Breitbart “News” Bombshell Report on Loretta Lynch and Whitewater Is Totally Wrong

Another triumph of right wing journalism
Wingnuts • Views: 46,333

Spreading rapidly through the right wing blogosphere today, we see yet another completely false BOMBSHELL BREAKING STORY that hits two of the hottest wingnut hot buttons: Bill Clinton and Barack Obama.

The wacky gang of crack right wing journalists at Breitbart “News” have not one but two articles pushing the claim (which I’m about to demonstrate is totally wrong) that Loretta Lynch, the African American woman nominated for Attorney General by President Obama, worked as part of the Clinton defense team during the Whitewater hearings.

The first: Obama’s Attorney General Nominee Loretta Lynch Represented Clintons During Whitewater.

New York federal prosecutor Loretta Lynch, the new nominee for attorney general, has a career filled with high profile cases — and she was a member of Bill Clinton’s defense team during the 1992 Whitewater corruption probe.

And the second: Loretta Lynch: A Qualified, but Political, Choice—Update: Whitewater?

You can find the same claims now at several of the major right wing websites; Weird Nut Daily, American Thinker, etc.

Just one small problem, of course; they have the wrong Loretta Lynch. Who could have imagined there might be more than one lawyer in America named Loretta Lynch?

The one who began working with the Clinton campaign in 1992 and was on the legal team during the Whitewater hearings is this woman, written up by the San Diego Union-Tribune in 2004:

Loretta Lynch

Personal: Born Feb. 22, 1962, in Independence, Mo. Lives in San Francisco. Single.

Education: Bachelor of arts, 1983, University of Southern California; juris doctor, 1987, Yale University Law School.

Career highlights: Member of the California Public Utilities Commission (term ends Dec. 31); president of the PUC, 2000-2002; director, Office of Policy and Research for Gov. Gray Davis, 1999; deputy policy director with Bill Clinton’s 1992 presidential campaign; partner, law firm Keker & Van Nest, San Francisco, 1991-99; special counsel, Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles, 1990-91.

What’s Next: A book about the California energy crisis and a wedding in 2005.

[…]

Joining Bill Clinton’s presidential campaign early in 1992, Lynch helped coordinate the campaign’s responses to the many personal allegations raised about the candidate.

In 1992, the Loretta Lynch picked for new Attorney General by President Obama (pictured at right) was working as an assistant US attorney in New York. One of her most famous cases was the prosecution of the violent Queens-based Green Dragons Asian street gang.

Another triumph of right wing journalism.

UPDATE at 11/9/14 1:53:09 pm by Charles Johnson

After leaving this drivel up for more than a day, the crack journalists of Breitbart “News” have now added this in italics to the end of the first article linked above, right above the author info which is also in italics.

Correction: The Loretta Lynch identified earlier as the Whitewater attorney was, in fact, a different attorney.

In other words, “this entire article is wrong, starting with the headline and then every other sentence in it. It could not possibly be more wrong. The fail in this piece is utterly massive and without compare.”

That’s how weird these right wing bloggers are getting — they’re inventing smears that aren’t even smears except to other right wingers, and failing at it.

2 Targetpractice  Nov 9, 2014 11:01:24am

Besides that, why would it matter if she had worked on Whitewater. Despite the wingnuts wishing to cling bitterly to their belief that there was something there, there wasn’t. The GOP spent the better part of the 90s investigating every angle of Whitewater and never found anything to incriminate the Clintons. It was a complete waste of time and taxpayer money, leading to an impeachment that ultimately blew up in the GOP’s collective faces.

But that’s wingnuts for you, forever living in the past.

A professional concern troll I converse with was telling me that he approved of Lynch’s nomination because she’d met with bipartisan approval in past instances. And all I could do was shake my head and remind him that our Secretary of Defense was a Republican who still got ran through the wringer simply for being the President’s nominee. What chance is there that the GOP will simply approve Lynch without issue?

Very little. I’d be shocked if half of the Senate Republicans voted to confirm her or really even a third.

I’m figuring that, knowing she’ll pass with ease, one TPer or another will try to use her nomination for a bit of horse-trading. Or they’ll dig into her record for some obscure case that they can inflate into a “scandal.”

