We skipped the light fandango

An incredible arrangement that begins with the main theme beautifully stated in a minor key by the string section. I suspect the lead vocal was subtly auto-corrected at a few points, but it’s still a masterful performance from Gary Brooker in a great setting.

Love to see the old rockers hold it together. I think that’s one of the legendary organs, played there.

So my wife said “We used to dance to this” when I started playing it, and the only reply possible was “We still do.

I have this in my bookmarks.
Procol Harum also did “A Salty Dog” (a Backwoods favorite) there, brilliantly.

Thanks for this—my all-time favorite band. I think they didn’t achieve the fame of, say, the Moody Blues (the other symphonic rock band) because of all the Robin Trower crap on their first 3 or 4 albums, but Gary Brooker (and Matthew Fisher, the Hammond organ guy) are among the world’s greatest musicians.

Plus, in the thread below, somebody linked Merilee Rush’s Angel of the Morning! Thank you for not doing the Juice Newton cover that’s all anybody remembers. I started high school the year after Merilee graduated, but she was a big thing: “Shoreline girl makes good.” Never really went anywhere, though. I used to see her at Pier 70, and she was just a fantastic entertainer, but there’s something about it that never recorded…oh well!

Thread’s dead but in case you click by accident this is a much simpler, far more haunting performance of “A Salty Dog”:

From the same set of videos is their Christmas song, “Still There’ll be More”
It starts off with your basic bucolic old world/sixties imagery, and then what did he say??? He’s going to what?
