The Sad State of Affairs at GotNews

Really Chuck, is that all you have left?

Chuck C. Johnson posing with his best friend

You may not have realized it, since Chucky has been tweeting up a storm lately, but things have been strangely quiet over at his flagship media enterprise GotNews. His last “BREAKING” story? Posted three days ago:

BREAKING: Here’s A Picture of Ted Cruz With All Of His Trophies #TedCruz Crimes

Therein, one finds a picture of young Ted Cruz standing in front of his many debate team trophies, and a scan of the April 20, 1992 edition of The Daily Princetonian, which features an article about Mr. Cruz’s debating prowess.

Seriously, with everything going on in the world, he can find nothing worth writing about in the past 3 days other than a 22-year old article about the Princeton debate team? He can’t even bring himself to find some hapless victim to dox? Are there no black people in the news for him to smear?

Is it any wonder he’s still begging for money? If you were an investor, would you want to give your money to this sad little blog?

And, I do sorta want to give him money…because sometimes he’s entertaining. Although, I’d really prefer he keep grifting from his own type.

So where is the data for this going to come from? Not to mention, who cares? I don’t even care what my own IQ is, and can’t really remember my kids’ (though I’ve been told.) It has just occurred to me in writing this that I don’t know my husband’s IQ either. It is in most ways a useless piece of information.

Anyway there’s probably already a Mensa group somewhere near him that will take care of his need not to have to talk to the rest of us.

His recent vacation with his wife didn’t turn out so well.
After he tweeted that vacations were “no tweeting allowed”, he sent multiple drunk tweets the very first night, and all day on her birthday. Then he tweeted (still on vacation, mind you) that she had a very bad cold and was stuck in their hotel room, and was unhappy…and he was in trouble…

So, I am looking through alternatives to finding people other than singlemuslim.com, which isn’t working.

ISNA has a banquet coming to Houston in March, but I then found out how it operates. It’s essentially speed dating, which makes no sense to me (if someone can explain how it works, I would appreciate it.). Which leaves few options.

I may do the page still it depends if anyone takes me seriously in the next month.

Speed dating is… did you ever do square dancing? Every couple of minutes the caller yells “change your partner” and one gender all moves over to the next spot, you now have another couple of minutes. You end up spending a few minutes each with maybe 10-15 people, and can decide if you’d like to get to know any of them better. If they picked you too, then you have a real date.

Um, there are similarities to non-Muslim speed dating, but there are also significant differences (e.g. parents may very well come along as chaperones):

Speed-Dating, Muslim Style

Speed dating is always a bit awkward. Take away the alcohol, invite parents to watch from the sidelines, and the ritual takes on the excruciating air of a middle-school dance. Now raise the stakes: Mr. Baig was one of many at the Bayside event who said that if a match was made, marriage could follow within a month.

That’s Millanus, the ultimate oxymoron: Islamic matrimony speed dating. It is a twice-yearly conclave started in 2007 by a Pakistani-American financial adviser from Long Island who was tired of being asked by Muslim clients if he knew anyone suitable for their children. Some 75 participants, including people from as far away as Seattle, Ottawa and Texas, paid $120 in advance — $150 at the door — for the most recent event, which included a few dozen five-minute “dates”; a buffet of chicken curry and biryani rice coated in saffron; and a break for prayer. Family members like Mr. Baig were encouraged to observe the encounters. To drink: hot tea or Kool-Aid. […]

dating

a friend of mine suggested getting involved in your spare time in activities involving other people that are things you really enjoy on the theory that you will meet people there who really enjoy the same things you do

if you are looking for only muslims then maybe volunteering, music, or classes at a mosque or other muslim organization

German anti-Islam rally canceled after threat to organizer

BERLIN - A weekly rally by a German group protesting what it calls “the Islamization of the West” was called off on Sunday because of a terrorist threat against one of its organizers, the group and authorities said. […]

Dresden police chief Dieter Kroll said in a statement that there was a “concrete” threat connected to a member of the PEGIDA team and Monday’s demonstration. In view of that, he issued an order barring any rallies in the city on Monday.

Kroll said there had been a call for attackers to mingle with the demonstrators and kill one of the protest organizers. He didn’t specify where the threat came from, or if any group was behind it, but said it resembled an Arabic-language Tweet describing PEGIDA as an “enemy of Islam.”

He said there was no information about any specific potential attacker or how exactly an attack might be carried out, which led officials to conclude that there was no way to prevent possible danger other than canceling the rally. […]

The irony of UpChuck bragging about his IQ is that, best case, he’s displaying that IQ and ignorance aren’t mutually exclusive.

IQ is basically meaningless; we can’t really define intelligence, much less meaningfully measure it. Can we create tests that measure people’s ability at performing the tasks involved in the tests? Yes. Is there some correlation between people’s ability to perform well on tests and to perform well on other tasks? Yes. But as UpChuck demonstrates, performing well on a test doesn’t necessarily predict doing well at other tasks. I’ve never seen UpChuck perform well on ANY task other than drunk tweeting.

I’ve worked with some truly brilliant folks over the years. Not one ever felt the need to brag about their IQ, in fact just the opposite.

