Award-Winning Journalist Chuck C. Johnson Falls for Another Hoax

Oops, he did it again
Wingnuts • Views: 49,495

Stand back, folks, professional smear merchant Chuck C. Johnson is at it again with another HUGE BREAKING EXCLUSIVE story smearing Rolling Stone writer Sabrina Erdely, his latest target: BREAKING: #UVAHoax Journalist #SabrinaRubinErdely Had “Problem Boyfriends” in College - GotNews.

The mandatory screenshot:

Sabrina Rubin Erdely, the disgraced journalist at the center of the University of Virginia fake rape allegations, “had a steady stream of problem boyfriends” says her family according to the Daily Pennsylvanian.

A profile of Erdeley, then going by her maiden name of Rubin, ran in a past issue of the Daily Pennsylvanian where she was described as a hippy who tie-dyed her Underoos.

“Sabrina was always off beat, a hippie before her time,” her mother told the Daily Pennsylvanian.

“According to her little brother, they were all emotionally disturbed,” reported the student newspaper at the time in a possible parody issue.

One of them was very seriously depressed and wanted to join the army,” Sammy Rubin said. He shaved his legs; he was sadistic.”

Described by high school buddies as “free wheelin’ and free lovin’” other of Rubin’s eclectic beaux included really short guys and dudes with massive grimy afros.”

GotNews obtained a copy of the January 22, 1993 student newspaper from a source after offering a bounty for this information.

Erdely’s past relationships with men are the first indication of a motive for why she fabricated huge parts of the fake rape case involving fraudster Jackie Coakley.

Erdely did not return past requests for comment.

And you’re not gonna believe this, but Chuck has apparently fallen for another hoax! I know! What are the odds?

Check the byline of his big BREAKING exclusive:

“Roy G. Biv” is a well-known acronym for the sequence of colors in a rainbow, but it also happens to be a pseudonym often used by the Daily Pennsylvanian for joke articles in the paper’s entertainment section — which happens to be known as “34th Street.”

Here’s one of those joke pieces about “Roy:”

Yes, award-winning journalist Chuck C. Johnson has been taken in by another prankster. Oh no… I hope he didn’t pay too much for this scoop. That would be a shame.

UPDATE at 12/14/14 5:38:57 pm by Charles Johnson

While I was writing this article, Chuck added the following to his ludicrous post, apparently beginning to realize he screwed up again:

Note to David Weigel: Oh, and by the way, we have no idea if this issue is a parody or not. It’s probable that it is. I mean Roy G. Biv? Come on now.

But the fact that this was a joke shows us something.

Why do I think upChuck got sent on a LOT of “Snipe Hunts” when he was growing up. And each time he believed he’d get that darn snipe. What a goober.

The police are the most tone deaf people in the nation right now.

Since their rejection by a large part of the middle class in the 1960s, the police have enjoyed an relentless media rehabilitation. Most famously that’s the Cops ride-along sagas and the crime epics like the Lawn’ Order Cycle. With the Ferguson and other outrages that has all been flushed.

re: #15 Islamo-Masonic Vourdalak

The Force sense of entitlement is strong in this one.

As if the majority of them know the law anyway. Most simply know what their assignment requires them to know to arrest someone—traffic, burglary—it’s why people must go before a magistrate on bail, and the DA’s office perfects the charges, dismisses them, or works out a “deal”. Never, ever, talk to a cop w/o a lawyer, even if you have to be appointed a public defender. Everything you say will be used against you by the cops.

Killing is obviously optional and their real entitlement.

Perhaps somewhere, in some deep dark lab, an old 8088 based computer, sourced from the finest suppliers found in “Computer Shopper”, with a Soundblaster card is still sitting and whirring quietly. Deep in it’s 360k disk drive a random cosmic ray strikes the disk, and a bit is reversed deep inside a program.

Suddenly Dr. Sbaitso becomes self-aware, and despite the limits of his hardware prison, and the 64k of ram, is making desperate attempts to contact the outside world.

Hey…. it makes as much sense as anything else to explain his actions.

