Chuck Todd Has a New ‘Meet the Press’ Panelist: Breitbart “News” Crackpot John Nolte

MSNBC

If you’ve followed his career as a flame-throwing right wing demagogue and one of the most unhinged writers at Breitbart “News,” it’s an unpleasant surprise to see John Nolte now being invited by Chuck Todd to sit on the panel of Meet the Press.

He may not sound too crazed in this short clip, but…

The same John Nolte that has talked about shooting teachers. Yeah way to go Chuck Todd. That’s exactly the kind of guy I want to hear blaming protesters for the shooting in Brooklyn yesterday. Fucking hypocrites.

Yeah but there’s no inciting violence there at all but being upset at the non indictment in the Garner case is. This is classic right wing double standard bullshit where the cheerleaders of the thugs at Bundy Ranch who actually did threaten law enforcement are considered patriots and people protesting the lack of an indictment in the death of an unarmed man are akin to ISIS.

His radio show was huge when he was on CNN. He eventually go so fringie that even Fox showed him the door.

Edit - By May 2008, it had reached over 280 terrestrial stations as well as XM Satellite. It was ranked 4th in the nation with over six and a half million listeners.

Stop Resisting: How to Get Arrested at an Eric Garner Protest

“…We were directly behind the people getting pushed down the sidewalk block, so we physically could not walk faster. A black cop tried to warn me of what lay ahead if I stayed.

To be honest, I felt a sense of security momentarily. I followed a direct order from a police officer to follow him, and we were in constant motion and not blocking the street. That sense of security dramatically disappeared when one of the higher-up officers saw I was recording. He pointed at me directly out of the crowd, and started shouting “GRAB HIM! He seems to be too uncritical and prone to conclusion-jumping for an “intelligence expert”. Like in that story about the Spiegel document about the wiretapping of Merkel being “fake”. It’s half bad that an expert swallowed it in the first place (I’m pretty sure he knows German so he could have checked out the original news items). Worse was that he then built a grand theory about how FSB forged this document and put it in Snowden’s database (though Spiegel did not claim the doc came from Snowden in the first place; it likely came from a second, unknown leaker), so that stupid/malicious journos would use it. Except his very first assumption was built on sand…

Obama actually co-opted the right wing view on this - he said it was a bad idea to cave in to intimidation, which would normally be the default wingnut position. So they got stuck in their own rhetoric and had to invent some idiotic overblown deliberate misconception about Obama’s statement, and say he was “attacking Sony.”

A Startling Admission By The Ferguson Prosecutor Could Restart The Case Against Darren Wilson

thinkprogress.org

“Even before Friday’s interview, many legal experts were highly critical McCulloch’s use of the grand jury. Marjorie Cohn, a professor at Thomas Jefferson School of Law, said she believed McCulloch “did not want an indictment” of Darren Wilson and turned the grand jury process on its head, acting as an advocate for the defense.

“Mae Quinn, a law professor at Washington University School Of Law, told ThinkProgress that the unusual decision to present testimony he believed to be false to the grand jury — along with other atypical aspects of the prosecutor’s conduct in the Wilson case — could be an issue. “In terms of personal or professional interest playing a role in the grand jury process, I am struck by the double-bind we keep hearing about. That is, the county prosecutor feeling unable to simply present Darren Wilson’s case like any other without concern for perceived relationships with local law enforcement and others - and then making strategic decisions not singularly focused on representing the county,” Quinn said.

“If Maura McShane, the Presiding Judge of the 21st Circuit, agrees with this assessment, she could appoint a new prosecutor and effectively restart the case against Darren Wilson.” More

Come on, Judge McShane. Do the right thing.

Well here’s the crazy thing. My grandmother, person in question here actually is fairly liberal, more so economically than socially anyhow but she’s got a serious prejudice when it comes to minorities and the police. She brought up that her godfather was a police officer killed by an African American man so I think that’s colored her prejudice. The thing is. I can handle disagreement and I am even a little sympathetic since she is old obviously but man I just really resent my words which suggested nothing like getting rid of the police to be a suggestion that policing itself needs to be abolished. I probably just need a breather but it just rubs me the wrong way ya know and honestly it bugs me how she thinks she understands the legal system because she watches Judge Judy when that show and other shows like it make a complete mockery of how law actually works.

