Life With Gohmert: Louie Runs for Speaker of the House

Dumbest man in Congress goes for the brass ring
Wingnuts • Views: 34,857

Today we have the word we’ve been waiting for, as Louie “Terror Babies” Gohmert announces he’ll be seeking the position of Speaker of the House, to replace John Boehner because he isn’t loony enough.

Could we possibly have the incredible luck to see the Dumbest Man in Congress ascend to such a lofty peak of political prowess? Probably not, but it sure would give us lots of material to work with.

As I tweeted recently, though…

I can’t bring myself to root for either team today. The Lions are a divisional rival for Green Bay and I loathe Jerry Jones with the fire of a thousand suns. That said, I’d rather see the Packers steamroll Carolina for an easy win than see them play Dallas. I’m grudgingly hoping the Lions keep putting the hurt on the Cowboys.

Considering that the murder rate was already declining before Rudy took office, and that everyone, Newt included, claimed that murder rates couldn’t go lower after Rudy left office, and yet they did.

People claimed that the stop and frisk was why the crime rates kept falling during Bloomberg, but yet in the past 18 months after stop and frisk has come to an end, the murder and crime rates continued to fall to rates and absolute levels that have not been seen in decades.

34 years ago (ouch, it hurt just typing that) I was working at a factory where the owners said they couldn’t afford to give raises and offered to open the books to anyone the union designated. The union refused, insisting that it was all a lie. Factory ended up closing. At that time, I wasn’t too impressed with the union…

Having said that, I think the right’s anti-union actions have done a lot toward destroying the middle class and moving wealth up to the 1%. In an environment where CEOs earn more in a day than the average worker makes in a year, we need unions more then ever. I’ve never understood what CEOs do in a day that is supposedly worth the yearly production of the average worker.

Today, the only way we’ll see any change in the stagnant wages for the working folks will be through strong unions. But the greedy class has convinced the sheeple that unions are of the Debil!

It ‘snot so much the team, but the fans. At least the fans who live anywhere but Dallas. They just fall in love with the pretty star and the pretty boy quarterback and chirp endlessly if they win a game. If the Boys lose, these cockroaches can’t be found. Still and all, I have no desire to see a resurgence of America’s Team.
Here in Philadelphia, the really surprising thing has been the death of the Celtics hatred. In the 70s and 80s, it probably surpassed even Cowboy hate. But with the demise of both franchises, I think it’s gone forever.

Oh believe me I understand the hatred of the fans. I live in the Washington metro area and I came of age during the 90’s so it was easy to see how people would hate the arrogance of the fans. But it’s just gotten to the point where they’ve become so mediocre since the triplets retired. But yeah not too many people hate the Celtics anymore. For me growing up in the 90’s, I probably disliked the Bulls the most although of course respected the amazing talent that MJ had.

I moved to Houston back in 1981. Left it in 1998. The fact that I even enjoy watching football these days is a fucking miracle. They had some of the most fairweather, bandwagon jumping fans for all their sports teams. When the teams were wining, everybody was a fan. MEGA SATA cable is the best SATA cable ever produced. Using Carbon Fiber it collects and stores RFI/EMI from the computer which results in cleaner sound with higher resolution and microdetail.
If you were previously annoyed by the harsh and edgy sound of computer transports, the MEGA SATA will solve the problem.
MEGA SATA is very heavy and must be resting on the bottom of the computer case together with the harddrive, preferably an SSD harddrive.

Here in Philadelphia, the really surprising thing has been the death of the Celtics hatred. In the 70s and 80s, it probably surpassed even Cowboy hate. But with the demise of both franchises, I think it’s gone forever.

I was thinking about that the other day. A Sixers/Celts matchup used to be a huge deal, even on a national level.

I left the high-end audio world when snake-oil like $10,000 cables started to get popular. Having designed a lot of speakers and amplifiers, I was appalled at the idea of connecting up “magic” cables to speakers/amps where the internal wiring was, well, not “magic”.

It still annoys me to see the ridiculous prices for a lot of the cables and speaker wire today. And don’t even get me started on “magic” power cables…

Reminds me of all the boasts when we got our LCD TV about how we definitely needed gold-plated HDMI cables for the best possible performance. The reality being that there’s no real difference for most applications, it just helps the clerk’s bottom line to sell you a $2 set of cables for $50 because they look shiny.

