Rand Paul Pens Politico Piece Denying the GOP Is Anti-Science (With a Climate Change Denying Co-Author)

Liars lying
Wingnuts • Views: 38,145

When Rand Paul says, “No, the GOP is absolutely not doing that thing you think they’re doing,” be assured that yes, they very definitely are doing that thing.

Case in point: No, the GOP Is Not at War With Science - Sen. Rand Paul and Rep. Lamar Smith.

Sen. Paul and Rep. Smith are trying to tell you how great it is that the GOP is going to be deciding how the nation spends its funding on science. And based on their histories, we can be sure there won’t be any money going to studying climate change, just for starters.

Lamar Smith, by the way, is a Christian Scientist who believes gravely ill people can be healed through prayer alone.

But to be sure, the GOP isn’t against all science; if it’s the kind that causes things to blow up or people to die, they’ll open the checkbook.

This country is about to find out what a horrible mistake we’ve made by handing control of the National Science Foundation to dishonest right wing fanatics.

I think you over-estimate the intelligence of the American people. Many voters are right-wing-fanatics that constantly lie even to themselves. Many of them will never engage with reality. Even if their stupidity directly impacts their lives, they’ll continue to blame their problems on “the other.” They don’t think because they can’t think.

Sure, but if you accurately interpret it, it goes in the fiction section, and most Americans can’t cope with that reality. At best you can get people to ignore all the evil in the bible, and focus on the positive, like moderate and left-wing christianity, but that’s not really any more honest than evil right-wing christianity. it’s just more palatable for good people.

Some of the problems are beyond his (or any government’s control), like watching four casinos shut down in the matter of months, with the loss of thousands of jobs and watching the casino revenue taxes drop year over year for years in a row.

The casino revenue taxes brought in about a billion dollars; with that gone, there’s no place else for the state to look to for easy revenue raising. It’s all on the sales, income, or motor fuel taxes, with local property taxes being capped by state law to 4% raises per year (and that mostly goes to fund local govt services and schools).

That’s the major problem, IMHO, about relying on “sin taxes” to support the bulk of a budget, rather than using that revenue as a buffer in addition to usual sources of revenue.
Much like how state lottery revenues were initially touted as supporting education but ended up replacing the usual revenue sources, much to the regret of every public school system.

Sounds like something in need of the two parties getting together and looking towards long-range plans to get the state’s finances and infrastructure on a better and firmer footing.

Which is what we need for the nation as a whole as well. But will get nowhere in the partisan political climate we currently live in.

And Christie, from what I have seen, is not the person that will get that sort of thing started at either level.

Why would Republicans worry about science and climate change and all that? They are the party of Christians and Christian fundies. It is all in God’s hand, it is meant to be.

So, if they ignore science and the climate goes to shit and starts to not support human and other life forms, well that was just what God intended, who would be so arrogant to think otherwise?

And if you are a believer, there is no consequence with ending life, God will be saving them and they are all going to a better place.

re: #28 Backwoods_Sleuth

The casino revenues are the smallest slice of revenues taken in the state (property, personal, and sales taxes are the biggest portion); it’s just that with things so tight in the NJ budget, any reduction of revenue has a bad outcome.

Read that NJ has one of the more volatile budget projections because personal income tax revenues are all over the map and are off by a greater degree than other states. That makes figuring out how much money the state has to work with even more difficult. Christie hasn’t addressed that except as to limit how much information his budget office releases.

And his budget projection for 2015 includes the same kind of rosy projections that led him to running a massive deficit last year requiring him to go back on his pension payment deal.

Ver is well known in the Bitcoin community as an entrepreneur and angel investor, having funded products including Blockchain, Ripple, and Blockpay. He became known as “Bitcoin Jesus” after giving thousands of coins of the virtual currency away for free. Ver was born in the US, making him a citizen there, but he renounced his citizenship in March — and now he says the government isn’t letting him back in.

I assumed Santorum was running again. Not that it matters.

Santorum is running but this time as Mike Huckabee.

I think Jones taking over alienated a lot of people. The whole firing Landry thing.

I could understand that; everyone has to go sometime. Now firing Jimmy Johnson because he couldn’t stand someone else getting credit for rebuilding the team was inexcusable.

If I had that Nelson Muntz picture in my image library, it would be getting a workout!

More Texas stupidity:

On Monday night, GOP Congressman Randy Weber caused a stir when he compared President Obama to Adolf Hitler.

The Texas Congressman criticized President Obama on Twitter for his absence at Sunday’s Unity Rally in response to terror attack in Paris, which many other world leaders attended. Weber tweeted: “Even Adolph Hitler thought it more important than Obama to get to Paris. (For all the wrong reasons.) Obama couldn’t do it for right reasons.”

Yeah that’s messed up too. Could never see one of the Rooneys doing that to Noll, Cowher, or Tomlin. Makes me glad that my team is my team where the owner doesn’t make himself bigger than the team like JJ does with the Cowboys.