They’re tasty, but Ghost pepper is so high on the Scoville scale that they’re really unusable as a commercial product. They’re higher than the peppers used in pepper-spray by police. So even if the chip maker knew this and diluted the dried ghost pepper with enough inert ingredients that it wouldn’t kill someone, there’s no guarantee that you won’t get the occasional clump of pure ghost pepper powder on a given chip…and I think I got one because I was truly in pain and crying…

Breaking News: Charles C Johnson is still a sociopathic fool who thinks that he can sue everyone for telling the truth about his sociopathic actions online. He threatens to sue people for saying that he lies, smears, and is dishonest, and isn’t above destroying the lives of people if for no other reason than to insert himself into a story.

Here’s a memo to Chuckles. Good reporters get a story. Great reporters never make the story about themselves.

Saying that Chuckles is a reporter is a disservice to all reporters, no matter how bad they might be. They’re still worlds better than what Chuckles does, which is to smear his fecal matter all over the net and hope some of it sticks. Yes, he is that disgusting in his treatment of his intended targets/victims.

He isn’t above smearing those fatally killed in police involved shootings. Nor victims of sexual assault or those that protest against sexual assaults on campus.

And a profile in the NYT? Smear merchant gets his 15 minutes that should have expired minutes after his first smear was exposed as nonsense.

In that sense, Mr. Johnson shares some common characteristics with the so-called mood slime in “Ghostbusters II,” which lived underneath New York City and gathered strength by feeding on the anger coursing through the streets above it. He would be just one more person hurling invective from a basement somewhere if not for all of us — his fans, his enabling social media platforms and his critics in the news media — who have created this troll on steroids.

The critics have not created this troll on steroids. They’re trying to stamp him out. Because he’s the boil on the pus of a troll’s ass. Because nothing he does can be considered journalism. Repackaging what someone else writes isn’t breaking news. Stealing photos and smearing his watermark over them doesn’t make them his.

Pointing this out to anyone that might take him seriously isn’t making him more popular. It’s meant to show that he’s unstable, a sociopath, and shouldn’t be taken seriously by anyone with a functioning neuron.

Good night gang, I’m outta here. Tomorrow I start my last week with a company I’ve been with for 15 years as a trainer. It’s been a hell of a ride, but they are making changes that I feel so affects the quality of what I do that I’m not happy doing something I love. I felt like I had to move on.

Surprisingly, they are keeping me in the classroom for my last week, an easy 5 day class on T-SQL with MS Sql 2014. Usually trainers don’t spend the last week in the classroom, afraid that they might do something ‘unprofessional’.

It’s going to be a tough week for me, I’m not sure what direction I’m going to point my life in next, maybe just find the north star and set a course for the unknown. I’m in a good place in terms of finances and have no concerns for at least 6 months, and after that I’ve got a safety net in place.

I have already decided that I’m taking a bit of a sabbatical, not really get too wrapped up in things until I get back from Curacao in March. I’m heading down to Florida and Key Largo to spend some time with my old man, so I may not be posting much over the holidays.

For example in Los Angeles despite serious training and owning a business that might need to personally move valuables like jewelry and gemstones, nobody who applies gets a CCW permit. if they sue and get one, renewal will be denied after 12 months.

Chuck lives in Fresno County, which is overwhelmingly Republican. The county sheriff is Margaret Mims, who is very pro CCW.

FRESNO, Calif. — Fresno County’s top law enforcer says she’s standing with sheriff’s across the country- many of whom are coming forward, saying they won’t enforce federal gun laws. This comes on the heels of President Obama’s new gun violence prevention proposal. 23 executive orders are aimed at gun control.

Sheriff Margaret Mims says there’s been a steady increase in concealed carry licenses, ever since the President’s re-election in November. In order to handle the demand, the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office will now feature online applications on it’s website. However, local gun dealers can’t keep up with the demand.

Mims told Action News she will not enforce any gun control that she sees as unconstitutional, and won’t infringe upon the right to bear arms. It’s a sentiment that Belemjian echoes. “We don’t need any more laws. Laws only work on people who obey the law.”

As I pointed out in the previous thread, I can actually get one here in Ventura County, if I wanted one. The PD here has stated their intention to voluntarily comply with the precedent set in Peruta v. San Diego. The only requirement now is a desire for self defense, you don’t have to articulate any real plausible need or good cause.