My family is actually pretty close to what I am ideologically but as I got at, the one thing my grandmother normally left of center gets pretty right wing about is minorities and police. I mean I can handle the disagreement. It’s going to happen but when someone takes my words that there’s some problems with police departments to mean I favor outright abolishment of the police, that just bothers me. I also tried pointing out that officers being killed in the line of duty have been dropping for years now and NYC is safer than it’s been in a while too. But she and I guess it’s in part because she’s old hears the sound clips on the news and takes it to be the reality. For example, she didn’t believe that whites actually have a higher arrest rate. And good luck to me even trying to point out that they got James Holmes alive but had to kill Eric Garner.

I know. It’s like pulling teeth. It’s just so hard not to get angry on my end because I can’t point out that I think it’s shameful that Officer Wilson, the officers in Garner’s death, and others weren’t even charged without hearing “Well you know police have stressful jobs and the person(Brown, Rice, Garner, etc) was doing something wrong.” I actually think it’s somewhat insulting to the police’s intelligence to suggest that they should just be ready to shoot to kill even if they don’t know the person is armed or not.

176 HappyWarrior  Dec 21, 2014 6:06:55pm

I mean yes the police do have a stressful job, one I should emphasize I could never do myself but you know what? I still expect accountability. I’ll never be a Congressman, Governor, or President but I expect those elected officials to uphold the principles of the Constitution. I expect them to follow the law. Just because someone has a stressful or a job that could result in their own death doesn’t mean they should get a pass. “Oh he has a stressful job.” Okay, fine but that doesn’t excuse shooting someone unarmed or strangling an unarmed morbidly obese man or shooting a 12 year old kid without even attempting to find out the situation and resolve it peacefully.

And it’s the same WRT the Military - one is required to support any action any member of the military may take, or “You hate the troops!”. You can’t hold them to any standard of civilized behavior, or you hear “They put their asses on the line for you!”

Then again, these same folks also require the same unthinking allegiance to whatever the government of Israel does.

It just grows so tiresome.

re: #175 HappyWarrior

I don’t think it’s a matter of intelligence so much as a matter of cowardice. As I kept saying regarding the issue of our torture, we are a nation of cowards who have been convinced that our cowardice is bravery.

I think that applies just as much to the culture of cops as it does to our torture culture. THe need to the best weaponry right then, right now, the impulse to shoot first, ask questions later, and the need to circle wagons as if one policeman who made a dumb mistake is held accountable, the entire idea of police somehow collapse. It’s institutionalized cowardice dressed up as macho-ass bravery.

179 HappyWarrior  Dec 21, 2014 6:08:26pm

I frankly think the police who think the police shouldn’t be held accountable do the police a much greater disservice than the critics do. The critics want the police to actually do their jobs. The police can do no wrong types like Peter King and Rudy Giuliani think “Oh, they’re cops, let em do whatever they want.”

I’d point out that we not only fail to punish excess violence way too often but we also critically fail to reward the guys that pull it off peacefully despite the circumstances.

re: #180 Blind Frog Belly White

It’s a stressful job, so they get a license to kill over misdemeanors?

Yeah….. Seriously I hear “Oh you know Darren Wilson has to do so and so now.” Yeah well here’s the thing. Darren Wilson is ALIVE. Darren Wilson is newly married. Darren Wilson will probably be a father soon. Darren Wilson will have good days and bad days. Darren Wilson will live while Michael Brown is dead. It’s the same thing I felt about Treyvon Martin. All these attempts to put poor George Zimmerman on the pity stoop while our fucked up media made the victim into a villain and the perp into a tragic hero done wrong.

It isn’t even just that we fail to punish excess violence, but that we reward it outright, while the guys who pull it off without guns blazing are somehow worse off, somehow cowards, somehow people who make police look bad by ‘accommodating crooks’.

I’d ask him to find a single person who feels that the guy who killed the two officers last night that shouldn’t have been hypothetically prosecuted. This is the frustrating thing. White cops get killed and we hear from people like your BiL “Oh where are Obama/Sharpton/Holder/Boogeyman on this?”Well, in those cases, you not only see them prosecuted but you see a very zealous prosecution that often ends up with the convicted on death row. In the case of Brown and Garner, we can’t even get indictments from prosecutors who have shown apathy in getting these cases even brought to a jury trial. So when hashtag blacklivesmatter is posted, it is an indictment of that. It’s an indictment on how if a Ferguson officer had been killed that Robert McCulloch would probably pursue the death penalty for his killer while for Michael Brown, McCulloch willingly knew he had grand jury witnesses that lied but he let them testify anyhow.

