Nevada GOP Lawmaker: Cancer Is a “Fungus” That Can Be “Flushed Out” With Baking Soda

WTF

Nevada Republican assemblywoman Michelle Fiore, last seen at LGF when she said “hot little girls” on campus need guns to protect themselves against rapists, is telling her constituents tonight that cancer is a fungus that can be flushed out with salt water and baking soda.

Yes, she really said that. This is your Republican Party in 2015.

It’s the latest GOP alternative to Obamacare: salt and baking soda for cancer patients, stomach cams for pregnant ladies.

Thank god we’ve got that problem dicked.

Night all. Sweet dreams.

The cancer-as-fungus theory is due to an Italian oncologist named Tullio Simoncini. His reasoning? Most tumors he’s dealt with are white. Fungus is white. Therefore cancer is a fungus: Q.E.D.

Seriously, I’m not kidding. This theory is big among the anti-Pharma, anti-vaxx, alt-med crowd.

Boy she’s racking up quite a record:

In April of 2014, Fiore received media attention when she stood shoulder to shoulder with armed militia who threatened to kill federal agents during a standoff between federal agents and Cliven Bundy. Bundy, a rancher, owed the government $1.1 million dollars in grazing fees, and threatened violence to keep the government from collecting. During an interview with MSNBC’s Chris Hayes, Fiori refused to answer if she recognized the authority of the federal government.

So we can expect to see her run against Harry Reid in a couple years I reckon then.//

From the looks of the story linked, it looks like her next candidacy is going to be for Club Fed - she’s got what looks like some MAJOR tax fraud going on with her not passing on her employees’ witholding taxes to the IRS.

Fiore has had seven figures in liens filed against her

The majority leader and chairwoman of taxation (irony alert) has yet to explain — I have asked again — anything about these liens or whether she should have reported them on her financial disclosure forms with the state.

The IRS won’t comment on specific cases — I tried. But Fiore has a decade-long pattern of being liened by the federal government, including for not properly withholding employee funds and passing them on to the IRS.

re: #31 Jenner7

Here’s his endorsement of Griffin’s book:

To All Those Working for a Peaceful, Just & Environmentally Sustainable Society:

Whether one views the 9/11 “terrorist” attacks as blow back, a wake-up call, or an unjustified outrage, they have deeply affected the American psyche and our attitudes toward war, the future, and the world. As a historian trying to understand this phenomenon, I tend to view the government’s behavior, before and after 9/11, in the context of its leaders’ past actions.

Before 9/11, Bush’s inner circle of neoconservative advisors proclaimed the need for a dramatic expansion of U.S. military might entailing “full spectrum dominance” over all other nations and regions (including outer space), long term petro-resource control with permanent Middle East bases, and a preemptive First Strike policy against recalcitrant states. In September 2000, however, the neocon’s flagship think tank, the Project for a New America Century, warned that this “process of transformation, even if it brings revolutionary change, is likely to be a long one, absent some catastrophic and catalyzing event - like a new Pearl Harbor.”

After 9/11, this administration systematically nurtured the fear of further homeland attacks to justify its own assaults on constitutional rights as well as social and environmental programs that protected “the people” but fettered corporate power and control.

David Ray Griffin’s book “The New Pearl Harbor — Disturbing Questions About The Bush Administration and 9/11″ asks “Were these tragedies simply the result of unprecedented failures and incompetence as the government maintains, or were there elements of foreknowledge and implicit welcome involved?” He attempts to answer this question, reviewing the facts, studying other possible interpretations of these facts, and observing the breakdown of the official story over time.

Griffin’s status as a renowned theologian and his systematic approach to the documented evidence lend this work unique importance and authority. Although still shunned by the mainstream media, his book has already encouraged many thousands to debate the case for possible government complicity and at the very least to demand a full, transparent and truly independent public inquiry.

Democracy requires citizen vigilance, informed debate and official accountability. In that spirit, David Ray Griffin’s book deserves to be widely read.

