Given the rumors that Upchuck pooped on the floor, that he pissed in his girlfriends mouth and that he attempted to copulate with a sheep, you think he’d be more sensitive to what kind of damage malicious rumors can do and act accordingly.

But of course, that assumes a couple of facts not in evidence: that Upchuck is capable of empathy and that the rumors are malicious and false.

I wonder how much money we’d have to raise to get his girlfriend to confirm the rumor? Cause the sheep ain’t talking.

Hey, Klystron, OT but has the husband seen a really good ENT? I struggled with chronic sinus infections and headaches most of my life but it was only recently that I saw a good ENT. Turns out I had a severely deviated septum which prevented my sinuses from draining properly. Had surgery about six months ago to correct the problem and it’s made a huge difference. Haven’t had a sinus infection since and the horrible headaches are a thing of the past.

So, let’s see. Today the GOP controlled legislature in Nebraska accidentally recognized gay marriage because they wanted to extend an exemption from the regular waiting period for military spouses to get firearms in state.

Now, Michigan’s Gov. Synder has recognized gay marriages performed in the state last year.

The number of states that aren’t recognizing gay marriage keeps shrinking, and the reasons to keep up the ban on SSM keeps shrinking. It wont stop the discrimination or the bass-ackward behavior by some against those seeking to get into a gay marriage. But it’s a start.

AT&T is revving up for a go at the FCC too:

AT&T posted to their public policy blog yesterday a set of “closing arguments” drawn from two filings they made to the FCC. Basically, the pair of filings add up to, “Here is every legal justification we can throw at the wall for why the FCC can’t do this.”

Argument one is the “let us logic at you” argument. In it, AT&T parses out the language of a Supreme Court ruling from 2005, drawing out all the ways in which Justice Scalia said that ISPs provided both an information and a telecommunications service, therefore (in AT&T’s view) making it legally invalid to declare everything to fall under telecom rules.

Argument two is the “you can’t do this anyway” argument. In that one, AT&T says that there are “procedural infirmities” with the FCC’s reclassification proposal. In the last year, AT&T posits, the commission “has not engaged in the kind of detailed analysis that would be needed to assess the offerings of every ISP” under a new regulatory scheme.

The climax involves a dice game with a gang leader from out of town. A guy who uses dice you can’t read the numbers on, so he *tells* you what he rolled. And all the hoods go along with it and act like he’s playing fair, because he’s got so much muscle that it’s suicide to object.

That’s pretty much how the Constitution and the Bible work for the current crop of wingnuts. It means what they want, when they want, and you don’t get to make up your own version or question theirs.

81 Ace-o-aces  Feb 4, 2015 1:09:41pm
82 lawhawk  Feb 4, 2015 1:12:30pm

This goes to the whole gun toting ethos of the right wing. They think that if you’re packing heat, you’re protected all the time. It’s a magic talisman. That’s why you often seen memes showing women (usually Summer Glau or some other very attractive actress) packing heat. It’s why Dana Loesch put a photo of herself carrying a gun on the cover of her latest book.

And all of those firearms don’t help when women are more likely to be killed by their spouse or significant other than anyone else.

Now, while the actual toll has declined in the US, in part because domestic relations law has changed to give women more ways to get out of abusive or violent relationships, and to give them more legal protections at the same time, women still are often killed by people they know.

Though it’s not stated in his video, part of Watkins’ anger over Texas’ proposed open carry law is that it would bar him from obtaining a carry license, because he’s been arrested for interfering with a police officer—a disqualifying factor.

He won’t be satisfied with the Texas lege passing open carry. He’s on a path to do some serious damage.

Don’tcha love it when these morons think they’re citing the Constitution?

“Going against the Constitution is treason. And that, my friend, is punishable by death.”

Gee, what does the Constitution have to say about that?

Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort.

Pretty clearly does NOT say that ‘going against the Constitution is treason’. Perhaps we should try him for treason for going against the Constitution in his claim that going against the Constitution is treason?
//

As my good friend James Madison once wrote:

As treason may be committed against the United States, the authority of the United States ought to be enabled to punish it. But as new-fangled and artificial treasons have been the great engines by which violent factions, the natural offspring of free Governments, have usually wreaked their alternate malignity on each other, the Convention have, with great judgment, opposed a barrier to this peculiar danger, by inserting a Constitutional definition of the crime, fixing the proof necessary for conviction of it, and restraining the Congress, even in punishing it, from extending the consequences of guilt beyond the person of its author.

Currently, only citizens with concealed weapons permits are allowed to carry their guns into the capitol as long as they keep them concealed, which is why it’s likely the activists were packing when they confronted Representative Poncho Nevarez on January 13.

Nevarez at first humored the activists as they accused him of being a “tyrant,’ but then ordered them out.

“I’m asking you to leave my office,” Nevarez said.

