Did Louie or anyone in his party say anything close to this when George H.W Bush’s Secretary of State actually made Anti-Semitiic remarks when referring to Jewish voters. Oh wait this outrage is only because it’s Obama and he’s not doing everything Bibi says. Great allies you got here in America, Bibi, but you don’t give a shit do you because you care more about coddling up to them than actually working with President Obama to find actual solutions.

I won’t listen to Louie, but the logic is probably as follows: God said he will bless those who bless Israel and curse those who curse Israel, so by not kissing Bibi’s ass Obama is acting against Israel (whose leader Bibi is, after all), so that’s why God will punish America.

11 lawhawk  Jan 26, 2015 7:25:11pm

Netanyahu may currently be Prime Minister, but his position is anything but secure; elections are upcoming in March and his party is behind in the polls.

You’ve got former Ambassador Michael Oren chastizing Bibi for the trip.

You’ve got the Mossad undermining Bibi’s claims as well.

So, Bibi is hardly the be-all/end-all.

But the GOP has latched on to Bibi’s take on events in the ME, and more importantly, that he doesn’t have the friendliest relationship with Obama personally. So, if Bibi loses and the next PM is Issac Herzog and the FM is Tzivi Livni, things will get a whole lot friendlier, and the GOP will be grasping at straws on what was already a BS premise (that Obama was no friend to Israel).

The gears in Gohmerts head need grease. How so much wrong can reside in such a small space as his braincell wasteland of a fugly skull is a mystery for the pros. So before I lay my tired self down, let me leave you with this gem.Video

God only punishes the wicked. The devil torments the true believer. And you can tell which side you are on because if you believe in your heart you are following Jesus, then God would be showing favor on you except for the Devil.

The fact that an omnipotent being allows a lesser one to torment His followers just shows how benevolent He is.

Sam Smith on Tom Petty Settlement: ‘Similarities’ But ‘Complete Coincidence’

Over the weekend, The Sun reported that Sam Smith had quietly and amicably settled a copyright dispute with Tom Petty over the likeness between Smith’s three-time Grammy-nominated “Stay With Me” and Petty’s Full Moon Fever hit “I Won’t Back Down,” co-written with ELO’s Jeff Lynne. In a statement to Rolling Stone, Smith’s reps have confirmed that “Stay With Me” is now co-credited to Petty and Lynne, adding that while there are undeniable “similarities” between the two singles, it was a “complete coincidence.”

This youtube user doesn’t a hellva job showing the similarities between the songs after you pitch up Sam Smith and pitch down Tom Petty and then match the tempos:

It’s still shaping up to be a rather impressive storm, just a little more north and east than originally forecast. Every reliable forecaster I saw acknowledged there was considerable uncertainty about exactly what path it was going to take. Better to hunker down for something that underwhelms than to be taken by surprise by something that overwhelms, no?

re: #60 Belafon

I understand where you’re coming from, but the local forecasters had no business making the forecasts they did. If this had been a storm that came up the coast from the south, I could understand. If it had been expected to stall, I could understand. But in this case, the storm wasn’t forecasted to form until it had already passed us. There is very little precedent for that kind of storm to dump much snow here.

Fact is that Bibi had shitty relationships with Bush Sr, Jim Baker, Hillary and Bill Clinton, and now Obama. Far shittier relations than most of our former presidents and secrataries of state have had with any other recent Israeli PMs.

That doesn’t prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that Netanyahu is the problem, but it’s pretty strong evidence.

Anyway, it’s also all one big charade. Obama’s got enough votes to prevent Congress from overriding any veto he may opt for in response to a bill for more sanctions. And the whole deal with Iran may well fall apart by the summer anyway. As both Kerry and Obama have said repeatedly, the negotiations with Iran are fragile and may well fail. But we at least have to make the effort when the alternative is yet another mid east war.

And why is this not treasonous, but when Dems even suggested the French might be right about Iraq (but never going so far as to invite Chirac to speak to Congress) they were labeled anti-American, traitors, freedom haters, etc, etc?

Hillary is probably next on the hate list. They are going to lose their freaking minds if she runs.