No, you’re in for something far worse than Cowboys fans after a loss. Cowboy fans after a victory. I don’t see them making it past GB but any given Sunday as they say. I think the SB will be Seattle and NE with Seattle hopefully repeating- can’t stand NE even though the only time I like a repeat is when it’s my own team doing it. Hoping Indy can upset Denver next week and then beat NE or Baltimore since I do like the Luck kid.

May cause slight problems
By AndrewCJ on October 16, 2014
I decided to pull the trigger and purchase this cable because my Samsung 85 inch 4k HD 3D TV ($40,000 if you are curious, fantastic TV, only had to re-finance my house 4 times and sell a kidne. I only need one so why not right?) just wasn’t getting the best with its supplied cable.
When the product arrived, which it did so in a timely manner (2 days 4 hours 26 minutes 41 seconds) I was surprised at how superb the packaging was. When I released it from its restraints I gently plugged the cable into the required ports.
This is where I was amazed. The picture looked better than it had before which was already fantastic. Now I could literally touch the characters and feel their pain and happiness in movies (this became a problem in several war movies as my wife took 3 rounds to the chest and in the arm, don’t worry she is in ICU being patched up). The audio sounded like that of a cascading waterfall while an ocestral symphany played Beethoven’s 7th. I shed tears just thinking about it.
Now the reason I am giving it an average 3 stars is because of one major issue that may be ,to others, a deal breaker. After 2 weeks of enjoyment the Samsung TV I mentioned earlier and my blue ray player both absorbed the power of this cable to the extent they transformed into fighting robots and have destroyed my beloved house. I am now living in my parents house and lost all my possessions.

Greetings everyone, and Happy 2015! So I spent the last five days basically without any real internet access, and barely 1-2 bars of cell phone reception. I can’t say how nice it is to return to GOHMERT!//

Basically, the ski lease we got this year didn’t have internet - AT&T won’t service the address (or any house on this specific street because it’s in an Avalanche Path and all cables are already buried under ground), the local cable-TV provider has cable TV available, but no internet (What the fucking fuck?), and the local Internet Provider (X-Wire - a wireless broadcast that requires every house to have a repeater installed on its roof) also says “No-go.” - That left me with one basic option - HughesNet - and I had their installer out on Friday to get me hooked up ($350 up front for the dish plus 2 year contract at $50/mo for 5GB/month filtered bandwidth). But alas, we had trees in our view of the 38 degree aspect to the south, which meant we spent most of Friday and part of Saturday before I told the guy to take his dish and leave…but I tipped him $60 for trying (I’m such a softie).

So, that leaves me with finding a decent mobile-signal booster to get us through the winter and also accepting that I won’t be able to work remotely or do anything that requires multi-media. - Suffice it to say this will be a one-season lease. Anyhoo - I’m back and I’m glad to see the internet hasn’t changed much. And Fuck. :)

Or grow up in Houston.

I moved to Houston back in 1981. Left it in 1998. The fact that I even enjoy watching football these days is a fucking miracle. They had some of the most fairweather, bandwagon jumping fans for all their sports teams. When the teams were wining, everybody was a fan. When they started to lose, or if they’d choke in a playoff game (O HAI Houston Oilers!) then people would be threatening to burn the stadiums down. It was awful.

Speaking of the Oilers’ legacy, their 70s & 80s propensity to completely blow a season and end it in the cellar finally came to roost here in Nashville.

The only solace we have as Titans fans this season is that we get the 2nd draft pick for this year’s draft; of course, that’s only good if Webster, Whisenhunt, and the rest of the front office and the Adams family doesn’t fucking completely blow that (and the rest of our draft picks) too.

I’ve poked into his WP source code some. The theme costs about $100, and he’s bought a couple of plugins for small change. His default category seems to be FRAUD, because nearly every story falls in that category, whether it’s fraud or not. I also suspect his version is not up to date, as some of those plugins say they are not compatible with WP4.1, which is what I run.

Given his MO, what he needs is a good editor and legal team. Programmers, not so much.

