Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars Bring the Uptown Funk to SNL

Uptown funk in midtown Manhattan

When I posted the official video yesterday for this galactically funky song by the Mark Ronson/Bruno Mars project I had no idea they were scheduled to be on Saturday Night Live that night, but here’s their great live performance to compare to the video.

(This sounds so clean I suspect some of the backing parts may have been pre-recorded.)

They’ve definitely brought the funk. Bruno Mars is definitely the showman.

If you haven’t had a chance, I’d definitely recommend seeing Mockingjay Part 1. It definitely isn’t the typical YA fare and it definitely goes more political than the first two movies (which if you choose to watch one, do watch the second since it rehashes the ground where the first tread). This installment definitely hits home themes that are relevant to the world as we know it today (not just some dystopian future).

For one, it hammers home the horrors of war in a way that’s seldom seen in movies and that even the victors come back haunted by what they’ve seen and done. It highlights what technological terrors that people dream up to fight the wars, and keep populations in check.

Because he knows a lot about how policing should work, and the NYPD under him developed a world-class ability to curtail civil disorder.

Hawver said earlier this year, however, he wasn’t really sweating losing his license because he was planning on leaving the legal profession anyway in order “to devote his time to growing vegetables in an aquaponics garden.” “I don’t think practicing law is productive,” he said.

He broke his promise to marry the gay friends who took him in during his divorce.

The gay car dealer who opened his home to Rudy Giuliani in 2001 during his humiliating divorce battle says the former mayor offered to preside at his wedding if same-sex marriage were ever legalized — but is now ducking his calls to make good on the offer.

“I asked if he would marry us,” recalled Howard Koeppel, the unlikely provider of an emergency Midtown crash pad to Giuliani for six months when his marriage to Donna Hanover was crumbling and Gracie Mansion was a war zone.

“He said, ‘Howard, I don’t ever do anything that’s not legal. If it becomes legal in New York, you’ll be one of the first ones I would marry.’ “

Ten years later, Koeppel is distressed that his former house guest hasn’t returned the many calls he began making before the legislation was passed last week.

“It seems like a lot of people he was close to become persona non grata,” Koeppel observed.

So yeah, Rudy in some ways is worse than a homophobe. He’s the kind of douche who, out of sheer political expedience, would break a promise to his friends who took him in when he was down. That’s pretty goddamned craven. Fuck that guy.

Not entirely accurate. The number has fluctuated over the years and doesn’t correlate with the number of officers. Same with the number of officers shot.

It’s down tremendously from 1970 to be sure, but the rate has fluctuated over the past 20 years.

See nytimes.com

And by the way, the NYPD is about the same size now as it was in 1992. And it’s down from 37,000 in 2002.

I ran into one of my middle school teachers on the chair lift whilst skiing today. Hadn’t seen her in almost 18 years. It took a few minutes for each of us to realize who we were. She complimented my skis, we shared chit chat, I told her where I was from, she asked what schools I went to, finally she just blurted out “Who ARE you?!?” Mind you, it was very snowy, windy and cold today, so we were pretty much covered up head to toe - that and Mrs. Stevenson has never seen me with facial hair until today! Her and I exchanged some delightful hysterics and hugged each other at the top of the lift. I was taken aback by how EXCITED she was to see me. I must have left an impression.

Weirdest chance encounter I’ve had in quite sometime.

I’m guessing to show the insane disconnect between how the right wing media treats Obama vs. people like Giuliani. There’s no reason to think that Obama is gay, but that’s a near constant refrain on the right. There was the Larry Sinclair hoax, the baseless allegations about Reggie Love, Obama couldn’t even hug Nina Pham without CCJ’s expert opinion on it being” how gay men hug straight women.”

Then you have someone like Rudy actually cross-dressing in public, which you’re right, should be anybody’s business. But what’s notable is that the right never made a thing about it, because he’s one of theirs, he’s “America’s Mayor.” More damning really is how Rudy turned his back on the gay friends who took him in during his ugly divorce, because he still wanted to run for President. The fact is he abandoned the close friends who were there for him when it mattered, because of the reality that the GOP is a hopelessly bigoted party.

74 HappyWarrior  Nov 23, 2014 6:24:40pm

I actually don’t care about Rudy dressing up in drag but I do find it funny that no Republican said anything about that but yet Obama wore a tan suit and many literally flipped their fucking shit. But I get it. Republicans in Congress love to get their anti-Obama outrage for their moron base who would flip out if Obama advocated breathing air.
