AEI Scholar: End Obamacare, and if People Die, So What?

Freakishly awful
Weird • Views: 27,067

Rarely will you see the inhuman heartlessness of the conservative viewpoint so well expressed as in this freakishly horrible piece by American Enterprise Institute “scholar” Michael Strain: End Obamacare, and People Could Die. That’s Okay.

It’s difficult to know where to start with a morally perverted piece like this. His point seems to be that we make moral tradeoffs all the time, not exactly an original thought. But Strain gives away his game with this paragraph:

How do policymakers decide such things? In the deepest sense, every human life is inestimably valuable. But in a fallen world where trade-offs are inevitable, public policy can’t treat each life that way.

In his position of great privilege, Strain obviously thinks of himself as a righteous “pro-life” Christian. But he’s quite literally advocating that if they get sick, people less privileged than himself should just … die.

At least he’s honest about not giving a fuck about the lowly peons. I can respect that more than I can respect pretending to care about people while supporting legislation that would remove their healthcare/human rights/ability to vote/ability to marry because FREE MARKET JESUS and/or Daddy told me so.

And in a fallen world, it’s better if they die, then they have a chance for a better life in Heaven. Unless, of course, they are Muslims, or Buddhists, or Jews, or Hindu, or a flavor of Christianity that you don’t agree with. And forget the Atheists and Agnostics, they are going to burn anyhow, so who cares. /complete_his_thought_process

Conservatives like to pretend that there were multitude of affordable health care options available to all, no matter what their income, before Obama cruelly took them away. That’s part of the gospel now and you’ll play hell persuading them otherwise.

One of the greatest aspects of ancient Greek civilization was the persistent belief that there was nothing women liked better to do than assemble a gang, air their tits out, and roam the countryside beating men to death. This was, sadly, a myth, but it did not stop generations of European painters from imagining what savage bands of female murderesses might have looked like.

And even if it was, SS and Medicare are “going broke,” and if they’re not we’ll jigger with the rules until they are so we can scare the shit out of the AARP crowd.

By their belief in the total infallibility of the free market, this is the corner Republicans have logically backed themselves into: If the free market dictates you must die, then you must die. BUT… all pregnancies must result in birth and nobody but nobody should be allowed to die with dignity. There’s an incompatibility between the Republican Jesus and the Republican free market, and they can’t see it.

Local residents said that the initial attack happened when the terrorists that the villagers described as Boko Haram came into town on motorcycles. I am wondering if kale is like cilantro. I love it but my best friends (both) and my husband find it really bitter and anything that has even a smattering of cilantro isn’t edible to them. I don’t taste bitter in cilantro in the least. But I find kale really bitter.

Maybe there is something inside of us that makes this happen with certain foods?

If this is true, it’s big news - ISIS has been pushed out of Kobani.

Kurdish fighters backed by intense U.S.-led airstrikes pushed the Islamic State group entirely out of a key Syrian town on Monday, marking a major defeat for the extremists whose hopes for an easy victory when they pushed into Kobani last year dissolved into a bloody, costly and months-long siege.

As their victory neared, the Kurdish troops earlier in the day raised their flag on a hill overlooking the town just across the border with Turkey, replacing the Islamic State group’s black banner.

The battlefield success is a major conquest both for Syria’s embattled Kurds and the U.S.-led coalition, whose American coordinator had predicted that the Islamic State group would “impale itself” on Kobani.

news.yahoo.com

I read somewhere - I’ve forgotten now, perhaps I’ll have to ask Sheikh Efendi - that there was a hadith regarding Kobani, also known as Ayn al-Arab, and that ISIS’ leadership had concluded that if that hadith turned out to be false, than perhaps their own raison d’etre was false as well. They basically pinned everything on that hadith.

And now that prophecy has failed. I guess we’ll see what happens next.

She refuses to eat most everything, but she still loves chicken. I buy a roasted chicken at Meijer every week to feed her. As soon as I walk through the door, I eat all the skin on top. Quinoa is something I can feed to my diabetic husband…I use it in place of rice in a lot of recipes. It picks up the taste of whatever you’re cooking (much like tofu). I use tons of spices so everyone tolerates whatever I make even if it is normally tasteless on its own (like tofu).

I think it would make a great “rice” pudding, too.

You make kugel with noodles. Also potatoes.

None of that other fancy shmancy stuff.

That’s special. They want to go to a place that will likely be uninhabitable in the upcoming decades due to global warming. Ok. I say go for it. Who’s going to clean your houses? Work in your restaurants? Do all the “tote that barge, lift that bale” stuff.

Idiots.

