CPAC 2015: Sponsored by White Nationalists Again

What right wing racism?
Wingnuts • Views: 31,009

Tomorrow is the opening day of CPAC, the yearly gathering of right wing nutjobs, once again featuring white nationalist sponsors: Civil Rights Groups to GOP Presidential Candidates: Distance Yourself From CPAC’s White Nationalist Ties.

Today, People For the American Way, America’s Voice, and colorofchange.org released an open letter to Republican presidential candidates urging them to make clear that they don’t support CPAC’s ongoing relationship with ProEnglish, a group led by white nationalist Bob Vandervoot. Despite CPAC’s troubling history of welcoming white nationalists as participants and sponsors, Republican leaders continue to headline the conference. CPAC has included ProEnglish as a sponsor in the past, and in 2012, CPAC hosted a panel on race featuring Vandervoot and infamous racist writer Peter Brimelow. This year, ProEnglish is again participating as a sponsor of the conference.

[…]

ProEnglish has sponsored CPAC for the past several years, despite Vandervoort’s well documented ties to the white nationalist movement. As the Institute for Research & Education on Human Rights has reported, Vandervoort is the former leader of Chicagoland Friends of American Renaissance, a group dedicated to supporting the ideals of the infamous white nationalist publication American Renaissance. One member of the group described its mission as encouraging “white survival and maintaining white majorities.”

Vandervoort’s own writings reflect these views. He has expressed concern about the need to “halt the cultural and racial dispossession of the West’s historic people” and expounded on “racial differences” in “intelligence and temperament.” He has wondered how “race realists and pro-Western Civ nationalists” like himself can counter historical comparisons to the Holocaust and slavery.

I was thinking the other day that it seems like CPAC is twice a year now but I realized I might have been getting it mixed up with the Value Voters Summit.

The term “barn burner” comes from the legend of a crazed Dutch farmer who burned down his barn to rid it of rats. It is thus fitting that the head of ‘ProEnglish’ is surnamed “van der Voot”.

Remember Scott Terry from two years ago?

Scott Terry of North Carolina, accompanied by a Confederate-flag-clad attendee, Matthew Heimbach, rose to say he took offense to the event’s take on slavery. (Heimbach founded the White Students Union at Towson University and is described as a “white nationalist” by the Southern Poverty Law Center.)

“It seems to be that you’re reaching out to voters at the expense of young white Southern males,” Terry said, adding he “came to love my people and culture” who were “being systematically disenfranchised.”

Smith responded that Douglass forgave his slavemaster.

“For giving him shelter? And food?” Terry said.

They got bad publicity when they openly welcomed the Birch Society. So now they have to stay behind the scenes, but Bircher ideology is everywhere at CPAC.

11 wheat-dogghazi-bola-trality  Feb 25, 2015 8:38:55pm

It’s hard to reach out to minorities when your sponsors are telling them to get lost.

Even harder when your speakers tell them to get lost, too.

The GOP is convinced that they DON’T need the minority voters at all in my opinion. Their plan is to simply disenfranchise them as much as possible, and to keep harping on the “Fear and Uncertainty” to drive as much of the white vote as possible.

It’s their “Southern Strategy” to the next level.

Sorry to go OT so soon, I have something I need to get off my chest.

I’m at almost 48 hours without a drop of alcohol. For my ski-fanatic butt that’s a big deal. The last time I went more than two days without alcohol, I was in jail for 20 days for my second DUI in 2009. The second I got out I went to the bar and got drunk. Been drinking everyday ever since.

It’s taken some time for me to come around to abstaining from booze (I’m hoping) indefinitely. It’s been an internal dialogue of mine for a couple of years now. I’d be out on my back porch just shithoused at 1:30 a.m. and I’d slur to myself “This shit’s so bad for you, you need to stop.” Then I’d wake up at 7:00 for work. I must’ve done this a hundred times in the last couple of years.

It’s hard. But I think I passed my first test when it comes to the social factor of the sauce. All of my co-workers tonight invited me to the bar for an after-work drink, which only happens about once a week. I politely declined and told everybody that I quit drinking.

