Sad the style of someone like Andrew Breitbart would be something to be modeled. It should be seen for what it is, bombastic bullshit painted as political news facts be damned.

Even sadder, that people bought in and then spread it as the truth. Just another addition to the Rush, FOX News, Drudge movement of conservative media that was devised to lend truth to the the too-liberal (and Jewish controlled!!! GASP!!!) mass media. It’s all just more muck to add to the mire.

It confirms the view of the world held by a large number of people that we’re one step away from hoards of people taking everything away from people that work hard. It doesn’t actually have to be the truth, because the fact that there hasn’t actually been an attack just means that one is coming.

Watching Inherit The Wind on TCM. Funny how much it mirrors the climate science debate today.

We haven’t progressed as much as we should have in the last century when it comes to science v. religion.

Apropos of nothing, Dr Lizardo’s video pick of the week is the 2003 South Korean film Memories Of Murder, directed by Bong Joon-ho, and based on the real-life (and unsolved) Hwaseong serial murders.

This is one of the best films I’ve ever seen in the police procedural genre from anywhere in the world, bar none; the acting, screenplay, directing and pacing are all top-notch, with a few scenes - including one scene in a rice paddy - that almost made me jump right the hell outta my skin.

This weekend I’ve been binge watching season 2 of The Americans

In other news, my timing on taking out the trash was perfect. A Muslim neighbor from upstairs saw me dragging the bags out my door and he said, “Don’t worry, sis—I’ll take them down for you.”

Woohoo! How nice was that? ;-)

One more, them I’m gonna go watch videos. Emphasis mine:

America Has a Tiger Problem And No One’s Sure How to Solve It

Clayton James Eller loved going to his aunt’s house in Millers Creek, North Carolina, where he got to visit Tigger, her 317-pound pet Bengal tiger. One December day in 2003, ten-year-old C.J. was shoveling snow near Tigger’s outdoor pen when the animal attacked him from an opening in the chain-link fence and dragged him under. C.J.’s uncle grabbed his rifle and shot the tiger, but the boy died before he reached the hospital.

Tiger attacks in the United States are always dramatic news—there were 27 reported between 1990 and 2006, with seven people and most of the tigers killed. But maulings aren’t the only problem arising from the perhaps surprising fact that there are more captive tigers in the U.S. than there are wild tigers on earth. […]

Un-freaking-believable.

OK, checking through my BookBub Deals of the Day, I think I have found a contender for a book possibly even worse than that Voyage of Dead libertarian wetdream zombie book I reported on last week.

This one is Tumultus by D.W. Ulsterman. He has a bunch of gungho military fantasist stuff including something called Mac Walker’s Benghazi (which is pretty much about what your first impression would be, based on the title alone).
Anyway, the blurb for Tumultus is “In the future, Americans are no longer free — but they’re still brave. Does the Texas Resistance have any chance against the sinister New United Nations? An action-packed thriller about the fight for freedom.” It also includes some kind of “mysterious priest” (this Ulsterman guy also writes about the evil Illuminati in our government…)
I just know it’s gonna be gawd-awful, but it’s like a massive burning trainwreck that I’ll slow down for a chapter or so before I toss it.

Ugh.

“Ugh” is right. When a party comes into power with one of its new governors spouting an anti-Semitic conspiracy theory that is Todd Akin-level stupid, you know that there’s gonna be trouble.

Sheesh, I went to google how many Jews live in Greece and came across this—looks like they’re getting it from both sides:

Greek official refutes charge that Jews don’t pay taxes

ATHENS, Greece (JTA) — A Greek government official has been forced to clarify that Greek Jews do pay taxes and have the same obligations as every citizen.

“Greek citizens of Jewish faith pay their tax normally like all Greeks and do not enjoy any exemption or extra burden because of their religion,” said Giorgos Kalantzis, the Education Ministry’s general secretary for religion.

Last month, right-wing politician Panos Kammenos said in a television interview that Jews don’t pay taxes. […]

From what I’ve read, the problem is that a lot of people in Greece view taxes as ‘voluntary’ at best, and a large percentage don’t pay, or live on the underground cash economy.

If it was just that, I wouldn’t worry too much, but if you click on the link in my #22 you’ll see a bunch of other recent crap. Scary for the Jews living there.

That’s one of the big differences between Greece and Italy and ‘Anglo’ nations such as the US and Canada: Our tax collection systems are a good bit more effective and are much harder to evade.

Well, except that the House voted to slash funding for the IRS. So it should be easier to evade taxes now, shouldn’t it?

And by CBO estimates, the $1B cuts to the IRS will result in $2B lost in collections.