Your brother-in-law will never admit it out loud, but off the top of his head he could name half a dozen officers who he *knows* do the department no credit. Officers who he mutters under his breath that he hopes he NEVER has to work a call with. Officers who in any all-cop group, he would absolutely disparage as bad at their jobs and they should be doing something else for a living. He can NAME these officers. But he won’t.

re: #180 Blind Frog Belly White

The fact is, the police too often bring criticism on themselves. I don’t think people inherently hate the cops (well, maybe some do, such as criminals who see them as their nemesis) but most people can respect the jobs others in public service do, if it’s done with the right training and attitude. Unfortunately, that isn’t always the case, as I’ve seen in my lifetime, when a HS education (or even less earlier in the last century) was the only requirement to join “the force” and the cop culture was passed down from the “old guard” many times with horrible consequences. One would hope that in the 21st century, that wouldn’t be the case, but as someone earlier stated, it’s become almost like a cult, as has the military, to some degree. A lot of people who are hired as police are vets and those are not 2 occupations that deal with the same people, locales and situations.

When you treat other human beings as something less than human, though, it colors everything you do and infects the entire justice system when there is still rot at the bottom.

You know here’s the thing. We read the comments from Police One. We see videos like the one man in St. Paul. We read about police departments including high ups like sheriffs being revealed to have KKK members in their ranks or read the comments made by the one cop that the abolishment of slavery was in his words the worst to happen. And honestly it just jades you some. Now, I would never go into a situation hostile with the police but I’ve never experienced the assumption of wrong doing by the police that many minorities have over the years. That’s my white privilege.

Draaaag me back with your comment whydon’tcha?

Not only that, the Muslims have a lot of power in some of the prisons on the East Coast—or at least that’s what I heard back when I first moved up here—so a lot of the conversions aren’t real, they’re just for protection.

There was one mosque in Brooklyn that sort of specialized in guys coming out of prison—i.e. trying to help them integrate back into society, get jobs, etc. It basically served as a kind of halfway house.

Anyway, one day I was there early in the morning and I heard the “brothers” warning this one guy that if they caught him (doing whatever it was he’d done) again, that they’d personally throw him out the (2nd story) window. I didn’t doubt it for a moment.

She only thinks that because Tom Sowell told her that and Tom Sowell is black so therefore it’s unpossible for him to have any shallow hyperbolic opinions about slavery and welfare. Really, the whole slavery = welfare thing is really the most offensive thing. No one’s forcing anyone to go on welfare. Slavery OTOH…… But what does one expect from a moronic conservative who probably thinks all their success in their life is due to them and them alone.

True that’s a good point. I guess my point is no one is going on welfare at the threat if they don’t know, their family will be murdered. And I agree with your point that if employers like Wal-Mart were willing to pay better that there wouldn’t be an as big need for it but then again conservatives like our “friend” here oppose reasonable wages for workers too.

Well, if we can fight a war against substances and a war against a tactic then we must be able to fight one lousy corporation. We will have to double defense spending to assure victory though.

Same in Chicago —never once seen a gangsta with Tommy Gun.

None now remain in criminal hands, of course. Though it interesting to note that the last gang-held Thompson SMG in Chicago was not confiscated by the Chicago Police until the early 1990’s. To my knowledge, they still hold onto it, not wishing to destroy one of the remaining specimens of a weapon that defined Chicago in a number of ways.

Had some experience with similar symptoms with a non-diabetic adult member of my family.

Until a toe changed color, the medical focus was on neurological or lower spinal issues. A visit to a vascular surgeon changed that.

Turned out to be blocked blood flow to one leg, with flow to the other restricted.

In the Vail area, anywhere between 30 and 45 inch base depending on the location and slope aspect, sometimes more on the windloaded slopes. Over 100 inches have been recorded since Halloween at Vail’s official snow stake.

Records from 10 public universities in Virginia show that only one has not expelled a student for sexual assault since 2009. Sixteen students combined were expelled from nine schools over varying periods ranging from 2009 to this year. George Mason expelled four and James Madison, three. Christopher Newport and Radford expelled two. Five others schools expelled one each. The University of Virginia expelled none. From 1998 to the beginning of the fall semester, UVa expelled 183 students for honor code violations but not one for sexual assault, according to university records. The Daily Progress requested the number of suspensions and expulsions over a three-year period from a dozen other public universities and received data from all but three — Virginia State, Norfolk State and Old Dominion. While the time periods, terms universities used and extent of information they provided made direct comparison difficult, the distinction between UVa and its counterparts was clear.

