Are You Ready for the Return of the Son of the Romney Experience?

Aggressive outreach
Politics • Views: 39,244

And just like that, Mitt Romney’s preliminary feelers about running for President in 2016 have turned into an “almost certain” 2016 bid.

Mitt Romney is moving quickly to reassemble his national political network, calling former aides, donors and other supporters over the weekend and on Monday in a concerted push to signal his seriousness about possibly launching a 2016 presidential campaign.

Romney’s message, as he told one senior Republican, was that he “almost certainly will” make what would be his third bid for the White House. His aggressive outreach came as Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) — Romney’s 2012 vice presidential running mate and the newly installed chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee — announced Monday that he would not seek the presidency in 2016.

He’s next in line, he doesn’t feel pity or remorse or fear, and he’ll never stop.

I think that JEB! already called those donors.

They should do a commercial with him walking out of a fire, nothing left but a metal skeleton. He could even say “I’ll be back.”

Why the hell not? It’ snot like they have any real frontrunners.

And then we have the son of the son of Romney:

It’s not out of the question that an unpopular GOP candidate who lost could run again and win.

Case in point: Nixon 1968

Hillary is so unpopular that it’s very feasible Jeb or Mitt could run against her and win.

Too true. There are millions of morons in the US that are perfectly willing to vote GOP in 2016 “because its their turn”.

I agree. I really like her too but she’s not presidential material. Man I’d love Biden. If only he was a decade or really even five years younger. I’m on record on liking Biden a lot more than Clinton. I think he not only has more style than Hillary but more substance too. A lot of people just see “Good old Uncle Joe” and forget that he chaired two very important committees during his time as Senator and is very knowledgeable in domestic and foreign issues.

36 Decatur Deb  Jan 12, 2015 6:51:10pm

The Dems don’t have a deep bench for 2016, but they also don’t have the risk of a nutcase like Cruz or Paul slipping through.

Andrew Cuomo appears to be a traitor to the party, in view of his games with the NY state legislature.

We’ve come to a pretty pass when giving consumers an even break and making large corporations play by the rules is considered radical. If Clinton is our nominee I will cheerfully leave the POTUS part of my ballot unmarked. In CA you don’t have to vote for every candidate or measure.

I see Nixon in ‘68 was brought up before. Mitt could be Nixon to Hillary’s Humphrey. Not exactly the most ideal analogy honestly since Nixon’s a lot more savvy than Mitt is politically and HHH had a more established legislative record but I see the two as similiar since both of them are types that appeal more to the establishment types that run the parties than anything.

Possible scenario?

Mitt and Jeb split GOP, Wingnut candidate sprints up the middle and gets the nomination.

45 HappyWarrior  Jan 12, 2015 6:55:56pm

I’d like to see Julian or Joaquin Castro seek higher office and perhaps parlay that into a presidential or vice presidential run. I really liked what I saw out of Julian as the keynote at teh DNC three years ago. I think he’s got a future ahead of him and I think the party honchos agree given the primetime slot and the fact he’s since taken a spot in the Obama cabinet.

That’s what I was thinking too. That someone by the way I think could be Huckabee. I think Huckabee would be my early bet to win the Iowa caucuses. Huckabee’s going to have an advantage being an Evangelical that Santorum never did in the deep South primaries.

IMO Julian Castro was going to be the new rising star here in Texas. The Dems were grooming him for a run at the governor’s office because it would be a natural next step from being mayor of San Antonio, but the Wendy Davis filibuster stepped on their plans.

I’m hoping they have him run for office again soon. I think he’d be great at the state or federal level.

Yeah I think you’re right about that. From one exec spot to another. Probably for the best for him given the results last year. I’d love for him to run against Cruz in 2018, I think he would give Cruz a legitimate challenge even with it being a midterm year.

Hell if we can get them scared in Texas, I’d call that a win. To speak from personal reference, I had a feeling that Virginia was trending purplish blue when Webb beat Allen in 2006. A very Democratic year obviously but at the same time, Allen was expected to win easily and then use that win to drive into a presidential candidacy which obviously never happened after he lost.

Hick knows how to pick his battles, when to tack left or right on issues, and he’s just a nice guy with a seemingly perpetual sunny demeanor. I also happen to agree with a lot of his politics, although he did cave to oil and gas industries in re: municipal discretion in re: hydraulic fracturing.

Before the election he stayed the execution of Nathan Dunlap, a man on death row in Colorado for almost 20 years for murdering four people at a Chuckie Cheese restaurant, proving his anti-death penalty stance 100%.
