North Korea: “Obama Is Like a Monkey in a Tropical Forest”

International racism
World • Views: 35,947

Kim Jong Un is furious tonight. So furious he sounds like a Tea Party leader.

“Obama always goes reckless in words and deeds like a monkey in a tropical forest,” an unidentified spokesman at the commission’s Policy Department said in a statement carried by the official Korean Central News Agency.

He also accused Washington for intermittent outages of North Korea websites this week, after the U.S. had promised to respond to the Sony hack.

There was no immediate reaction from the White House on Saturday.

According to the North Korea commission’s spokesman, “the U.S., a big country, started disturbing the Internet operation of major media of the DPRK, not knowing shame like children playing a tag.”

I blame the expanding economy, low energy prices, and Obama.

My daughter was secure in the knowledge that if I tried to sneak up on her while she was on the computer, my shadow would give me away.

She never expected me to low crawl. Her shriek was most satisfactory, especially as she was chatting to her friends on Skype at the time.

Christmas was weird. The bus broke down, leaving us stranded for an hour and a half at work. Which turned into… well, no idea if the bus is fixed, but 8 hours in a coworker gave me a ride home.

On the plus side, I got 2 hours of OT and the nice girl who works nights gave me a hand knitted scarf and hat for Christmas.

Thanks! I haven’t been on twitter much lately, so I may have missed some of CCJ’s latest pronouncements of greatness.

Internet access here is not bad, except for accessing those sites the censors block, like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and most of Google’s services. For those, I have to use a VPN, which tends to slow down access and occasionally fails. It’s free, so I’m not complaining.

I should add that I live on a university campus, so our Internet bandwidth is a mite better than most residential users have.

38 Dr Lizardo  Dec 27, 2014 3:24:06am

Meanwhile, here in Europe, Swedish wingnuts have just found themselves outmanuevered.

Sweden’s government has scrapped plans to run a snap election in 2015 after crisis talks between Prime Minister Stefan Löfven and the Alliance parties, which has been dubbed the ‘December agreement.’

“We who are here are prepared to take responsibility for how Sweden is to be governed. Constructive talks have taken place in the last few days,” Löfven told reporters at a 10:30 press conference held in Stockholm.

He added that the arrangement has been called the ‘December agreement’ and its goal is to ensure that a minority government can govern.

thelocal.se

What this does, basically, is leave the SD (Swedish Democrats), a far-right political party that polled at 13% in the recent elections, politically isolated. The SD had been hoping to gain further parliamentary seats in the (now-canceled) 2015 elections - and it looks like that’s just not gonna happen.

I can only imagine that the Swedish wingnuts are crying in their akvavit right about now. Heh.

And Moses (raised as an Egyptian prince) probably was more like a swarthy 5’6”, (probably “tall” for the time), not the 6’ tall pale Bale; neither was Ramses anything like the 5’11” Edgerton (his mummy reportedly measures about 5’7”,—but he was royalty and probably ate very well). If Moses himself escaped Egypt after supposedly killing a “slavemaster”, he was also an escaped felon—pretty ironic for the guy considered the “lawgiver” of the time.

Mythology generally elaborates every aspect of these figures which supports the “belief” that develops over milennia. I find it odd that so little is really known about such Bronze Age figures and so much is taken as “truth”.

But today, as throughout history, we suffer the result of these “beliefs” in ways that we should all condemn.

One of things that bothers me is the lack of basic, basic education, like the difference between the genres of history, science, scripture and fiction.

Films are meant to be entertainment and nothing more. If they closely resemble documented history, it can be fun, but they are not compelled to.

45 Maggie's Pa  Dec 27, 2014 4:59:16am

This article makes a lot of assumptions for the 2016 elections, can you find them all?

