My guitar sounded like that once — it was the cord shorting out.

I just pulled all of my guitar cases out from under the stairs. Holy crap I have a lot.

I need to get down to one or two guitars max.

I had a friend, a pretty serious guitar amateur guitar player ask me why I had so many bicycles. I just look at him and said “Why do you have 5 guitars?”. His response… “Never mind.”

Pretty rockin’ number, although the “novelty” of the lead guitarist might get old if repeated too much.

Too much for the regular broadcast?

I’m unable to make my mind up which way to go.

I have a Peavey Wolfgang & a Blueridge

Or I can go with a cross between an acoustic & electric with my Ibanez.

Well, I have fulfilled my family obligation of rooting for a sportsball team this year and now only care to the extent that bars will be full on the 1st …which is the day the husband arrives back home from the UK trip. This actually works out in my favor, I think. Less traffic.

Ha, I used to play this little Frank number for my 14 & 15 yr old sons who loved Converse “Chuck Taylors” and wore them to death.

With that, later, Lizards!

Beautiful day today at home. even the usually hard working hummingbirds were relaxing in the sun. Shot with a 400mm lens, then cropped way the heck in.

So anybody remember the name of the guy at the Sunshine Cab Company on Taxi who had vowed never to bathe until Seattle won the Superbowl—this being the most unlikely event that all the minds of all the writers working together could come up with? Now it could happen twice in a row.

Having been born, raised, and lived my whole life in the Seattle area, I’m used to nothing but humiliation in the sportsball arena—I don’t know if I can adjust to it.

Nope, I remember now—the guy’s name was Lupus. It came up when Elaine was trying to figure out who left the poems in her locker (turned out to be Jim), so she’s running through everybody’s name and got to Lupus. Alex says: “The guy who vowed never to bathe till Seattle wins the Superbowl?”

I think we saw Lupus once—he was the guy who played the Mad Turk in that M.A.S.H. episode.

Well, I can see how it sounds creepy to someone who doesn’t know about line life.
You’re reading a completely different meaning, and yes creepy, to the lyrics.
As someone who is married to a lineman, I can tell you for absolute certain that the lyrics really do express the complicated feelings between linework life and family life.
People ask me (and other linewives) all the time how/why we put up with it.

Personally, I love the song because every word of it is true, and there’s no stalker/restraining order message there.

But the verses are all first person.

And I don’t believe he says he’s “listening on the line” at any point of the song - from my recollection of the lyrics, which is usually pretty good. The lines closest to that are in the first verse:

I hear you singin’ in the wire,
I can hear you through the whine

Kind of oblique, but I never took them to mean that he was listening in on someone.

Now explain why the vestal virgins left for the coast.

Wasn’t it just one out of 16?

And so it was that later
As the miller told his tale
That her face, at first just ghostly,
Turned a whiter shade of pale
She said, ‘There is no reason
And the truth is plain to see.’
But I wandered through my playing cards
And would not let her be
One of sixteen vestal virgins
Who were leaving for the coast
And although my eyes were open
They might have just as well’ve been closed

Oddly, of course, Rome only maintained 6 Vestal virgins, and had to strain for that.

I never really thought about those lyrics before, but you’re right - it is a creepy song.

Another creepy song you still hear on the radio: “Young Girl” by Gary Puckett and the Union Gap.

Childhood memory is hearing “Little Girl” by the Beatles. Run for your life if you can little girl…..

Speaking of guitars:

This is the first electric I ever bought. It’s a 1979 The Paul by Gibson. It’s been lying dormant for years; I thought the crack in the neck had finally made it impossible for strings to stay in tune.

I pulled it out last month as I was getting my Strat fixed and figured I’d restring it, just to see what would happen. Lo and behold, the damn thing actually stays in tune. For some reason, the crack didn’t seem as bad as I remembered it.

The electronics need some TLC, but I’m dying to get this thing up and running again.

*stumbles in dazed & disheveled…*

I just spent about 45 minutes following Google down the rabbit hole.

Remember how earlier downstairs I mentioned having predicted the wingnuts trying to tie the #BlackLivesMatter protesters to ISIS? Well, I was way behind, I’m talking like four months late to the party.

On August 19 the right-wing blogs were in a frothing frenzy over someone in Ferguson holding up a hand-lettered sign (alternately described as an “ISIS flag”) proclaiming “ISIS is here”—I think it was on CNN the night before or whatever. If you remember, that was only 9-10 days after Michael Brown had been killed and outside agitators had been arriving in Ferguson and stirring up trouble.

There were also numerous other things going on: the Gaza conflict, ISIS had seized Sinjar in northern Iraq and were doing horrible things to the Yazidis, the war in Donbass between the Russians & Ukrainians had begun, there was the ongoing civil war in Syria, Boko Haram was wreaking its usual havoc in Nigeria, etc. I’d forgotten how much was happening at the time.

Palestinians were giving advice to the protesters about how to deal with tear gas & whatnot, Iran’s president was Tweeting at the U.S. about mistreating protesters—as if…. anyone remember Neda?—and ISIS had jumped on the Twitter bandwagon to unnerve the authorities by inviting people from Ferguson to join them and/or promising that they were coming there.

So that’s pretty much when it all started. I found a few references to Ferguson in the week prior to that, but they were all in the left/right moronic zone where the really mind-bendingly crazy, false flag Alex Jones/David Icke type shit is spawned—y’know like doomsday preppers who were convinced it was the start of martial law and a police state, insane and viciously antisemitic left-wing crazies who blame Israel/Jews for everything, 9/11 truthers, and some that seem to have absorbed ALL the bad crazy and had everything from Oath Keepers to Code Pink on the same blog roll.

I just wanted to let you guys know that that particular CT goes all the way back to the summer, though the more mainstream bloggers & reporters seem to be oblivious to it:

It was just… I can’t even.

That is all.
