Jim Hoft Again: Did Gallup’s CEO Really Say He Might ‘Suddenly Disappear?’

They never stop lying
Wingnuts • Views: 29,461

Here we go again! Yes, folks, we have two articles about the Stupidest Man on the Internet today, because once again Jim Hoft is helping circulate a huge lie to the crazed right wing base. His screaming headline:

Gallup CEO: I May “Suddenly Disappear” for Telling Truth About Obama Unemployment Rate (Video) | the Gateway Pundit

Gallup CEO Jim Clifton told CNBC he might “suddenly disappear” for telling the truth about the Obama unemployment rate.

The real Obama unemployment rate has never recovered and is still above 10%.

Wall Street on Parade reported:

Years of unending news stories on U.S. government programs of surveillance, rendition and torture have apparently chilled the speech of even top business executives in the United States.

Yesterday, Jim Clifton, the Chairman and CEO of Gallup, an iconic U.S. company dating back to 1935, told CNBC that he was worried he might “suddenly disappear” and not make it home that evening if he disputed the accuracy of what the U.S. government is reporting as unemployed Americans.

The CNBC interview came one day after Clifton had penned a gutsy opinion piece on Gallup’s web site, defiantly calling the government’s 5.6 percent unemployment figure “The Big Lie” in the article’s headline. His appearance on CNBC was apparently to walk back the “lie” part of the title and reframe the jobs data as just hopelessly deceptive.

Clifton stated the following on CNBC:

“I think that the number that comes out of BLS [Bureau of Labor Statistics] and the Department of Labor is very, very accurate. I need to make that very, very clear so that I don’t suddenly disappear. I need to make it home tonight.”

The simple rule that must be followed whenever the SMOTI publishes a shocking claim like this: assume he’s lying. You’ll never go wrong. So let’s go to the actual video — which, oddly enough, does not actually play in Hoft’s article or at his loony source for the claim — and check it out. Did Jim Clifton actually say these words?

Yes, he did. But is he actually worried that the Obama administration might kill him for expressing his opinion about the unemployment statistics?

Absolutely not. What Hoft and his source fail to tell you is that Clifton was making a (bad) joke. Watch for yourself; he smiles and laughs when he says it. Obviously, he’s not seriously concerned about “disappearing.”

Video

Just one more lie from the SMOTI.

And look who’s picking up articles now from Jim Hoft — just the most deranged conspiracy loon in the US, Alex Jones: » Gallup CEO: I May ‘Suddenly Disappear’ for Telling Truth About Obama Unemployment Rate - Alex Jones’ Infowars

Birds of a feather, lying together.

Because how dare he reveal that there is a U-6 unemployment rate that the BLS updates every month on its website for anyone to click on and look at?

Is the ‘might disappear’ comment to be taken as an awkward sarcasm? Otherwise it’s disturbing that he sets the pace for a credible polling organization.

Don’t most people know that government unemployment stats usually don’t show people who’ve given up searching for jobs? Why is this even news at all? This didn’t start with Obama.

I was looking for a photo of my Tele, but apparently I don’t have one. I’ll have to rectify that at some point, obviously. Thanks for the videos, as well. A. He’s forming words in any medium available.

You would think that Jim Clifton would not be happy about this due to the fact that a CREDIBLE pollster needs to be objective !!! Hopefully this will come to bite Hoft in the ass.

These people (cultists) are so off the wall we can hope that at some point their shrieking will betray their morally bankrupt intentions.

Say What? “Mitt Romney didn’t win?” asked Jim Clifton.

re: #5 Charles Johnson

They are simply looking for a way to deny that Obama’s policies have reduced unemployment. Their ideology has become dogma, so anything that demonstrates that their ideology isn’t true must be a lie.

Since most of the audience for SMOTI aren’t aware enough to realize that all the stats have been done the same way (or don’t care), this just gives them more justification to hate Obama. We all know that if a Republican president reduced unemployment then the long-term unemployed would never be mentioned.

Because you know Jim’s all about that base,
‘Bout that base, not truthful.
He’s all ‘bout that base, ‘bout that base, not truthful….

A buddy of mine was carping about this stuff at me a few years back, when he was frustrated by being out of work and looking for someone to blame. I was trying to be diplomatic, but I pointed out how “weird” it was that nobody ever brought up these numbers when W was in charge, and the economy was cratering.

I’m still not sure if this U6 stuff is important or not, other than its utility for the oppositon to bash the President.

21 Justanotherhuman  Feb 8, 2015 1:46:40pm

What makes sense to me is that, at least around here, whenever the word is advertised that a company is hiring, those jobs go pretty quickly.

People want to work—some will do whatever it takes, as we see in the rise of those studying new skills and those taking jobs with shit wages.

