And Now, the Awful Right Wing Tweet of the Day

What right wing racism?
Wingnuts • Views: 23,435

The day is still young, but the usual wingnut suspects are going to have to work hard to top this absolutely awful tweet from convicted felon Dinesh D’Souza.

I wasn’t aware that the President lived in “the ghetto.” Hey Dinesh, did you remember to starch those white sheets?

2 lawhawk  Feb 18, 2015 8:46:06am

For a change, this isn’t a Chuck C Johnson production.
Instead, it’s a Dinesh tweet, who’s everything Chuck is but for the conviction.
Rinse and repeat racism from Dinesh and the right wing.
Still, this is early to announce the right wing tweet of the day.
The self-admitted convicted felon has the edge so far.

3 Dr. Matt  Feb 18, 2015 8:46:22am

Wing-nuts/racists just need to get it over and start calling the POTUS “a ni**er”. It’s only a matter of time.

4 Backwoods_Sleuth  Feb 18, 2015 8:46:56am

The tweet responses are generally good.

Evidently, the judge erred in sentencing this miscreant who has proved he didn’t deserve the white glove treatment.

re: #1 Targetpractice

I wasn’t aware that using a selfie stick is “ghetto”. If so, then there’s a whole lot of white folk poseurs who are doing it.

But this isn’t about facts or logic. It’s about pathological hatred of everything about this President.

This is a right wing that hates that millions have health insurance under a program modeled on a prominent GOPer (and former Presidential candidate) that was incubated at a major right wing think-tank (Heritage). This same right wing wants millions to lose that insurance, and kill the health insurance program by any means necessary, including a misreading of the enabling legislation that even the opponents admitted previously was meant to do the very thing that they now say should be illegal.

7 mr.fusion  Feb 18, 2015 8:49:42am

Seriously, WTF does any of that even mean? It makes no sense other than in the context of a disgustingly racist way

I swear, I can feel the hatred and contempt just dripping off that tweet

8 Shiplord Kirel  Feb 18, 2015 8:49:54am

Free Republic and many other RWNJ hotspots are on fire with the Obama as Muslim Brotherhood infiltrator/operative meme today.

When we contrast this with the bare, easily available facts, it is impossible to overstate just how delusional the right wing has become. This is not mere propaganda or distortion, it is outright fantasy and alternate reality projection.
I really think this is a new kind of mass psychosis, literally a mental illness, spread by mass media to a population that has become steadily more susceptible over the past half century .
Things like this have been foreshadowed in science fiction for a century or more but there is something uncanny about seeing it happen right before your eyes.

Interesting to note who the prosecutor of that case was too - Preet Bharara, who has been busy indicting or charging NYS politicians of all political stripes, including Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver (a Democrat). So it’s not like Dinesh was targeted because he was conservative or helping a GOPer like Wendy Long. Rather, he was targeted for breaking the law.

* Since I don’t know when Chuck received the message, I’m not sure if it’s noon today, or tomorrow. I suspect today is the more likely.

33 Minor_L  Feb 18, 2015 9:06:26am

This whole “Obama isn’t classy” meme has been around for a long time, and I’ve always understood it to be racist. So, D’Souza isn’t walking anything back by falling back on that. Either way, what he’s saying is racist.

Also, as noted above, it takes a lot of chutzpah for this guy to be telling anyone else how to be classy.

34 makeitstop  Feb 18, 2015 9:06:47am

I’d get suspended from LGF if I were to post my hopes for Dinesh’s future, so I’ll refrain.

With the number of people in prison for so-called felony crimes these days, I don’t see a felony conviction as meaning anything anymore.

Violent Felon —yes —but otherwise, it has become meaningless.

I hope Phreet Bharara is reviewing the contents of his file and sentence and passing it on to the “community facility” where D’Souza gets to hang out.

Also pass on to his therapist because D’Souza is a prominent sociopath that obviously is getting away with character assassination and is a mind-blowing racist.

No, but you do have an interest in the company continuing to make a profit and pay your salary.

But a lot of Free Market fanatics forget that limited-liability corporations only exist because the government has created a body of laws that allow investors to make unlimited sums of money off a company but only have to be liable to the extent of their investment.

That is the main difference between a corporation and a flesh-and-blood person who does not need laws to exist.