I come from a long line of alcoholics. My paternal grandfather drank everyday until he died (he died of heart failure at 79), my maternal grandmother drank everyday until she moved out of her house and into a nursing home, where she succumbed to Parkinson’s Disease at 90. Both my parents still tip four or five beers back every night, they’re in their late 60s. I’m in my early 30s and have been told by World Cup racers that I’m a talented freeheel skier. I can only imagine what’s possible if I break the mold and live my life without alcohol. One day at a time.

I can only imagine what’s possible if I break the mold and live my life without alcohol. One day at a time.

I had about a year of functional problem drinking that ended about six / seven years ago. It was after my divorce and I was living alone, working full time but not making any progress on my thesis. I don’t know what would have happened if my finances didn’t his a crisis point, but I was forced to make a change, seriously downsize and move into a shared housing situation. I just couldn’t get away with drinking much in the new digs without raising eyebrows, the situation required me to be more social and responsible, so I stopped. Now I have a drink on average about once a month, only one, and only when out at a restaurant with friends. Otherwise I don’t drink at all and it’s just easy not to.

Anyway, I don’t think there’s a magic one size fits all solution. However what really works for me when I feel the temptation is to think about my older half brother, who has destroyed most of his liver function with booze. I used to think that the film Leaving Las Vegas painted a pretty ugly picture of what dying from alcoholism is like. Now I know that the movie actually sanitizes the absolute fuck out of the process. It’s protracted, dehumanizing, and just ugly as all hell. It takes years of many prolonged, sometimes months long hospital stays and slowly diminishing mental function. Cirrhotic encephalopathy is a horrible form of dementia and it’s only one of many indignities that visit the pathological alcoholic during their decline. If you really want an image that will live with you and influence your long term decision making, google the term esophageal varices.

Good for you. I mostly stopped a couple of months ago, although from the sounds of things I wasn’t nearly as far along as you were. But it’s weird how the habit can creep up on you. For me the motivations were less noble — I just didn’t like spending so much and getting fat. Hangovers were probably third. Health and how I acted while drunk were a distant 4th. But whatever motivation works.

One day at a time.

Two “cliches” I try to live by: One day at a time, and moderation. These words have served me well for over 35 years. Sure, I get hammered once in a while, but only once in a while. Used to be every day. It also doesn’t hurt to get to talk to a professional counselor. Many of them have been through it themselves.

And don’t get me started on kidney stones, one of the worst physical manifestations of drinking. I suffered from those painful little bastards for years even after giving up hard liquor. Learning how to prevent them turned my health and sanity around.

Oh, and PS — at all costs avoid assholes! Life is way too short as it is. ;-)

58 teleskiguy  Feb 25, 2015 9:32:34pm

I’m still drinking out of aluminum can, it just doesn’t have beer in it. Just club soda.

I worked at a bar back in Steamboat Springs, the owner was a high-functioning alcoholic. One day during my tenure at that bar the owner just stopped drinking. After a biopsy of his liver, kidneys, etc. his doctor told him that he would probably die very soon, he was in real bad shape. And one day he just stopped. He had a routine. He’d wake up at 9:30 a.m. and pour himself a Ketel One and Coke. He’d have about three or four of those before the lunch rush at the bar. At 3:00 he switched to Dewar’s and water, have about four or five of those, and drive home after the dinner rush was over at about 10:00 p.m.

His abstention from alcohol was nothing short of extraordinary. Everyone was astonished. He just stopped after that reading of the riot act from his doctor, after decades of doing what I wrote above.

I asked him how he did it. “I just switched what was in my glass.” He always had a glass in his hand when he was working. Now in the morning he poured iced tea and had three or four of those before the lunch rush, and after 3:00 he pours Diet Coke, has four or five of those…

So tonight, I switched what was in my can.

Farage To Get Hero’s Welcome From US Group

UKIP leader Nigel Farage is expected to get a celebrity reception in Washington when he addresses America’s most high-profile right-wing conference this week.

Sarah Palin, Rand Paul, Jeb Bush and the National Rifle Association (NRA) gun lobby will be sharing a stage with the British politician after he was invited to address the Conservative Political Action Committee in the US capital.

