Republicans Suddenly Against Campus Rape: MOAR GUNS Needed

Firearm fantasies

In today’s mixed up conservative America, there’s absolutely nothing that can’t be fixed with the application of MOAR GUNS: In Bid to Allow Guns on Campus, Weapons Are Linked to Fighting Sexual Assault.

“If you’ve got a person that’s raped because you wouldn’t let them carry a firearm to defend themselves, I think you’re responsible,” State Representative Dennis K. Baxley of Florida said during debate in a House subcommittee last month. The bill passed.

Who can argue with that? Oppose guns on campus and you’re clearly in favor of rape. In fact, you’re the real rapist. Obviously.

According to Nevada Republican assemblywoman Michele Fiore, all those hot coed babes just need an equally hot firearm, and pretty soon campus rape will be a thing of the past. (Sorta like Republicans are now.)

The sponsor of a bill in Nevada, Assemblywoman Michele Fiore, said in a telephone interview: “If these young, hot little girls on campus have a firearm, I wonder how many men will want to assault them. The sexual assaults that are occurring would go down once these sexual predators get a bullet in their head.”

Remember, these are the very same people who want to force women to give birth to rapists’ babies, so you better arm up, you young, hot little girls, you.

I wonder if they’ll change their tune if some white fratster gets his winkity-boo shot off by his date. Or if some good Christian girl gets her gun taken away from her.

HA HA, I am kidding. They never change their tune.

Hey everyone, haven’t posted in a while (new job keeping me busy), but I’m becoming increasingly unnerved by the bloodlust coming from the loony right here about the need for a crusade against ISIS.

This is the kind of lunatic shit I’m seeing:

rightwingnews.com

You see, Franklin Graham wants to give ISIS exactly what it wants, a global war between the crescent and the cross. Obama, in contrast, has to play diplomacy, since that’s his job, and he probably doesn’t want to implicate all Muslims since the majority of those a) killed by and b) fighting against ISIS are Muslims. A Muslim Jordanian pilot is burned alive and Graham shrugs. Coptic Christians are murdered and suddenly it’s the duty of the US to wage a crusade. It’s sickening. It’s terrifying. And it’s coming down because the right believes it’s self-evident that the US is a Christian Nation, so logically, we should be the sword of the cross.

Godspeed to the Egyptian, Jordanian, and Kurdish military men of Muslim faith who are fighting against ISIS. Godspeed to our President having to handle this difficult situation. And damn you to hell, Graham, for trying to take the fight against ISIS and turn it into a global religious war.

This is from the Amazon Reviews of the book I linked above:

Interesting book really makes you think about self defense in todays world. I grew up with guns, hunting and target shooting so I might have a different perspective than most. Having a loaded gun readily accessable is a huge responsibility that can either save your life or ruin it forever.

I think the whacko gun enthusiasts —who I believe are different from the run-of-the-mill gun nut— truly don’t think their lives could be ruined forever. They don’t want to believe there are any downsides to firearm ownership. They don’t want to accept that most people are not candidates for ownership —either because of disability, disinterest, greater responsibilities in their lives at the time, or truly lack of need.

I will say that even the NRA has said that “not everyone is a candidate for firearm ownership.”

36 FemNaziBitch  Feb 18, 2015 1:51:55pm

When my son decided to try-out for rifle team in high school, we talked with the “coach” and one of the parent volunteers.

They quickly explained that “target time” at the range counted for NOTHING. About $4,000 dollars and a year at a local gun club that works primarily with kids (Scouts etc), we learned exactly how specialized a sport it is.

Olympic shooters and Army Snipers go thru this training.

My husband and I, both being from big hunting families, had NO CLUE.

My son stayed on the team is whole 4 years but didn’t want to pursue it in college (lots of scholarships for a relatively small sport —odds are good he could have gotten one). Why?, college shooting teams spend a minimum of 20 hours a week at the range and then travel for competitions.