In 2016, however, the Democrats foresee more favorable conditions. Not only is voter turnout expected to be much higher, but the economy will likely have had two more years to improve following the Great Recession.
On top of that, the demise of centrist Democrats in purple districts in 2014 means the party won’t be forced to play defense in the most contested races in the next cycle. And the Democrats are also hoping a strong presidential candidate - someone like presumptive contender Hillary Clinton - will excite the party’s base and provide candidates with lengthy coattails.
“In a presidential election with a Democratic nominee winning 53, 54 percent of the vote nationally - which I think is quite plausible with Hillary - she’s going to outperform that in the purple districts and create some real updraft,” said one former Democratic lawmaker.

Not surprising, though, that in this country, people would give up a decent basic education to celebrity worship their favorite popular culture figures and try to emulate them in style, attitude, buying products with their names on them, etc. There is something a bit pathological about people who can’t, or refuse, to open their own selves up to the possibilities in life with education but simply consume what they can from others.

Even I was over Elvis Presley in about 6 mos, by the time I turned 16, and that was about 1957. This simple, ordinary guy could sing a little (appropriating a lot of Black music of the time), threw a little sexiness into his act, and made records, for chrissakes, and he himself appeared to be eaten up by fame and fortune.

I wasn’t applying blame for that specific incident, speaking to the defensive posture of authorities and authoritarians by blaming black dudes for the violence and purported violent reactions.

But since you opened that door, why did that black dude shoot the two cops (their ethnicity had no bearing on their targeting)? Just because he was crazy, a purely evil criminal?

I edited, as I meant to say ‘young black men being killed’ in my statement.

I have a low tolerance to remove context and nuance from a very complex discussion, especially one so serious. While there is obviously attempts to misplace blame for political means, sometimes there are other attempts to manage the narrative, in this case completely compartmentalize the incident as the actions of a crazy person so that they themselves only, with no other outside influence, committed the heinous act. That works for Jared Loughner, but not this time.

Ismaayil Brinsley was a heinous criminal who committed a heinous crime, but there is no evidence that he is clinically insane or schizophrenic, and he clearly stated the heinous murders were in retaliation for the deaths of black men at the hands of police.

Quite specifically, not because Obama or Sharpton (or any other black man making statements) encouraged him.

If you think the of the shooter as mentally deranged, you could say the lack of adequate funding/attention to mental health in this country. If you wonder how the shooter got a gun, you could point to the concerted effort to block reasonable gun regulation. If you look at the victims, you would be hard pressed to say the shooter targeted and ‘Asian’ and ‘Latino’, he targeted ‘NYPD’. All of that is more related to the ‘white power structure’ in this country than it is to ‘black people are the real racists’ in that piece of tripe masquerading as an article.

Or do *you* consider De Blasio, Sharpton, Obama, and Holder more responsible for race relations than the white majority population of this country?

Not on mine. Link?

But even if it were true, the convergence of evidence still doesn’t go anywhere.

1. The videos show:
a) Martin raising his hand towards the cop (compatible with the gun, needs stretching to fit with anything else);
b) the policeman reacting in panic, shooting and running away.

2. The gun was found in that same exact place, and, twitter CTs notwithstanding, there is no evidence that it was planted.

3. Martin faced gun- and aggression-related charges:

three assaults, an armed robbery, unlawful use of a weapon, armed criminal action and stealing.

So there are these three facts together, and no contrary evidence.

See, you need to stretch facts to fit with this CT. A sudden forward hand movement and the cop’s reaction are more compatible with a gun.
In order for it to be a cell phone he must have already been holding it in his hand, in fact it would take a few seconds to turn the camera on (so the cop would have seen it and wouldn’t have reacted in this way).

Not much of a stretch. Martin had a cell phone. It is entirely plausible that he turned on video and aimed it at the officer. Watching the incident unfold, that seems very plausible.

After watching a lot of video, it’s pretty conclusive Martin had a cell phone or iPhone in his hand before the incident. There’s also clearer video of him with earbuds in his hears.

