Rudy Giuliani: I Can’t Be a Racist Because Obama Had a White Mom

WTF?
Politics • Views: 26,945

Yes, Rudy’s back, trying like hell to explain away his ugly remarks about President Obama and ending up sounding very, very incoherent.

Giuliani, a former New York City mayor and one-time presidential candidate, insisted that Obama doesn’t love the United States because he “doesn’t express a great love of this country” and criticizes the United States at home and abroad, an outlook on the U.S. that Giuliani tied to Obama’s upbringing.

“President Obama was brought up in an atmosphere in which he was taught to be a critic of America,” Giuliani said in a phone interview with CNN. “That is a distinction with prior American presidents.”

But still, Obama is patriotic even if he doesn’t love America, Giuliani said, pointing out that “there have been an awful lot of patriots who were critics.”

Giuliani’s definition of patriotism? “Someone who is dedicated to the principles of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” and the U.S. Constitution.

[…]

And while the former mayor said he believes Obama is committed to those principles and the constitution, he said he didn’t “detect” a love of country in Obama and “honestly” doesn’t know whether Obama does.

“Honestly, I don’t and you don’t know what he truly believes. I’m talking about the way that he expresses himself. I can’t tell you what’s within his heart,” Giuliani said.

Maybe Obama doesn’t have “as romantic a view” of the United States as past presidents, Giuliani suggested.

What does that even mean? He doesn’t love America but he’s a patriot but Rudy doesn’t know whether he loves America or not but he’s not romantic like other presidents but… wha?

Oh, but he isn’t finished blathering yet…

“There’s a real attempt to make it a racial criticism. It has nothing to do with race,” Giuliani said, pointing out that “he was brought up by the way by a white mother and white grandparents.”

Since Obama was raised by a white mother and grandparents, that means Rudy Giuliani can’t possibly be a racist?

Is there a planet somewhere in the galaxy on which this makes some kind of sense? Good freaking grief.

Dear Rudy,

GOPers like you don’t get the benefit of the doubt for any statements you make that may or may not be racist dog whistles.

This judgement will remain in place until the GOP cleans up its act regarding racism.

No love,

Me.

Who is this asshole anyway?

3 Kid A  Feb 19, 2015 2:23:36pm

For Obama not loving his country, he really sucks at it.

4 Kragar  Feb 19, 2015 2:25:49pm

Had a run in with a troll just last week who said basically the same thing.

He said something blatantly racist. I commented he was extremely upset with a black man being in the White House. He responded “I thought his mom was white?”

These people are sick in the head.

re: #2 Kid A

Who is this asshole anyway?

A former official of New York City who love of country has been boundless: though tempered by a lingering resentment that it chose the likes of Barack Obama to lead it, rather than himself.

Claiming not to be a racist because your target, while being black, had a white parent too, is a racist thing to do.

11 Justanotherhuman  Feb 19, 2015 2:31:44pm

“…he was brought up by a white mother and white grandparents.”

Just think about what that implies. At least, I know what that implies in the south, having heard enough of it.

A totally blatant and ignorant, yet common refrain of conservatives. So if a black guy whose great-grandma was white, but his relatives thereafter are black, is a white guy?

17 bratwurst  Feb 19, 2015 2:41:18pm

As I have noted before, the relationship between right wingers and matters of race is quite similar indeed to the relationship between flies and shit.

One fails to see how the document cited by the birthers supports their contention that a Hawaiian birth notice doesn’t prove anything.

This logic fail is business as usual for birthers, who are as stupid as they are racist.

This is basic othering, Rudy and Dinesh are doing to Obama what Netanyahu did to Rabin. It’s only distinguishable from true stochastic terrorism by, at best, a matter of degrees. I think they’d be quite happy to see the President harmed or killed by someone who absorbed and acted upon their disgusting rhetoric.

These people will not be dissuaded of their ideas no matter what. Whether they are birthers or believe Obama doesn’t love America or he is Muslim or supplying guns and ammo directly to ISIS, if they believe it in their heart of hearts, it must be true and nothing will change their minds.

It’s sad the shit people believe. I read my twitter TL and am amazed by what people believe.

“Honestly, I don’t and you don’t know what he truly believes. I’m talking about the way that he expresses himself. I can’t tell you what’s within his heart,” Giuliani said.

But while speaking to a bunch of frothing wingnuts at the 21 Club the other night, he did exactly that.

Seriously. Fuck him.

Rudy just did what so many of these “I can’t be racist” bungholes do. Either they just got out of a hate fest of animosity and smear and opened their mouths with a microphone around that didn’t have a clown at the other end, or they stand in a room full of like minded schmucks and the real them pours on out because the kindred spirit moves them. Pond slime has more redeeming value.

By now it isn’t just Obama that this applies to. Fairly standard RWNJ rhetoric gives a license to ‘lone wolves’ to kill pretty much anyone to the left of Attila the Hun.

That’s basically what Rudy is saying here, that yeah other president’s have criticized America, yeah other Presidents haven’t shown total faithfulness to America, but the President is “different.”

And I imagine Hillary will face the same bit should she win the nomination.

Evening Lizardim from the freezing cold wild north country. This sounds like the old “I have a friend who is black” chestnut, only even more stupid because at least having a black friend presents a veneer of respectability. “He’s half-white so my hating isn’t racist” doesn’t even compute; it’s like, what, it’s not possible to be racist against whites? How go things among the lizardfolk?

Is there a planet somewhere in the galaxy on which this makes some kind of sense? Good freaking grief.

Planet GOP aka Planet El Rushbo.

Because logic and reasoning went out the window a long time ago with the GOP on all things related to President Obama (twice elected). Rudy even attempted to run for president the first time, and he couldn’t even make it out of the primaries with one of the worst campaign performances seen in recent decades.* He just flat out ignored the first couple of states hoping he could do well in Florida.

But none of this excuses his flat-out racism and dog whistles, which were follow-ons to those by Jindal, D’Souza, West and other GOP luminaries. They aren’t trying to hide the racism, because that’s what sells to the core GOP these days - white, afraid, and see guns as a talisman against all that ails America (immigrants, minorities, teh ghey!, etc.)

These people need a swift spiritual kick to the head, but sadly, all it’ll do is reinforce their delusions that Obama is the embodiment of evil even when he’s doing exactly what the GOP wants (but wont admit that he’s doing - like in fighting ISIL/ISIS in the Middle East).

*I gave him props for trying because Iowa and NH are hardly representative of the nation as a whole, and why should they be make/break states on the election schedule, but I digress.

The problem with Palin (well, one of the problems…hers are innumerable) and what she said about Real America (tm) is that small town, rural America is drying up and dying. There are not jobs to sustain them, and unless they are working at farming or farming related businesses, there is little in the way of real momentum for those people.

Couple that with the fact that they are conservative, and conservatives have a problem with change in general, there is - and is going to continue to be - resentment because their way of life is dying.

Palin just gave it her ugly smirk, her ugly words and her ugly being as the face of that resentment. She portrayed herself as an aw-shucks, small town Alaska gal. While she is, she loves the spotlight, the city, the fame.

She is the biggest scam artist of all.