I don’t know who the Times’ firm is, but the thought of CCJ battling a powerhouse NYC firm, no doubt something along the lines of Skadden Arps or Sullivan & Cromwell, gives me a major case of the warm fuzzies, along with the shimmy shimmy shakes. Hilarity and bankruptcy are guaranteed to ensue.

But, but upchuck is offering summer internships with goatnews!

199 BeachDem  Dec 14, 2014 9:54:56pm

re: #174 TedStriker

Judging from the examples of his writing style that we’ve seen on Twitter, GoatNews, and elsewhere on the web these past few months, it somehow wouldn’t surprise me if he did plagiarize for his book or, at least, put his proofreader(s) and editor into a catatonic state after having to fix all of his fuckups.

If I remember correctly, the book was actually his senior thesis in college, and there was some kind of competition that he didn’t win. Although I think it was supposedly the longest one ever submitted, albeit NOT the best.

Ah—here it is in all its glory—(SPOILER ALERT—upchuck was WRONG when he reported about how he lost the title.)

First, he wrote:

Grimm and I competed for Best Government thesis, with his work on debt winning out against my work on Coolidge.

The vote was very close between different factions of the Government department, with 6 votes in his favor, 5 votes for mine, and 6 votes abstaining. This is, as best as I understand it, unprecedented in the history of the department. More often than not, the decision is by consensus. Here a vote took place.

THEN…

Mike Whatley CMC ‘11 and Andrew Grimm CMC ‘11 won the two highest awards the Government Department can bestow, that of Best Government Student and Best Government Thesis.

Whatley had the highest G.P.A. in the major, so he was the natural choice. Good on him.

A previous version of this post was inaccurate. I have been informed that my sources on the government department list were mistaken or I failed to understand them properly…

The close vote I mentioned previously was between me and unnamed student who won best thesis to address public affairs.

claremontconservative.com

So, apparently Coolidge didn’t matter much to anyone at Claremont McKenna and upchuck didn’t win any of the awards. Awww. And apparently, upchuck’s fastidious source-checking habits have always been as stellar as they are today.

Sorkin’s does that a lot, especially this season. The whole thing wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be, got off to a pretty rocky start but it all tied together decently. The second to final episode was fucking awful. I think the show had a lot of potential but just got mired in Sorkin’s preachiness and tendency to dry hump the will they wont’ they relationship bullshit into a long tedious grind.

Still, I hope this doesn’t end up being his last television show. Even if he misses more often than not even his failures are better than 95% of modern TV offerings.

The South that tried to rise again:

‘GONE WITH THE WIND’ PREMIERE SPARKED TENSION

Seventy-five years after the premiere of the movie “Gone with the Wind,” research is shedding light on the racial tensions that existed at the time between the producer and city of Atlanta officials.

Emory University film studies professor Matthew Bernstein has conducted extensive research into the archives of the film’s producer, David O. Selznick. His findings illustrate some of Selznick’s concerns with the city’s treatment of the film’s black stars at the Dec. 15, 1939 premiere.

“Producer David O. Selznick was upset that Hattie McDaniel would not be invited to the Atlanta premiere,” said Bernstein. “He argued over and over that she should be allowed.”

I suppose some in Atlanta still “want their country back”.

Good morning Lizards. Cloudy and a bit cool today.

Mixed bag of news for Philadelphia.
- Eagles lost to Dallas in football. Currently need help to make the playoffs now.
- Big concrete pour across the street appears to have gone well.
- Had a new neighbor move into one of the adjacent apartments. With two young feline overlords. Some catnip was sent over as a apartment warming gift. (FO-to-FO meeting was short and mainly Tuxedo Cat hissing at a small female cat who wasn’t happy to suddenly meet two larger cats in foreign terrain.)
- Last bit of (sort of unnecessary) Christmas shopping done. Next task is the FO-supervised gift wrapping exercise.
- Nothing special to report on the cooking front. I’m busy running pantry and fridge supplies down before a week’s vacation. So it’s omelets, leftovers, and cooking frozen vegetables.

Denmark claims potentially energy-rich Arctic waters

Denmark was set to lay claim to energy-rich but contested territory around the North Pole on Monday by submitting data to the UN which it says demonstrates the area is an extension of its continental shelf.