Depending on how you set up your apps, you can start a camera pretty fast. It’s also an assumption that the cop was watching Martin the entire time and would have seen the cell/iPhone brought out and started: there were other subjects there he might have been watching.

The possibilities here are not endless and based on nothing: they are based on what little evidence we have. You believe ‘the’ gun was found and that’s it.

I’m more skeptical, so we shall see.

As before, certain pieces of information are released, but not all. Only certain segments of video purported to show proof are released, not the entire video. And the released video isn’t very conclusive.

As before, certain pieces of information are released, but not all. Only certain segments of video purported to show proof are released, not the entire video. And the released video isn’t very conclusive.

Because a squall of endless speculation only helps the defense in the long run. They do not want anything conclusive.

If he has an iPhone, you can get your camera on in less than a second.

Which is still enough time to recognize that it’s not a gun, while you’re taking it out of the pocket and turning the camera on.

Here is the video:

Second Angle - Berkeley Officer-Involved shooting

The time between he raises his hand and is shot is a couple of seconds (he did catch the cop unaware), but it is enough to recognize whether it’s an phone or a gun. Moreover, he seems to have some light which is directed down at the road, not at the cop, which could his phone in his other hand.

Then why even release anything? What video was released didn’t prove anything, if even supported a defense.

Pretty amateurish.

If the World Government is attempting to control us, and this is the World Government flexing their will upon us meek citizens, they’re not doing a very good job of it.

The possibilities here are not endless and based on nothing: they are based on what little evidence we have. You believe ‘the’ gun was found and that’s it.

Not true. The conclusion is based on the convergence of evidence, of which the found gun is one piece. There is no evidence whatsoever for any alternative hypothesis. When and if there is such evidence, I’ll revise my conclusion.

I don’t care about angles. I don’t want to see replays of killings, justified or otherwise. I don’t have a problem with people posting them, but I can’t and won’t watch them. I’ll let forensic experts analyze the video and rationalize the actions on it. Everything is filmed these days, it seems. The police tend to forget they volunteered, they signed up, trained, graduated, now they take the calls to go to the bad guys or (far more often) go investigate in the aftermath.

That is not as dangerous as walking in on a robbery, getting robbed, shot, raped or beat down by some crew of violent felons. They get the gun I’m not allowed out and about. They have backup, I don’t. They have SWAT and helicopters and now a few drones. I am not allowed any of that. Their pepper spray/mace product is ten times stronger than what I’m allowed. I can call them, maybe if i’m able. Then I wait. Hanging by a circumstantial thread.

I have deep sympathy for anyone who is attacked, especially fatalities. Those diminished families break a heart. First responders do earn a special respect. Police, Firefighters, rescue squads for mountains and of course the snow…

For those burned out or just angry cops who think they are so special as to be allowed to abuse the rest of us or ignore oversight all I have to say is a hearty Fuck You.

Well they do want money to go to the poor. They just want veto power over who that money goes to and they want to decide how its spent. And if the money was funneled to the poor through churches and religious organizations, thus allowing them even more power to discriminate, even better.

Kind of off the subject but I thought I’d share this Christmas gift.

My late father’s Montblanc pens

My mom gave this to me for Christmas. I recognized them immediately and began crying.

There’s a funny story about these pens. My dad was a poor Oklahoma farmboy who did good in the post-WWII economy. But he had no idea how much some things cost. When his boss gave him those pens, my dad threw them in a drawer or something, just thought it was “a gift, meh.” A few months later, his boss asked him about the pens. It was at that point my dad did some checking and realized he’d been given a very nice gift. And then he had to find where he’d put the pens and make sure they were in evidence at work.

re: #162 Prof. Backpfeifengesicht, PhD

In order for it to be a cell phone he must have already been holding it in his hand, in fact it would take a few seconds to turn the camera on (so the cop would have seen it and wouldn’t have reacted in this way).