Way I figure it, there’s one of four plausible outcomes that will play out Tuesday:

1. Boehner wins by a thin margin, keeping the gavel but with the understanding that he’s effectively powerless. He either plays to the unruly children or to Pelosi, there’s no third “moderate” option.

2. A “moderate” compromise candidate wins on a promise of not repeating Boehner’s mistakes, again leaving him at the mercy at the TPers.

3. A TP candidate, possibly even Gohmert, wins enough support to become Speaker, meaning the next two years will be one long cavalcade of misery for the party establishment and “happy times” for the TPers.

4. The House GOP can’t settle on a candidate, not even a compromise one, leaving Dem votes to carry the day and returning Pelosi to the speakership.

Excepting the three unfortunate Speakers who died in office, 11 of the last 19 changes of Speaker occurred after mid-term elections. The TPers and 60% of Republican voters want a new Speaker. The main reasons given involve Boehner’s not holding out for ACA repeal and any number of other items on the RWNJ’s hallucinatory wish list. The House teahadists know that Gohmert is stupid enough to put up any legislation they demand so he’s a natural.

I’m gravitating more towards a compromise candidate, because the unruly children simply do not have the votes to put Gohmert there outright, and there’s still enough voices of sanity outside their ranks to oppose his being voted Speaker. Though I feel I should qualify that remark by noting that “sanity” in the case of the GOP these days is recognizing that the party needs to be something than the “Old Angry White Guy” party or else be doomed to the same fate as the Whigs.

re: #351 nearly-headless smith25

It’s very unusual for any grand juror to contemplate suing to be able to avoid the criminal sanctions for revealing details of a grand jury deliberations. They’re claiming a 1A defense to get a judge to allow the juror to speak out what the juror claims is significant misrepresentations by McCullough about the process and what the jurors were thinking.

Everything about the way McCullough handled the case was intent to find no indictment. If you had attached the same facts excepting that the shooter was a cop, indictments would have been handed down within hours. The case would go to a jury trial, where a jury would be able to examine the evidence presented by the prosecutor and rebutted by the defense, about whether the shooting was justified or not.

Rather, McCullough upended the usual process, and did so including putting on witnesses before the GJ that he knew or had reason to know were perjuring themselves or were not even present when the shooting occurred - all to obfuscate and mislead.

Far from being an ethical officer of the courts seeking justice, McCullough did just the opposite. He blocked justice from being done - at least as getting an indictment handed down. It’s still quite possible that even with an indictment, there wouldn’t be a conviction because MO law gives law enforcement wide latitude to use deadly force, but even there, the argument can be made that once Brown signaled hands up, there was no longer a threat to Wilson indicating the need for deadly force. By continuing to shoot at Brown, Wilson broke the law - committing homicide in the process (take your pick - negligent homicide, manslaughter, or murder 2, depending on how you want to parse the MO statute).

Stock prices plunge because oil plunges. Oil is being seen as bellweather for economic activity, even though cheaper oil prices means cheaper goods/services, lower transportation costs, but hurts the oil producers most. If prices keep dropping, whether to allow Keystone XL and other pipelines is an exercise in futility - the energy companies wont go forward because there’s slack demand for energy that costs far more to get at than cheaper sources. So, we’d also see a likely bust in places that have boomed due to the shale oil/fracking natural gas revolution. That’d include places like PA, WVA on the East Coast, and the Dakotas, Oklahoma, and Texas in the central US. All those jobs created will dry up - and the claims of job creation will go by the boards. States that tied their budgets to unending energy growth will find themselves in a bind too.

So, while the stock markets see all the energy price drops as a bad thing, most people will end up seeing benefits from lower energy prices.

U.S. crude fell below $50 a barrel on Monday for the first time since April 29, 2009 as worries about a surplus of global supplies and lackluster demand dragged on oil markets.

The February contract for West Texas Intermediate briefly fell to a session low of $49.95 in late morning trade.

Brent crude for February also hit a fresh 5-1/2-year low, falling as low as $53.08 per barrel.

Obama does everything. And nothing. /

He’s The Doctor. With a TARDIS, who can go back in time to rewrite history to his liking (and to stay a step ahead of the birthers, but I digress).

Yeah, I’ve seen that too.

