Ron Paul: Congressional Black Caucus Is Anti-War Because They Want the Money for Food Stamps

In other news, Ron Paul is still a racist: Ron Paul: Black Caucus Only Against War Because They Want That Money for Food Stamps.

“I was always annoyed with it in Congress because we had an anti-war unofficial group, a few libertarian Republicans and generally the Black Caucus and others did not—they are really against war because they want all of that money to go to food stamps for people here,” Ron Paul told Lew Rockwell in early February during a discussion on sanctions.

“I was always annoyed with it in Congress because we had an anti-war unofficial group, a few libertarian Republicans, because we’re isolationists.”

FTFY, Dr. Paul.

Another fix:
“I was always annoyed with it in Congress because we had an anti-war unofficial group, a few libertarian Republicans, because we want the money to add more acreage to our plantations when things get back the way they should be.”

Gov. Walker says he’s waiting for a sign to run for president

Governor Scott Walker was the guest speaker at the opening session of the annual gathering of the National Religious Broadcasters on Monday.

He told a Christian Media Convention in Tennessee that he has not yet decided whether to run for president. He told the crowd that he’s waiting on a sign from a higher power. He says it takes a certain kind of person to want to be president.

Governor Walker says, “You’ve got to be crazy to want to be president of the United States. You’ve got to be crazy. When you look at what it does to a person and a family - you’ve got to be crazy.”

The only sign Walker is looking for is thousands of bags of unmarked hundred dollar bills from his owners, the Koch brothers.

Smell test? Ummm, not really. Union Pacific operates lines all the way up to Duluth Minnesota and has significant track ownership throughout Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas.

BSNF has lines throughout the Central Plains and Northwest too, but they don’t own all the lines exclusively.

Central Pacific actually has lines that run up into Canada. Not BNSF. CN also operates in Canada.

So, the effort to gin up a conspiracy doesn’t actually pass the smell test. Shocking, I know.

66 Rev_Arthur_Icantbreatheing  Feb 24, 2015 5:04:48pm

This is pretty fucking hilarious. The House GOP can’t do Senate math:

Earlier this month, Freshman Republican Senators Cory Gardner of Colorado and Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia made a valiant effort to that end. “They explained to us how the Senate process works, and we were glad to have some of our former colleagues do that,” Representative Bradley Byrne of Alabama told the Washington Post. “From this House member’s perspective, and I think that I reflect the vast majority of the members of our conference,” Byrne added, “the Senate needs to do its job. Period.”

The lesson didn’t go well. To do its job (with or without a period) the Senate majority will need 60 votes, and the House legislation stands little prospect of attracting more than 54. “Sooner or later, we’re going to have to accept reality,” Representative Charlie Dent of Pennsylvania told the New York Times. Dent is one of the Republican Conference’s last moderates. In the House these days, that means you understand that 54 is not the same as 60.

Speaking of GOP math. This is how to do it…the real GOP way.

By the way, this congressman is in the news a lot. Seems to be drawing a lot of heat. I was checking him out on the ‘net a bit over the last few weeks and he seems to be pretty arrogant about a lot of stuff. There was the ‘free’ decorating of his house office. There are the beefcake and ‘dandy’ images of him all over the place and much question about his tough stance on LGBT issues leading to a lot of conjecture he may be over compensating on being tough for not admitting he is gay. I wonder if he does anything outside of being in the news?

Illinois Rep billed taxpayers for private planes, concerts

Illinois Rep. Aaron Schock, a rising Republican star already facing an ethics inquiry, has spent taxpayer and campaign funds on flights aboard private planes owned by some of his key donors, The Associated Press has found. There also have been other expensive travel and entertainment charges, including for a massage company and music concerts.

The expenses highlight the relationships that lawmakers sometimes have with donors who fund their political ambitions, an unwelcome message for a congressman billed as a fresh face of the GOP. The AP identified at least one dozen flights worth more than $40,000 on donors’ planes since mid-2011.

The AP tracked Schock’s reliance on the aircraft partly through the congressman’s penchant for uploading pictures and videos of himself to his Instagram account. The AP extracted location data associated with each image then correlated it with flight records showing airport stopovers and expenses later billed for air travel against Schock’s office and campaign records.