Especially if she also dresses like a slut and hangs out at places where alcohol is served and lewd music is played.

That’s pretty much because they think the only “true rapes” that happen are ones where the victim doesn’t know her rapist, it happens suddenly, and involved violence. Which is largely why every report of campus rape is now met with sneers about how the victims are not “real” because violence wasn’t involved.

Kristen Bell may have been part of the most shrill, self-entitled celebrity hissy fit that equated paparazzi photos with child porn, but sometimes that shrill, self-righteousness can be forged for a good cause. Namely shaming idiots into vaccinating themselves and their kids because it works. Via Us Weekly:

She explained her pro-immunization philosophy to the Hollywood Reporter, and revealed she even bans friends of hers from visiting newborns unless they are up to date with their own shots.

“When Lincoln was born (in March 2013), the whooping cough epidemic was growing, and before she was 2 months old, we simply said, ‘You have to get a whooping cough vaccination if you are going to hold our baby,’” she told the outlet.

The Frozen actress is taking the same approach with her new bundle of joy. “It’s a very simple logic,” Bell, 34, insisted to the mag. “I believe in trusting doctors, not know-it-alls,” she said.

Burleigh said The Daily Mail, which apparently was the only media outlet to publish the photo, badly misinterpreted the gesture as “finger wagging” - but he knows what was really going on.

“The one-finger display is the distinctive Muslim gang sign: The index finger points straight up while the thumb wraps underneath and presses against the digital phalange of the middle finger,” Burleigh argued.

“The remaining fingers are squeezed against the palm in order to highlight the extended forefinger,” he said. “The extended finger is symbolic of the one-God concept of Muhammad and is understood by all believers to be a symbolic shahada, the Muslim affirmation of faith: There is but one God and Muhammad is his messenger.”

Yeah, it’s all the worst parts of Heinlein’s stories of dystopian Americas, ruled by religious dictatorships. During the 2nd half of the Bush administration, I felt like I was shambling through a waking nightmare, in which half the U.S. population cheered as they doused all of humanity with gasoline and fumbled with a book of matches.

Ouch.

Here’s our current advisory…

The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued
a Wind Advisory… which is in effect until 7 PM EST this evening.

* Locations… in North Carolina… the central and southern
mountains and the southern foothills and Piedmont. Along with
the upstate of South Carolina and northeast Georgia.

* Hazards… very gusty winds may create isolated downed trees and
power lines.

* Timing… gusty winds develop this afternoon and diminish early
this evening.

* Winds… west 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 50 mph.

* Impacts… very gusty winds combined with ice laden trees could
lead to isolated downed trees and power lines.

Expecting 1-3” of snow and it’s starting to come down heavier, although flakes look small and dry.

Dumb as a box of rocks and all wrapped up in Stars and Stripes with a Bible in one hand and a knife gun in the other. They are pathetic.

Journalism … violent and predatory

Only when it’s being done by people that confuse journalism with being a hyper-partisan political shill for the ultra-wealthy. And if, by journalism, you replace “reporting the truth” with “twisting facts to sadistically hurt people for your own amusement.”

CCJ’s journalism school consists of classes to teach young sadists how best to incinerate ants with a magnifying glass, and moves on to drowning puppies in a barrel of sewage.

The peak of hypocrisy in the last presidential election was when Mitt Romney went on TV and told the American people that his one great achievement as a human being was wrong. He would dissolve RomneyCare. He would not do it again. He stood there and told the American people that his masters did not like that. And that his base was completely selfish, bigoted and stupid or uninformed stooges. Sad day in his life. Nice work Mitt. How did that shoe leather taste? Now we get to watch another Clown Car Cavalcade meander between insane and stupid.

Isn’t there a history of resentment going back to the British colonial days with the people of the Sub Continent and Sub-Saharans Africans?

I believe there is and I think it could explain a lot about why Dinesh D’Souza is such a racist sack of shit.

I think I read somewhere that even Ghandi thought of Africans as being subhuman.

I’m bringing my laptop but will need the phone for short calls, text & uploading photos.

t-mobile roaming charges are horrific in Canada, I can’t imagine what they would be like in Europe or Israel.