Aides told Sky News his philosophy has much in common with his republican hosts, who also focus on “the battle for smaller government and lower taxes and how an insurgent party can become bigger”.

Farage will be reportedly be interviewed on stage by Sean Hannity. Now that is some A-list celebrity treatment in the nut-o-sphere.

Then, they had the young CEO of Tumblr on, asked him a not-even-tough question challenging him on the question of monopolies, and he ended up saying, I don’t know.

Comcast is part-owner of CNBC, of course.

I have 25 years clean, you can do it, good luck and keep fighting.

I’ve been where you are, my last drink was 4 1/2 years ago. I ended up in the hospital after a fall and the first thing the ER doc said was that I had to quit drinking. My liver was shot, however it did make a remarkable recovery. The drink substitution is a good idea, and staying away from bars for a while is a really good idea.

It’s essentially been spring here for the last month. The cherry tree on the walkway between here and the street started blooming a couple of weeks ago. Climate change? What climate change?

85 The Very Reverend Battleaxe of Knowledge  Feb 26, 2015 3:22:20am

I’m really hoping this isn’t going to be a replay of 2005, when spring also started in February, led into a blistering heat wave all summer, and culminated in a humungous storm in November that knocked down so many dried-out, brittle trees onto power lines that we were without power for two and a half days—which believe me, in the suburbs of Seattle is unprecedented.

Of course, I’m old enough to remember 1962, when summer also began in February, and ended with the infamous Columbus Day storm that everybody still talks about.

It’s beautiful outside here, snow covering everything, but we have elec.

I suspect the 36-40 deg we’re expected to get today will melt a lot of it, but we’re expecting the notorious “black ice” tonight with temps falling into the 20s.

Otherwise, it’s just beautiful and I can hear drip, drip, drip when I open the door. : )

88 Justanotherhuman  Feb 26, 2015 3:55:08am

Last night I drove the couple of miles to pick up the kid next door from work and the snow was blowing sideways at about 8 pm. Roads were clear then.

I think we only got about 3 in, though, maybe 4 in some spots, but it was coming down heavily. Expect it mostly to melt off today as it’s a light, fluffy snow and it will warm up above freezing.

re: #58 teleskiguy

Great strategy!

I come from six generations of alcoholics that we can trace, lord knows how far back beyond that. I can drink in moderation, but every glass or bottle of booze I pick up has an emotional baggage tag attached, so I take out the family tendency in sugar & caffeine addictions. I nosh constantly, just trying (for the umpteenth time) to change what I’m noshing to veg and jerky and seltzer so I can stay alive & somewhat healthy to see my kid grow up.

You’re on the right trail. Long, tricky one with a lot of boulders and switchbacks, but a great view at the top.

Growing up, I remember my folks keeping a bottle each of whisky, gin, sometimes rum, and rarely vodka around. Those bottles would last a year, because my folks would have maybe one cocktail each on the weekend. Then my mom told a friend that she was fond of sherry. So every Christmas and birthday, mom would get a bottle of sherry (not the real stuff, but domestic quasi-sherry), which she would nurse for the rest of the year before the next batch arrived. Mom was too polite to tell her friend that she liked sherry from Xerez, not sherry from upstate New York.

One of Mom’s brothers was clearly an alcoholic, and the other was a functional alky until he retired, then he went full-bore. Their father also had a drinking problem. My father’s side of the family did not seem to have any drinkers, but Mom and Dad grew up together, so, I reckon my parents were acutely aware of the dangers of drinking.

Those allegations by Simcox’s older daughter go way back. Some background on this criminal, in case you don’t know much about this self-aggrandizing POS. splcenter.org

“In separate interviews with the Intelligence Report, two of Simcox’s former colleagues at Wildwood and his first ex-wife gave the same account. They said that Simcox helped his daughter get a job babysitting for a Wildwood School employee and that one night, Simcox’s daughter showed up unexpectedly at her employer’s house, visibly upset, alleging that her father had just attempted to sexually molest her.

“He tried to molest our daughter when he was intoxicated,” said Deborah Crews, Simcox’s first ex-wife and the girl’s mother. “When she ran out, he tried to say he was just giving her a leg massage and she got the wrong idea.”