The Adeptus Arbites is the Imperial Adepta that serves as the galactic police force of the Imperium of Man, responsible for enforcing Imperial Law (the Lex Imperialis) on all Imperial-controlled worlds. They have been granted the right by the High Lords of Terra to serve as judge, jury and executioner to any Imperial citizen they discover having broken Imperial law and the concept of due process is not one that generally applies in the Imperium. However, in those cases where Imperial law is unclear or the law breaker has committed a truly heinous deed or is of unusually high-ranking stature, the offended will be taken back to an Arbites Precinct House for judgement by an Arbites Judge, the sentence to be carried out immediately. Imperial justice is swift and sure, but not always just.

Well, Scott Walker is a pipsqueak. I think everybody realizes that. He could wind up as the veep nominee. Maybe I’m wrong, but barring a complete teabagger takeover of the RNC, the only real possibilities are JEB! and Mittens.

I don’t know if anybody’s dumb enough to try to run yet another Bush, but stranger things have happened. (OK, that’s a lie—I can’t think of any.) Mitt lost once, which is usually the kiss of death, but he was cheated out of it by the fix not working, so maybe they’ll be willing to try again. “It’s his turn, dammit!”

The Tea Party types want a “pure” conservative, meaning batshit crazy to the rest of the world. But the GOP leadership know a TP candidate has no chance in the general election, so they’ll skew the nomination to a more Establishment candidate, like Bush, Rubio, or Romney. Walker’s record in Wisconsin is a liability. While the TP types love what he’s done, the Dems can use the destruction of Wisconsin’s economy, unions and education system as ammunition during the campaign. MOR voters can be swayed away from Walker pretty easily, I would hope.

Of course, this is what a rational person assumes. The GOP has not demonstrated much in the way of rationality these last several years.

90 kg7u  Feb 25, 2015 3:58:39am

The original Link quotes her as using “sodium carbonate” to flush out the cancer, and then the author says “we think she means sodium bicarbonate.” I think she DID mean carbonate. “Bicarbonate” is an obsolete term in modern chemistry discourse, although it lingers in use in medicine, for “hydrogen carbonate.” It would be extra weird to give a patient sodium CARbonate [“washing soda”] via a PICC [not PIC] line than sodium BIcarbonate [“baking soda”] which is at least still used for some purposes in medicine, in the reality based community; although not to flush out white fungus, I mean, cancer. Also, washing soda won’t make your biscuits fluffy.

re: #90 kg7u

The transcription is a bit dodgy, so pic should be PICC, but the rest of it conveys the craziness of the suggested treatment. If a saline/NaHCO3 drip was all that cancer patients needed, I kinda suspect medicine would have stumbled upon that treatment decades ago, given than a saline drip is often given patients to keep then hydrated.

The sodium bicarb idea fits in with another woo-woo medical idea that controlling one’s pH balance can cure diseases. Orac wrote about it a while ago scienceblogs.com

The original acid-base cancer nut is Robert O. Young, who was arrested last year—I don’t know the outcome.

Cancer and every other disease known to man are caused by acidifcation. You need to go on a tremendously alkaline diet to bring your pH back into the proper balance.

Of course, the fact he thinks lemon juice is alkaline should tell you the kind of genius he is.

The scary thing is that these people, who have supposedly been educated and properly licensed, seriously believe their own crap theories.

I guess the con men are worse since they are purposefully lying and do know better, but the massive level of willful ignorance in the true believers is what makes me doubt the future of the species.

Good morning Lizards! Another clear and cool (16 F) morning in Philadelphia.

This is actually my preferred winter weather over the standard northeast 30s-40s damp and cloudy schtick. However, I do understand that points south are not used to extended periods of sub-freezing weather along with the sort of precipitation that comes with it.

And I hope things let up by next week since I am headed down to North Carolina for vacation!

There are many case of otherwise intelligent people, experts in their fields, who presume their intelligence/expertise entitles them to be experts in other, completely unrelated fields. William Shockley, Ben Carson, Deepak Chopra, to name three.