Uploading photos is going to kill you in data charges. You’re better off getting a voice SIM (locally when you land, or you can try to find some online before you go) but save the uploading anything for WiFi. Data charges are insanely expensive in Europe.

So in France, I basically rented one of these:

6-10 euros a day, depending on how long you’re looking at, I think. Then I just used wifi-based skype in/out for all my phone needs.

I think many McDonalds in France have free WiFi.

You paid $10 a day for enough data to upload pictures? Where did you get that?

I know AT&T offers packages for like $30 a month for when you travel now (they didn’t when I used to travel a lot). It’s not a ton of data but it’s something.

I would plan on doing a prepaid SIM card; you do need to make sure your phone is unlocked for accepting another SIM, and know what size SIM card you need (most these days are either micro or nano, I think). This is less an issue with newer phones but worth double checking because you don’t want it to surprise you over there.

This site goes into a lot of the options, so it might be helpful.

230 WhatEVs  Feb 18, 2015 11:27:34am

Oh, and VB…if you have a smartphone, be sure to turn off automatic download of email before you land. That will eat all your data allowances without you even realizing it’s happening.

re: #229 klys (maker of Silmarils)

I should note some of their data on Verizon is incorrect (depending on the phone, Verizon phones these days can work on other networks around the world - I took mine to Ireland and was able to get a prepaid SIM card just fine) but that shouldn’t be an issue for you since you are with T-Mobile.

I think I read somewhere that even Ghandi thought of Africans as being subhuman.

South Asian were brought in to Africa to act as administrators during the colonial period. That’s how Ghandi ended up a lawyer in South Africa. And South Asians are certainly capable of racism. Prejudice against dark skin is endemic to the subcontinent, and their knowledge of Africa is studded with English racist attitudes about Africa. I’m not sure about Indians in Africa; there’s certainly a component of racial tension in Trinidad…but again, it’s hard to ignore the way the racist tropes were set up by the colonizers, then perpetuated by the colonized. The British were big fans of “divide and conquer” and the side-effects are still biting places in the ass.

And the situation with Ghandi is accurate, but only with some provisos. Early in his career, Ghandi attempted to use English-style racial arguments about the hierarchy of racial characteristics as a means of getting better results for Indians in Africa. Back when he was still dude in a suit, not advocating satyagraha and wearing a lungi.

…but chances are pretty damn good that Dinesh D’Souza is reflecting American conservative racism. That’s the language, the code, he’s speaking.

They were awesome, btw. They deliver the package to your hotel - mine wasn’t there because the post office screwed up (I had the tracking confirmation so I know they posted it in time). They expedited me a replacement and discounted the day I didn’t have it.

I think they’re just in France but I imagine there are similar services elsewhere.

Just as a follow-up to this - if you use this type of service you can put your phone in airplane mode but with wi-fi enabled. Then you basically get the advantage of your smart phone minus the worry of accidentally downloading some massive chunk of data and getting charged le $$$.

Been using TMobile for travel to the Middle East and South America. Unlimited data (although they slow it down when you reach a cap.) Unilmited text. Much lower charges on voice. The data is worth it, because it means you can use it to navigate using GPS & mapping if you get off the beaten track (which is the whole point, innit?)

I didn’t even think of GPS because I always had a car and just rented a GPS unit from Europa along with the car. That’s a very good point.

Grrrrrr! In England…

Department Store Installs ‘Anti-Homeless’ Spikes

thinkprogress.org

(snip)

“”Rough sleeping,” the British term for unsheltered homeless, has risen in the country in recent years thanks to the economy and cuts to housing benefits, spiking by 75 percent in London over the past three. Across England, there were 2,414 people experiencing rough sleeping as of fall of 2013, up 37 percent over 2010. A national homeless charity, No One Turned Away, sent undercover researchers to 16 local authorities in search of homelessness assistance and found that the majority received little or no help.

“The United States has a far larger number of unsheltered homeless people on any given night, although of course a much larger population. More than 135,000 people have no indoor place to sleep. Many cities have decided that the solution is to try to drive the homeless away by closing parks, offering them one-way bus tickets, and criminalizing things like sleeping outside or panhandling.

“Yet other places have found that it is far cheaper to find housing for the homeless than to leave them outside and risk run-ins with the police or emergency room visits. Three cities have sheltered entire swaths of their homeless populations.”