Asked for comment, Schock responded in an email on Monday that he travels frequently throughout his Peoria-area district “to stay connected with my constituents” and also travels to raise money for his campaign committee and congressional colleagues.

Had a nice time today. Helped with a “Discover Scuba” session for the Wounded Warrior Foundation. A lot of fun, some of them were more comfortable in the water than others, but everybody enjoyed themselves. This is pure volunteer work for me, I’m just giving back to people who gave a lot.

100 austin_blue  Feb 24, 2015 5:54:42pm

Back to the post at hand:

LuapNor’s math is fucked up to begin with. His obvious point is that the black caucus doesn’t support war because of food stamps, which frustrates him because he doesn’t believe in feeding poor, hungry people.

His inference is that black people get the lion’s share of food stamp assistance. Not so. While the percentage of blacks (31%) who have received food stamp assistance is indeed twice that of whites (15%), raw numbers are not on his side. 31% of 38 million people is 12 million hungry black Americans. 15% of 223 million people is over 34 million hungry white Americans.

It’s this kind of subtle racism, which rejects doing right by *all* Americans to punish a specific group, that makes me spit at the modern GOP.

By the way, don’t post this info onto a FOX comment board. For obvious reasons.

Catching up. One aspect of the Keystone project that I think hasn’t received the attention it deserves:

Think Progress

Yeah, well, *those* people. As if they have a tomahawk to grind over how they’ve been treated by the US Gubmint!

(As an aside, given the price of crude, and how much more it costs to process bitumen, it’s problematical if Keystone is even economically viable at this point. From a strictly economic view, probably better to hook up the Bakken production into the system so that it doesn’t have to be transported by rail.)

And so we get House Bill 2055, declaring that henceforth the sovereign state of Arizona will not “enforce, administer or cooperate” if the Environmental Protection Agency tries to ensure that water is clean in any Arizona creek, wash or river that runs only part of the year.

And so we get House Bill 2368, declaring that henceforth the sovereign state of Arizona will not enforce any executive orders issued by the president of the United States or any policy directives from the Department of Justice unless they are affirmed by Congress and signed into law.

And we get House Bill 2643, saying we won’t lift a finger to help with the Affordable Care Act.

And Senate Bill 1330, which has at least been scaled back from declaring all federal gun laws unconstitutional. Now, it simply declares that the state and local agencies are barred from enforcing any new federal gun laws in Arizona.

And so we get House Bill 2058, declaring that henceforth, the sovereign state of Arizona will not use “any personnel or financial resources to enforce, administer or cooperate with any rule, regulation or policy directive issued by an agency, board, commission, department or other entity of the federal government unless the rule, regulation or policy directive has been affirmed by a vote of Congress and signed into law as prescribed by the Constitution.”

Watch Middle School Kids Play A Led Zeppelin Medley … On Xylophones

February 24, 2015by ROBIN HILTON • Today marks the fortieth anniversary of Led Zeppelin’s Physical Graffiti, a phenomenal double album that included, among other songs “Houses Of The Holy,” “In The Light” and, of course, the monumental “Kashmir.” Tomorrow we’ll have an interview up with Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page, who tells us all about how the album came together. But in the meantime, we can’t think of a better way to mark the milestone than with this genuinely incredible performance of “Kashmir,” along with a medley of “The Ocean” and “Immigrant Song,” by the Louisville Leopard Percussionists, a group of about 60 seven to 12-year-olds from several different schools in Kentucky. The group, which must have the coolest band director on the planet, originally recorded the performance last fall, but Page himself recently posted it to his personal Facebook page, saying it’s “too good not to share!” We agree.

Speaking of money and politicians, I ran across a pretty nifty extension for Chrome, Firefox, and Safari called Greenhouse:

A free browser extension for Chrome, Safari, and Firefox that exposes the role money plays in Congress and highlights key election races. Displays on any web page detailed campaign contribution data for every Senator and Representative, including total amount received and breakdown by industry and by size of donation. Puts vital data where it’s most relevant so you can discover the real impact of money on our political system.