“You need to leave my state because you don’t take your oath seriously,” Watkins responded.

Once the group was out of the office, Nevarez tried to shut the door, but Watkins jammed his foot in the doorway, preventing it from closing.

“Get your foot out the door,” Nevarez said.

“What are you going to do,” Watkins dared.

Charles C Johnson doesn’t get it: it no longer matters if Obama is gay or not (he isn’t). It won’t lose him an election, and donors to the library aren’t likely to care. And being gay is not going to be enough to impeach him-being gay is not a “high crime and misdemeanor”.

They are really frustrated-they want a repeat of the 1998 Impeachment and Obama stubbornly refuses to give them a reason that isn’t laughable on its face. So they are hoping that Obama’s gay.

If I were Obama’s partner, I’d hold out for Post-Presidential loot. Instead of being the subject of a witchhunt like Monica, I could just cash in on my tell-all book and appearances. Once he’s not President, no subpeonas or anything.

FAA allowing companies to start claiming territory on the moon

n a previously undisclosed letter obtained by Reuters from the FAA to Bigelow Aerospace, the agency says it’s aiming to “leverage the FAA’s existing launch licensing authority to encourage private sector investments in space systems by ensuring that commercial activities can be conducted on a non-interference basis.”

Translation: Bigelow could set up one of its proposed inflatable habitats on the moon, and have the expectation that it’s the only company with a stake on that territory, as well as any areas related to it for mining, exploration, and other things. It’s kind of like the pioneers in the wild west getting some protection from claim jumpers, in other words.

As Bigelow puts it to Reuters, the FAA’s letter “doesn’t mean that there’s ownership of the moon. It just means that somebody else isn’t licensed to land on top of you or land on top of where exploration and prospecting activities are going on, which may be quite a distance from the lunar station.”

I asked him whether he considered this something that would be likely to happen very much, and also pointed out that right now there is no law preventing an adult child from living with one or both parents.

But I really wondered about the examples they come up with. They seem not only very specific, but also highly unlikely.

“They have become bolder and more confrontational,” Assistant Police Chief Leland Strickland wrote in a memo in July. “Group members have increasingly encroached upon officers at scenes of law- enforcement activity.”

On numerous occasions, police officials later said, cop-watchers responded to officers’ instructions by shouting, “Arrest me!” and “It’s legal to carry!” before slipping into a barrage of obscenities.

Where in the US or Texas Constitutions does it state that violating the Constitution is punishable by death?

I think treason is the only crime that’s listed as automatically punishable by death in the Constitution. I’m not sure, though.

Love it:

CJ Grisham, founder of Open Carry Texas, and Kory Watkins, leader of Open Carry Tarrant County, have arrests on Class B misdemeanor charges of interfering with the public duties of a peace officer, reported the Houston Chronicle.

Under the state’s current law, anyone convicted of Class A or B misdemeanors are unable to carry a concealed handgun for five years, and anyone arrested on those charges lose their concealed carry permit until the case is resolved.

Still my favorite Kory Watkins story:

A Cop Watcher Was Almost Killed by a Drunk Driver After Surveilling a DWI Checkpoint

sorry for the lengthy block quote, but it needs to be shared this much:

In Watkins own words (via Facebook):

“So last night on my way home from cop watching a drunk driver was going around 100 mph and smashed into the back of me, I could not control the car , I went sideways, then flipped 3 times, hit a cement piller to stop my roll and put me in a ditch on The side of 287. I was 2 miles always from being home. I am incredible lucky to be breathing. I can’t tell you how lucky I am to be alive.”

The post, which has since be deleted, also included this:

“I see a few sick I individuals taken time to think this is a joke or it’s funny that the cops helped me, Let me say this. I am happy the police showed up to catch him but I’m trying to figure out where they helped me any….. Was it the part where they showed up 15 minutes after the crime or was it when they wrote me a 300$ ticket after my car was totaled ? Any sick fuck that thinks this is the time to crack irony jokes can go the he’ll away. I’m lucky to be alive. There are some sick people that try to take a situation and spin it to fit their beliefs when they don’t know crap. Some sick people …. Mother Fucker almost dies and people are joking about it. I think I am beginning to see how this gun control political scrap is going to get resolved.

The anti-gun control dudes like Watkins are going to get so full of themselves and push things just too far forcing politicians, police and sane gun groups to react.

The whole thing is an unstable powder keg. If the politicians, police and sane gun groups don’t stop the craziness, then there is a good chance it gets stopped with a lot more restrictions than they are most likely willing to accept now if they were truthful about it.

Daesh’ metamorphosis into a large, heavily armed gang of extortionists seems to presage their end. It would seem prudent to expend some resources on finding out who provided their seed money and who may still be donating to their cause. The ME is chock a block with easily obtained weapons and angry people. Although that won’t change in the foreseeable future it would be good to preclude that combination from becoming another Daesh.

