama can do to boost turnout in the city of Milwaukee and among-African Americans puts more votes in Democrat Mary Burke’s column in her neck-and-neck battle with GOP Gov. Scott Walker.

That was one of the points I was trying to make to people when the whole Michael Brown juvenile record thing came up. Why the hell would “police sources” be talking to a third rate blogger out in California instead of a local reporter if they wanted to out “Michael’s past?”

The whole thing was either pure fiction on his part or somebody really trolled the heck out of him. I find the first theory a lot more credible given his growing record of lying since.

I got to Russia in spring of 1992 when the rate was 120 Rubles to the Dollar. By the time I left in fall of 1993 it was over 6000. Once it reached 7,000 the following year, they just lopped off three zeros and reset the clock.

So in 20 years since it has gone from 7 to 54 to the dollar.

I was reading a panicky article on newsmax: nine reasons to fear ebola

and must admit, the notion of ebola spreading to other countries, especially in those parts of SE Asia that are nearly as backwards as Africa in terms of sanitation and medical, is a rather scary one.

And even Ben Carson is advocating trying to treat Ebola at its source. An ounce of prevention, etc., and all…

The Internet is full of examples of what is called “Chinglish” – notices in English in China that are so poorly rendered as to be incomprehensible or funny. This is the result of literal translation and, perhaps, translation with computer software. I have some pickings of my own:
n In Shanghai Metro: “Intelligent information system”.
n At Shanghai Expo: “Polite language and no noising”; “Polite sharing and no challenging”.
n At the Tian Chi resort near Urumchi: “Green grass is afraid of your trample”; “The civilisation is the most beautiful scenery”; “Medical salvation telephone number”.
n A road sign in Tashkorgan: “The middle road of the western circling city”.
n On the menu of a restaurant in Tashkorgan: “Acid pocket fish, misc of braise, the sheep hoof of spicy, sub-meat, ear speculation, beef rot, the fish mother, pure belly clearance, toothpicks meat, iron lamb, capsule speculation of meat, round mushroom of meat”
What would you like to order for lunch, dear reader? But, please remember, polite sharing and no noising!

I read an article about visiting journalists in North Korea being escorted around a school. There was a computer lab, with students typing busily away on the keyboards, but the screens were blank. There was no electricity to power the lab.

So, my guess is their pens were out of ink, and they were only going through the motions of taking notes.

Chinglish is always amusing or perplexing to English speakers. What bugs me is the writers don’t even attempt to check their answers, so to speak. It’s as if they don’t really care.

Case in point: I’ve seen two young women (not my students, thankfully) wearing black T-shirts with four large, white letters across the front: ACNE.

Maybe they meant ACME and typed the wrong letter, or maybe someone has a weird sense of humor, but there are probably tens of thousands of these shirts being worn around China now.

My first year here, I had to advise a student that wearing a jacket with the words “I am your whore” emblazoned over her left breast pocket was probably sending the wrong message.

Braised enterovirus in Clay Pot appears on a Chinese menu for ganguo feichang (干鍋肥腸; literally “dry pot fatty intestine”), which is a stuffed sausage popular in Sichuanese-Hunanese cuisine. This example occurred following the Enterovirus 71 epidemic in China, and mistranslates feichang (肥腸 “pig’s large intestines [used as food]”) as chang[dao] bingdu (腸[道]病毒 “intestinal virus”).
248 lawhawk  Oct 28, 2014 8:31:19am

Hmmm, why would a repudiation of an entire political agenda that involved tax cuts and shifting tax burdens to the poor not be seen as having national implications?

The GOP has been pushing tax cuts and shifting tax burdens from the rich on to the poor and those least able to afford them all in the name of economic growth.

Yet, Kansas is proof that these policies simply don’t work. They break budgets, and the GOP inspired budget in Kansas has unleashed the need for significant cuts to education and other key programs that residents are up in arms about. 30 years of trickle down didn’t work, and the Kansas experiment didn’t work. They blew out budget deficits in the process.

So while there are important Senate races that might determine the control of the Senate, the fact that the GOP is heading towards a loss in Kansas cannot be underestimated either. It also rolls against the whole notion of a GOP tide.