It is serious stuff. One does not just go out and buy a gun and magically become able to use it for protection.

Don’t be silly. Conservatives know all real rapes are committed by anonymous thugs in public settings and never by known acquaintances or family members using coercion by authority or intimate settings to set up the attack.

42 allegro  Feb 18, 2015 2:00:25pm

When women aren’t believed when they’re raped, even with considerable physical evidence, any woman who thinks she can protect herself by shooting a rapist is delusional. She can be grateful for not having been raped as she sits in a prison cell for the rest of her life.

Great choice there.

Obama: ISIS ‘aren’t religious leaders, they’re terrorists’

President Obama on Wednesday said he doesn’t describe the United States as being at war with radical Islam because he doesn’t want to give undue credit to the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

“They’re not religious leaders, they’re terrorists,” Obama said of ISIS in remarks at the White House’s summit on countering violent extremism.

Obama argued that ISIS wants to present itself as representing a religion, which is why they refer to themselves as the Islamic State.

Of course, The upshot will be “He didn’t call them “Islamic Terrorists” verbatim so he’s a sympathiser.

There’s an article in The Economist that is worth a read: the point of the piece is that, at a shooting range, “the violence that guns inflict on America felt extremely remote.” It’s an important insight into one reason why gun advocates are as passionate as they are.

That being said, I’d like to use that paraphrased quote from Paxton Quigley. Nothing like having someone on the other side of the issue making your points for you.

Sometimes it looks for all the world like the armed/psycho right is trying to whip itself up for a massive mob/vigilante assault on Muslim Americans.
Consider, their main complaint about Obama is that he will not tar all of Islam with the terror brush (just as President Bush would not), they arm themselves to absurd lengths against this “threat” yet they know that their weapons are of no consequence in the Middle East where the terrorists actually are. They are pushing for something though, and it involves a lot of violence and a lot of generalized hate.
They would like to do this with blacks, of course, but even the dimmest bigot knows that there are too many of them and far too many white people who would join them in resisting any such pogrom.

Cristina Kirchner has been indicted.

panampost.com

“On Friday, February 13, Argentinean prosecutor Gerardo Pollicita formally placed President Cristina Kirchner under suspicion, echoing allegations made by Alberto Nisman that Kirchner and other key government figures c
oncealed the involvement of Iranian officials in the AMIA Jewish center bombing in 1994.

“Nisman’s 300-page judicial complaint was filed four days before he was found dead in the bathroom of his house with a gunshot to the head. The following day, he was due to give further details of the case before legislators; a warrant for Kirchner’s arrest was found in his waste paper basket.

“Pollicita’s charges mirror those of Nisman in attributing the cover-up, ostensibly to secure cheap oil from Tehran, to Kirchner and Foreign Minister Héctor Timerman, union official Luis D’Elia, and deputy Andrés Larroque, among others.” More

Vörek predicted that after rape was legalized, a woman would learn to “protect her body in the same manner that she protects her purse and smartphone.”

“After several months of advertising this law throughout the land, rape would be virtually eliminated on the first day it is applied,” he insisted. “Consent is now achieved when she passes underneath the room’s door frame, because she knows that that man can legally do anything he wants to her when it comes to sex.”

Vörek admitted that “bad encounters are sure to occur, but these can be learning experiences for the poorly trained woman so she can better identify in the future the type of good man who will treat her like the delicate flower that she believes she is.”

I’m beginning to think that the gun nuts do it all for the fun and justify the expense by saying “Self-Defense” & “2nd Amendment Responsibilities”. I think most of them have been “groomed” into believing it.

Oh dog, it’s not bad enough that they want to kill AP history classes in Oklahoma. Here’s what they want to replace them with:

One that taught “foundational documents” that include the Ten Commandments, numerous sermons, and three speeches by Reagan — but none by any Democratic president since Lyndon Johnson…

That emphasis would include teaching students Jonathan Edwards’ sermon “Sinners in the Hands of a Angry God,” the purpose of which is to remind the people that God may cast a sinner into Hell at any moment, so the best course of action is to accept Christ immediately. It would also include speeches by both Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush, which are included because of their “foundational” value.

