Today when I checked in to Twitter, I noticed a lot of conservatives tweeting about an interview First Lady Michelle Obama gave to NewsOne Now, about the importance of voting on this Election Day. But that message is being ignored by the main right wing media sites and blogs, because they’ve found something they have a lot more fun doing: whining about being falsely accused of racism, and then immediately following up with horrifically racist shit.
Some wingnut genius noticed that in this interview Roland Martin asks Michelle Obama: if black people vote, do they get to treat themselves to some soul food as a reward? She joked that she’d give her “full permission to eat some fried chicken after they vote.”
If you’ve followed right wing blogs at all, you know what happened next: immediate victimhood memes about being falsely accused of racism, because if a Republican said it he’d be persecuted as a racist. Apparently they can’t see the difference between using the fried chicken stereotype as a racial slur, and talking about “fried chicken,” as, you know, food.
Here’s one example of many, at one of the web’s premier sites for racist comments, Weasel Zippers: donotlink.com.
As usual, the complaining about being falsely accused is immediately followed by a mind-bending torrent of utterly overt racism in the comment section, bringing up every stereotype for black people you can possibly imagine. Because this is how conservative blogs these days show how not-racist they are.