I’m sure a lot of the problem is ego. Shockley definitely had a big one, judging from reports of how he dealt with co-workers. Carson is a surgeon, who are often egotistical. Chopra just believes his own press.

Broken clocks here in the Virginia legislature:

In a vote of support for transparency in state-sponsored executions, the Virginia House of Delegates on Tuesday killed a bill that opponents said would have shrouded lethal injection in unprecedented secrecy.

The controversial measure was intended to keep drugs used for lethal injection flowing into Virginia by shielding manufacturers from public scrutiny and political pressure.

Despite bipartisan support from Gov. Terry McAuliffe (D) and the Senate, the overwhelmingly Republican House killed the bill, 56 to 42.

The bill, sponsored by Senate Minority Leader Richard L. Saslaw (D-Fairfax), passed the Senate, 23 to 14, earlier this month.

Saslaw said he was surprised to see the bill fail but cited opposition to the death penalty and concerns about government secrecy.

There was a huge traffic jam because of a road accident and it did take 25 minutes longer than usual.

Interesting terrorist news from Columbus this morning.

The Columbus Dispatch - $2.5 million bail sought for Columbus terrorism suspect; court appearance today

Prosecutors are so concerned about public safety that they want a magistrate to set bond today at $2.5 million for a West Side man accused of terrorist activities.

Abdirahman S. Mohamud, 23, is charged with supporting Middle Eastern terrorists through money laundering and providing resources in what prosecutors say is the first indictment of its kind in Franklin County Common Pleas Court.

Mohamud was arrested on Saturday at his home at 3762 Dunlane Court and is scheduled to make his first court appearance this afternoon.

In a motion filed yesterday, county Prosecutor Ron O’Brien wrote that the high bond is necessary because Mohamud “is a public-safety risk as well as has every reason to flee the country.”

The felony indictment, filed on Monday, follows a 11/2-year investigation by the FBI, which found that Mohamud “provided material support and resources or electronic devices to persons engaged in terrorism in the Middle East and has traveled to that area of the world,” according to the motion.

Mohamud is the subject of an ongoing federal investigation “that will result in … additional terrorism charges under federal law where the penalties are more severe than in state court,” O’B rien wrote.

The indictment charges Mohamud with one count of soliciting or providing support for acts of terrorism and one count of money laundering in support of terrorism.

Mohamud is a U.S. citizen, O’Brien said.

What modern people don’t appreciate is how good ancient peoples were in observational astronomy, regardless of where they lived. They had clear skies, no light pollution, and not much else to do at night besides watch the skies.

They were also surprisingly good at math, especially the kind needed to build large monuments. There is absolutely no need to resort to “alien guidance” to explain how these huge monuments around the world were built.

You might point out to your grandson that an Amish carpenter, with only a primary school education and simple tools, can plan and build a barn or a house in no time flat, using people from the town as workers. Scale that up, and it should be easy to see how the Aztecs or Egyptians could build their pyramids.

This is what I’m contending with, and I thought he had better sense. The worse thing, though, is he thinks I disagree because I’m a “liberal” when I point out that there is no scientific proof of what these attention-grabbing “documentaries” claim.

I’m shocked that Nat Geo ran a “I’m not saying it’s aliens, but..” type of show. I saw a program a few years back that dealt with the biology and ecosystem of Loch Ness. Their conclusion was basically “Sorry, kids, ain’t enough food to support a colony of prehistoric marine reptiles.”

Netanyahu refuses to meet with Senate Democrats. This is just another sign of the blatant politicization by the GOP for US domestic consumption, and a stupid move by PM Netanyahu that ignores the consequences of further alienating Democrats (who still control the White House for another 2 years).

The speech before Congress was nothing but an electoral stunt by Netanyahu to bolster his security credentials against the dovish Zionist Union block in Israel. The problem is that Netanyahu’s security credentials are little different than the Zionist Union for all of his bluster.

