Great track from Jimmy! I think drums are the only other instrument - all the other stuff is done with effects on his acoustic guitar.

Stuffed pumpkin out of oven in 5 minutes. Biscuits in one the oven heats up to a higher temp. Everything else ready to go, so dinner in about 20 minutes.

Menu:
Grilled chicken fillet
Stuffed pumpkin (pumpkin filled with cheese, croutons, BACON, herbs)
Biscuits
Snap Peas (bit of butter and pepper on these)
New York Dry Reisling

Carrot cake and baklava for afters.

Very nice….
and kudos to Stagemeida and probably Fredrik Wasshisname (listed as an Ass)

There are some “grace notes” so to speak in the video layered around the shots where he watches the video while walking and probably a lot of other stuff I missed.

He’s a real artist and the folks who produced the video are as well. Perhaps the video is his as well and Stagemedia did what he told them to.

Very nice.

I’m sure they do, but there are also security implications because when images are loaded from another site, lots of tricky things are possible. It’s just a bad idea from a security angle.

53 Charles Johnson  Nov 27, 2014 2:28:08pm

Image sites want you to embed their images because it gives them useful tracking information they can market.

Since we are one the topic of pie… have a question.

When you are getting ready to eat a piece of pie, do you start at the point, or do you start at the back crust, so that you’re eating it from the “outside” in.

I’m in the outside-in camp, since that way you don’t get caught at the end with crust but not much filling.

Believe it or not, in my family, while this has never been a source of argument, there have been some discussions about the topic.

115 teleskiguy  Nov 27, 2014 7:01:50pm

I am thankful that I get to live and observe this little corner of the universe.

A quick review of our solar system makes it clear that good planets are hard to find. The sun hosts eight worlds, at least six large moons, countless asteroids and countless comets. Of all those bodies there is only one place with warm oceans and blue skies and cool breezes and rainfall. And, of all the sun’s children, there is only one place where life has run riot.

It’s easy to take the Earth — and its ceaseless buzzing of wings and legs and fins — for granted. It’s easy to forget its staggering beauty or its almost incomprehensible strangeness in the near vacuum of interstellar space. But in its subtle coupling of air, ice, water and rock, our planet is nothing short of a miracle.

There are, likely, much worse places in the cosmos to try and eek out a lifetime. Places with less color, less majesty, less warmth, less coolness, less joy, less wonder. So, no matter what your year has been like — no matter what you may have lost — there is always the Earth.

I don’t need that at all. They are beautiful slices tho.

The kitchen is pretty much cleaned up, the leftovers put away, the garbage is on the curb for the pickup tomorrow. I have a feeling that I’m going be awake for about the next hour at most, then I’m going to sleep like a log.

No work tomorrow, I’m not going to any of the malls or stores for black friday. I probably will swing by the dive shop, say hi to the folks there, and I know that it won’t be “combat shopping”.

Talk to ya all later.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. I got to make three dogs vomit today because one of them ate a bottle of Rimadyl and nobody would admit to it. The fourth dog is too old to have been a part of the adventure.

BTW, if you ever need to get something out of your dog’s stomach, 1ml of Hydrogen Peroxide per lb of dog (eg: 60 mls for a 60 lb dog) squirted down the throat with a turkey baster does the trick in about 10 minutes.

It’s a good thing to know.

We are back home just ‘cause Dragon_Lady said so. She prepped her moms house, managed, shopped and arranged all the details to feed 15 family members today at her moms house. Great meal, Home made brine for the bird, ham, 2 kinds of stuffing, cheesecake, deviled eggs, cookies, fudge… did I mention the cheesecake? Others filled in with countless other dishes. Seriously she had 3 straight days hard work, I never felt so guilty for going into my regular work. She is beat so we came on home a lil early.

I’m working throughout the weekend, the ski shop beckons. Today was nice, the chef of the hotel where the ski shop is located brought two carts of food to our back door, a full turkey dinner spread for all the ski shop employees.

I thought the cranberry sauce was a little too tart. And the mashed potatoes seemed like they had way too much cream and butter (what do you want for nuthin?). But I had a turkey dinner at work! All we have to do in return is outfit the chef and his friends with gear later in the winter.

Indeed yes, if true — but I don’t trust the source. The “surgery that could save her life” in the case of an amniotic fluid embolism IS a caesarean section. It could be that they’re making up the heroic self-sacrifice to further a pro-life agenda.

How do you get that from that short article? Neither it nor the accompanying news report give any details on how Karisa Bugal made her decision. Are we even sure religion was a factor, William? Neither the article nor the news report give any insight into what if any faith Karisa Bugal adhered to, nor if she said anything explaining her decision. Without knowing what views she was exposed to, what advice she was given, and what she believed, it is impossible to fault anyone or any organization for her decision.

For what its worth, Perez Hilton reported the Karisa Bugal story as well, and he’s no type of wingnut.

To me, this looks like a tragedy that some on the right are using to claim greater endorsement of their views than can be justified.

Karisa Bugal died tragically, but not senselessly. She died so her son could have the best chance at living and that was an honorable act. We should honor her love and willingness to sacrifice, and respect her decision. Doing so does not preclude hammering anti-access-to-abortion* organizations that try to use her story as a rallying cry, and in fact places pro-access-to-abortion* groups in the strongest possible position to reply.

*: I realize that the terms I used to describe the sides in the abortion argument are non-standard and clunky, but to me they are the most accurate terms available and so I use them to avoid verbal missteps.

I live in a resort area. Part of the price you pay for living in paradise is that you work holidays.

I asked a local lady at the grocery store yesterday if she would make it home in time for TGiving dinner. She said they all work resorts and had TGiving dinner yesterday.

