Former Congressman Joe Walsh: Let’s Hope Islamists Behead Cowards at CNN and MSNBC

Patriotism
Wingnuts • Views: 37,750

Former Illinois Rep. Joe Walsh (also known as a deadbeat dad) took to the Twitters today to call for Islamists to murder journalists. Yes, really.

The right wing just keeps getting more and more debased. This is why people like Chuck C. Johnson are popular — the right has a seemingly insatiable appetite for these kinds of evil scumbags.

The sad fact is if Walsh lived in a state that wasn’t politically sane like Illinois is, he would probably still be in Congress today.

Doesn’t one have to have “base” before he/she can become “debased”? Therefore, I will have to object based upon facts not in evidence.

Over the weekend, a Texas gun rights group repeatedly reenacted the Charlie Hebdo massacre in order to determine whether it could have been prevented if one of the editors or cartoonists had been armed, CBS DFW reports.

Members of the group, “The Truth About Guns,” recreated the Hebdo offices, then took turns playing the role of the “armed civilian” in the scenario.

No matter how the situation played out, though, one thing remained consistent — if the “armed civilian” confronted the attackers, he or she died. The only time the “armed civilian” survived was when the volunteer playing him ran away at the first sound of gunfire.

The fact is that CNN is busy presenting the publication of the cartoons as a major show of solidarity in support of freedom of expression, which is what it is overall. Even a newspaper in Turkey had the courage to show the cartoons, in defiance of Turkish authoritites.

It seems inappropriate that CNN refuses to show the cover with its cartoon, as newsworthy as it is, because it shows an image of Muhammad.

There’s always been a tension in Islam over representational art of any kind. The stricter sects in the Arab world and worse yet, Berber North Africa, were frequently death on incorporating representations of any kind of living things in art—the Almohads in Spain even prohibited vegetational patterns in their “Arabesque” decorations, I think. In Persia, banning representational art was a very hard sell. This has gone back and forth for a long time, but I don’t think it’s a Sunni vs. Shi’a thing, I think it’s a Semitic (and Berber) vs. Persian thing.

I guess all the media now have to be exactly the same because…why again?
If it is not something they would have published/aired previously, why should they change the policy now?

Forcing media outlets to adhere to one viewpoint is not OK, no matter who is doing it.

And that is one of the reasons they’re not Catholics anymore. I don’t see them demanding that the RCC stop doing those things?

Of course not, but that’s not what was asked initially.

Besides, if the “catholics are wicked idolatry” Christian crowd really meant it, the War on Christmas would take on a whole new meaning with those nativity scenes.

That’s the point of free speech and expression; the right to choose what you want to say or not say (and endure the consequences other than violence).

If US media outlets want to post ‘em, go ahead. If they don’t, go ahead. It doesn’t mean I have to watch/read them or not.

When I was up in New York before Christmas we went out to a historical village that had a special Yule tour going where you visit different houses and stores and a spectrum of how different residents are reacting to the celebration of Christmas as of 1849 or so - when the New York legislature first declared Christmas Day to be treated as a non-business day like Sunday.

The house occupied by Scots, for instance, were just celebrating Christmas itself for the first time at the request of their children. They usually celebrated New Year’s Day instead.

Once I download photos I might right up a page on it.

This is exactly what I was trying to express in another thread yesterday WRT free speech—i.e. do WTF you want, but if I find something disagreeable and choose not to view it, then don’t come shove it in my face and demand that I approve of it. Freedom works both ways:

That’s fine as long as I’m allowed to reserve my right NOT to view their magazines/cartoons. If someone comes along shoving them in my face, insisting that I look at them and demanding that I refrain from expressing my dislike, then they can just piss right the hell off.

Wow - this is interesting:

rawstory.com

This is also telling:

As the Facebook post below indicates, the group actively solicited volunteers for the simulation:

It has not, however, updated its Facebook page with the results of it as of this writing.

Gotta hand it to LH, he’s on that shit very quickly. DimJim has never met a fear spreader that he hasn’t liked.

I smelled BS on that given that they just found the damned voice recorder yesterday (and the data recorder the day before). It takes time to prepare the gear for playback (because it’s been submerged and they have a process).

And once I began looking around, I found that they simply haven’t gotten to the point of reviewing it, let alone publicizing the contents. Rather, the investigator was saying what he’s had to do in prior cases - deal with the pilots’ knowing their last moments are upon them, and their pleas to God (aka OH GOD! Holy Shit! Allahu Ackbar! etc.) and trying to be dispassionate and figure out what was the technical cause of the crash.

re: #159 HappyWarrior

I hope Marty’s not a real doctor.