It is also possible that none of this happened and we’re being manipulated by the World Government. See, pure possibilities are endless. That’s why facts are established based on evidence-based probabilities, not on mere possibilities.

Yes, except you missed one point. There is no Big Brother. There is, however, Big Mama. She has taken up residence at the UN and is hell bent on bitch-slapping those who cannot seem to grow-up. Many view her tactics as tyrannical, but in reality they simply resent being treated like the children they are.

Big Mama don’t take no shit. If you can’t play nice, she will take away your toys. (guns)

She is tired of of the kids killing each other, hurting each other and making life nearly impossible for many of us. She wants her children fed, clothed and educated. She wants them to grow up in a clean and balanced environment and sleep soundly in safe beds each night.

When they are of the age of majority, She doesn’t give a damn who they sleep with, as long as it is consensual and precautions are taken to prevent pregnancy and disease.

She doesn’t give a damn who they worship, as long as that worship doesn’t go against her rules. Anyone telling you that god wants you to do harm to another needs to be reported to Big Mama, or there will be hell to pay. Anyone imposing their belief system on you also needs to be reported.

Mama does have access to the big guns and the big money. She’d like to melt down the guns, but knows that isn’t going to happen anytime soon. She’d like to spend the money on education and trips to Disney World for everyone, but that also doesn’t seem to be going to happen anytime soon.

No, she doesn’t want you tied to your apron strings. She would just like to be able to trust that once those strings are cut, you aren’t going to try to set-up your own feudal kingdom, enslave others or cause harm to others for your own petty need to feel powerful or important.

. . I could go on and on and on, but you get the drift.

Sometimes I think the RWWhackos are a bunch of grown children, still resentful because their Mom wouldn’t let them have another bowl of ice cream.

Well, ask the wingnuts about Rome and free bread.

Then remind them that in the old world, Judiasm did not separate Church and State. So, if the Church gave alms, it was also the State doing so.

Now, it’s a matter of economics and discrimination. The State is in the best position to administer entitlements and has the best record on not discriminating.

Which, is of course, what that RWNJ’s want—the right to impose their morality on alms giving. As I said yesterday:

Morality as nothing to do with the law.

Wonder why Russia is repeating history?

For Russia, 2014 was marked by several dates that nobody wants to remember. December saw 20 years since the first war in Chechnya. In August, 15 years had passed since the start of the Second Chechen War. And finally, September marked 10 years since the Beslan hostage crisis.

State-owned media outlets did not report on any of these stories. On the anniversary of the Beslan school siege in which insurgents held more than 1,200 hostages and that ended in the deaths of 385 people, including 186 children, only a crowd of mostly local residents turned out for the commemoration.

Despite the scale of the suffering, state-controlled television maintained complete silence on the subject. Can you imagine a media blackout on a major anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attack, with only close relatives of the victims gathering for memorial services?

This is profoundly personal for me. I was at the White House the other day, and the president of the United States turned to me, and he met Dante a few months ago, and he said that Dante reminded him of what he looked like as a teenager. And he said, I know you see this crisis through a very personal lens. I said to him I did. Because Chirlane and I have had to talk to Dante for years, about the dangers he may face. A good young man, a law-abiding young man, who would never think to do anything wrong, and yet, because of a history that still hangs over us, the dangers he may face—we’ve had to literally train him, as families have all over this city for decades, in how to take special care in any encounter he has with the police officers who are there to protect him.

If you ask me (and nobody does!) that argument is just a tool to excuse the police acts and the real hatred for people of color.

De Blasio is just a crucible to channel the hate for the real target…black people that are causing all these problems for the police. If ‘they’ just didn’t act up all the time, then the police wouldn’t be getting so frustrated and going to far. ‘They’ bring it all on themselves and De Blasio is excusing it and blaming the police.

De Blasio might just as well be a Black man. Right now he is a stand in. The police are turning their backs on people of color and those that are in support. They are turning their backs on all of us.