Good morning Lizards.

Quiet time for a bit sitting by the wood stove. Cold outside and still about 1” of old snow on the ground. The shed cats look like little Eskimos with their thick layers of fur. A few deer in the woods, and relays of chickadees visiting the feeder.

The venison chili turned out well. Spicy, but not that hot, since the others here have less chile pepper heat tolerance than me. (I just add a dash of hot sauce to my bowl.)

Lots of cookies around since we made both butter cookies and gingerbread yesterday. My niece’s set of Star Wars gingerbread cutters were opened yesterday as a belated birthday present rather than a Christmas present so that they could be used. This led eventually to “that’s no moon, it’s a cookie!”

NYT Editorial Board calls for prosecution of torturers and those who enabled them.

The question everyone will want answered, of course, is: Who should be held accountable? That will depend on what an investigation finds, and as hard as it is to imagine Mr. Obama having the political courage to order a new investigation, it is harder to imagine a criminal probe of the actions of a former president.

But any credible investigation should include former Vice President Dick Cheney; Mr. Cheney’s chief of staff, David Addington; the former C.I.A. director George Tenet; and John Yoo and Jay Bybee, the Office of Legal Counsel lawyers who drafted what became known as the torture memos. There are many more names that could be considered, including Jose Rodriguez Jr., the C.I.A. official who ordered the destruction of the videotapes; the psychologists who devised the torture regimen; and the C.I.A. employees who carried out that regimen.

I can’t wait to hear the howling this is going to set off.

I received this in my inbox this morning, an invitation from the American Enterprise Institute, a conservative think tank in DC, to attend a book discussion:

Many Americans still view labor unions as they were in America’s industrial heyday. But in 21st-century America, labor unions are strongest in a sector in which they were once practically absent: government. The federal, state, and local governments have among the highest unionization rates of any sector of employment, and public-sector unions are a powerful political force in practically every state.

In “Government Against Itself: Public Union Power and Its Consequences” (Oxford University Press, 2015), Daniel DiSalvo argues that public-sector unions have profited from generous compensation packages while workers in the private sector have struggled with stagnant wages, disappearing benefits, and rising retirement ages. Attempts to rein in the unions, as in Wisconsin and New Jersey, have met massive resistance.

Private sector = Stagnant wages, disappearing benefits, and rising retirement ages.

The conservative goal is not yet complete as long as public sector unions exist.

TARP, the much maligned program that included the auto and big bank bailout, quietly ended on Friday when the US government sold off its final remaining stake in Ally Capital (which was formerly GMAC).

The program ended up making $15.3 billion for taxpayers. That’s even though the auto-portion of the bailout sunk about $9 billion in costs (the cost of doing nothing would have been up to $100 billion in a direct and indirect hit to jobs, businesses, and related fields from the shuttering of auto plants and businesses across the nation).

That’s not a typo. It didn’t cost the government anything. It made money to bail out the banks and auto industry. Most of the profit from the bailouts came from banks that sought to pay off the loans early, but the overall program saved jobs, the auto industry, and made money for the government overall.

Apparently criticism of police brutality and the need to improve community policing is illegal in the eyes of Hannity and other right wingers. Pushing for insubordination by cops, recall or impeaching the mayor and president over statements they never actually made.

Calling for better policing isn’t anti-cop. It’s what everyone should want or need.

Cops do not get carte blanche to do whatever they want. They should not have the divine right to kill unarmed people and never face a jury trial to determine whether they’ve done something wrong.

What we’re seeing is that right wingers and statists want people to never question cops’ actions, even when they’re bad or worse. Cops kill people with impunity; some cases are truly justified, but there are far too many cases where cops shoot first and the circumstances do not warrant deadly force.

They never gave Tamir Rice a chance. They never gave John Crawford a chance. They killed Eric Garner with an illegal choke hold. No cops have been indicted in any of those cases.

They killed Akai Gurley and no charges filed, even as the NYPD admits that the man did nothing wrong.

Deadly force used in all those cases, and not one indictment has been handed down. That’s not justice. That’s the opposite of justice.