If she wins, I really think it will mean some sort of war. The right wing mind has quite a bit in common with a pressure cooker - I know, I used to consider myself “conservative” - and there are quite a few people out there who may collectively blow their tops if faced with a Hillary presidency. I don’t see Civil War 2, but probably a lot more shootings, posses forming, country ranches declaring themselves sovereign, things like that. Low-level terrorism by Nathan Bedford Forrest wannabes, maybe.

The modern Hate Machine has its roots in Billy’s tenure, and we all know that now it’s fully funded, networked, and connected. Hillary winning in 2016 would be like the sky opening and the many-headed beast coming out, or whatever the fuck their loony book says.

I like the new LGF avi, Banjo is such a mensch dog! I notice the low water, the “bathtub ring” as it were.

And there’s no fucking snow in the Sierras. That shit sucks.

It’ll be 70 degrees in Denver tomorrow. Probably mid 40s at most of the ski areas and bluebird sunny skies in Colorado, that shit melts snow.

We lost the High Traverse and the bowls along the northern ridge last week. All of our side country stuff is now unskiable. We’ll shut down another chair in a week. I kind of wish they’d just shut the mountain down until the snow falls so I could focus on golfing every weekend as I have been - only without the guilt.

That pic with Banjo is a few years old…Shasta Lake in my brother’s patio boat. I’ve got more gray hair now. :) but it’s getting longer as I’m going full hippie for a while - fuck it, I’m 50 now. Beats going bald like most of the guys my age.

So apparently Drew Curtis is running for Governor of Kentucky, on an Independent “Citizen’s Movement” ticket with his wife as running mate.

The 41-year-old Curtis is part the Citizen Candidate movement in which members pledge to make “data-driven” choices without party affiliation, which they argue makes them not beholden to special interest money.

I’m sorry, no. Don’t think that guy should be allowed anywhere near government. His whole both sides are equally bad triangulation of a faux moderate impartiality absolutely ruined his website. For a long time he actually tried to code a bias gauge display at the top of the Politics tabs, so that story links would be tagged as either “commie” or “fascist” and the overall balance displayed. It was one of the saddest exercises in false equivalence I’ve ever witnessed, and was widely panned. Nevertheless it stayed up for a very long time.

Dude. That just totally bummed me out. Brought back the smug lectures from the nuns in grade school. The Illuminati (plural of Latin illuminatus, “enlightened”) is a name given to several groups, both real and fictitious. Historically, the name refers to the Bavarian Illuminati, an Enlightenment-era secret society founded on May 1, 1776. The society’s goals were to oppose superstition, obscurantism, religious influence over public life and abuses of state power. “The order of the day,” they wrote in their general statutes, “is to put an end to the machinations of the purveyors of injustice, to control them without dominating them.”[1] The Illuminati—along with Freemasonry and other secret societies—were outlawed through Edict, by the Bavarian ruler, Charles Theodore, with the encouragement of the Roman Catholic Church, in 1784, 1785, 1787 and 1790.[2] In the several years following, the group was vilified by conservative and religious critics who claimed that they continued underground and were responsible for the French Revolution.

Nothing new under the sun, eh.

And then we have Nesta Webster

Nesta Helen Webster (Mrs. Arthur Webster), (24 August 1876 - 16 May 1960) was a controversial author who revived conspiracy theories about the Illuminati.[1][2][3][4] She argued that the secret society’s members were occultists, plotting communist world domination,[3] using the idea of a Jewish cabal,[5] the Masons and Jesuits[6] as a smokescreen.[3] According to her, their international subversion included the French Revolution, 1848 Revolution, the First World War, and the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917.[7]

In 1920, Webster was one of the contributing authors who wrote The Jewish Peril, a series of articles in the London Morning Post centred on the Protocols of the Elders of Zion.[8][9] These articles were subsequently compiled and published in the same year in book form under the title of The Cause of World Unrest.[10] Webster claimed that the authenticity of the Protocols of the Elders of Zion was an “open question”.[11]

n 1919 Webster published The French Revolution: a Study in Democracy where she claimed that a secret conspiracy had prepared and carried out the French Revolution. As she said in her book, “The lodges of the German Freemasons and Illuminati were thus the source whence emanated all those anarchic schemes which culminated in the Terror,[17] and it was at a great meeting of the Freemasons in Frankfurt-am-Main, three years before the French Revolution began, that the deaths of Louis XVI and Gustavus III of Sweden were first planned.”