Both have overseen wars against Hamas that had outcomes that were decidedly mixed and didn’t actually change the security situation measurably.

Hizbullah continues its efforts north of Israel in Syria and Lebanon to rebuild, and is getting OTJ training as a fighting force against ISIL and rebel forces, Hamas continues to stew and rebuild in Gaza. That’s little different from what Livni and Kadima faced during and after Cast Lead.

The difference is that Livni and Kadima didn’t go out of their way to alienate and piss off a significant number of US political leaders, including the President. Netanyahu is doing everything imaginable to thumb his nose at President Obama, even though the President has done nothing to actually impose a peace deal or threaten Israel’s security situation. Indeed, Obama has continued and expanded Israel’s security cordon with aid for Iron Dome and not pressuring Israel into a peace deal with Hamas and the Palestinian Authority, which is unlike efforts by prior Administrations in legacy building that ignores the realities on the ground. In that respect, Obama is far more pragmatic than many (especially the right wing) give him credit for.

The right keeps saying that Obama is an enemy to Israel, but the fact speak to a far different picture. If anything, the GOP overplayed its hand by inviting Netanyahu to speak right before the Israeli elections in March, and American Jews have taken notice - as have many Israelis.

Nat Geo also did one putting the Crystal Skulls Made By Aliens myth to rest. Using powerful microscopes, they were able to find chisel marks consistent with tools of the time (late 19th century.)

That one always sticks with me because I remember watching Dan Aykroyd push his Crystal Skull vodka, and he went on and on about the “mystery” of the skulls. I think his grandfather claimed to be a medium, and he believes all sorts of crazy mystical woo like that.

Christie’s in some deep shit here in NJ right now. The courts just ruled that his refusal to pay into the state pension fund was illegal.

According to today’s Inky, it sounds like he’s almost straight out lying about striking a deal to fix this issue.

I think he’s still making noises about some Brownback-esque across-the-board tax cuts as well.

re: #189 Mattand

He’s got a deal on a deal to deal. In other words, he’s exaggerating just what was accomplished with the NJEA and a pension deal. There’s a framework for further talks, but it isn’t a done deal, and it certainly isn’t the fix that Christie needs right now to fix the state budget, which is under pressure from both the need to get the pension obligations funded, and to fund the transportation trust fund, which will be obligated to pay only debt starting later this year.

Without new revenues, the transportation trust fund is done - all revenue going to it will be paying off debt, not financing new projects. The potential framework deal on that would be a gas tax hike coupled with an estate tax break, but that adds to funding pressures elsewhere and Christie isn’t likely to take a tax hike without getting something else in return, even though the state needs the money to cover the fact that the casino taxes aren’t taking in the money they used to. Much of the state budget shortfalls can be attributed to the casino revenues dropping steadily since he took office, though that isn’t exactly his fault - the casinos have been losing business to nearby states as casinos have opened up in PA and NYC (and CT before that).

Iran playing war games in the Persian Gulf blow up a mockup of a US aircraft carrier (auto-play).

But if you look closely, you see that they’re sending up a bunch of small boats in tight formation, launching from within a mile or so, and some of the missiles/rockets fired, end up detonating well short of the mockup. They do manage to eventually hit the carrier, but it seems this is all about domestic consumption that the Iranian navy can do something, though the reality is that the US Navy would likely engage Iranian boats well beyond 1 mile, let alone the range at which this exercise took place.

Remember: if you believe in a completely literal interpretation of the Bible, then you must reject not only Evolution, but science, history, objective reality and logic as well, as the Bible contradicts them all and even itself as well in many places.

For this course, it could have been a chem major — but they should stay away from that nasty organic stuff (or in this case, biochemical applications). Still, you’d think even a chem major would be exposed to Big Bang theories and The Age of the Universe.

Sometimes one sees quotes from Augustine allegedly against the overly literal interpretation of Genesis.