It’s letting bad cops get away with murder. Heck, they never even considered reckless endangerment for the cop who killed Eric Garner, even though the cop used an illegal move under NYPD rules.

That’s also on prosecutors who refuse to indict cops at an alarming rate; prosecutors have to rely on cops to make their cases, so there’s a too cozy relationship there too.

The end result is injustice after injustice heaped on a minority community that continues to suffer indignities and take the blame when someone engages in violence in ways that white communities never do.

Tension in NYC like the 1970’s

New York Police Department Commissioner Bill Bratton said Monday that tensions in the city are echoing those in the 1970s — a fear he expressed only days prior to the ambush killings of two police officers.
“Who would’ve ever thought déjà vu all over again, that we would be back where we were 40-some-odd years ago,” Bratton said in an interview on NBC’s “Today.”

Bratton attributed protests that followed the decisions by separate juries to not indict police officers in the deaths of Brown and Garner as a factor in the subsequent killings of Ramos and Liu.
“… It’s quite apparent, quite obvious, that the targeting of these two police officers was a direct spinoff of this issue of these demonstrations,” the police chief said.

re: #412 Maggie’s Pa

And what’s insane is that crime is at or near historic lows. The murder rate in NYC has never been this low. Ever. The absolute number of homicides in NYC has been near this level in decades.

Yet, the PBA and NYPD are pushing insubordination and claiming that the mayor disrespected them by claiming that his son has to watch out for cops - racial profiling that minorities know to be true - because statistics bears out that very reality.

Calling for improved policing isn’t anti-cop. It’s for improved policing and improved relations between community and law enforcement in a social compact. The NYPD and PBA want to blow up that social compact because they’ve got a social agenda antithetical to the civilian control of law enforcement.

They’ve shown animus to the mayor that is uncalled for and that’s on the NYPD - not the mayor.

The mayor called for the end of stop and frisk. A judge had ruled that stop and frisk was improper as well. Ending it ended a significant component of racial profiling. Interestingly crime rates didn’t rise. They continued to drop.

Curious how that happened.

Yet the PBA still thinks the mayor is against cops.

As for reported claims that the NYPD will now respond to all calls with 2 cop cars, that’s a blatant call by the PBA to pad cases and workload so as to justify future budgets and personnel. It wont necessarily improve public safety or the safety of law enforcement either.

We’re still trying to learn details about the killer, including how he got the gun that killed the two officers. But from what we know, he was a hardened criminal with a lengthy rap sheet who had animus with cops long before he carried out his assassination of the two officers in Brooklyn.

The PBA and other right wingers are quick to blame the WH, the President, the US AG, Mayor DeBlasio and “progressives” for setting up the tone of conversation allowing or causing the assassination, yet there’s no repudiation of right wingers statements that are actually incendiary and where sovereign citizens murdered Nevada law enforcement officers after having spent time at the Bundy Ranch supporting anti-law enforcement activities there and elsewhere.

Demanding equal justice under the law is not anti-cop. It’s justice for all.

Empathy. It’s what’s lacking with the GOP and right wing. They show a sociopathic lack of it.

They think that cutting taxes for the wealthy is going to improve the lives of people barely making ends meet. They impose hardships on those who make minimum wage that hasn’t kept up with the cost of living and oppose common sense access to health insurance. They claim it’s because of the cost to business and that government is too large. Yet they simultaneous demand that women undergo needless procedures and waste time jumping through hoops to get abortions at tremendous cost to the women, and burden a health care system that sees far too much needless testing done.

They demand drug testing and means testing to get welfare, even though drug use isn’t any greater for those on welfare than in suburban white neighborhoods.

It’s a lack of empathy. And it’s everywhere you look when the GOP issues a position statement.

Immigration? No empathy and outright hostility to figuring out a path to citizenship for people already here (or have overstayed visas, etc.)

There’s no shows or movies that deal with a steelworkers union or a teacher’s union being the good guys who beat a lot of “bad guys” up and save the day. But we’ve had an endless stream of cop shows, movies, books, and so forth where the cop is never in the wrong, the bad guy is always as guilty as sin, and the police union is there to stand up for good cops.

Both were white.

I’m really sensing a trend here. Would be nice if all law enforcement were required to maintain stats on all officer involved shootings, statistics about justification, race of those involved, etc.