She had a wide readership. Winston Churchill praised her in a 1920 article entitled “Zionism versus Bolshevism: A Struggle for the Soul of the Jewish People,”[18][19] in which he asserted, “This movement among the Jews is not new. From the days of Spartacus-Weishaupt to those of Karl Marx, and down to Trotsky (Russia), Bela Kun (Hungary), Rosa Luxembourg (Germany), and Emma Goldman (United States), this world-wide conspiracy for the overthrow of civilisation and for the reconstitution of society on the basis of arrested development, of envious malevolence, and impossible equality, has been steadily growing. It played, as a modern writer, Mrs. Webster, has so ably shown, a definitely recognisable part in the tragedy of the French Revolution.”[20]

Webster also published Secret Societies and Subversive Movements, The Need for Fascism in Great Britain,[21] the Menace of Communism (with Mrs. Katherine Atkinson) and The Origin and Progress of the World Revolution. In the latter book, published in 1921, she wrote: “What mysteries of iniquity would be revealed if the Jew, like the mole, did not make a point of working in the dark! Jews have never been more Jews than when we tried to make them men and citizens.”[22] In her books, Webster argued that Bolshevism was part of a much older and more secret, self-perpetuating conspiracy. She described three possible sources for this conspiracy: Zionism, Pan-Germanism, or “the occult power.” She stated that she leaned towards Zionism as the most likely culprit of the three. She also claimed that even if the Protocols were fake, they still describe how Jews behave.[23]”

Webster became involved in several right-wing groups including the British Fascists,[5] the Anti-Socialist Union, The Link, and the British Union of Fascists.[24] She was also the leading writer of “The Patriot”, an anti-Semitic paper,[25] Webster dismissed much of the persecution of the Jews by Nazi Germany as exaggeration and propaganda.[26]

Pretty much all modern Illuminati bullshit can be traced back to this Nazi loving hack and her supporters

I recall in the winter of 2009/2010, the Berlin police were picking up the homeless and dropping them off at hostels and telling the managers to bill the city of Berlin. It was done as a temporary measure, because even daytime temps were hovering only around 1 or 2 F.

Berlin has quite a few homeless shelters, but they were getting overloaded during that cold snap (January/February 2010) so the Mayor authorized the police to pick up the homeless and get them somewhere warm, and if that meant dropping them off at a hostel, then have that establishment send a bill to the city.

At least that’s what I recall hearing from Berliners after the fact.

TV rec — “Sons of Liberty” on History Channel. 6 hour mini series. I’m really enjoying it. (starts in 1773, Sam Adams and John Hancock are the lead characters, John Adams and Benjamin Franklin are supporting characters)… hour 4 just finished, with Lexington and Concord just starting.

My first exposure to Sons of Liberty was an article my news aggregator pulled up. Written by an American historian he did not have nice things to say about it. Very historically inaccurate.

I also note that it makes no mention of one of The Coercive Acts; The Quebec Act. The colonists hated it. The Act allowed Quebecois working for the government to remain Roman Catholics and it made clear that a great deal of land belonged to Quebec. This pissed off a lot of people, including Washington, because they were planning to get rich selling that land.

Yes, a major goad of The Revolution was Parliament preventing the colonists from taking away other people’s rights and land. Like the Trail of Tears it’s a bit of history pretty much forgotten by the general public.

Speaking of Churchill’s article: not only he left no “high” or “middle” antisemitic trope unused (he didn’t stoop the the “low” blood libel), this passage has reminded me of something:

Duty of Loyal Jews.
It is particularly important in these circumstances that the national Jews in every country who are loyal to the land of their adoption should come forward on every occasion, as many of them in England have already done, and take a prominent part in every measure for combating the Bolshevik conspiracy. In this way they will be able to vindicate the honour of the Jewish name and make it clear to all the world that the Bolshevik movement is not a Jewish movement, but is repudiated vehemently by the great mass of the Jewish race.