(snip)

“No charges were filed against Simcox, but Crews said she and her daughter immediately broke off all contact with him.

“He’s a drastic, chaotic, very dangerous guy,” said Crews. “I’m surprised he hasn’t shot anybody yet. I see him on TV and I have to turn if off, because it makes me sick to see him getting all this attention.” More

That’s in your Constitution and there’s not much a judge can do against it without the case being overturned on appeal.

There is a good case for adding various witness protection clauses to the 6th amendment, but you know it won’t be done any time soon.

Well, in Kelly Michaels’ case, not only did the judge allow the children to testify over closed-circuit TV, which was outrageous enough, but he questioned them himself, using all the leading questions that had originally been used to gradually confabulate the whole shitshow.

That he has a constitutional right to question them is not in question. The question is how to do it without traumatizing the witnesses more than is necessary for the law taking its course (I know how cold that sounds).

Good luck man.

140 Nyet  Feb 26, 2015 5:27:25am

Having studied hundreds of Holocaust testimonies (though not only them of course), I can say that they’re both extremely valuable (the detailed Holocaust history could not have been written without them, not even with the surviving German documents) and extremely fragile. Witnesses (regardless of whether victims, perpetrators or bystanders) would contradict themselves on numerous details from testimony to testimony, and the contradictions between different witnesses are sometimes barely reconcilable. Witnesses would incorporate various details that they learned only later, they would embellish, exaggerate, repeat rumors and their own interpretations as facts. Dr. Deborah Lipstadt described the problem as follows:

Lots of survivors who arrived at Auschwitz will tell you they were examined by Mengele. Then you ask them the date of their arrival, and you say, ‘Well, Mengele wasn’t in Auschwitz yet at that point.’ There were lots of doctors… they all become Mengele.”

Indeed, the identification errors were especially notorious, as the Israeli Demjanjuk trial fiasco has shown (where Treblinka survivors were absolutely sure that he was Ivan the Terrible of Treblinka, though later he turned out to be Ivan the Less Terrible of Sobibor).

My conclusion from the studies is that the general narrative is usually relatively reliable, but when it comes to the details (dates, numbers, sizes, …), the more corroboration there is (from other witnesses, from documents, etc.), the better. And of course the earlier a testimony is, the more reliable it usually is. And: almost any testimony will contain errors, so finding errors doesn’t by itself necessarily impeach a testimony.

Morning, lizards.

I asked yesterday whether anyone had any experience with online travel sites for airline tickets and didn’t hear anything, so I’m asking one more time — maybe someone of the late night - early morning crowd knows? (I’m looking to get an international flight.)

Thanks!

Ben Carson is one of those persons who thinks because “he made it” anyone else, no matter where they come from, no matter under what conditions, can do it, too.

That’s the same argument I heard many years ago uttered by white people.

BTW, I wonder how many of those recordings they’re playing for intros, etc. will be protested by the artists?

She was supposed to be on my show; I was kind of sorry she wasn’t, because I was kind of laying for her. I did not succumb, as a kid, to being enthused by Ayn Rand, and that sense of power, as every kid was at one time until they outgrew it. The old bag sent over a list of fifteen conditions for appearing with me, or for appearing with anyone, I guess. One of them was, “There will be no disagreeing with Ms. Rand’s philosophy.”

GREEN: You’re kidding.

CAVETT: No! I wrote at the bottom of the list, to be sent back to her, “There will be no Ms. Rand, either.”

So much Win there.

I have, with several sites. It’s pretty easy, and often cheaper. Try skyscanner.com. It checks prices from several different sites.

Laughing about “The Honorable” Ted Cruz a couple of threads ago (goddamnedfrank explains it here) made me think about Mitt Romney. As (former) governor of a Commonwealth, he should be addressed as “Your Excellency”. Wonder why he never insisted on that? (Michael Dukakis didn’t either, of course.)

Dr. Ben Carson. The 8:40 am slot, first thing on Thursday, first day/morning of conference. Everyone’s still out getting coffee. 20 minutes.

