AFA “Repudiates” Chief Spokesman’s Racist and Anti-Gay Statements Before Hosting Israel Trip for RNC

Wingnuts • Views: 21,146

In a followup to the American Family Association’s “repudiation” of raving hate-monger Bryan Fischer, the Southern Poverty Law Center reports that they received a letter from the AFA trying to distance themselves from Fischer’s racist and anti-gay statements.

The SPLC isn’t buying it, and neither should anyone else. The AFA is simply trying to save face and maintain their connections to the Republican Party, because their extremist bigotry has finally gotten some media attention; and Fischer is far from the only hate-spewing loon in this organization.

The repudiation of Bryan Fischer’s statements came just two days before members of the Republican National Committee (RNC) are scheduled to embark on a trip to Israel sponsored by the AFA.

Last week, the SPLC wrote to all 168 members of the RNC urging them not to accompany the AFA on the trip because of the group’s long track record of bigotry and hate. The SPLC has named the AFA as a hate group due to its history of making false, demonizing statements about the LGBT community, including Fischer’s contention that gay men were responsible for the Holocaust.

SPLC President Richard Cohen, in a letter to the AFA today (see below), wrote that “it’s difficult to see the AFA’s disavowal as anything other than an effort to quell the negative press attention you’re receiving in connection with your sponsorship of an all-expenses-paid trip to Israel for members of the Republican National Committee.”

Fischer has claimed, for example, that black people “rut like rabbits”; that the First Amendment applies only to Christians; that Hispanics are “socialists by nature” and come to the U.S. to “plunder” the country; that Muslims should not be permitted to build mosques in the United States; that an underground railroad is needed to protect children from gay parents; and more.

Well, this is nauseating and I really feel it’s completely in line with the topic of this thread as it’s those like Fischer that drive these bigots to consider themselves “G-d fearing”.

rawstory.com

Angry conservative protesters disrupted the Texas Muslim Capitol Day celebration in Austin on Thursday, repeatedly shouting “No Sharia” and screaming “Go home.”

The celebration was organized by the Texas chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, and according to their website, the event was “an opportunity for community members to learn about the democratic political process and how to be an advocate for important issues.” The group largely consisted of Muslim students and children, along with faith leaders.

The event was protested by a group calling itself the Patriot Defense Foundation Inc., who claimed that CAIR sought to create a climate in which it would be able to “take over” America, destroying it for “Americans [who] believe in the Constitution and what this country was founded on.”

24 Ace-o-aces  Jan 29, 2015 1:08:38pm

I cannot emphasize this enough:

Bryan Fischer was the AFA’s FUCKING SPOKESMAN! By definition he spoke FOR them!

25 RealityBasedSteve  Jan 29, 2015 1:09:36pm

The fact that BF still has a job with AFA sort of negates the whole thing. If they were actually offended by his long history of offensive statements he would out the door.

The very fact that he still is blogging and hosting a radio show for AFA means that “We have to put some distance between you and us, but you know we’re cool with you”.

AFA is planning on being an even larger influence in the past in the upcoming elections, and by pretending to deny BF, they can say “Oh, once we became aware of the things he was saying, we took steps to correct it”. They don’t want him to be millstone around the neck of whatever candidate they end up supporting.

Well, that didn’t take long.

The only question is how long before the President vetoes that and sends it back to Congress where it will sit. All the GOP excuses about jobs and oil prices are unmitigated BS, so they’re going to go with claiming that the President is obstructing, well, something. Even though oil prices aren’t going to be affected by Keystone, nor are they going to create jobs anytime soon because oil prices being what they are means that it isn’t cost-effective to build new infrastructure for an unbelievably expensive location to extract and process oil (Canadian tar sands) - not counting the environmental toll.

If the Joni Ernst SOTU “rebuttal” is any indication, the GOP’s still pretty much wed to the fiction of this pipeline creating thousands of “good-paying, ‘Murican jobs.” So when the President inevitably does veto it, they’ll hit the talk show circuit to make a lot of noise about how the President has “turned his back” on American workers.

Sandy Rios, the American Family Association’s director of governmental affairs, said today that criticism of her organization’s role in financing a Republican National Committee trip to Israel is unfounded because Israel “could not have a better ally” than the AFA … despite the fact that God disapproves of the country’s “secular government” and is not “fond of atheist Jews” who live there.

Texas never controlled or even claimed anything like half of the present day US, or of the US at any time for that matter. There were some reductions in claimed sovereignty after annexation and at the time of the Mexican cession in 1848, involving what is now eastern New Mexico and small slivers of present-day Oklahoma, Colorado, Kansas and Wyoming.

Today’s GOP is essentially a simple construct. The central ideology is greed so absolute as to make Ebenezer Scrooge (pre-conversion) look like an altruistic saint.

As a distraction from this ideology, all kinds of political resentments are exploited and exacerbated in the US. Racism, sexism, homophobia, and xenophobia are all amplified and exploited. To serve this agenda, the GOP tirelessly does everything it can to make Americans both stupider and more malicious in aggregate.

Sounds like a perfectly legitimate party that liberals should compromise with in the name of good governance. //////////////////

re: #82 Backwoods_Sleuth

Maybe United can deliver his baggage to where he will be staying when he leaves the hospital?

Hah, that would be too nice.

At least the Twitter did get back to me with the hours, and it’s not their fault that the hospital was so slow on getting him discharged. He’ll just change plans and stay a hotel closer to Heathrow - where he was due to be tomorrow night anyway.

I hope nobody is wondering why we still can’t get effective action on climate change:

In a thinly disguised assault on coal and hydrocarbons, the Obama Administration would have us believe that carbon dioxide (CO2) is a threat to life itself.

Nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, a recent study by my company for the American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity found that the benefits of carbon dioxide to all of us are far greater than its costs.

The government bases many of its regulatory positions on the so-called social cost of carbon, an estimate of climate change damages in a given year. However, our study showed the government positions were based on flawed science:

Really, I wasn’t joking about United delivering the luggage. Most airlines will do that in situations like this.

The biggest decision would appear to be the font to use for printed distribution of the GOP health care plan.

They could have offered and didn’t. Part of it may be it was an international flight and he had to go through customs separately from his bag.

The other problem is I don’t know yet where he will be this evening. There’s the likely plan, but. Sigh. I’m trying to coordinate what I can.

Oxygen is necessary for life, but if you breath pure oxygen at only slightly elevated pressures, you will fry your central nervous system and go into convolutions. Breathing pure O2 at even normal pressure will cause great pulmonary distress.

They miss the fact that the amount as well as the substance is critical. Sometimes even small changes can have profound impacts on a system.

Someone who tweets can just drop the bomb on this latest idiocy from CCJ.

GOP support for racist voting suppression to combat imaginary ‘voter fraud’ is sufficient evidence to prove GOP racism.