Ok, this is officially the weirdest thing I have seen today.

Prosecutors say the incident started when Haragan showed up at the victim’s home Feb. 5. It’s not clear how the two women know each other.

“The defendant was banging on the front window yelling at her that she better believe in Jesus and she was not going to leave until she did believe in Jesus,” Ada County Prosecutor Dave Roscheck said. He said the victim, identified in court only as “A.G.,” opened her door to tell Haragan to leave and to write down her license plate number.

That’s when the suspect slapped her in the face and dragged her to the ground by her hair, Roscheck said.

“The defendant began kicking the victim in the stomach and thigh area,” he said. “During this time the defendant was screaming at the victim that she better accept Jesus or she would not let up.”

Prosecutors say Haragan stepped onto A.G.’s neck as she lay on the ground, pressing down with her foot and pulling up on the woman’s head and hair. Eventually, the woman said she would become a Christian in an attempt to placate her attacker, Roscheck said, and Haragan let her go.

But according to court documents, she returned to the victim’s home two days later, carving “death bin bond” into her mailbox and cutting up her mail.

Haragan was arrested Wednesday night on a felony warrant. In court Thursday, she told a judge she did not understand what she was being charged with, she did not want a public defender, and she would not hire her own lawyer.

This looks to be the original story.

Merit raises and retention pay increases for state workers — including some UW System employees — have been suspended by Gov. Scott Walker’s administration.

The announcement about the raise suspensions, “effective immediately,” was made in a Feb. 5 memo to state agencies’ human resources directors.

It’s unclear how many employees will be affected. Under Walker’s 2013-15 budget, most state workers received a 1 percent pay increase each fiscal year.

>A recent study found that more than half of the 110 mass shootings in the United States between January 2009 and July 2014 included the murder of a current or former spouse, an intimate partner or a family member. Everytown for Gun Safety, the group that released the study, found a “noteworthy connection between mass-shooting incidents and domestic or family violence.”

I think I’m going to treat myself to the nice Italian place I went to a couple of weeks ago. Hopefully the out loud birthers won’t be there again. I was freaking traumatized. Seriously. Read it so many times over these years, but that was the first time I heard it said out loud by regular people. And in my neighborhood. :(

Otherwise it’s the dive bar for something. Their food isn’t as good…… but their people so far are way easy going.

State employees would get incentive to forego state health insurance

As a potential cost-saving measure, Gov. Scott Walker is proposing that state employees be offered a $2,000-a-year incentive to opt out of the state’s pricey health insurance program.

Only about 5 percent of state employees currently opt out, generally because they have coverage under a spouse’s health-insurance plan, a study by Deloitte Consulting found. Another 10 percent must opt out because their spouses are also employed by the state of Wisconsin, according to the state-commissioned study.

336 A Cranky One  Feb 18, 2015 6:52:54pm

When working with power tools it’s essential to always respect the tool’s ability to hurt you. It’s easy to get comfortable and casual about using a tool for extended periods, and that’s when mistakes happen. This rule applies to guns as well. Hence the number of accidents by “responsible” gun owners and even trained professionals.

This is one reason I hate being around people carrying firearms. Even if their motives are pure and they’re a “good guy”, how can I know if they actually respect the power of the tool to hurt themselves and others. There are constant reminders that not all gun owners take the danger seriously; it’s too easy to be complacent and casual for long enough for an accident to happen.

My other reason to hate being around carried firearms is that too often the person feels less vulnerable and forgets that the weapon could be used against them.

So sure, let’s give young adults experiencing independence, looking to party and feeling invulnerable deadly weapons to carry casually. What could possibly go wrong? And the weapon would never end up used against them, correct?

It’s enough to make me cranky.
