And Now, Inevitably, Rudy Giuliani Plays the Victim Card

Predictable
Politics • Views: 23,766

If you’ve watched right wing politics at all, Rudy Giuliani’s latest statements will come as no surprise — now he’s painting himself as a persecuted victim after his ugly comments that President Obama “doesn’t love America.”

The former New York mayor told CNN on Friday that the majority of the calls about his remarks have been supportive, including from Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, a likely 2016 Republican presidential candidate.

But Giuliani also said that his office secretary had reported receiving death threats since POLITICO first published his remarks late Wednesday night. Giuliani didn’t tell CNN if he had alerted police to those calls, and a New York Police Department spokeswoman contacted Saturday said it is department policy not to release any information about potential victims.

Off-topic, but this just came across my feeds. Someone is getting desperate, I’m just not sure who.

The Defense Minister stated willingness to sell arms in forged letter

Images of a letter in which Defence Minister Peter Hultqvist stated willingness to sell weapons to Ukraine, circulating on the net.

According to the letter writing Hultqvist the Ukrainian military wants to buy at least “twelve units” of artillery gun Archer.

- It is a forgery, says Hultqvist’s press secretary Marinette Nyh Radebo.

The letter is addressed to Magnus Ingesson, which according to the letter is president of BAE Systems Bofors AB. It was allegedly sent on January 19 this year.

The letter is written on government letterhead and signed by Peter Hultqvist’s signature.

Spread on Twitter

But it is a forgery, according to Marinette Nyh Radebo.

- I found the letter this morning and got in touch with my colleagues at the Ministry of Defence. We quickly realized that it was a forgery. Magnus Ingesson is not the president of the company and is also the letter written in English, she says.

The letter, which has been spread in several Swedish Twitter accounts, suggests that Sweden should sell weapons to Ukraine’s military forces. The letter thank Peter Hultqvist Magnus Ingesson because he allowed a presentation of the Archer artillery system.

“I am extremely grateful for your presentation for our Ukrainian partners,” writes Hultqvist, according to the letter.

It also says that Ukraine may order the “twelve units” and that Ukraine’s defense ministry is “satisfied with the operation” that could lead to “significant opportunities for BAE Systems Bofors AB.”

“I am sure you will manage this opportunity well. You have my congratulations and my full support in this matter,” writes Hultqvist according to the letter.

“Of course not good”

Peter Hultqvist has been informed of the letter but would not comment on the data for Aftonbladet.

- Of course it is not good that these things spread. It was also why I went out on my Twitter account and denied it, said Marinette Nyh Radebo.

The Ministry of Defence has not made any research to find out who is behind the letter.

- I’ve started talking to everyone involved. We will look at it on Monday to discuss how we can move forward.

It is unclear whether the Defense Department will take any legal action.

- It is also something we will discuss after the weekend.

Translation by Google(tm) Translate.

I’m willing to elaborate on the points as to why it is with very high likelihood a forgery upon request.

Rudy Giuliani’s fall from America’s Mayor

Rudy has devolved into this red meat Republican base ideologue who periodically seems to need self identification,” said Douglas Muzzio, a political scientist at Baruch College and a New York City media commentator. “Maybe it is Rudy in his dotage, where he has lost whatever boundaries he once had. He sounds like a bitter old man.”

Giuliani seems to be relishing his moment back in the spotlight.

Back to Weigel’s steaming pile for a moment. Some of the more noxious segments:

The Walker cameo clearly turned this into a news-swallowing story

That’s some bullshit right there.

The Democrats egged it on.

The MBF makes its first appearance. And, yeah, great logic that the Dem reaction was to cover for DWS. Talk about bullshit mountain.

All Thursday, the offices of potential Republican candidates were asked to react to Rudy Giuliani. …a gaffe in the media capital of the world matters more than a gaffe in the hinterlands.

Ah, now it’s merely a “gaffe” and the media only created an idiotic frenzy because he said it in NY, not because it was an obnoxious, repulsive comment made by an obnoxious, repulsive has-been.

The media seemed to be making up rules as it went along. In 2008, Barack Obama said it was “unpatriotic” for George W. Bush to add trillions to the national debt. In 2004, Howard Dean warned Democratic voters that there was “a group of people around the President whose main allegiance is to each other and their ideology rather than to the United States.” And then there was Giuliani. When he spoke, we learned that it was off-limits for someone to question an opponent’s patriotism.

So much crap right there. Obama called out a POLICY, not a person’s “heart.” Rudy is not Obama’s opponent, and Obama is the fucking PRESIDENT, not some nameless politician. Holy mother of Pearl, Weigel, you are such an asshole.

This is a deep source of conservative frustration. They want to accuse Obama of radicalism…when they try, they’re accused of othering, and racism.”

Wah wah, poor misunderstood conservatives. Pro-tip, don’t want to be accused of racism? Don’t be a fucking racist.

All in all, it’s what I’ve come to expect from Weigel, who, though he will occasionally have a moment of clarity, is basically an apologist and an “splainer” for the right-wing. Spit.