That’s code for:

Dude, we loved you when you ragged on Obama at the prayer breakfast thing about healthcare. We love that you’re black and you hate the president and Democrats and the gays. We loved you so much we went to amazon.com and gave your shitty books that we didn’t read 5 stars. But, the novelty’s worn off. We’re moving on. See you real soon. IIRC, I’ve dealt with Expedia and been satisfied. I was listening to the This Week in Tech podcast last week, and they indicated that after mergers, there’s only two competitors left in the field: I think it’s Expedia and Priceline. Orbitz was just bought by Expedia.

Pre- or early internet, I actually got a great deal on tickets to Detroit by calling the airline directly, or hitting their own website. Maybe that’s worth a shot. Note that all of my flights have been domestic, so I’m not sure if that makes a difference.

Hi, I’m Dr. Ben Carson, brain surgeon. I hate that Obama insured more people. I’m so despicable I criticized president Obama for insuring more people to his face at a non-bi-partisan “prayer breakfast”. The cool cats who are totally not racist at CPAC gave me the prime Saturday afternoon speaking engagement at their annual convention last year. This year, though, they said the only slot they had for me was at 8:40 on Thursday morning. They said, “Don’t worry, this is the best time to speak, everyone will be there to cheer you on.” Then I spoke and said the usual things these people like to hear. Then they told me I had to hand the mike over to someone else. You know, I’m beginning to think that CPAC guy lied to me about how cool this 8:40 am speaking slot was. And I only got 20 minutes. Damn, I hope the next CPAC is better. I wonder if Fox will have me on again.

I’ll usually start with Kayak to get a sense of rates, and then work directly with the airline sites directly to get the max rate/points (if you’re in any of the loyalty programs, that’ll probably be your best route to maxing out the points).

I’d also play around with the origination and destination airports - if you’ve got a couple of local airports you can fly from, see if changing those makes a difference (it could be substantial). On the destination end, see if changing airports might also result in a savings. But there’s a caveat - if you plan on renting a car, factor that in as well. Some airports have higher/lower rental car prices (to say nothing of the taxes/fees that can make up to 30-40% of the overall rental price).

re: #24 teleskiguy

Good for you! I come from a family of alcoholics as does my husband and we are both alcoholics. Our poor kids won the gene pool lottery. Anyway, it’s good you told your friends that you quit drinking. Now, if they keep asking you to go get a drink, then they aren’t your friends and you need to leave them behind. You can do it!

Donald Trump has campaign fever:

“Everybody feels I’m doing this just to have fun or because it’s good for the brand,” Trump said in an interview with The Washington Post. “Well, it’s not fun. I’m not doing this for enjoyment. I’m doing this because the country is in serious trouble.”

With a soaring stock market, shrinking deficit, and low unemployment, one can understand the serious trouble Trump refers to. And Donald T. is just the right man to save us from this danger. A man with the expertise of investing his inheritance into projects that made him insanely rich before inevitably filing for bankruptcy. Boom, bust, bail out, repeat. Just like the Founders intended. Isn’t it time the country moved on from the worn, Obama? I Guess He’s Pretty Reliable™ brand in favor a bolder, Chapter 11 Platinum™ brand?

Mia Love is trying to claim that they really are all about helping the poor. Which ignores the reality in GOP dominated legislatures around the nation, which are engaged in an ongoing effort to shift the tax burden from those who can afford the taxes on to everyone else - especially the poor.

That means attempts at reducing income taxes on the wealthy combined with sales tax hikes, motor fuel taxes, and all other manner of regressive taxing schemes.

Combined with reducing funding in safety net programs, and you’ve got a net screw for the poor.

The “poor” are like a lot of groups they like to say they “care” about: They “care” about the idealized version that exists in their fantasies, not the ones who actually exist in reality. Hence why they like to attack the definition of poor regularly, saying if you can afford stuff that sells for $20 at the Dollar Store, then you’re “not really poor.” If you can afford to buy a second-hand DVD player, you’re “not really poor.” Have a car, even if it’s 20+ years old and barely runs? “Not really poor.”