Well, it wasn’t just about land. It was also that the act did not institute an elected legislative assembly in Quebec, such as all the other colonies had. This causes Colonial Americans to fear that Parliament and King George III ultimately intended to abolish all colonial legislatures.

A DERPy point of concern was that the Quebec Act also allowed for the return of Jesuit priests to the province. This caused a number of ZOMG, teh Papist Infiltrators!!1 reactions in New England.

Two thoughts:

1. Our allies in Iraq are far better than ISIS, but when it comes to Jews most of them are still pretty hate-filled.

2. It’s important to remember that this sort of rabid Jew-hatred is not inherent to Islam or to Arabs, but rather is the product of social and political pathologies of the Middle East. It can be ended while leaving Islam fully extant.

Well, that was anti-climatic. Went to sleep after snowblowing about 3-4 inches. Woke up, and see almost 4-5 inches more that I’ll have to clear off. That’s about half what they had expected here. The storm simply went further East than expected.

It means roads and everything else will be cleared that much faster, but people will inevitably complain that everything got shut down over nothing.

For those out on LI, it’s a different story. They got hammered. The further East you go, the higher the snow totals. Figuring about 8-12 inches total for NYC, depending on where you go.

Does Your Church Decide Your College Education?

Christians who believe the Bible is literally the Word of God are, researchers know, less likely to earn bachelor’s degrees than their less religious peers. A new study goes a step further: even for those who don’t buy that everything from Genesis to Revelations actually happened, attending church with others who do still decreases the odds of graduating from college.

Education = Freedom

Two of the tenets of Classical Conservatism that I can agree with is that people should have freedom to choose and that they should take more responsibility for their own actions.

But in order to do that, they need to be informed about what they are doing. Especially regarding sex and reproduction.

But when it comes to sex, the Modern Conservative viewpoint is t hat people should be free to follow the Bible and that young people should remain uninformed about their bodies.

Correction made.

Those two cases speak less to a need for sex-ed and more towards more effective policing to detect and punish those who run prostitution and human trafficking organizations. Note that I aim at those who run such groups, not those who are trapped by them.

Here’s the thing. How do we find out about the criminals if the victims don’t know they are victims. How can they report or ask for help if they don’t know they have been brainwashed and raped?

Comprehensive Sex Ed in school is often the only way kids learn the law.

Young wife was raised by a hard-shell Baptist. I got my sex education from nuns and priests. Yet we groped our way through the problem in record time.

My wife’s stepfather was a monster. If he wasn’t already dead I would have made it my life’s ambition to hunt the man down and peel his skin from his flesh. When my wife reached out for help she wasn’t believed because stepfather was “A good, Christian man.”

Then she married a man (not me) whose idea of fun was beating her. She managed to escape, and he murdered the brother of his next girlfriend. Gutted him like a deer. Pled down to 2nd degree murder. Got out three years ago.

I don’t find Freddy or Jason scary because there are far, far worse monsters out there and they often get away with it.

‘Even if it worked, I would oppose it’
But on the substance of Carson’s remarks, one thing jumped out at me.

the Affordable Care Act - which Carson has on several occasions compared to slavery - the famous former surgeon said he opposed any government intrusion in health care. “Even if it worked, I would oppose it,” Carson said of Obamacare. “It doesn’t.”

“I don’t believe in taking the most important thing a person has, which is their health and their health care, and putting it in the hands of the government,” he later added….

For a brief argument in a speech, there’s quite a bit to this. We know, for example, that Carson’s mistaken when he says the Affordable Care Act isn’t working; the evidence to the contrary is simply overwhelming. We also know that when it comes to his preferred model, Carson used to believe largely the opposite of what he’s arguing now.