The Republican party has become a religion, a not surprising result of letting the religious right have a key role in the party. It’s all about the ideology, the dogma and nothing else. Anyone who questions the dogma is treated as a heretic and primaried.

If you aren’t the right kind of Christian, don’t reject science, or actually deal with reality instead of the party line you become an apostate. This has crushed any disagreement and prevented any actual governing, since governing requires compromise and you don’t compromise with the devil.

Conservatives are the type of people that will slander or libel you and then accuse you of being the mean one when you call them out on it. There’s no such thing as actual accountability if you’re a conservative. Rudy has no desire to think “Gee I may have stepped into it by saying the president (of all people) doesn’t love America”, nope, doubles down on it and then has the nerve to make his critics out to be the ones in the wrong.

And there’s no sign of that changing. No one in the GOP had the courage to say “You know the President and I may differ on some policies but it’s absurd for Mayor Giuliani to suggest that he doesn’t love America or Americans.” Is that really so fucking hard for them? And the answer is yes, yes it is because they through enabling a base of bigots have created an environment where any praise of President Obama by a conservative politician may as well be the worst thing you can do as a Republican these days. It’s well to remember how Marco Rubio managed to beat Charlie Crist in the primary that got him to the Senate by playing to outrage about then Governor Crist giving President Obama a friendly hug. It’s funny to think that McCain’s slogan was “Country First” in 2008 because his party has been about everything but that since President Obama’s first day as president.

The proposed right to work bill moving quickly through the Legislature will affect only private-sector unions.

The proposal only affects workers in private businesses, both the language of the bill and comments from Republicans like Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald of Juneau show.

The measure would prohibit unions and private businesses from reaching contracts that require workers to pay labor dues or fees.

She was campaigning for McCain a more conservative part of Virginia and she talked about how “happy” she was to be in “Real Virginia.” It just showed me how divisive that campaign was that they would talk about that. Now contrast that with Obama and Biden who treated all Virginians whether they were more affluent Northerners like myself, ones from the more poor and rural west which sadly do embrace the “real Virginia” bs, and the many military members we have in the Tides. The whole “Real America” crap done by the right and Republican Party is one of the biggest reasons why I despise them. They’ve done everything possible to sow the seeds of hate and resentment.

Ask people who used to be part of NYC’s nightlife in the 1990s: they all hated his guts. After all, he was responsible for closing down one of New York’s premier venues in May 2001, Twilo:

The Giuliani administration has been trying to close Twilo since at least November 1998, when the city, citing the drug overdose of a patron, filed a lawsuit declaring the club a public nuisance. City officials contend that clubs like Twilo and the Tunnel, another West 27th Street establishment, do not do enough to prevent the use and sale of drugs like ecstasy and GHB, or gamma hydroxybutyrate.

But the clubs have just as vehemently responded that they are doing their part, hiring private security officers, including some who work undercover, to try to prevent drug use and violence. Mr. Sullivan said the fact that the state courts have allowed Twilo to stay open despite the lawsuit was proof that the club was well managed and dedicated to preventing drug sales.

Again, fuck Giuliani and his asshat supporters.

It’ll be a cold day in hell before the GOP does anything to expel the racists that make up its ranks and up into the top tier of its party (when you are a current/former Presidential candidate, that’s putting yourself in the top tier). That includes Giuliani and Jindal, among others.

It might be cold enough outside for the Great Falls to freeze up (well, the water’s still flowing, but there’s a nice ice cone that’s developed all around), but we haven’t gotten the GOP to change its stripes.

I got to the falls just before it started snowing, and it began to come down as we left. We just didn’t want to miss the freeze-over. I’d been looking for that photo for years but never had the time to get it.

Yeah such a terrible place.// I remember when Romney first ran for president in 2008 that he ragged on his state just to score brownie points with the Massachusetts hate that exists in the GOP base and I just thought it pathetic given Massachusetts’ contributions to our society.

So Melissa Melendez, who is an Assemblywoman for CA’s 67th District, exploited the murder of Kayla Jean Mueller with the despicable hashtag and decided to claim victimhood status by raising money on the backs of the backlash against her bigoted comments.

If she was truly horrified over her murder, she should have also called out her fellow wingnuts for smearing her in the wake of her death.

You know, I’ve never heard a Democratic presidential candidate talk about the more conservative parts of the country as mere “flyover country” or act like the people there aren’t any less American I do repeatedly though hear Republican candidates put down the “liberal coasts” because you know if you live in a liberal area, you clearly aren’t really an American nor do you believe in American values.

I actually found out that not all robins migrate. Apparently, some of the stupider ones stay put, even for the winter.

Once I learned that, I started seeing them all year round.

I actually saw a robin in my neighborhood in eastern Mass. just a couple of weeks ago. Given the weather we’ve been having, that may establish a new record for robin stupidity.

