Famous ESPN sportscaster Stuart Scott passed away today, after a battle with cancer. He’ll be greatly missed.

And this is how the National Review remembers Scott:

As I write this an hour later, the tweet has still not been deleted.

UPDATE at 1/4/15 3:26:34 pm by Charles Johnson

Approximately four hours later, the tweet is now gone with no explanation or apology.

Still there.

2 HappyWarrior  Jan 4, 2015 11:19:58am

First off, sad to hear about Stu’s passing. 49 is way too young and thoughts go out to his friends and family, and I appreciated him on Sportscenter over the years but also on the I Love the 80’s and 90’s on VH1 as well. HOw the hell does not only NRO get this wrong but still not realize it’s a fuck up an hour later?

Honestly I don’t know. NRO’s credibility is close to Stormfront’s with me though. Perhaps even lower since Stormfront doesn’t try to hide behind the “intellectual conservative” label. They know what they are and aren’t afraid to share it.

Speaking of non-journalism, here’s GG on The Intercept’s non-revenue:

Anyone who suggests we’re motivated by “click bait” is extremely misinformed. Why would we possibly be motivated by that? Everything about the Intercept is structured so as to make clicks and traffic from vapid posts totally irrelevant. We don’t sell ads, or subscriptions, or generate revenue of any kind. That’s why we do none of the things that websites typically do that have the primary purpose of generating clicks.

What is their end game? They should threaten to vote for Pelosi instead, use the line “why vote for a fake lib when there is a real on?” or something like that or just threaten to vote “present”? I know those guys aren’t very smart but I can see them at least getting something out of the deal if they threatened to take away Boehner’s power rather than this fake run.

After the gloomy couple of days of rain w/temps in the 60s today, we’ll have sub-freezing nights, mostly in the teens here, with a high of around 28 on Thurs. Already tired of “winter” and we have a long way to go.

Central Ohio is windy as all get out with temps doing the dive from high 50s this morning at 7 am to 39° now and headed for 16° tonight.

RIP Stuart Scott. Didn’t even realize that he had been ill; I haven’t watched Sportscenter/ESPN for quite a few years now but anyone who watched the network in the 1990s into 2000s knew who he was and his signature calls. You could tell he loved sports and what he did. It showed every time he went on the air.

Sad that he’s passed away, but it’s frankly pathetic that no one at NRO realized what photo was associated with that Tweet - and then did nothing about it for as long as they have. That’s quite the social outreach they’ve got there.

As white privileged as he grew up, Carlson didn’t graduate from college, did he? He simply used his connections to get what he wanted.

Carlson was born in San Francisco, California. He grew up in Carlsbad, a suburb north of San Diego. He is the elder son of Richard Warner Carlson, a former Los Angeles news anchor and U.S. Ambassador to the Seychelles, who was also president of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and director of Voice of America.[2] His adoptive mother is Patricia Caroline Swanson (born 1945), former wife of Howard Feldman and an heiress to the Swanson food-conglomerate fortune.[2][3] He has a brother, Buckley Swanson Peck Carlson.[4] A great-uncle was Sen. J. William Fulbright.[3]

He attended St. George’s School, a boarding school in Middletown, Rhode Island. After graduation, he majored in History at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut.

How hard is it to delete the wrong photo, replace it with the right one, and say my bad but then again we are talking about the magazine that pushed segregation since William F. Famous ESPN sportscaster Stuart Scott. That’s right. He was. And is. Not that a hack operation like the National Review would care. Or know. They are supposed to be informative. Educational. Useful. They are not any of those things. But Stuart Scott was all of those things. And more. He was just a personality who showed those who tuned into ESPN to get scores injury updates a feel for the odds a person with class and intelligence. Every day. All of that lacking, also, in the “National Review”. Apology? They could not even spell apology. Review? Only to the cretins who wish to be lied to. Kiss my Irish Ass NR. Piss off.