Reporting on Armed White Teens Highlights Racial Double Standard

If the story had revolved around two Black teens, the kind of headlines used would play out very differently. The public would no doubt have read about “thugs” and “criminals,” with other choice and highly racialized language used to describe the two teens and the series of events that led to the initial truck theft. The media even popped in for a jailhouse interview, turning Hayes into a virtual celebrity. The two white teens got the kid glove treatment in the media, highlighting a racial double standard when it comes to how criminal news is reported in the United States; white criminals, and white crime, are treated very differently from people of color. If all races are created equal, newsrooms have a funny way of showing it.

Gohmert and Inhofe - while we may like to think of them as unique I propose that in reality they are representing their constituencies quite well.

Here’s a term I propose to use - DDoR - Distributed Denial of Reality.

We practice this in our culture to a great extent. I suppose there are many reasons for this.

Anyway, the phenomenon is this: multiple humans squawk ceaselessly meaningless or misleading assertions to the rest of their society, to keep the others in the society from receiving valid information and to encourage the rest of the squawkers to continue their DDoR by giving mutual support for the cause.

In South Jersey it’s been a bust, as FF Leader alluded to earlier. Looks like about 1.5 inches out there.

Late last night, my brother posted that the Weather Channel was calling for one inch for Philly, to much disbelief. Every other service was calling for 6-12”.

If you do a real short look at population and employment demographics in the US it’s real obvious that the 92 million number is some sort of convoluted reach. And that’s before you start down the rabbit hole about whether to use the U3, U5 or U6 definition for unemployment numbers.

A quick BOE calculation is that the US has about 219 million people between the age of 15 and 64. If 92 million of them are unemployed we therefore have a *massively* productive society since 127 million are supporting our 320 million population.

So therefore we need to gut the child labor laws?

I wonder if Cruz takes into consideration the numbers of people who work “under the table” There are a lot more than you think, from construction to house cleaners to “consultants” who get paid in cash.

There are also other ways people get money for short periods of time as well as people who don’t want to keep their nose to the grindstone and would rather work for fewer hours or for enough to pay bills and get by so there’s time to do other things.

I know people like these, and they’re neither lazy nor “unemployed”.

bigstory.ap.org

WASHINGTON (AP) — Unemployment rates fell in 42 U.S. states last month, the latest sign that strong hiring is boosting job opportunities nationwide.

“The Labor Department said Tuesday that rates rose in just four states last month and were unchanged in four others.

“Job gains remained healthy in states with large oil and gas industries, suggesting that plunging oil prices have yet to cause significant layoffs. Texas gained 45,700 jobs in December, the most in the nation. Overall, 41 states gained jobs, while nine said they had lost jobs.” More

For perspective, a single F-22 cost $150 million when brand new in 2009. We’ve 187 of the damned things, which spend most of their time sitting in hangers. For the price of a single F-22, we could have insured 3,000 Americans.

LOL. That place totally blew my mind when I was little kid - my family and I used to drive by it quite often, and one time my dad stopped across the street from it so I could get a closer look at it. A remarkable building, to say the least and one of favorites in the L.A. area.

I also remember going to the Brown Derby on Vine Street when I was a kid - that was pretty interesting. Also visited the Formosa Cafe and when I was older, the Frolic Room. :D

GWHB imposed the Madrid Conference on Israel - trying to get peace between Israel and Palestinians imposed from the outside.

Didn’t work.

Backchannel negotiations did work and as a result, the Oslo Accords were agreed upon in 1993. Subsequent negotiations led to Wye Conference and other security arrangements. That laid out the groundwork for a future peace deal - that would be negotiated between Israel and the PA.

Everything else is still posturing.

If what I have read is correct, Bergdahl’s own testimony is about all that would convict him. I hope that he has a very good lawyer. That the Army is charging him with desertion rather than dereliction of duty suggests that it believes that it has a case. If he did desert I would wonder where the hell he intended to go and how the hell he thought he’d get there. Regardless, if he is convicted then forfeiture of pay, reduction in rate - not rank, he’s Enlisted - and a less-than-honorable discharge is fair.