The other irony is that if UpChuck did find a dating site that “revolves” around high IQ, by his definition, the folks would be smart. And somehow, I can’t see anybody smart wanting to date the poopster.

Well.

Crap.

A 92 year old member of our parish tripped and fell going down the stairs to the basement of our church this morning for after service coffee. She was clear and coherent after but couldn’t stand due to pain. We called 911 and the paramedics came and assisted her out of the stairwell and into an ambulance.

I just received word from her daughter that she broke her pelvis in her fall. This is not a good thing, though not quite the death sentence it was even a few years ago.

We’ve been wanting to renovate and put in an elevator to avoid this kind of problem for years but we’re a tiny parish that has no endowment - we’re already $20k short of next years budget.

Anyone know of a charity that would give a tiny church in the middle of fly over several hundred thousand dollars to renovate? /// I wish. We’ll get by, as always.

Prayers & positive waves for Elizabeth, if you would.

I’d check again. I believe a number of companies make lifts that could handle corners.

Quick Google search shows that ones that do it are out there. An example.

My in-laws have a stair lift in their house (my father-in-law is in a wheelchair) although they don’t have any fancy curves or anything. I suspect it was a lot cheaper than an elevator would have been, and they were building new.

That’s interesting but it still looks like it would need too much room - the church was built as a wedding chapel in 1912 and things are smaller than we would be allowed to build these days.

So I was just going through Pew Research Center’s December 2012 report, The Global Religious Landscape, which is based on census data from 2010 and shows maps of the regional distribution of various religions including the “unaffiliated” (which includes atheists & agnostics, but doesn’t preclude some sort of religious/spiritual belief).

I decided to compare only the 3 Abrahamic religions & the unaffiliated and ignore the rest (Hindus. Buddhists, etc.) since there aren’t any western fears about them, AFAIK. Take a look at the distribution of Jews & Muslims in the West as compared to Christians & the unaffiliated and kindly explain to me how in the hell some people are convinced that the former two groups are an impending threat to the culture—nay, the very existence—of the latter two.

Alternatively, in mild months, perhaps coffee could be served on the lawn? A cover could be had pretty cheap, donated, or at least bought w/a good discount (stores are eager to spread goodwill). It might be a little more challenging to get everything set up (esp w/chairs and tables), but make it a festive and fun post-service event.

In terms of options that don’t require major renovation, it’s the best one I can think of - is there only one entrance into the basement? Good luck, and best thoughts for Elizabeth.

Actually, the salary number is pretty impressive when you consider their description:

Top executives work in nearly every industry. They work for large and small businesses, ranging from one-person companies to firms with thousands of employees. Top executives often work many hours, including evenings and weekends. In 2012, about half worked more than 40 hours per week. Travel is common, particularly for chief executives.

Emphasis mine.

Also interesting:

Top executives held about 2.3 million jobs in 2012. About 86 percent of those jobs were held by general and operations managers and 14 percent were held by chief executives.

The back entrance is through the kitchen (basement) or sacristy (upstairs). Harder for old folks to negotiate.

I’ve found the information I’d been sent on the ones they were considering previously - range from $8k to 20k for the lift plus whatever for building modifications. I’m going to read more and ponder. Thanks for the ideas folks, it does help.

Can’t wait, if what I’m hearing about what he’ll say is true, such as tax reforms to benefit those of us who live for the next paycheck, such as raising the tax on capital gains to 28% (what it was during the Reagan era), increasing the child allowance, etc.

—“Closing the trust fund loophole, which the administration says allows hundreds of billions of dollars to escape untaxed and means wealthier Americans aren’t paying their “fair share” on inherited assets.

—Raising the total top capital gains and dividends rate back to the level under President Ronald Reagan of 28 percent, which would affect couples making more than $500,000. Current realized cap gains are taxed at 20 percent with a 3.8 percent surcharge.

—Placing a fee on the biggest financial firms, making it more costly for them to borrow.

“Such measures would help the country pay for other programs, including providing free community college, officials said. They added that Obama plans to unveil other proposals for working and middle class families, including a $500 tax credit for second earners in families, which could aid an estimated 24 million couples, and streamlining child care tax incentives amounting to a tax cut of up to $3,000 per child.” More

Um, you do realize that we’re going to expect sound WRT the harp, right? I mean we’ll give you a couple of weeks, but we want either an MP3 or a video (with audio) of you playing it.

The evolution of MLK’s image in the conservative consciousness is pretty amazing, ain’t it.

Especially if you lived in the heartland of the US South during the civil rights movement.

The way MLK was characterized, at that time, as a dangerous commie agitator, and how the PTB were freaked out by how successful his non-violent tactics were.

(We’ve jailed them, beat them, and killed some of them, and nothing seems to stop them)

re: #8 Charles Johnson

It’s really, really important to Chuck. I’ve seen him boast about his enormous IQ dozens of times.

What a sad, weird little man. The rest of us figured out somewhere around Grade 8 that being measurably smart doesn’t mean shit if you’re a jackass that nobody wants to be around.
