Dallas Morning News Editorial: Anti-Muslim Yokels Brought Shame on Texas

“We’re not all hateful, hayseed, redneck, ignorant Bubbas”
Wingnuts • Views: 31,793

A Dallas Morning News editorial on that absolutely disgraceful display of anti-Muslim hatred at the Texas Capitol pulls no punches: Editorial: Capitol Spectacle Brings Shame on Texas.

It was Texas Muslim Capitol Day in Austin, an annual event for visitors of that faith to visit the seat of state government, meet lawmakers and learn about the political process.

What they learned instead was the ugliness that people are capable of.

The Muslim visitors’ right to peaceful assembly - one of five rights enshrined in the First Amendment — was violated by a small group of morons. Hair flying, one banshee seized the microphone and shrieked nonsense revealing irrational fears more than anything.

Her diatribe created a Lone Star YouTube moment that affirms the worst stereotypes about Texas — that we’re a bunch of slack-eye cousins to the backwater creatures of Deliverance.

Tell your in-laws in New York that we’re not all hateful, hayseed, redneck, ignorant Bubbas. Yes, we do have hateful, hayseed, redneck ignorant Bubbas in Texas. YouTube doesn’t lie.

This rancid garbage comes straight from the likes of Pamela Geller, Robert Spencer, Frank Gaffney and Fox News, who’ve been relentlessly poisoning the discourse about Islam in this country for years.

An unusual rare self-introspection from the otherwise jingoistic Dallas Morning News. Color me surprised.

The comments are hilarious, so many butthurt wingnuts whining but they’re receiving quite a bit of pushback from the rational folks. There is hope for DFW after all.

Xtianity4TX, the Christian equivalent to the UK’s Islam4UK wankers run by Anjem Choudary. Only difference is the EDL and the rest of the far-right European movements would agree with the nutjob protestors.

It’s obviously true that not all Texans are hateful rednecks. But, uh… there are WAY too many who obviously are. The first comment I see for this editorial right now:

Muslims are a malevolent evil intent on destroying this country I applaud this woman who disrupted these emmisaries for terrorism. All Americans should be prepared to use whatever force is necessary to stop these evil vicious followers of a child molesting false prophet.

This rancid garbage comes straight from the likes of Pamela Geller and Robert Spencer, who’ve been relentlessly poisoning the discourse about Islam in this country for years now.

Now, I don’t approve of hijacking the microphone at someone’s event, but neither the woman who did so, nor Rep. They lowered the level of discourse, not raised it.

my cousin is one of those bubbas, lives outside of Dallas and attends Joel Osteen’s church. Thinks all Muslims are performing “taqiyya” and must be eliminated by spiritual or “physical” means. I tried to explain to him online that people said the same thing about Jews in the 1930s (he’s pro-Israel in that Christian fundy way)… no response, other than to tell me to take off my “pink tinted glasses”

No way to get through to these people

I Have no doubt that media outlets in Muslim majority countries overseas, not to mention organizations like AQ & ISIS—will be broadcasting these videos as examples of how Americans view Islam/Muslims.

I’m pretty sure they’re the equivalent of what our media shows us about how people in Muslim majority countries feel about Americans—y’know the crowds burning U.S. flags or effigies of POTUS. with their faces contorted in rage as they scream, “Death to America!” or whatever.

I attribute it to isolation (500 miles in any direction is still Texas), general failure of the education system, and the fact that actual diversity is a fairly new thing out here. Which is weird, considering that Chrischun White Folk are technically a minority here and have been for a while.

Huh. Old School Lizard stopped in... Class of 08 and very few comments.

I’ve been saving this one for you, RWC. It seems the DCPD’s clue meter is still reading ‘zero’:

Washington D.C. approves just eight concealed carry permits

This week, under orders from a federal judge, the first concealed carry permits in the District of Columbia in 83 years were given out, and the numbers are underwhelming.

The handful of permits are an effort to appease a federal court order that mandated the nation’s capital strike down its long-standing ban on carrying guns outside the home. That case, Palmer v D.C., was decided last July by U.S. District Court Judge Frederick J. Scullin, who allowed the city until Oct. 22, 2014, before his judgment went into effect. The legislative response to Scullin’s order was a harsh “may-issue” set of regulations that are termed by many to be among the most restrictive concealed carry laws in the nation.

“We’ve had 69 applications, of which three were canceled at the request of the applicant,” Metropolitan Police Department representative Gwendolyn Crump told the Washington Free Beacon. “So far eight licenses have been approved and issued.”

When contrasted against the 646,449 population estimate by the U.S. Census Bureau, this figure is one lawfully licensed carrier for every 80,000 residents. Nonetheless, it is the first carry outside the home authorized under the District’s laws since 1932.

What is perhaps more telling is the figure of rejected applicants, 11 so far, which surpasses even the small number of permits issued. This may be due to the strict requirements that have been termed by some gun rights advocates as giving the District a “no issue” policy.

Hmm.I wonder how that even works. I doubt the permits will get renewed, That’s what the do here. You apply and get denied. You sue for and get a permit ‘cause you do fit the law. Then in 12 months your renewal is denied as a matter of policy and you get to start all over. Unless they changed some other laws if you have a CCW and they find a loose empty or live cartridge in your vehicle, now you get arrested. Despite the permit.

I must admit that DC is a really problematic place for CCW short of a big exclusion zone around capitol facilities.

I’ve found that when you bring up the existence of good Muslims from foreign countries, they just digress about how horrible those immigrants’ home countries are because of Islam and how Islam is incompatible with democracy (therefore it must be obliterated)

Try doing that with Christians that come from Muslim countries. Assyrians and Lebanese Maronites hold a lot of vitriol towards Muslims and no amount of information will convince them otherwise. I’m speaking from experience here.