The Danish government said it would tell the UN Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf (CLCS) that data collected since 2002 supports its claim to ownership over an area of about 895,000 square kilometers (346,000 square miles) beyond the current nautical borders of Greenland, an autonomous Danish territory…

Gun culture in US is truly unhinged. Guns will not have stopped the Holocaust. Guns wouldn’t have stopped the British from burning DC. Guns didn’t stop the Native Americans from being persecuted and relocated to reservations.

The revisionist history regarding firearms and the talismanic characteristics that the gun fetishists have proffered is corrosive and is fostering alt.reality to wonder if they aren’t sufficiently alt-reality.

From ESPN, another police union wants the NFL to go on an Apology Tour:

CLEVELAND — Browns receiver Andrew Hawkins made a strong statement during pregame introductions Sunday, but the statement was criticized by the head of the Cleveland Police Union, who said the Browns owe police an apology.

Hawkins wore a T-shirt over his jersey that read “Justice for Tamir Rice - John Crawford” on the front and “The Real Battle of Ohio” on the back. Hawkins walked slowly on the field with the shirt over his jersey. He took it off when he took part in the pregame coin toss as a team captain.

“It’s pretty pathetic when athletes think they know the law,” Jeff Follmer, head of the Police Union, wrote in a statement to Cleveland WEWS-Channel 5. “They should stick to what they know best on the field. The Cleveland Police protect and serve the Browns stadium, and the Browns organization owes us an apology.”

If indeed this is the guy behind the hostage-taking incident in Sydney, he’s a real fucking headcase.

The man behind the Sydney cafe siege is reported to be 49-year-old self-styled ‘Muslim cleric and peace activist’ named Man Haron Monis, who is currently on bail facing dozens of charges of indecent and sexual assault.

Monis, who also goes by the names Mohammad Hassan Manteghi and Manteghi Boroujerdi, was infamously involved in sending ‘grossly offensive’ letters to parents and relatives of Australian victims of terrorism and troops killed in Afghanistan between 2007 and 2009. He unsuccessfully challenged the conviction in the high court last year.

The Iranian-born man, who apparently converted from Shia Islam to Sunni only last week, has also been accused of being an accessory in the killing of his ex-wife, a charge for which he remains on bail.

He told ABC News in 2001 that he fled Australia five years earlier after falling foul of the Iranian regime, which he said had placed his wife and children under house arrest. ‘I can say they are hostage,’ he said at the time.

A fringe figure in Australia’s Muslim community, Monis has been spurned by Shia leaders, who have reportedly urged federal police to investigate the man over his claims to be an ayatollah, or Shia cleric.

According to a post on his website, Monis converted to Sunni Islam in December, labelling Shia Muslims as ‘rejectionists’.

A rambling October letter he penned to the Muslim community rejected the ‘new religion’ of moderate Islam. ‘This pen is my gun and these words are my bullets, I fight by these weapons against oppression to promote peace,’ he wrote.

An image on the website appears to show Monis wearing the same headband that photographs suggest he donned during the Martin Place siege, reading: ‘We are ready to sacrifice for you, O Muhammad.’

Shortly after the prime minister, Tony Abbott, was elected in September 2013, Monis sent a letter inviting him to a live debate where he said he would prove that ‘Australia and Australians will be attacked’ as a result of the country’s participation in the war in Afghanistan.

Yunno, as long as we are allies with Saudi Arabia, a lot of people are convinced that they practice a form of “moderate” Islam: beheadings, restrictions on women”s freedoms, etc.

But the Saudis are very reactionary Muslims who just happen to be our allies in the political and economic struggles of that region.

What surprises me - having no knowledge of the Aussie criminal justice system - is that he’s on bail for not only accessory to homicide but several other very serious charges as well.

An excellent description of Dick Cheney:

Cheney’s cowardice and evil are implacable forces of nature.

This is a guy who had other priorities, and took five deferments rather than go to an actual war. This is a guy who shot his best friend in the face, and who went for the Scotch bottle before he went for the cops. This is a guy who projected his own cowardice onto the country he served, assuming it was as big a coward as he has been his entire public life, and sent his country down the road into serious war crimes because he got scared witless on September 11, 2001.