“I was met with a fury of hostility and angry replies from people on the left accusing me of spreading hate,” the Republican from Lake Elsinore in Riverside County wrote in her fundraising plea. “Amazing how my words can ignite a media storm, but there are people being murdered across the ocean, and no one is up in arms about that.”

“If you agree with me that we cannot turn a blind eye, and we must stand up to these Islamic savages, then I hope you will join me today,” she added, before asking for $15, $25, $50 or more.

Giuliani triples down on the stupid:

Just a reminder: nydailynews.com

Rudolph Giuliani was born in an Italian-American enclave in East Flatbush in the New York City borough of Brooklyn, the only child of working-class parents, Harold Angelo Giuliani (1908-1981) and Helen (née D’Avanzo; 1909-2002), both first-generation Americans, children of Italian immigrants.[15] He was raised a Roman Catholic.[16] Harold Giuliani had trouble holding a job and had been convicted of felony assault and robbery and served time in Sing Sing;[17] after his release he served as an enforcer for his brother-in-law Leo D’Avanzo, who ran an organized crime operation involved in loan sharking and gambling at a restaurant in Brooklyn.[18]

Rudy was under criminal, mob, gangster influence from birth. He prolly ought to quit throwing stones about his glass house.

And it goes back even further with Rudy’s racist bullshit. from The Rude Pundit, about Rudy’s 1993 campaign:

as a candidate for the office in 1993, Giuliani humped the Crown Heights riots like they were hookers named 9 and 11. He exploited the shit out of them, using the word “pogrom” and using it to turn whites against blacks in the city, including the black mayor.

Maher is basically a libertarian. Scratch a libertarian when they say they’re for human rights and you’ll find out exactly who they think should have human rights. As long as they can make a buck from it and those rights are reserved for them.

And, apparently while Maher tried to make jokes about Rudy, Fran Lebowitz set him straight:

…you know, what is behind Giuliani’s comments, and we’re not allowed to say this, but it’s racism. We now live in a society where it’s worse to call someone a racist than to be one.” …

(Maher) “What happened to Giuliani? He was the mayor of a liberal city. He used to be a moderate Republican.”

“No,” Lebowitz interjected, “when Giuliani was the mayor, every five minutes an unarmed black guy was getting shot in the back. It was always a different excuse from the cops — ‘he had something in his hand, I thought it was a gun,’ and it was a candy bar. It was a key chain.”

Giuliani doesn’t give a shit anymore. His political career is over, his days as the “hero of 9/11” are way back in the rear view mirror. So now he’s adopted the role of gop hatchet man.

I would guess he’ll turn his sights on Hillary soon, as Obama isn’t running for re-election and more (barely) coded racism isn’t what the gop needs to appeal to a general election crowd. Even some of them have figured this out, not that they always have the impulse control to prevent it from coming out from time to time.

And the communist allegations are so retro as to be meaningless. First, sane people don’t run and hide any longer when they hear communist. Second, communism in practice today means Cuba and North Korea. In other words, it’s a joke. There’s no USSR or red China aiming missiles at us all. It’s as if Giuliani is channeling his inner McCarthy.

(snip)

“Since Obama took office, at least 65 people have been indicted on charges of threatening to harm him. In January, Daniel L. Temple, who had tweeted “im coming to kill you” and “so I gotta kill barack obama first,” was sentenced to 16 months in prison after pleading guilty.

“Nicholas Savino was sentenced in March to a year in prison for posting this on the White House Web site in August 2013: “President Obama the Anti-Christ, As a result of breaking the constitution you will stand down or be shot dead.”

“Police, who arrested Savino a few days after he posted the statement, found three guns and about 11,000 rounds of ammunition in his apartment and car.” More

I’m not so sure today’s threats are necessarily more related to govt overreach, as the article says. As it is, according to the article, he’s still received significantly more threats than any of is predecessors.

As Florida’s first lady, she had arranged Mass in the governor’s mansion and endured weeks of bad press for a European shopping spree. She blamed politics for friction in her marriage and as a factor in her daughter’s drug addiction. A run for the White House would expose her to the spotlight as never before.[…]

Mrs. Bush cherishes quiet lunches by herself, eating simple Latin fare like jamón serrano at no-frills restaurants or painting in the studio of a friend, the artist Romero Britto, where her last work was of a little cat. When her husband was governor, she preferred spending hours touring women’s shelters and talking to abuse victims rather than highlighting her work against domestic violence to the news media. Her best friend is her sister, Lucila, who married a friend of Mr. Bush’s and lives just a few miles away.[…]

Yes, believe it or not, Wisconsin governor Scott Walker actually spoke at some length at the dinner this past week where Rudy Giuliani charged that President Obama doesn’t love America. All the hullabaloo went to Giuliani, but in terms of the Republican presidential race, a number of Scott Walker’s pointed comments about policy and politicians are not to be missed.

First a word about the dinner itself, which was generously backed by John Catsimatidis. It was the second event sponsored by the Committee to Unleash American Prosperity

Because even they knew better than to call it the Committee to Restore American Prosperity.