The W White House didn’t panic.

W, like the rest of the country, swallowed their bullshit then they panicked. Dubya is one of those people whose lives are circumscribed by their servants. They can only act as their servants allow them to act.

That’s what made W such a perfect president from a ‘conservative’ point of view. Not because he was a Great Leader, but because he wasn’t.

Nobody shoots straight when the scriptwriters are against them.

Roger Ebert called it “The Principal of Evil Marksmanship”: When its just nameless extras being bumped off, such as the Rebel marines in the first gunfight in Star Wars Episode 4, the bad guys shoot competently and effectively. But if its a main character being shot at, the bad guys can’t shoot straight.

But in movies it could not be otherwise: To do a realistic sequence would run like this:

The good secret agent gets hit in the lower torso when he tries to move from cover, there’s about a minute of him writhing on the ground bleeding, screaming for God and for his mother, then one of the terrorists walks up to a distance just outside arms reach and shoots the agent in the head.

That wouldn’t be a movie we’d want to see, especially the part about what gunshot wounds really do.

For those who don’t follow Respectful Insolence, Orac’s Friday post was about the antivaccine cardiologist in Arizona (branch office of the Disneyland measles outbreak and soon home to thousands of Superbowl-goers).

From the comments, “Dr.” Wolfson’s comments on a child’s death from chickenpox:

“Recently, a child died from complications of the chicken pox and now her mother wants to make sure everyone gets injected. While the death of any child is a travesty, this one could have been prevented, not with injecting more chemicals into this young girl, but with good nutrition and chemical avoidance. She was likely fed GMO, sugar, gluten, soy, corn, and other items that led to her demise. Her mother sadly blames the doctor (who advised her against the vaccine) and the rest of us who demand the freedom to choose whether or not to inject chemicals into our children. Here is the response of my wife, Dr. Heather Wolfson, to a column on Yahoo. Where do I begin?!! I can go on forever about it. First of all, the little girl was born without a spleen therefore she was immunocompromised since birth. The lack of this vital organ was probably caused by some drug the mother took while pregnant! Immunocompromised individuals are not supposed to receive vaccines. Kudos to the pediatrician who steered the mom and child away from the chicken pox shot. I’d like to shake his hand. He probably saved the girls life given she may have died due to complications of vaccines based on her poor immune status. i Maybe the mother got an extra five years of life from her daughter by not participating in vaccine schedule folly. She should be thankful to the doctor. Secondly, the mother probably gave fever reducers such as Tylenol. This depletes glutathione and is a sure fire way to allow your child to succumb to such a benign childhood illness. In this country, one in 30,000 of those with chicken pox died every year, for a grand total of 100 per annum. Those were usually adults. Please don’t pass a law forcing us to vaccinate and inject chemicals into our children because 100 people died per year. What was the health status of those 100 prior to chicken pox? Probably not good. Your healthy, breast fed, organic child will not suffer the same fate. If this mother would have sought out chiropractic care, gave just two simple vitamins A and C, she would have never developed pneumonia. Also, mom fed her garbage food and exposed her to thousands of chemicals. This little girl is dead, not from chicken pox, but from chemicals and poor nutrition. Additionally, she probably had at least one vaccine, hepatitis B, when she was first born in the hospital which would have destroyed her immune and nervous system from the start. The mother is ignorant, uneducated, and a danger to all other parents and children. She should spend her time learning how the human body works instead of spreading her deadly advice to the rest of the world.”

There are no more ‘black helicopters’ outside of SOCOM. The black Hueys got retired due to sequestration-mandated budget cuts, and the night-painted Blackhawks are being repainted green and transferred to the Army National Guard to make up for the Apaches the Guards will be losing to full-time Army units.

Of course, like all such sequester related matters, the loss of the black helicopters can be blamed on Barack Obama.

But the important thing is he will be home.

Yeah, it seems that the pundits are starting to get that “thrill up their leg” over Walker’s speech in Iowa. They’re already trying to vet him as some sort of phenom for winning three elections, but can’t seem to broach the reality that the man is under criminal investigation, and six of his inner circle when Milwaukee County Exec including his chief political aide have ended up behind bars due to past investigations.

But then again, this is the same “liberal” media that thinks Perry now looks “smart” because he’s wearing glasses during his public appearances. And think Christie has potential as a presidential candidate because he’s made a career out of belittling his opponents and shouting them down.

I understand that he was working with such a pure compound and not knowing its purity, he had absorbed some through his skin and it was one hell of a dose for the first ‘trip’. That became clear once he understood the drug and how powerful it could be from his trials.

He may have been one of the first space travelers. /

Like many things in nature…I wonder about the reactions of the first humans to come across something they do not understand.

If you reconstruct the possible world views of early man, using anlogues like the Australians’ Dream Time, it might have seemed fairly normal.

“Man, had that dream again.”
“Sabre-tooth marathon?”
Nah, spiders this time, but the mutha was HUGE.”

The Muslim visitors’ right to peaceful assembly - one of five rights enshrined in the First Amendment — was violated by a small group of morons.

Wingnuts with their Don’t Tread On Me bumperstickers spending their time trying to Tread all over everyone else. I doubt they see irony.

Have they noticed that he’s wholly owned by the Koch Brothers?

Or, as Charles P. Pierce describes him in his ongoing series “Watching Scotty Blow,” the goggle-eyed homunculus hired by Koch Industries to manage their midwest subsidiary formerly known as the state of Wisconsin.

Some of their kitchen stuff is really quite nice.

If I had the oomph to redo the kitchen we would definitely consider their stuff. A new line apparently comes out on Monday; at least a third of their “demo” rooms were closed off as they’re prepping to unveil the new kitchens.