22 Rev_Arthur_Icantbreatheing  Feb 8, 2015 1:47:35pm

Also, OT - I wish Charles would chime in on the guitar discussion at some point. I’m sure he’s done so before, but that was before I was around.

23 Shiplord Kirel  Feb 8, 2015 1:50:23pm

I’ve actually considered writng a novella in which a crazed money-grubber, superstar conspiracy theorist is abducted, held for two weeks under bizarre conditions, then released stark naked on a remote road 300 miles from where he disappeared. The abductors leave no marks and keep him in good physical condition, as though he had actually spent the time at a remote resort somewhere.
He tells the story, as it truly happened, and is met with raucous screams of “fake”, and a mighty roar of skepticism, disbelief, and ridicule even from his followers. The characterization would follow his emotional state and gradual self recognition as he searches for proof of his claims.

Was with a friend who was a huge Smith fan when the news came out. She was in tears—told me a lot of great stories I hadn’t heard before about how Smith really stood up for his black players and for equality. Told me an anecdote about him going into a lily-white restaurant in Chapel Hill and just staring down anyone who questioned why he had his guys with him.

Also told me about a game Smith went to, after he had developed Alzheimer’s, when Jordan went up to him and planted a kiss on his cheek. We need more like him, especially today.

Obviously, the RW refuses to acknowledge the efforts of people like James Robertson who walked 21 miles to and from his job that paid just over $10/hr for the 10 yrs he was without a car and his wages weren’t enough to purchase another one.

Enjoy your new Ford Taurus, Mr. Robertson! You deserve it. : )

Hoffa was investigated by RFK and pardoned by Nixon, who he in turn supported. The Teamsters under much of his presidency were kept out of the AFofL/CIO. The bastards broke our picket line at the Great GE Strike.

(repeating comment from down thread about the Gallup CEO comments - I first saw them due to a link LinkedIn put as an initial headline link in an email they sent out.

That article annoyed me for three reasons:
1. He treated the U3 and U6 as the same thing without making a distinction. And these are not new metrics.

2. He made the whole thing “The White House” chortling about reduced unemployment - while ignoring that it had been an improvement in the metric over the past few years. (Thus implying that the White House is essentially just lying.)

3. He defines “a good job” as >30 hours a weak with a regular paycheck. Well - there are a pile of industries out there (Looking at you Walmart) that specifically avoid delivering a “good job” while pointing these same desperate employees to public assistance in order to make ends meet. (Essentially passing on their obligation to fairly pay their employees on to the government and others.)

It was a dishonest article. And that LinkedIn spawned it out as a headline link on an email is them essentially propagandizing to their members with a bunch of bullshit painted up to be anti-government (well anti Obama government at least.)

re: #5 Charles Johnson

It’s all fun with statistics.

The same people complaining about U6 rate now ignored it when the rate was spiking with Bush from 2007 onwards. Rather, they’d focus on the U3 rate that was still lower.

Traditionally, the U6 rate runs about 3 points higher than the U3. It got to be much higher after the fiscal collapse, and it’s still running slightly higher than pre collapse, but it’s returning to the baseline.

The President can’t do much to address those.

Gas prices are a similar story. They’d complain about the high gas prices as being the President’s fault, but now that gas prices are down, and the President decides to take credit for the gas prices, they turn around and say that he’s got nothing to do with the prices.

It’s cognitive dissonance, Obama Derangement Syndome, and right wing hate turned to 11ty.

I was unemployed for 6 of 8 years of Bush administration.

After Y2K, corporations couldn’t shove IT jobs to China & India fast enough. The only available jobs were short-term temp contract assignments. Even before Y2K, half the employees at the facilities where I worked were H1B “guest workers” brought over because of a “shortage of skilled American tech workers.”

Yeah right, a shortage of American workers willing to work for the shit pay the H1B’s got.

Job listings were specifically tailored to the H1B’s resume that they wanted to import. There would like 16 skills listed, and if you had 15 of those skills but one “oh sorry you’re not qualified.”

Then came the GM bailout and JOBS FOR AMERICAN WORKERS.

Although I have to admit, jobs for white, male American workers. Where I currently work, 90% of the employees are white, and male.

Well, Falcon 9 launch coming up in <40 minutes. I hope they can pull off the barge landing this time.

I’m of a generation where a spaceship isn’t the real thing unless it’s a giant V-2 that takes off and lands vertically on its jets, so this would be a big step….

IIRC, the Delta Clipper rocket upon landing vertically upright (like in the SF movies) damaged one of the landing legs and fell on its side.

Dang, good old G. Harry Stine. I didn’t think I’d see his name here. The father of model rocketry. That name takes me way back. Wow.