It’s just that easy and just that hard to quit. On the one hand, you have your brain not understanding how in the world you are possibly going to live without having a drink because that’s all you’ve known for so long. On the other hand, you have another part of your brain telling you that you can do it and if you don’t, you are going to kill yourself with alcohol. It’s just a matter of staying strong enough to get to the point where you realize that life is better without the alcohol.

And don’t forget the long pipeline that we want to build for our oil friends in Canada that will bring a few dozen jobs and fuck up the environment.

And which might never get built unless oil prices rebound above $90. And which requires eminent domain for a foreign entity to build through private property. And that wont affect oil/gas prices since the tar sands are already being transported into the US by pipelines and rail. And which creates less than 50 permanent jobs in the US.

Yet, the GOP sought to get the President to veto the bill even though he warned them even before the SOTU that he’d do so. He warned them to let the regulatory process work to its conclusion, and that he’d veto the bill because the GOP is circumventing the already existing administrative process to determine the merits of the pipeline.

But this is a GOP that flunks basic math, so it was completely expected.

In less than 2 hours, the 9/11 Memorial will be holding a ceremony to mark the anniversary of the 1993 WTC bombing. Six people were killed in the attacks, more than 1,000 injured, and it had the potential to be so much worse - had the bomb, which blew away much of the parking garage under the South Tower and Vista International Hotel been situated a few feet in a different direction, it could have brought down the Tower, killing thousands more.

Yes, they don’t want their kids to have to be schooled with the “poors”, esp w/the Black poors.

They’re disgusting and truly anti-democratic.

I went out of my way to send my kids to a school with the “poors.” They go to a magnet school in one of the worst parts of the city with kids from all sorts of backgrounds. Half of the kids in the school live in the neighborhood. There are so few white students at the school that the first time I went to the school, the office knew my name before I even told them.

re: #309 Targetpractice

That’s all the idea of “school choice” really is, the dismantling of public schools in favor of parochial schools, home schools, and other forms of education where the parents are free to brainwash their kids. And nine times outta ten, the people who are pushing it are already rich enough that they can afford to send their kids to private schools now.

Exactly. They simply want vouchers so they don’t have to pay as much to send their kid to the private school they are already sending their kid to. They want to be subsidized. I checked on private schools in my city and none of them have a tuition that would be even close to being covered by a voucher. Therefore, any poor people would automatically be eliminated because they can’t come up with the rest of the money for tuition. It’s a scam.

Oh, if private schools were replaced with vouchers, there would quickly spring up across this nation a plethora of cheaply-run diploma mills, geared towards maximizing the number of kids with vouchers-in-hand that they could squeeze in. With “modest” fees elsewhere, of course.

re: #58 teleskiguy

I’m still drinking out of aluminum can, it just doesn’t have beer in it. Just club soda.

So tonight, I switched what was in my can.

Actually a very good idea. Finally quite smoking five months ago after being a heavy smoker for well over 40 years. I couple of thoughts:

First there is the physical addiction aspect; while tough, the worst of that can be over within a week or two.

Then there is the psychological addition. For me this was always the tough one. I think the trick (for me at least) is to substitute a different behavior for the one I’m trying to stop. Never had any luck using the patches, gum, etc. because it helps with the physical addition but did nothing for the psychological addiction. I found that vaping was one way to help with that addiction. The behavior change wasn’t so drastic (still holding something and able to puff on something). I also started walking when I had a strong urge to smoke. It’s a much healthier behavior and my plan is to transition to more walking vs. vaping as time goes by. It’s been working so far. So your strategy of still drinking from a can (but not alcohol) helps with the psychological addiction a bit; the behavior change is a little less drastic.

Be careful to avoid the triggers (such as being in a bar) that usually lead to the addictive behavior. Over time the strength of the triggers will diminish and it will get easier.

My last suggestion to think about the other things you really enjoy and indulge is those a bit more. Helps to remember there are other things that bring pleasure besides the addictive behavior.

As noted above, you have a lot of folks cheering for you; don’t be afraid to ask for help. I think most folks here would be insulted if we discovered there was something we could do to help but you didn’t ask.

Sending positive thoughts your way!

P.S. consulting a doctor is probably a good idea.