Haven’t seen American Sniper, but the discussion of it makes me think of the movie Red Dawn. In that movie, America is invaded (by Cuba and Russia in the 1984 version, by North Korea (North Korea!!!) in the most recent version), and American “insurgents” launch guerilla style attacks against the occupying power. The American insurgents in Red Dawn were something like Iraqi insurgents in that they were attacking the occupying power. So maybe the next Red Dawn should include a NK sniper who kills the American “savages” who are trying to kill NK troops. I wonder how Dana would feel about that?

FLASHBACK: Republicans on Sgt. Bergdahl: Then & Now

Sarah Palin in July 2009:

“Todd and I are praying for Private First Class Bowe Bergdahl, his family, and all of his fellow soldiers who are putting their lives on the line to defend our freedom and protect democracy abroad,” Governor Palin said. “The capture of Private Bergdahl and the bombings in Jakarta prove that we have not defeated terrorism, and that radical extremists will stop at nothing to attack Westerners and our ideals.”

Former Rep. Allen West (R-FL) in ” December, 2013

“Then there is Army SGT Bowe Bergdahl still held by the Islamic terrorist Haqqani network, probably in Pakistan, in the same place where Osama Bin Laden was hiding. This past POW/MIA national day of recognition, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel reiterated a pledge to secure the young Army NCO being held captive, but have there been any actions? Any time, attention, or even mention from the Commander-in-Chief? Nah, no camera highlights in it for him.” December, 2013

Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) in February, 2014

“I would support. Obviously I’d have to know the details, but I would support ways of bringing him home, and if exchange was one of them, I think that would be something I think we should seriously consider.”

Dim Jim Hoft in Oct 213

Sgt. Bowe Robert Bergdahl was captured by the Taliban in 2009 in Afghanistan. Four months ago, his family in Idaho received a letter from their son through the Red Cross. He was still alive. But sadly it looks like Barack Obama is going to leave US POW Sgt. Bowe Robert Bergdahl behind.

Anchor Baby Malkin in July 2009

“My prayers are with the family of Pfc. Bowe Bergdahl, the U.S. soldier seen on the Taliban abduction video released this weekend. The Jawa Report has the full clip. All Americans should hope and pray for his release from jihadi custody.

I started reading this book, Blood and Politics: The History of the White Nationalist Movement from the Margins to the Mainstream.

It was written in 2009. The preface & prequel were kinda long, but interesting, then I got to Chapter 1, which covers 1974-86. The very first part was about The Turner Diaries, which I’d read about but never had the desire to actually read.

The very first paragraph nearly made me fall out of bed. I was totally gob smacked because it described exactly what’s going on right now with the right-wing. In fact, the first page and a half had my head spinning so badly that I had to put the book down for the night. Here are the parts that got me. Added emphasis is mine:

The fictional story line starts with a multiracial government, guarded by the so-called Equality Police and oppressing white people— stealing the virtue of white women and reducing white men to powerless obeisance. Money-hungry conservatives, interested only in the bottom line, sell out the alleged interests of white people. […]

When the protagonist shot Jewish merchants and the black Equality Police, National Alliance members could fantasize a victorious conclusion to their long travail. While the worldview of white supremacists seemed to outsiders like a vision of madmen, it should be remembered that fantasy has a role in any social movement, and this one was not an exception. The prospect of victory, even novelized victory, was so much sweeter than the real-life abyss they had experienced during the early 1970s. […]

[Here, we get into straight-up terrorist territory—the exact same strategy being used by groups like AQ & ISIS.]

In this book’s logic, terrorism also has strategic value. Well-placed bombs and assassinations are intended to provoke a police state response by the government and thereby alienate middle-of-the-road Americans from the System. Then they will be pushed into the ranks of the Aryan army. […]

—Zeskind, Leonard (2010-04-01). Blood and Politics: The History of the White Nationalist Movement from the Margins to the Mainstream (pp. 29-30). Macmillan. Kindle Edition.

While it’s obvious that there’s been some racism going on, I had no idea that the right’s strategy comes straight out of the pages of a white supremacist’s wet dream in book form. Un-freaking-beleivable.

THIS. The book was somehow scarier though. Maybe because of the way Kings describes things and then your imagination fill in the rest. *shudder*