I had met him and his daughters in Houston at the Manned Space Center back in 1970. We were all there for the National Rocket Association Nationals finals. His one daughter, Connie, is now the significant other to the guy that got me into model rocketry. The other was Ellie, who was my age at the time…16. And real cute, too.

The guy I knew retired from Boeing not too long ago. He and Connie met back up after long lives, other relationships and careers at the ripe ages of around 60! When I heard that I thought it was way cool. From teenagers that wrote each other at 18 to a real couple at 60.

I just went to the Wiki page and they had a photo up of Stein at that very National Rocket Contest. Damn…I can feel the 104° heat at that event, and I remember that very field in the photo. And him, just like depicted.

Wiki - G. Harry Stein

Thanks for the mention. It triggered a nice memory.

Hate watch it. /

I can’t take them seriously after giving Hard Rock/Heavy Metal to Jethro Tull over Metallica. And then last year they ran commercials over the closing act. The whole thing is supposed to be a music commercial to sell albums, and they ran commercials.

There isn’t much reason to like the fact that they’re always about a decade or two behind on what people are listening to.

I actually find more at fault with the Rock and Roll HoF than the Grammys - considering that many of the acts aren’t actually rock and roll (r&b, blues, rap, etc.) and it’d be more appropriate to call it a music HoF instead.

Teenage daughter of a NJ State Trooper wont be charged with making terrorist threats after posting tweets that she’d bomb the Jews (while wearing a mashup getup of Nazi and State Trooper gear).

While the teen’s anti-Semitic posts are offensive, they do not constitute a credible threat, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office told the Asbury Park Press.

“There was never any danger being posed to the community,” spokesman Al Della Fave said. “It didn’t rise to anything criminal.”

In multiple posts, the girl donned a Hitler mustache and swastika. In one image, she gives the Nazi salute in what appears to be a State Police hat. The picture is captioned, “1944: crematorium crew.”

On the same Twitter account, the user uploaded a picture of young Orthodox Jewish families outside an Italian ice shop with the caption, “perfect bombing time.”

In another tweet, the user wrote, “I really wanna drive around Lakewood and run over every Jew with my car.”

She seems nice. And I have to wonder if her dad’s job as a State Trooper has anything to do with charges not being forthcoming.

Ground troops where exactly? Put your finger on the map and say where exactly you want them to go.

Because to call for ground troops against ISIL means considering staging ground forces in any/all of the above, and fighting a ground action in Iraq or Syria or Lebanon and possibly deal with spillover into Jordan.

Basic Question for Ted Cruz:

You say that ground troops should be considered.

Ground troops where exactly? Put your finger on the map and say where exactly you want them to go.

Iraq?
Syria?
Jordan?
Lebanon?
Turkey?

Because to call for ground troops against ISIL means considering staging ground forces in any/all of the above, and fighting a ground action in Iraq or Syria or Lebanon and possibly deal with spillover into Jordan.

Having seen footage of the kabloie on youtube, two different angles, I would say it’s either a fuel/air bomb going off, or a massive secondary explosion.

Had that been a nuke, you’d been hearing the guys in the video cussing and whincing in pain. You’d also see radiation artefacts in the video itself.

Agree - it wasn’t a nuke. It was probably a fuel-air bomb or an ammo depot going off.

Nukes are much bigger and more long-lasting than that.

Well, there are small tac nukes for battlefield use in the range from a kT or two to the size of the only two used in anger.

The flash in the various videos is between 3 and 4 seconds long, and my trust table indicates that such a fireball duration indicates 22 to 40 kT yield. However, the flash isn’t bright enough to count as a fireball.
The delay between flash and shockwave is 15-ish seconds in both vids, indicating a 5 km / 3 mi distance. 22 to 40 kT at 5 kilometers would embed a lot of glass and debris in the videographers, possibly set them or at least set things around them on fire.
Also, close enough to have radiation artefacts in the video (there are none).

What a tactical nuke detonation looks like:

I’d say with high certainty that it wasn’t a nuke. Not the kind of thermal effects you’d see (and there’s no indication of damage of a kind that would indicate a nuke).

Big explosions don’t have to be nuclear either.

Think Pepcon disaster in Henderson NV, which was the result of a rocket fuel factory blowing up.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) on Sunday blasted President Obama’s economic policy, claiming that the economy has only improved for the rich.

ABC’s George Stephanopoulos asked Cruz what he would say to potential 2016 nominee Hillary Clinton if she claimed Democrats fixed an economy destroyed by Republicans.

“Well, look, if Hillary Clinton wants to run by telling Americans that the economy is doing great and you can credit President Obama and Hillary Clinton for that, I would encourage her to follow that strategy. Because the simple reality is, that’s true for the wealthy,” Cruz responded on ABC’s “This Week.”