GOTV is going to be critical to protect those Democrats in vulnerable seats, and to show the country just what is at stake - like what Kansas GOPers did to their state budget - is what the GOP will want to do to the nation at large.

Why travel bans and quarantines are counter productive. Is Gov. Christie imposing quarantines on any of those health workers at Bellevue who live in NJ and are working in direct contact with Dr. Spencer?

And yes, I’ve seen the nj.com report that a Nobel prize winner in Medicine seems to support a quarantine for medical workers, though he (or perhaps it is the report itself) that seems to ignore that there are symptoms other than fever that can indicate that the person is symptomatic with Ebola. The doctor notes that there is a percentage of people who never show a fever but are symptomatic with Ebola. Other symptoms include fatigue, weakness, etc.

It’s why the fever indicator isn’t a good indicator of whether someone has Ebola - there are undercounts (persons never show fever, but are symptomatic in other ways), or overcounts (person has fever from unrelated condition).

Christie instead pushed for and got a political solution to a medical issue, and says that he’s not changed his position, even though he had called for a medical quarantine in medical facilities, but changed that tune to allow the nurse to self-quarantine in Maine instead.

Christie and others have pointed to the idiot medical correspondent from NBC news as proof that a voluntary quarantine isn’t enough. They’re right to a point - but she was never symptomatic either, and the guidance is to check for symptoms regularly and to check in with health authorities at the slightest change in condition.

To date, there have been far more false positives - those who were taken to facilities with suspected cases that were later ruled out , than false negatives - where someone got Ebola from unannounced cases that came into the country and spread from other as yet unidentified sources.

Fox would be crowning President Romney “King for Life” had he presided over this.

No shit. Through the Bush years, as gas shot past $2/gal and headed for the ceiling, we were told that it was temporary, then we were told that it was the “cost” of freedom, then finally we were told that it was just more reason to “drill, baby, drill.”

If gas prices fell under President Romney, we’d be told that it was just proof of the success of conservative policies. It would be proof that Keystone was bringing down prices like predicted, or it would be proof that his foreign policy was making us safer, or it would simply be proof that oil companies trusted him to protect them from “greenies.”

I regularly post the crap that Speaker Boehner tweets (and ridicule him as a matter of course), but the thing that gets me is that he’s always talking about the boom in energy. He apparently seems to forget that with every boom comes a bust, and the loss of jobs, value, etc.

An energy boom will end with a bust at some point, yet he’s trying to sell this as a reason to move ahead with drill baby drill and Keystone. Except the pipeline wont have much value if the natural gas prices keep falling, and alt energy takes a greater share of the energy market. Besides, pipelines have a tendency to go boom or sprout leaks inconveniently. Even the best of them have issues. And the company behind Keystone hasn’t exactly had the greatest record.

He didn’t work his way up from nothing.

Lampert was born in 1962 to Dolores Lampert and Floyd M. Lampert. His mother was a housewife. His father was a senior partner in the law firm of Lampert & Lampert in New York City. He has a younger sister Tracey.[5] Lampert’s grandmother was a passive investor and big fan of Louis Rukeyser’s Wall Street Week television program. She instilled in him an interest in investing. His mother would later recall that young Eddie would sit with his grandmother reviewing and evaluating the performance of her stock picks in the daily newspaper.[2]

Lampert’s father died at the age of 47 and his mother took a job as a clerk at Saks Fifth Avenue.[6] His mother would later say: “Eddie really assumed the responsibility, knowing that life had changed and we had to accomplish something by ourselves now.”[2] In order to help support his family, Eddie worked after school and on weekends at various warehouses, stocking shelves and filling orders. Despite working, he earned good grades, played both soccer and basketball, and won the scholar athlete award at his high school. He received financial aid to help pay for college.[6] Lampert graduated from Yale University in 1984 (B.A., economics, summa cum laude), where he was a member of Skull and Bones[2][7] and Phi Beta Kappa.

This fucker took an iconic American retail store and torched it by applying his fucked up Ayn Rand business model.