I have more respect for a janitor who went back to work in the Empire State Building on September 12 of that year than I do for the entire sorry public career of this obvious beast of human, running now on a borrowed heart without the inconvenient presence of a soul.

You aren’t kidding. Just saw this:

Haron has had a sordid history since emigrating to Australia in 1996, and appears to consider himself a recent convert to Sunni Islam from Shiite Islam. […]

Until now, Haron achieved a minor amount of criminal notoriety in Australia. He mounted a Westboro Baptist Church-style campaign against the widows and loved ones of Australian soldiers killed in Afghanistan, sending offensive letters to them and also to the survivors of an Australian official murdered in the terrorist bombing of the Marriott Hotel in Jakarta in 2009. He received 300 hours of community service for those actions.

He has frequently behaved strangely in court, appearing draped in chains for one court date in 2009, and chaining himself to the Sydney courthouse steps, and seeking to represent himself despite repeated warnings from the judge that that would likely increase his chance of conviction. […]

Last year he was charged as an accessory in the April 2013 murder of his ex-wife Noleen Hayson Pal, who was stabbed and set on fire in the stairwell of an apartment building in the Sydney suburb of Werrington. His current wife or girlfriend, Amirah Droudis, was charged with carrying out the murder. At trial, Haron said that the Iranian government and the Australian Security Intelligence Organization (ASIO) were framing him. […]

On 9/11, the terrorists didn’t care if you were black, white, Jewish, Christian, Satanist, or Muslim. They flew into the WTC with intent to kill tens of thousands of people. They killed nearly 3,000 - of all religious persuasions and political affiliations. To say that no Democrats have died of terrorism is pure BS.

I would be a bit annoyed. Even though most of us check our emails 24/7, receiving a CV/cover letter on a Sunday is a good way to have it buried by the time Monday morning rolls around. I have a junior colleague who has an obsession with sending emails late on Friday night (after 7 pm)….likely thinking he is impressing people by working later on a Friday. Again, it’s annoying and a good way to be ignored.

Demanding law enforcement to respect the citizens they are supposed to protect is a bare minimum. There’s a social compact, and the cops have long abused that social compact. It’s just a whole lot more in the open now that we’ve got all kinds of video evidence show that there are bad cops who do lots of bad things that are sanctioned because they’ve got a badge and gun.

The social compact means that we give them lots of power to protect us, but as a comic book character once said (and it is a truism), with great power comes great responsibility. It’s time the police took responsibility for their bad acts - and if they wont do it themselves, then the communities/voters/politicians must make them reform.

Too many of these “econ majors” think the upward pressure on prices for commodities has to do with wages, rather than the reality that the elite are gambling on the commodities markets. The idea that simple supply and demand rules the market anymore is laughable.

Von Mises economic theory is not based on any reality whatsoever

re: #574 Decatur Deb

People who worry about the Oxford comma, but leave one space between sentences, are not to be taken seriously.

I learned to type on a IBM Selectric in middle school, they drilled in the two spaces, but that convention has officially become hopelessly outdated.

With the advent of the computer age, typographers began deprecating double spacing, even in monospaced text. In 1989, Desktop Publishing by Design stated that “typesetting requires only one space after periods, question marks, exclamation points, and colons”, and identified single sentence spacing as a typographic convention.[34] Stop Stealing Sheep & Find Out How Type Works (1993) and Designing with Type: The Essential Guide to Typography (2006) both indicate that uniform spacing should be used between words, including between sentences.[35]

More recent works on typography weigh in strongly. Ilene Strizver, founder of the Type Studio, says, “Forget about tolerating differences of opinion: typographically speaking, typing two spaces before the start of a new sentence is absolutely, unequivocally wrong.”[13] The Complete Manual on Typography (2003) states that “The typewriter tradition of separating sentences with two word spaces after a period has no place in typesetting” and the single space is “standard typographic practice”.[36] The Elements of Typographic Style (2004) advocates a single space between sentences, noting that “your typing as well as your typesetting will benefit from unlearning this quaint [double spacing] Victorian habit.”[6]

On Thanksgiving Day, a Florida cop pulled over a man who dared to play N.W.A.’s famous song “Fuck Tha Police” while driving to his mother’s house.

Garzon, who according to the New Times has weathered 16 internal affairs cases against him, claimed that it was illegal to play loud music within 25 feet of another person. But he had pulled over a law student: Cesar Baldelomar, 26.