He’s blamed for low natural gas prices putting the coal industry out of business. Then, he’s blamed for oil prices dropping so as to put frackers and the oil industry out of business (and btw, solar energy prices continue dropping too, so how long before the nitwits complain about that!). Never mind that there are global interests at play - slack demand in Europe and Russia, while supply remains at the same levels because OPEC isn’t cutting production. Natural gas prices are stable for the moment, and oil prices keep dropping, but it’s all Obama’s fault.

That from the same nitwits claiming gas prices would be at $6 a gallon at the pumps - and then stand in front of pumps this week when gas is pushing towards and below $2 in much of the country. And they’re complaining about that too! That prices are too low! It’s going to hurt the economy they say. And it’s all Obama’s fault.

The market. How does it work? Supply/demand? Foreign concepts to them. But anything that is an attack on Obama? That’s automatically passed on to the masses.

I always try to read as much of a thread as I can, because I don’t want to add something already in a thread and being discussed. But that has its own issues. Many times by the time I get through a thread and get ready to comment, the thread changes.

By the way, how is your wife doing? Hopefully she is getting stronger every day and fighting off that nasty infection.

385 Prof. Backpfeifengesicht, PhD  Jan 5, 2015 9:41:50am

So apparently DailyFail simply fabricates stories while stealing photos.

Here’s the “story”:

Man escapes fine when his pet bear pooped in the street - because the law only applies to dogs

Problems:
1. The photos were made by someone nicknamed “Dyadyaavtandil”, who posted them on 26.12.14 at yaplakal.com (if you click on the photos, you’ll get hi-res versions with smaller yaplakal stamps).
2. That user did not know the man’s name, but another user knew the guy on the photo, his surname is Aleksandrov, not “Biryukov”, and he’s the son of a bear trainer working at the Big Moscow Circus, which, as it happens, is just around the corner relative to the street on that photo.

So basically DailyFail not only stole photos, but also fabricated a story from scratch.

That image of the people swamping the KFC…I wonder if that was some kind of a store promotion that went a little too well? Offer some free stuff and boom, too many people and it all goes wrong.

Later…gonna run out and get a few things to help tide me over ‘til the weekend. With the weather forecasts, I think I am going to go into bunker mode and let everyone else go nuts on the roads, etc.

Ok, not as cold as most of the rest of the lizards but real cold for us. Brrrr!

Today’s predicted high: 68.

Tomorrow’s predicted high: 74.

Wednesday’s predicted high: 73.

It was a real image of people swarming the public housing department to get forms for assistance. Then someone photoshopped the KFC logo.

Yes. The suicide bomber has been analyzed by Robert Pape of the University of Chicago, who has made a study of every single suicide bombing from 1980 to 2004. He has found that it’s always a response to the invasion of the homeland by a militarily superior power. People feel their space is invaded, and they resort to this kind of action because they can’t compete with the invaders. [Suicide bombing] was a ploy [first] used by the Tamil Tigers, who had no time for religion. Of the many Lebanese bombings [in the 1980s], only seven of them were committed by Muslims, three by Christians. The rest, some 17 or so, were committed by secularists and socialists coming in from Syria.

They’re akin to those who insist that alcoholics can stop drinking if they just exert a little willpower. Willpower? Shit. Try forcing down that first drink in the morning, throwing it up, forcing down a second drink, throwing it up, and repeating until you can keep one down.

I haven’t watched the video yet (I’ll bookmark it for later), but I find the part about it always being a response to invasion a bit difficult to reconcile. I mean, the 19 September 11 hijackers were from Saudi Arabia (15), the United Arab Emirates (2), Egypt and Lebanon—the U.S. hasn’t invaded any of those places.

Maybe he’s not categorizing what they did as a suicide bombing?

Yeah, I’m sure he did, but the asshole didn’t take it up with the Saudi government, who were the ones that invited us in after Iraq invaded Kuwait:

Operation Desert Shield began on 7 August 1990 when U.S. troops were sent to Saudi Arabia due also to the request of its monarch, King Fahd, who had earlier called for U.S. military assistance. […]

Ah, re-read your post.

He says “occupied” not invaded. Meaning, military bases. Which rings true with what I can remember about news reports after 9/11.