I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s the point of this “bombshell,” to somehow tie Lynch to Clinton. You’re right, the next 1-2 years will be obsessing over the 90s in a rather pathetic attempt to remind people of “scandals” that weren’t, inadvertently reminding them of how things used to be before George The Lesser took office.

Yep. You might as well say, the 2016 elections have already started.

If you listen to Rand Paul, he hung the red state Dem defeats on Hillary and Bill and how it shows they are passe and America needs New Fresh Paul Blood.

So, this is more of the same. I expect Hillary from now on to be as much or more of a target than Obama. The Repubs think they have the Dems on the ropes and they think they can get the knockout punch.

The Loretta Lynch currently nominated for AG was also the prosecutor who got convictions against some of the cops in the Abner Louima case. I’m sure Breitbart/Upchuck/etc will use that to prove something something something.

Good find. It’s refreshing you don’t go with the derpish “BREAKING NEWS” lead, but I’m afraid the nitwits won’t understand your point and the viral right will run with it anyway.

Perhaps “BREAKING NEWS!!! BREITBART LIES about Loretta Lynch. UPDATE: Breitbart readers too stupid to notice and pass it along.”

I’m generally good at public speaking once I throw up before going out on stage.

Heights (anything higher than the third rung of a ladder) turn me into a quivering puddle of something we’d rather not discuss.

Not on the list: being buried alive, which is why my carcass is headed to The Body Farm at UT-Knoxville when I’m finished using it in this lifetime.

2-4 for me. What’s amusing about all of them is that they’re acquired. Used to love climbing as a kid, didn’t have a problem with bugs/spiders until the one time I accidentally unearthed a centipede, and I nearly drowned once and so get nervous anytime I’m over deep water.

Well it’s true nobody would eat this…

I did not know that, never thought about it. +1
Makes sense though I’d have to look up what is allowed. I assume then the orthodox must avoid a lifestyle that would require sustenance hunting ala Alaskan wilderness.

Those who have them for self defense will need to train. Practice safe handling and accuracy. That means shoot. Which means a safe place like a shooting range. I don’t get the prohibition of target shooting, but whatever they choose for themselves is fine with me.

Hedy Lamarr at Wikipedia:

Lamarr’s most significant contribution to technology was her co-invention, with composer George Antheil, of an early technique for spread spectrum communications and frequency hopping, which paved the way for today’s wireless communications. The invention in 1941 was deemed so vital to national defense that government officials would not allow publication of its details. At the Electronic Frontier Foundation’s Sixth Pioneer Awards in 1997, she and George Antheil were honoured with special awards for their “trail-blazing development of a technology that has become a key component of wireless data systems”

I’m very metal… I’ve got everything Creed ever did.

I don’t much care for Monster (or any energy drink for that matter), but that video is, well, it’s something.

The whole AA thing is just stupid. From NPR, via Wonkette….

[Lynch] attended an elementary school with mostly white students, and recalled scoring high on a standardized test. Administrators demanded the young Ms. Lynch retake it, she said.

Ms. Lynch’s mother fought back, saying the score wouldn’t have been questioned if her daughter was white. Ultimately, Ms. Lynch took the test again and, to her mother’s “great delight,” scored even higher, she said.

Ms. Lynch also should have been her high school’s first African-American valedictorian, she said. But after much hand-wringing, school administrators decided she had to share the honor with two other top-scoring students — one black, the other white.

“We were all friends,” she said, “and we all thought this is really dumb. But it became a huge deal.”

“Black ice.” Just put a slight coating of snow over icy patches, and it’s bumper car time.

It’s actually better to stay off the roads, and even the slightest hint of snow delays schools for 2 hrs. Everything shuts down with just an inch of the fluffy stuff.

Black ice can be a problem here too, as is freezing rain.

I was going down a slight hill to a set of lights about 100ft away and applied my brakes. I slide all the way into the intersection. My wife had her eyes closed the entire time.

In another vehicle I was driving a 4x4 with mud tires and hit a bit of ice just before a set of lights. The truck spun and the back end just missed a Mercedes waiting at the lights.

I usually drive my way out of trouble without touching my brakes but in those two situations I had no choice.

