George Zimmerman is currently in jail in Seminole County Florida on aggravated assault charges, with domestic violence and weapon enhancements. ~~Also, he’s not eligible for bail, which on top of the weapon and domestic violence upgrades is a really bad sign.~~ Edit, Update 1: Zimmerman has now seen the judge and is being held on a $5000 bond.

Update 2: We now have a bit more of the story. Seems Zimmerman lost his temper and the weapon the assault refers to was a bottle of wine.

Judge John Galluzzo gave few details of the incident, but said a wine bottle was involved and that the alleged assault happened at Zimmerman’s home. Prosecutors questioned whether substance abuse treatment was needed, but the judge said that didn’t seem to be a factor.

After the brief hearing, Zimmerman’s attorney, Don West, told the Orlando Sentinel (tinyurl.com) his client was arrested after allegedly throwing a wine bottle at his girlfriend several days ago.

Zimmerman, who wore blue scrubs and handcuffs, appeared calm during the brief hearing. At one point, he laughed and joked with an officer as he signed paperwork.

Although the incident didn’t involve a firearm, the judge ordered Zimmerman to surrender any weapons out of an abundance of caution.

SANFORD — George Zimmerman is back in the Seminole County jail for a third time after he was arrested Friday night in Lake Mary.

The 31-year-old was booked around 9:45 p.m. on charges of aggravated assault with a weapon. He is being held without bond and will appear before a judge at 9 a.m.

EDIT: Also…if Zimmerman shoots again (and he will, I think its only a matter of time), it won’t be a “cleaning accident”, it will probably be a multiple shooting event.

I don’t know when, where, or why, I just hope he steps in front of a bus before that happens.

Um, no. He was ordered to surrender his firearms because it’s the fucking law, he’s being charged with felony domestic violence and has an active restraining order against him for same.

Zimmerman was also told by the judge to stay out of Volusia County, where the woman lives.

That, right there, is a restraining order, and it’s a strong one. It’s not the normal X number of feet deal, that’s straight up stay the fuck out of Dodge. The second the Judge put that into play any option or wiggle room regarding allowing Zimmerman to keep his guns flew right out the window.

Maybe, technically, without the restraining order there might have been some discretion between his arrest and the arraignment which will take place in a week. However I’m pretty sure the second you tell someone to stay out of an entire county as a condition of making bail for domestic violence aggravated assault, whatever chin scratchy I’m a judgy Judge making judgement calls sailed in the matter of Zimmerman keeping his shootin’ irons.