I keep trying and trying to like kale but I can’t. I’ve sauteed it. I’ve baked it. I put it in salads. I know how good it is supposed to be but I cannot get over the taste. Blech.

We were at a restaurant in NYC last week that served fried kale as an appetizer.

The fried part was cool. Still not feeling the taste, though. My vegetarian wife, however, loved it.

And well they should. These are the ones who at least understand the concept of cause and effect, which is more than we can say for smug, arrogant, “let ‘em die” types like this Strain character.

As I have pointed out before, FDR didn’t create the New Deal out of fuzzy minded altruism (since he was well aware he was using other people’s money). He did it to head off the kind of totalitarian revolution that was sweeping through the rest of the world in those days. The GOP free- market absolutists do not think it can happen here. It hasn’t happened because we have had leaders with the wisdom not to let it happen. That may change if these GOP idiocrats gain control.

Not by bread alone: Russians urged to go without for Putin

Last week lawmaker Ilya Gaffner was monitoring price hikes at a grocery store in the Urals city of Yekaterinburg when an elderly woman told him she could no longer afford sugar for her disabled son.

His advice to her? Eat less.

“If there is not enough money you have to remember that we are Russians, we survived hunger and cold, we have to think about our health and eat less,” said the deputy in the Sverdlovsk region legislative chamber, who sports a double chin.

It was mentioned in your link that they’d probably do that if they could. My question is, unless the civil unrest is very brief and put down completely without destroying society, what are they going to be able to buy with their money?

Is Kasha in a varnish? That stuff is nasty.

“Kasha varnishkas” is a side dish made with kasha (buckwheat groats) and bow-tie pasta.

Zedushka all of a sudden decided he loves barley and kasha because his mother made him eat it when he was a kid.

I can stand barley when it’s in a soup, but kasha just makes me gag.

And quinoa has a weird texture. My daughter made it in a salad. I thought it was couscous but then ewwwww.

Great reaction by Addison Baker!

“There are limits to the proper amount of scarce resources, funded by taxpayers, that Washington should redirect toward health care.”

And because Strain, a conservative Republican, makes that offer, it’s considered reasonable and rational. BUT WE ALL KNOW PERFECTLY WELL that if a Democrat (or, God forbid, Obama) made that very same argument, the Republiscum would be screaming and whining about “Death Panels”.

It’s time to face the UNDENIABLE truth: Republicans are hypocritical dirtbags. No reasonable, decent American, with a healthy respect for honesty and truth-telling in politics, should pay attention to ANYTHING the Republiscum have to say on this subject (or any other subject, for that matter).

But that would call for an end to the corruption, cronyism and bureaucratic sclerosis that still grips the country.

I ran Mbam on it and it found 2523 objects either related to or infected with malware.

Me: Your Exchange server has been hijacked. All of your servers and workstations have been infected with compromised .dlls that will simply reinstall malicious software as soon as the machine is rebooted.
Potential Client: You can fix it, right?
Me: Sure. I’ll have to clean up and reconfigure your router, back up all of your data to a secure machine and then scrub it, do a low level format on all of the hard disks and write zeros to every sector for safety’s sake, then rebuild all of the machines and restore the data. No two of them are alike so I’ll have to rebuild them one at a time.
Potential Client: That’s a relief! So, say, five hundred bucks for the job? And you can do it overnight, right?

I notice they and Palin quoted Dr. King’s line “that a man cannot ride your back unless it is bent. Pretty much. When I gave him my bid he became angry and told me that his “computer guy” would take care of everything. Two weeks later he called me again and he was desperate but, not desperate enough to pay full price. I told him that he could either pony up or look for someone else (The job was a referral from another client). He agreed and I made him sign a contract because I figured that he would try to stiff me once the work was done.

Sad thing is I know enough non-religious conservatives and “independents” who cop this same attitude of “People are going to die, deal with it.”

When I’m dealing with these people I find it very hard not to demonstrate to them that Death is a great deal less discriminatory than they believe it is.

254 Fourth Football of the Apocalypse  Jan 26, 2015 3:30:04pm
In a world of scarce resources, a slightly higher mortality rate is an acceptable price to pay for certain goals — including more cash for other programs, such as those that help the poor; less government coercion and more individual liberty; more health-care choice for consumers, allowing them to find plans that better fit their needs; more money for taxpayers to spend themselves; and less federal health-care spending.

But why are Republican leaders such pussies by pulling the No Abortion Pain Bill what about saving all the babies?!?!?!?!?!??!!??!

Why is it that those most opposed to Marx do their best to prove he was right about capitalism?