The guys who posts these “if they had a gun” meme are really just displaying that they have zero clue what it means to have an entire system built to tread on your personal liberty. They keep imagining that on some level, that the violence obeys certain chivalric rules: that “might makes right” plays out as some kind of duel. That if you shoot the right people, you can win.

The concept of an endless, disproportionate arbitrary beat of violence…purposefully striking first at the vulnerable and the weak…would be normal, acceptable to the hegemony just doesn’t occur to them.

California, what are we waiting for??!

Colorado May Have To Refund As Much As $30 Million In Pot Taxes
DENVER (AP) — Colorado’s marijuana experiment was designed to raise revenue for the state and its schools, but a state law may put some of the tax money directly into residents’ pockets, causing quite a headache for lawmakers.

The state constitution limits how much tax money the state can take in before it has to give some back. That means Coloradans may each get their own cut of the $50 million in recreational pot taxes collected in the first year of legal weed. It’s a situation so bizarre that it’s gotten Republicans and Democrats, for once, to agree on a tax issue.

Oh, Rand, you rascal, you.

“I have heard of many tragic cases of walking, talking normal children who wound up with profound mental disorders after vaccines.”

Paul attempted to clarify his comments in a statement Tuesday, saying “I did not say vaccines caused disorders, just that they were temporally related…

Hunter at kos, as always, clears up that bit of bullshit:

Other things that are “temporally related” to the administration of vaccines are learning to crawl, learning to talk, and learning that you should not put your peanut butter sandwich in the VCR slot even if it does look like it would fit there perfectly, damn it. But nobody ever waxes anti-philosophic on the “cases” of children who learn these things “temporally” adjacent to getting a shot from their doctor’s office.

I once got a vaccination and that very same year somewhere else in America a plane crashed, but I drew no temporal connection. I could have, but it would have not added to the political debate or made me appear statesmanlike. Or perhaps it would have, because statesmanlike is a low hurdle, these days.

Compare to the effects of meth:

Methamphetamine’s ability to release dopamine rapidly in reward regions of the brain produces the euphoric “rush” or “flash” that many users experience. Repeated methamphetamine use can easily lead to addiction—a chronic, relapsing disease characterized by compulsive drug seeking and use.
……
Chronic methamphetamine use is accompanied by chemical and molecular changes in the brain. Imaging studies have shown changes in the activity of the dopamine system that are associated with reduced motor skills and impaired verbal learning.

re: #233 Decatur Deb

To bring up an issue we discussed with our Killgore, if I see a dude with a piece and ski mask walking around, I’m calling 911. Better to let the pros handle it than to be the 3rd yokel on the right, explaining to the nice newslady why you did nothing before the massacre.

This happened up here yesterday. A man sleeping in a car with a gun on the seat was revealed to be a local long-term criminal. After a shootout with police, he sped off, and eventually committed suicide.

Did I miss the memo that said this week wingnuts will watch old movies, misunderstand them and then make political statements based on fictional stories?

First Newt:

Then wingnut supreme, Pat Boone (who either never saw the movie or didn’t have clue fucking one what it was about):

This is the 50th anniversary of the film “Doctor Strangelove…”

So, in the president’s view…Will he just sovereignly declare, like a 21st century “Doctor Strangelove,” that while he raises our national debt to over $18 trillion, we can “save money” by emptying and shutting down all our prisons and just let all the offenders be released back into society.

Gah—it’s like they get stupider and stupider before our very eyes.

Hey! What did Devo ever do to you?

(Interesting story: Bob Casale was at Kent State during the shootings, and the incident led to much of the development of Devo’s philosophy)

I love Devo! Saw ‘em on the Freedom of Choice tour. It was fun. And yeah, I’ve heard that bit about him being at Kent.

The reason I mention Devo is this (As seen before):

Are We Not Men? Not If We Don’t Have Guns!

That makes my head hurt.

Newt is complaining how people haven’t faced the reality of that fictional movie involving an attack that hasn’t occurred?

re: #256 BeachDem

I’m still curious as to what reality that the “elites” are missing. Clearly, Newt has something in mind, but can’t enunciate what it may be. Asking him flat out isn’t helping either. He’s just ignoring that he was called out for being a dumbass for referencing a 70s movie with zero context.

I was just snarkin’ on ya. I forgot about that ‘shop you’d (?) done last time that doofus was in the news. It did remind me of that album cover, though, so I got the reference.

Keith Olbermann tried to set him straight, but it probably didn’t penetrate Newt’s thick skull.

I think Newt’s been sniffing too much of Callista’s hair resin.

Yeah—I figured Newt was a one-off, but then when Pat Boone joined in the “Old movies that have nothing to do with what I’m saying” game, I wondered if it was all going to escalate. //
