I can’t help it; when Michele Bachmann boasts about outsmarting liberals with “evidence-based arguments,” I just start to giggle uncontrollably. Every time I watch this clip I crack up.

Yes, she outsmarted us so much that that’s why she’s retiring…no wait, that’s because she’s trying to stay one step ahead of House ethics investigators.

3 Kragar  Dec 18, 2014 11:39:15am

Was this before or after she charged in like the Light Brigade?

4 jaunte  Dec 18, 2014 11:39:59am

WND commenters not impressed:

melvin e. holliday
“…Ms Bachmann would like to remain silent of the fact that her and everyone else in Congress remained silent while letting Obama be elected at a time when she had to know that he wasn’t eligible. Yes she is one of our better Congress women/men and if she is the best we can do then America is going to continue being in big trouble even after Obama gets done destroying what he hasn’t already destroyed. Obama’s eligibility was never questioned by anyone in Congress at the time when a single challenge to his eligibility would have forced a complete vetting of the usurper….”

6 Zamb  Dec 18, 2014 11:41:14am

To be fair to her, the conservative version of facts and evidence is just to shout LOGIC! and FOUNDING FATHERS! until people walk away then declare victory. So she probably does believe she came out ahead in many arguments.

re: #7 Mike Lamb

I’m reading down the comments there, and he’s actually one of the more reasonable sounding.

Here’s ‘tom’ for instance:

Bachmann is and was a great Politician with a heart after righteousness, which could not seem to infiltrate and spread like fire, in Washington. Just like Hollywood, Washington is a cesspoll of filth and sin……….IT WILL COME BACK TO BITE THEM HARD……as more and more Americans understand what is at stake here.
WHEN you spend your money to support SIN and UNRIGHTEOUSNESS, whether in Hollywood, giving to a political persuasion that means to do harm to America, to a business that donates money to sinful causes, such as homosexuality, then God SEES THAT OF YOU and WILL NOT BLESS YOU.

1. Read national story.

The RW collective fauxrage: Obama’s going to open up an Embassy in Cuba! STOP HIM. That’s giving away the farm.

PBO: We have embassies in Russia and China.

But this is Cuba. No embassy there. None. Never. It would give into barbarism and human rights abuses.

PBO: See US embassies in Russia and China. Or Saudi Arabia. Pakistan. Vietnam. Afghanistan. Or Latin American or African tinpot dictatorships and any other country that had human rights abuses and that we still have normalized relations. Normalized relations doesn’t mean allies or friends. It means that there’s normal communications.

But we can’t open an embassy in Cuba. Think of the cost!

You know the difference between an Interest Section and Embassy?

Ummmm..

It’s naming an ambassador. The building is still there. We still have staff there.

So, there is a cost! AHA!

Not really. There’s already a head of the Interest Section. That position has been on the payroll for decades. Only difference will be that the position will have title of Ambassador. [and that person already has the title of Ambassador!]

So, I can get the GOP to block the nomination! WOO!!

Right, because acting Ambassador isn’t any different than Ambassador when it comes down to normalized relations. They still have the same duties and role.

GRRR. So, maybe then I can stop you from lifting the embargo.

I haven’t lifted the embargo. I’m calling on Congress to do so, if there’s changes in Cuban affairs. That’s why we’re opening normalized relations. An embargo no longer makes sense (kinda like the GOP on this, but I digress).

OUTRAGE over everything Obama’s done and not done has become about as traditional this time of year as eggnog and tree lighting. Except for the tree lighting and eggnog stuff because those things are Christmassy and Christmas isn’t allowed in America anymore.

I’m going to label what Chuck does as “claim jumping.” Trend it, make it a thing.

What he does is deliberately jump from one issue to another, making outrageous, deliberately cock-necked claims as he goes. The only time he’s ever retracted is when:

A.) the evidence is so overwhelmingly against him as in the 24 year old Kirkpatrick satire article.

B.) He’s libeled a private citizen who can’t claim is a public figure and open to such abuse, as in the recent Slut Walk photo misidentification.

Otherwise he will maintain he was right until the bitter end. Booker, Menendez, the MS Senate story, he got all those dead wrong but asserts over and over to this day that he was right about all of them.

As long as he has a micrometer of wiggle room he’ll continue to double down on the most factually inaccurate bullshit, because that’s his business model. He needs to remain controversial and polarizing, and the combination of raw, unsubstantiated assertion and obstinate refusal to accept basic facts when they emerge are his method for making sure the media keeps talking about him.

Aww, my sweet next door neighbor just brought us “thanks for being great neighbors” presents. He gave us a box of doggie cookies for the boys and a tin of pecans (honey roasted, salt roasted, and chocolate-amaretto covered) for me. The odds of the pecans lasting for the Sunday football party are not good. Om nom nom!

112 Kragar  Dec 18, 2014 1:12:43pm

re: #104 Backwoods_Sleuth

That was my mood last night.

We were doing the last of the Christmas shopping, had a cart full of bags, and were loading the car. I was putting a load in the trunk when I saw my wife was pushing the cart away. I asked her, “Did you get everything?” and she said yes.

We get home and she starts cooking dinner, when the kids and her say they can’t find the gift they got for her best friend. We go thru the bags and the car, and its not there.

Back to the car for me. I drive back to the mall. I try checking the carts in the parking lot. Nothing. I hit 3 different lost and founds. Nothing. The store where she bought the gift was about to close, so I duck in and buy a replacement. As I’m heading back out to the car, I make one last check of the carts.

“Hey Buddy? Did you lose a bag?” There is a guy in an SUV parked next to the cart return. His wife had found the bag and he had been sitting in the car waiting to see if anyone turned up. I had missed him the first time by about a minute.

It seemed to me the whole point of Gravity was to experience that “weightless in space” thing in iMax 3D, otherwise it’s lame.

Yep, I tried to watch it at home, in 3D, but the terrible physics were too much, and I had to bail. Cool effects though.

Further proof to me that the only intelligent life on this plant is probably the dolphins. Our species might be *capable* of it, but it takes special effort to achieve it with any consistency.

DJIA up over 400 points on the day, which is the single largest one day gain in three years. Oil slides 4%.

Light, sweet crude for delivery in January CLF5, -3.03% fell $2.36, or 4.2%, to settle at $54.11 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

That was oil’s lowest settlement since May 5, 2009. Futures traded as low as $54.05 and as high as $58.73 a barrel earlier.

Brent oil for February delivery LCOG5, -2.47% declined $1.91, or 3.1%, to finish at $59.27 a barrel on London’s ICE Futures exchange. That was Brent’s lowest settle value since May 19, 2009.

Europe and the rest of the world is shifting money into US stocks - a safety move. Oil prices dropping is part of the reason. The Fed statement is also pushing things as well.

I wonder what Sheldon Adelson is thinking now? “I spent how much on Romney and the Black guy just delivered for me…and he hasn’t cost me anything over the last 6 years? Hmmm. Hello Rence, go fuck yourself!”

Sheldon Adelson is 81 years old. He’s probably thinking “I can remember when Black people were agricultural equipment.”

The text on that menorah’s candles reads (in Hebrew and in Arabic): “Education”, “Human Dignity”, “Equality”, and “Friendship.”
Seems like there’s something written on the middle one as well, but the lighting and angle make it impossible to identify the letters..