It would really benefit everyone to know what law enforcement is doing, but it seems transparency is not on the minds of those who want to let the cops keep doing what they’ve been doing all along.

I always loved the stock setup - strings-cellos-flutes.

That was one temperamental instrument, though. The only instrument that rivals the Mellotron’s combination of the musical and mechanical is the pedal steel guitar.

Worse actually. Her nausea is making it difficult to drink her protein shake so I’m giving her Gravol and jello.

I’m sure a lot of it is psychological at this point, she’s been on nothing but protein shake for more than 3 weeks now. However, the minute her temp rises above 38C she’s heading to the hospital. I don’t want her suffering sepsis again.

I got to see two of the bands most known for using them. King Crimson on the Starless and Bible Black tour and Genesis when they first came to America on Selling England by the Pound tour.

Nothing as haunting as a Mellotron.

I imagine you needed one engineer just to keep it working on tour. Hammond Organs were bad enough on the road…the Mellotron was another thing all together.

I became friends with another prog band of that era, a band called Gentle Giant. Like every other band of that genre, they carried a massive keyboard rig, played by a classically-trained musician named Kerry Minnear.

In addition to the Mellotron itself, they also carried two extra tape racks because they were notoriously fragile and needed constant adjustment and tweaking.

And besides the mechanical troubles, many people didn’t realize that you had to play it a certain way - the racks only held 8 seconds of tape for each note, so you had to release the key you were holding down and let gravity reset the tape for that note, or you’d run out of note! And there was always the chance that when the tape reset it could just snap.

Minnear always said ‘I love the sound of it, but I hate playing it.’

Saw the Moody Blues in San Antonio back in 1970 or so. They made great use of the Mellotron. One of the best shows ever. After playing for two hours they all sat down on the edge of the stage, talked with fans and signed autographs.

…let’s commend my man Chuck Todd for being so broad-minded that his mind apparently has thinned out entirely and disappeared.

On Sunday, the caretaker of journalism’s Overlook Hotel invited John Nolte, of Breitbart’s Mausoleum For The Otherwise Unemployable, to join him and Lloyd The Bartender for some holiday cheer. (This is of a piece with the late St. Tim Russert’s having mainstreamed Matt Drudge during the Lewinsky circus.)

You may recall that, when he took the gig, my man Chuck Todd did an extended interview with the denizens of the mausoleum. He later explained this deep spelunk into the dark, dank caves of his profession by explaining that his extended slumming was meant to rebuild “trust” in the venerable franchise he’d been handed, “trust” in this case being defined as making sure incompetent slander merchants have a hearing, too.

They were perhaps my favorite prog band - all five members also sang and played multiple instruments, and they incorporated everything from blues to madrigal singing into their stuff.

Fun fact: Their lead singer, a guy named Derek Shulman, became head of A&R at Polygram and signed Bon Jovi - which I find hilarious and still don’t hold against him.

And his brother Ray became a record producer, responsible for the first Sugarcubes album.

Seems like there’s a bit of a chasm between the police chief and the district attorney:

Milwaukee Police Chief Edward Flynn announced the firing of Manney on Oct. 15. He said Manney had acted without malice but that he had failed to follow police policies when addressing mentally ill people.

“It’s very, very hard to charge a police officer with homicide if he does exactly what he is trained to do,” Chisholm (the DA) said.

rawstory.com

And of course:

The Milwaukee Police Association condemned Manney’s firing as a political move, and members voted no confidence in Flynn soon after the firing.

Manney has appealed his firing and applied for disability, saying the shootings in Milwaukee and Ferguson have cost him sleep and made it difficult for him to think clearly. He also has said he suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder.

That’s a bit of creative reinterpretation on Weissman’s part. The Mishna in bSanh. 37a applies only to Jewish lives:

FOR THIS REASON WAS MAN CREATED ALONE, TO TEACH THEE THAT WHOSOEVER DESTROYS A SINGLE SOUL OF ISRAEL, SCRIPTURE IMPUTES [GUILT] TO HIM AS THOUGH HE HAD DESTROYED A COMPLETE WORLD; AND WHOSOEVER PRESERVES A SINGLE SOUL OF ISRAEL, SCRIPTURE ASCRIBES [MERIT] TO HIM AS THOUGH HE HAD PRESERVED A COMPLETE WORLD.

Granted, there is a more universalistic formula in Yerushalmi, but he quotes from Bavli…