And in other news of people woefully under qualified to talk about a subject…

Sarah Palin was presented as an Ebola policy expert tonight on Fox’s On The Record show. There, she accused President Obama of not “putting America first,” she seemed to think West Africa is a country, she wrongly suggested that Ebola has repeatedly cropped up in the U.S. and she suggested that the Obama administration would exploit the outbreak to further his radical agenda. BFF Greta Van Susteren never challenged a word.
Read more at newshounds.us

She hit all the major talking points

1. Cares more about Africa than America….

PALIN: I do think that there needs to be that quarantine but, see, this is par for the course - that Obama’s incompetency, his administration’s incompetency is really shining bright in this one. And if only President Obama would put America first this time. …There is a void of leadership here and the governors need to step up and step in.

2. Obama will use Ebola to do “something”

Those are some Saul Alinsky tactics, that Rules for Radicals. One of those rules is: yes, you capitalize on crises. It’s kind of a fear mode that they don’t mind the people of America being in, so that the people of America would think that they have to rely on Big Brother government to answer the questions for them and solve the problem.

and NO, Capitalize on a crises isn’t one of the 10 rules for radicals that Alinsky laid out, but she’d know that if she had read the book I suspect.

3. Again… West Africa seems to be a country in her mind… (but I’ll give her some benefit of the doubt on that one… maybe)

uh, with each airplane landing that would have passengers in there perhaps coming from West Africa or another nation that is suffering from Ebola,

4. She finishes up with a whole new one… Ebola has popped up in the US before…

PALIN: This isn’t the first time that we have encountered Ebola. Look in the last 40 years how many times it’s cropped up, along with other viruses, too.

Lots more derp at RWW, including how, you betcha, she and other Governors would have this under control.

I don’t think RCC has any official position on the evolution (except maybe a semi-official position of one of the popes that it is compatible with Catholicism). I don’t think it ever has accepted or will accept the evolution, because it’s simply not necessary. A Catholic can hold any view, creationist or evolutionist, as long as it doesn’t contradict the dogmas.

Reston Ebola was first identified in Reston VA, in a group of crab-eating macaques that were quarantined. They never transmitted the disease to humans, and no humans got infected.

That was the only instance of Ebola in the US prior to the current outbreak where a total of 8 people have been treated for Ebola; only 2 of those were people who were infected by those already sick with the disease (both nurses in direct contact).

It is also important that the Pope’s opinions are his own (even if they are super-influential), not the Church doctrine, unless he speaks ex cathedra. So if the next Pope will be a YEC (not likely, but not impossible either), he may as well claim that only YECism is biblical, etc. - and that will still be just his opinion.

The thing about creationists is that quite a few of them don’t really want to hear anything else.

At times I have posted comments on creationists’ websites, not being too snarky or troll-y, but being blunt never the less.

For instance, I left a comment yesterday at this blog entry:

Matt Recker and The Gospel Coalition, Part 5: Inerrancy and Creationism

It was apparently deleted.

Here is what I wrote:

Tim Keller may be wasting his time. However, his attempts to reconcile what modern science has discovered about genetics and humans is going to happen over and over as creationists are faced with the field of genetics.

It is quite clear that all humans have too much genetic diversity to have come from just two people 6000 years ago. This includes the claim of the mythical Noah and his sons - all living human males cannot have descended from just one male (Noah) about 5000 years ago.

You can pretend the world of modern science (especially genetics) does not exist. But if you want to engage with the world, as Mr. Keller appears to wish to do, then you will be faced with the same issues.

Your myths are failing you, but you are too afraid to admit to yourself what that means.

I was pretty much in his face, yes, but I was neither vile, vulgar, or otherwise being anything but oppositional.

And it’s not as if the author can claim some sort of high horse, morally, about not attacking anyone, since his whole article is about attacking Tim Keller.

Try repeating “Adam is a myth” and “Noah is a myth” to creationists. Here’s what will happen:

Some may, but e.g. Behe seems not to be troubled even by the common descent (apparently accepting it) - he just doesn’t believe it is naturally possible, he requires God for it. (The Pope seems to say something similar, but I take it that he means the issue of the origin of life - which still hasn’t been solved by the science - rather whether the evolutionary mechanisms are adequate to produce new species on their own).