The problem is, Augustine was still a YEC who believed in the literal Adam and Eve and for whom it was clear that the Biblical genealogies establish the age of the Earth at around 6000 years. No, literalism (of admittedly varying degrees) is not some fundie invention. It’s been there from the start.

And yet you don’t see in Scripture “And in the NNth Year of Creation” it had to be calculated from the genealogies.

242 Prof. Backpfeifengesicht, PhD  Feb 25, 2015 7:51:38am

Then there is the problem with the canon. What does the canon establish, exactly? Only the list of the books? Let’s ignore the issue of deuterocanonicity for now. Does the canon deal with the text of the books or not? From what I read in Metzger it’s only about the list of the canonical books.

Okay, so apparently Christians are off the hook in what concerns Comma Johanneum, the multiple endings of Mark and all such later interpolations. Or are they? That these are but later interpolations has been established by scholarship. The same research has now established that dozens of books are basically pseudoepigraphic, e.g. Paul did not really write all of the books attributed to him, only some. Unlike with the smaller chunks of text, a Christian who accepts the canon cannot simply throw out these “fake” books. So there’s a certain dilemma there. Does she accept the canon or the research first? Or does she accept some research, but not that which contradicts the theory of the Biblical inspiration?

In a few words, they’re much smarter about certain subjects than I could ever hope to be, and I know they’re smarter than the YEC, too, who base their “knowledge” on belief, and nothing else.

Boko Haram resorting to cannibalism to feed its minions.

A google search finds that cannibalism was mentioned in relation to Boko Haram around August last year, but nothing new, or concrete for that matter.

Boko Haram is plenty bad without making claims that they engage in cannibalism. And it’s not like they haven’t slaughtered thousands of people, or burned towns to the ground in Northeastern Nigeria. Capturing territories like that means that they are gaining ground, including farms, and whatever resources people are unable to carry. To then claim that they’re becoming or are cannibals makes for sensationalist headlines, but the facts simply aren’t there.

Walker is leading a crowded field of potential presidential candidates in Iowa with 25% of likely Republican caucus-goers throwing their support to Walker in a Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday. The Iowa caucus will be the first test for presidential hopefuls and while the last two GOP winners didn’t get far in the primary process, the caucus is a crucial test of conservative credentials and can help signal some candidates off the campaign trail.

Libertarian favorite Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky came in second in the poll with 13% of support while former Gov. Mike Huckabee, the 2008 caucus winner, and Tea Party darling Ben Carson closely followed with 11% each.

*smh*

An evangelical pastor who I know to otherwise be a kind, gracious man passed this sh%t off on facebook one time, even though he was at one time the pastor of a church in my area which makes a big to do about giving to the poor, food drives, etc. Not sure how a church giving to the poor is supposed to be different than society—through the government and food stamps—supporting food purchases. But in a way its typical of the kind of thinking you run into in some Christian circles.

re: #327 Prof. Backpfeifengesicht, PhD

Netanyahu’s domestic policies have sucked and poverty is a bigger issue than when he first took office. If you’re not in the tech industry, you’re getting left behind. If you’re a senior, you’re being ignored altogether. Lapid’s party had tried to formulate new policies, but Netanyahu wanted none of it.

But for him to claim that he’s somehow better on security than Labor/Kadima/Zionist Union is to ignore that he did no better than Labor/Kadima did during Cast Lead, and he’s done even more to alienate the US government than anyone could contemplate.

Iran is a threat to Israel, but it is hardly the only country with an interest in seeing Iran’s nuclear ambitions stopped. Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Kuwait, and the Gulf States all have an interest in seeing Iran’s nuclear ambitions stopped, but none of those countries have any interest in working together, let alone working with Israel on the matter (though back-channels might offer up a different take entirely). Netanyahu’s all but given up on the Six Party Talks, even though they continue, even though he offers no credible alternative except criticism.

Except that you’ve got nitwits like Mark Levin agitating for the US to start bombing Iran. Yeah, that’ll work splendidly.