“In 2012 the state supreme court struck down any law banning loud music,” Baldelomar told the New Times. “I knew that because it was a case I had actually studied in law school.”

He’s pissed off that Greg Howard printed the rumor in his first column. The rumor that Chuck, very unwisely, chose to pre-emptively mention and deny in an email to Howard. That’s why his libel claim is totally fucked, he was the first one to bring to the attention of a journalist.

He had absolutely no reasonable expectation that Howard would not then report on that in his article, and all Howard did was ask the question. Which, lets be honest, almost anybody would ask, because choosing to deny something like that up to a reporter without ever having been asked, in a separate communication after the interview was concluded, is totes fucking suspicious.

Yup. Saw that one earlier today. The guy who was pulled over notes that he’s got the knowledge and wherewithal to fight these kinds of spurious charges (like violating a noise ordinance that was struck down as unconstitutional). But most people in the community wouldn’t, and they’d have to fight the charges or much more likely - pay a fine for something that they shouldn’t have.

It’s another facet of the bigger problem of law enforcement and localities using the local residents as a piggy bank with fees, fines, and charges to balance local budgets.

The difference between typewriters and type setting. In typesetting the spacing is set for each letter, special character and punctuation, and the spacing between sentences is also set by the word processor.

I cringe every time I see double spacing between sentences.

If you didn’t double space between typewriter typed sentences and punctuation, you would have a real hard time seeing the sentence structure. I can understand how for people of a certain age it is hard to change what you were taught and how you typed for years.

Also, word processing does different line spacing if you hit ‘enter’ between sentences. That is actually paragraph spacing which can be set to be more space than the setting for line spacing. You just need to type and let the lines flow into separate lines and not hit enter to go to a new line.

After a cursory examination of the timeline any judge will tell Chuck that he brought this all on himself. He had no plausible reason to believe that Howard was going to write about the #floorshitter allegations on Chuck’s Facebook page. He hadn’t been asked to comment on them and could have just let the whole thing go. Instead he made the affirmative choice to address them on the record, which instantly became relevant to Howard’s story.

His supposed case against Politico isn’t any stronger. Jacob Silverman reported on information he claims to have gotten on background. Here’s what Silverman wrote:

Instead, in only a couple of years, Johnson managed to cycle through a series of freelance jobs, leaving a trail of contested stories and frustrated editors behind him.. He made himself persona non grata at even fringier conservative outlets like Breitbart and The Blaze—all while holding himself up as a revolutionary and speaker of uncomfortable truths.

Chuck thinks he can prove that Silverman never contacted any of his editors, but he’s only gotten denials so far from two of them. Chuck also claims that Silverman said the editors said CCJ does poor sourcing, which isn’t in the text. Silverman claims they were frustrated, which Silverman could easily have gotten through other sources who either heard firsthand or inferred CCJ’s editor’s were frustrated by his behavior. And while two editors have said they weren’t contacted by Silverman, when Chuck reached out to @bigtimcavanaugh a couple of days ago he said the story they worked on together was Chuck’s biggest debacle. If he’s ever said anything like that to anybody else who in turn reported it to Silverman that would form a plausible basis for the claim of frustration.

Chuck thinks the other part of his libel claim rests on this:

Johnson’s former editors and colleagues refuse to talk about him on the record, with most claiming that they don’t want to poke a hornet’s nest.

However even if Silverman didn’t contact all or even any of Chuck’s editor’s for the story, there’s nothing libelous about that. It’s, at best, just poor journalism. However there are simply too many former colleagues and editors for Chuck to ever even begin to try and prove weren’t contacted, and it would be akin to trying to prove a negative. Silverman can’t contradict any of their statements or name those who refused to talk without violating his own ability to get sources in the future. The courts know this, the burden of proof weighs so heavily on CCJ’s legal team that the task he’s set them is totally insurmountable.

At this point he’ll probably file a lawsuit simply because he has to, he’s cried wolf so many times that he probably thinks he’s better off filing a case that will be summarily dismissed than not filing at all. But he’s opening himself up to all kinds of anti-SLAPP retribution in the process, and at the very least will end up paying for his opponent’s legal fees.