He is. He’s a plastic surgeon in Kentucky. He generally has good reviews on Vitals but a couple of the negative one’s really stand out:

Review 1:

Had the surgery and in March breast was healed and my left breast was actually worst than before . He kept making excuses about me being African American and I didn’t have enough skin for the breast to set correctly. Excuses, excuses!!! Dr. Fox knew I was very unhappy now and said he would go back in and redo it again but he couldn’t promise me any better results. I decided not to go back to Dr.Fox because he had already messed me up twice and charged me operating fees twice. So needless to say my left breast is even more damaged and I can’t wear tank tops or any kind of shirts that are low cut. I spent over $9.500 in fees at his office and I still have to live with the fact that I am paying for breast that I am not happy with.

Review 2:

Initially I was taken a back by Dr. Fox, and thought he was a cool gentleman who genuinely cared about his patients. Notably of all the staff in his office, not one was African American. That did not deter my decision to move forward with breast reduction procedure.

… Ready to get this ball rolling, and have these breast off and pain relieved. I was again met with the Dr.’s hesitation about the insurance and my weight. Again I am noticing no patients of color, and made a note to ask why they didn’t have any AA working for them. So after he continue to scare the heck out of me. I was almost ready to walk away and say forget it. Like I had allowed fear to do for years. But nope I turned around signed my papers and moved on to getting the test done before the surgery. So I get a phone call a day later from a nurse or someone, asking me about my smoking and making sure I understood AGAIN the drastic dangers of having this surgery. When I said okay and I had to go. She then called back and told me that Dr. Fox wanted me to call him. I called and he said FINALLY after 3 Months. I don’t think I should do your surgery. I said if you didn’t want to do the surgery you could have told me. He said I don’t appreciate how you treated my staff. NOw keep in mind I asked the staff to let me hangup because she was scaring me. I also told her she was making me feel stupid. So instead of rectifying the situation. HIS staff set me back by lying and making up whatever it was. Then he not only lied about not wanting to the surgery because he was unsure the results would be successful. He made up something to get out of it. Then he went on to say by text and I quote, “You are no longer welcome in my office. And if you write a review of me and this office, I will sue you for defamation of character.” Well as promised here is my review, with exactly what happened while visiting this Doctor in his office. The unprofessionalism of his staff, his own admittance in his inability to provide me with a successful surgery. And the lack of sympathy to refer me back to the Doctor or to someone that could better provide for me instead. I bet that instead of admitting to his wrongs, and reprimanding his staff a Ms. Ruth, he will attempt to discredit me as a patient just trying to get relief as being disgruntle, rude and obnoxious. So for that purpose I will be ensuring to file a complaint with all the proper authorities to ensure that this doesn’t happen to anyone else. And if I was smart I would have read these reviews prior to the scheduling of my surgery instead of today. I will also be writing a blog about the practices of surgeons, and doctors since insurance methods, and policies has changed and seek to give account to all of those who have also been affected by situations like this.

31 Oct 1999 Egypt Air 990 “I rely on God”

I remember it. Sadly, anything spoken in Arabic by a Muslim automatically becomes suspect, something indicative of sinister intent:

But what is clear is that Batouti then softly said, “Tawakkalt ala Allah,” which proved difficult to translate, and was at first rendered incorrectly, but essentially means “I rely on God.” […]

theatlantic.com

That phrase is not the least bit sinister in the context of being Muslim:

Tawakkul as a theological concept was formalized by Shaqiq al-Balkhi (d. 810), who defined it as a spiritual state or hal. Tawakkul is also considered a natural result of extreme zuhd. Zuhd can be described as being based on tawakkul or “trust in God alongside love of poverty.” This has led to an argument over whether or not tawakkul is a consequence of perfect faith. An author wrote that someone that trusts in God is like a baby seeking its mother’s breast and always finds it. He says that just like the infant, the one who trusts God is always led to God. […]

I have no idea what the equivalent phrase in Hebrew is, but I don’t doubt for a moment that one exists and would be uttered in times of danger or uncertainty.

LOL, I can’t let this go! I’m thinking about typing the following response:

I’m having a hard time believing that *any* police department, even ones in Texas, would sign off on this “experiment”.

Also, if you get a conceal carry person participating in your proposed experiment, how exactly are you going to get them to not bring their weapon? Frisk? Metal detectors? Ask nicely?