RBS

I don’t see how that can possibly work. In 2012, with a crappy economy and running against Barack Obama, Romney got 59% of the white vote and lost decisively. In 2016 the economy will be at or near full employment, the Democratic candidate will be Hillary Clinton, and whites will be a smaller percentage of the electorate than ever. Barring an economic collapse before the election, I don’t see how its possible a Republican can win.

Condom maker’s share price rises as South Korea legalizes adultery

A South Korean court on Thursday abolished a 62-year-old law that criminalized extramarital affairs, and the stock price of a prominent condom maker immediately shot up 15 percent.

The Constitutional Court’s ruling that the law suppressed personal freedoms could affect many of the more than 5,400 people who have been charged with adultery since 2008, when the court earlier upheld the legislation, according to court law.

Any current charges against those people could be thrown out and those who have received guilty verdicts will be eligible for retrials, according to a court official who declined to be named, citing office rules.

Under the law, having sex with a married person who is not your spouse was punishable by up to two years in prison. Nearly 53,000 South Koreans have been indicted on adultery charges since 1985, but prison terms have been rare.

The stock price of South Korean condom maker Unidus Corp. shot up after the court ruling,

And far from failing, the ACA is registering millions to get health insurance, but the GOP is trying to strangle the program in every imaginable way, including lawfare and flat out lying about how the program was established. They’re trying to take a drafting error and using that as the basis to eliminate subsidies for millions in GOP dominated states that refused to establish their own exchanges (which are private insurance company marketplaces, but I digress).

Single payer would have been preferable, but that’s not what Congress passed (without GOP assistance). The GOP response is silence as to what they’d actually do if the Supreme Court strikes down the subsidies.

Of course, we are supposed to have amnesia that the individual mandate was a GOP idea proffered by Heritage to counter Hillary’s health care proposals. It was mean to push personal responsibility, but when Democrats took the idea and made it central to ACA as a way to garner GOP support, the GOP turned around and began calling the very idea they had been championing for years unconstitutional (so, yes, there’s a whole lot of cognitive dissonance too).

Cat invaders last night. Neighbors came over for a beer and a talk since I am feeding their two cats for a few days. The resident FOs were exiled to the bedroom for a while and their FOs came over for a visit.

As you can see, one of them took to the cat tree right off. She just sat and watched from the top ledge the whole time.

The two visitor cats went home after a while and my FOs were released. Chat Noir was sociable and hung out. Tuxedo Cat hissed at everyone and then went and sulked on the bench until they left. She pretty much was in a bad mood about her turf being invaded for the rest of the night.

The popularity of France’s far-right National Front party continues to grow apace, with a new poll placing Marine Le Pen’s party as favourites in next month’s local elections.

According to an Ifop survey commissioned by Le Figaro newspaper, the National Front enjoy the support of 30 per cent of the public, ahead of a combined score of 28 per cent for the conservative UMP and centrist UDI parties.

They have found cheaper labor in Somalia or Uzbekistan?

The UN - a completely dysfunctional organization that is unable to tie its own shoes, but will somehow manage to impose One World Government without our knowing it.

I have it on good authority that there are Russian troops hiding in Mammoth Cave, waiting for the order to come out and take over.//

What did Chris Kyle do that was more heroic than what a large number of other soldiers have done? Killed a lot of the enemy at a long distance? Wasn’t that his JOB?

Microsoft has found it in Vietnam, evidently.

GM appears to be just closing since vehicles aren’t selling in Indonesia.

Having toured Mammoth Cave a couple of times (including an extreme tour, where we were in overalls, kneepads, hardhats and crawling on our bellies), there is plenty of room to hide them.

Plus, I saw a couple of bottles of vodka at the bar there…. PROOF!!!

Nothing in his service record rates him as qualifying for the MoH. Its just conservative cheerleaders milking a dead guy’s memory.

Yeah that. I am not seeing anything in Kyle’s biography that qualifies him for a CMOH which the military has strict standards on how they award it. I think you have to have at least 5 or 6 witnesses to the action.

I heard it was Chinese troops who had constructed a tunnel to get there.

They should ask Henry Ford about that. Ya know, paying your employees enough to but the product they make?

Does Bill O’Reilly count as 5 or 6 witnesses?