The only accident the Mrs. Fish was involved in was on black ice. She was almost stopped, but then she rolled over a patch of it and her truck slid into the guy in front of her in the left turn lane. No real damage was done, and due to the presence of black ice, it was ruled a no-fault.

re: #278 RealityBasedEbola

Read more at wonkette.com

Well, there goes their whole “affirmative action, kept a white guy with higher score out of Harvard etc.” story that the brainiacs at Breitbrats have been hollering about once they found out she wasn’t the Whitewater Lynch, nor the country music Lynn.

I’m sure they’ll have another story to scream as soon as they gather their collective brain cell to determine what it is. Stay tuned.

331 dholmes32  Nov 9, 2014 5:13:06pm

Kent Hovind, a creationist known as “Dr. Dino,” is currently serving time as a guest of the Federal Bureau of Prisons. He was convicted of 45 counts of “structuring” (aka “smurfing”) and a dozen counts of failing to pay federal income and FICA taxes for the “missionaries” (aka employees) working at “Dinosaur Adventure Land.” He was sent to prison in 2007 and was expected to get out in August 2015.

Was.

Hovind was indicted about 10 days ago, along with another guy, on mail fraud charges for filing legal documents (“lis pendens”) in an attempt to hang up the legal title on some of the properties associated with “Dinosaur Adventure Land.” The feds had seized the land as part of the fines and arrearages Hovind was determined to owe. He did this after being explicitly told by a federal judge not to do it. Apparently the judge and the prosecutor want to get this over *quick* since the actual trial is scheduled for December 1.

A little more in this article:

pnj.com

It should be noted that “Dr. Dino” has been a longtime fan of sovereign citizen theories and at one point tried to renounce his American citizenship to evade taxes. Some people think he shouldn’t be prosecuted and that it’s overkill, but I’m of the opinion that sovereign citizens are a plague and need to be dealt with.

Los Angeles!

The California Alligator Farm opened in 1907 and was located On Mission Road and Lincoln Park Avenue, right next door to the Los Angeles Ostrich Farm. At one point they had over 1,000 alligators on exhibit. The farm charged 25 cents admission and offered rides for children, views of incubating eggs, and also carried a complete line of alligator handbags and belts. The alligator farm was a major city tourist attraction in its heyday.

Fences surrounding the farm were not always successful in keeping alligators in and visitors out. Fraternity pranksters from local universities would occasionally try to steal alligators, and flood waters would sometimes result in stray alligators in Lincoln Park Lake. The alligators also annoyed neighbors with their loud bellowing and their occasional unwelcome presence in swimming pools and back yards.

The farm was closed in 1953 and the animals were moved to Buena Park. Rumor has it that the song “See You Later Alligator” recorded by Bill Haley and the Comets in 1955 was partly inspired by this event.

I used to let the kids pull the grocery cart when they were preschoolers. We had one of those ‘kid leashes’ with the harness that went on the chest and shoulders, and I’d tie the leash part to the cart. I did get a few odd looks from people now and them. The kids, however, loved it.

Okay…gotta look up some skis for my wife. Back in a few.

As much as I loathe their business practices - and the fact that Dan fucking Quayle sits on their board - K2 has awesome skis for women.

She already has a pair of K2 Burnin’ Luvs (which she loves) and Phat Luv powder skis. Looking at maybe getting her some Elan light weight all mountains - something with between 78-85 under foot…She’s got 70 with her Burnins and 90+ with the Phat Luvs already. Trying to push her into more off-piste without making her feel insecure on the steeper groomers - she’s still a solid advanced-intermediate skier, and transitioning into a side country dynamo isn’t a huge step, but psychologically it’s not easy.

BTW, we should arrange a ski weekend swap. Free room and board for you and a friend at Alpine Meadows for a weekend for the same in Colorado. Especially if it turns out to be an epic El Nino winter.

I won’t even patrol. I’ll just be a free mountain guide.

That sounds pretty cool! Truth be told I’ve never skied in California, or anywhere along the left coast. Furthest west I’ve been is Bogus Basin in Idaho.

re: #384 Vicious Piebola

My elderly husband (a true liberal) clicked on some bait, and got on several lists like this. He got more and more upset, and I couldn’t understand what he was upset about, and finally he was unable to do email any longer, and I found his email was full of this stuff. He was so confused by it. I can see how elderly people can get trapped by this, and end up swallowing ‘Faux’ propaganda and worse without question.