Maybe I’m wrong, but I’m guessing you’re at least a CCW proponent, or an actual participant. You’re going to tell me that if someone told you to come to this gathering (in which, by your own rules, the host is possibly not spelling the whole thing out) and said “Please don’t bring your gun”, you’d go “Sure! No problem!”?

In addition, what are you going to do if one of your participants decides “Screw them, I’m showing up with my weapon anyway”?

You’re basically creating a potential bloodbath here. But, hey, at least you’ll have an apology letter to smooth things over.

I have better things to do, but the sheer idiocy of this guy’s proposal fascinates me.

Hell, lets make it a law! Free Speech!

I don’t see anyone declaring that except you, in an effort to invent something absurd in order to try to attack what you alone invented. It’s the kind of straw man argument I would expect on Fox Nation.

I am entitled to criticize CNN for its decision. That is my right, and what I am doing. That is not inappropriately “forcing” anyone to do anything by exercising my right to explain why I consider CNN wrong.

Inappropriately “forcing” a decision on CNN is intimidating them through explicit or implicit threats of violence to make a particular decision. I am a regular CNN viewer and the explanation I heard myself given initially on CNN for why they were not showing the cartoon cover was that they wanted to show it, but needed to consider the safety of their personnel overseas as their first priority.

THAT is forcing them. That is an assault on freedom of expression. Criticizing their bad decision and saying they should have supported freedom of expression and not caved is itself freedom of expression.

I told Zedushka to let it out through the garage, but he heard it thrashing around and was afraid to open the pantry because he thought it would fly into his face and then into the house.

So he left it in there thrashing around.

Then I came home and I’m like “did you let the bird out?” and he’s like “No it’s still in there” but there was no more thrashing.

I opened the pantry and it was dead on the floor. While it was thrashing around it strangled itself on the ribbon handle of a gift bag.

Ignoring that, they also have the right to maintain a consistent position, regardless of the topicality of the cartoons or the free speech rights issue at play. Asking that they change that policy in light of a terrorist attack is in effect asking them as a professional news organization to react emotionally to terrorism, to stake a more idealistic position than they did prior to the attack.

I don’t really care if CNN’s decision is based on safety concerns, or are a pragmatic matter of ensuring access to officials in muslim countries, or just a matter of respecting the religious sensibilities of certain employees. I don’t need my news to come from ideological purists, as long as they at least try to adhere to basic journalistic ethics and best practices.

Yeah that Cutler contract is an albatross. I think Fox will help Da Bears with Da Defense though. I got no dog in the NFC North but football’s better when Da Bears are a competitor.

I remember it. Sadly, anything spoken in Arabic by a Muslim automatically becomes suspect, something indicative of sinister intent:

That phrase is not the least bit sinister in the context of being Muslim:

I have no idea what the equivalent phrase in Hebrew is, but I don’t doubt for a moment that one exists and would be uttered in times of danger or uncertainty.

Sounds to me to be more-or-less equivalent to “God help me/us”.

Of course, the Islamophobes and ignoramuses always seem to assume and ascribe ill intent to brown folks who aren’t speaking ‘Mercun.

Not him, but I saw that very thing happen seamlessly during the Clinton/Bush transition, and then UN-happen during the Bush/Obama transition.

The very same people who decried the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act and the FISA court as a ‘secret court’ that allowed Clinton to spy on any American he wanted to for any reason at all back in 2000, argued in 2005 that it was infringing on the Constitutional authority of the President to require him to go to the FISA court for approval to spy on any American he wanted to for any reason at all.

Nope, I haven’t seen much at all of it since 2008. I wasn’t a TV enthusiast before then and the election coverage was so bad that I just turned the set off and then forgot to turn it back on. I like old movies, some foreign movies and Brit cop shows. Netflix and DVDs suffice for me.

After allegedly defecating in his cell, Rainey was handcuffed and locked into a tight shower cell and blasted for nearly two hours with water that was over 180 scolding hot degrees in temperature. Begging for his life, screaming apologies and remorse so loud that other inmates could hear them, the officers kept the water so hot and forceful that the steam began to melt off Darren Rainey’s skin. Cutler will be kept next year because they have no other options, and have to eat his cap if they cut him. Maybe Fox/new regime can rehabilitate his standing to be tradeable for a return. if not, after next year they can cut him with minimal cap hit going forward.

He’s not in their re-imagined future - the Bears don’t have a chance to be good in the near term, and they’re not going waste nearly $20m of cap space on him while rebuilding at his age and shitty track record. A desperate team that needs a competent QB - and Cutler is surely better than some on otherwise good teams - might bite.