A recent family thing is that we go to Waikiki on Xmas Eve/Day. You would think it would be dead. No way, it’s packed busy with foreigners and Japanese. All the locals are still working full shifts on those days.

The least we could do is pay them a little better. A pittance, really.

Top of the fold, ma!

Good morning all and Happy Turkey Hangover!!

So we wake up and find out a “shooter” (why is a white guy always a shooter and the black or brown guy is always a suspected terrorist?) blasted away at the Mexican Consulate (just like Benghazi!), the Fed Courthouse, and the Cop Shop, where an Equestrian Officer, just off of Sixth Street duty, shot him down to end his senseless rampage.

This is exciting news! Our sister-in-law in Bedfordshire, UK, told us about it first!

It’s got everything. Crazy man, possible explosive vest (still not a terrorist yet, being white and shit), international impact (Why is the US incapable of protecting Mexican property in our borders? We are as incompetent as Libyans!) and shot down by a peace officer on a horse!

Thank the gawds he lived north of the river and not down here in the ‘04. But as a story, it’s definitely Keeping Austin Weird.

We had a quiet Thanksgiving, just the 4 of us. The older boy helped a lot, but still couldn’t bring himself to do ‘yucky’ things like mixing the eggs into the stuffing, washing the bird, or stuffing and trussing it. Wimp!

I wrote up a bunch of Thanksgiving memories and sent them off to my Dad and siblings. I hope someone printed it out for Dad! I’m the youngest of 6 kids, and we used to do some HUGE Thanksgiving dinners - up to 35 people, all jammed in like sardines, the sideboard groaning under the weight of all the food.

One regret I have about living so far away from the rest of the family - being unable to share the big holiday events with my own kids. Their memories will be different from mine. I hope they’ll be as happy!

In truth, I baked a 13lb Trader Joe’s bird. It was the smallest I could find. Our son feels that it just isn’t Thanksgiving without a turkey. We don’t red meat more than three or four times a year so the leftovers will be gone by Tuesday.

- Grown woman and approx. 7-year old girl, fighting over a child’s chair; woman slaps girl, girl bites woman.
- Male shopper interferes with unwrapping of a pallet of electronics, hoping to get first selection, is asked by female employee to step back. Man punches employee for interfering with his bargain hunt. Man arrested.
- Loading dock employees have to be protected by police when shoppers confused by terms of the One Hour Guarantee are frustrated in their attempts to bully the purchased item immediately out of the back of the store, and threaten dire revenge.

Unbelievable. So, someone rampages through downtown Austin TX and fires off how many shots? He’s ultimately killed, but those shots hit any number of buildings, including the Mexican consulate and Austin PD HQ. Attempted to start a fire at the consulate but was extinguished before serious damage could occur.

This story is relegated to the below the fold and isn’t even treated as a major story in the NYT. Had to go hunting around for it. That seems, well, odd. Apparently, it’s more important to cover Black Friday than to identify yet another gunman who decided to let his itchy trigger finger do the talking. This gunman was shot and killed by Austin police. [ed: added:] Whether he took his own life or was killed by police is still to be determined.

The amount of information about who was involved, and possible motives is lacking.

Meanwhile, although some police in Ferguson were trying to defuse the tensions, others were blocking people from coming in and trying to clean up the damage done. Why?

A group of people in Ferguson, Missouri, on Friday attempted to enter a main thoroughfare of the St. Louis suburb to clean up stores damaged in this week’s racially charged rioting but a line of police blocked them from entering the area.

West Florissant Avenue is home to a Walgreen Co store and other businesses that were looted or burned on Monday after a decision by a grand jury not to indict a white police officer in the shooting death of an unarmed black teenager in August.

Armed with brooms and trash bags, a small group of people tried to walk down the avenue, which has been closed to traffic since Monday, before officers stopped them.

“There are businesses and people sectioned off from the rest of Ferguson,” said Lou Bailey, 37, a project manager. “We need to get in there and clean up.”

Just another day in the USA.

Yes:

Even before the Thursday night speech, people like Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) — a conservative, but known as a personal friend of the president — were sounding apoplectic as details of Obama’s planned executive actions leaked out. Coburn warned that they could lead to “anarchy” and “violence” in the streets.

“AUSTIN — The man who died after shooting at least 100 rounds at several downtown buildings early Friday morning, including the Austin Police Department’s headquarters, has been identified.

(snip)

“Some of the targeted buildings are near the popular 6th Street entertainment district, where bars close at 2 a.m. — about the same time the shootings began. Chief Acevedo noted that thousands of people are typically on the street at that time.

“Many, many rounds were fired in downtown Austin,” Acevedo said. “With all the people on the streets, we’re very fortunate. I give thanks that no one but the suspect is injured or deceased.” More

Who the hell would want to live back then? No sanitation, a scratch-it-out existence for the average person—along with one’s existence being dictated by the Church—-no medical care—a short, brutish existence under monarchies, and where 20% of children died before their 5th birthday and women often died in childbirth, each of her multiple births a potential death sentence.

Just the sort of low class type that graduates from East Carolina.

And she works for Stephen Fincher (R-TN).

“Fincher is a fiscal and social conservative, who at the same time benefits from government farm subsidies. He is strongly pro-life and pro-gun, and opposes same-sex marriage. On the issues section of his Website, he lists his top priority as restoring “limited government.” He does not consider himself a traditional politician; his slogan in 2010 was “My roots are in Tennessee, not in politics.”[21]

In September 2011, Fincher was named one of the “Most Corrupt Members of Congress” for 2011 by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, specifically citing the Gates Banking loan.[22]

In 2012, Fincher received the largest election contribution from the NRA; more than any US Senator or Representative.[23]
