This is his same speech Walker gave from the value voters summit or whatever that last debacle was.

BTW We should show Netanyahu respect but not our own President (even if he is from a different party).

Interesting that you said that. My first thought always when I see him or his pic is that he looks like one of those kids/people who you can tell at first glance are just not right. It’s clear that they are not connecting to their surroundings and never will. That this is the look of a governor of a US state is alarming.

Alas, I couldn’t find a good Riesling from Germany. Haven’t tried the CA ones yet, but I may be forced to do that. Surprisingly, I found the best German I’ve had yet at Walgreen’s, of all places. That was 2 Christmases ago and it was pretty inexpensive, on sale.

re: #37 thedopefishlives

The only “education” they approve of is education that keeps people ignorant. This is the real reason why they push for their creationist agenda - even the true believers are afraid of Enlightenment principles wooing away the faithful. If your faith is so fragile that you need to legislate its protection, I believe you have bigger issues at hand.

46 Charles Johnson  Feb 26, 2015 2:33:03pm

Bobby Jindal says again: “teachers’ unions say parents don’t have a clue when it comes to making choices for their kids.” This is a lie.

The actual quote:

The important point, Jindal says, is that “teachers’ unions say parents don’t have a clue when it comes to making choices for their kids.”

That’s not quite what Michael Walker-Jones said. He recently resigned as executive director of the Louisiana Association of Educators. During Jindal’s 2012 blitzkrieg to revamp public school education — the bills went from filing to signing at the breakneck speed of about six weeks — the governor’s forces argued that parents should choose the style and place of education.

What Walker-Jones actually said: “If I’m a parent in poverty, I have no clue because I’m trying to struggle and live day to day. The idea of parents making decisions simply based on choice is the abandonment of public schools.” It was clumsily phrased, but he was saying busy parents don’t have access to enough information about the individual schools to make informed decisions.

47 Tigger2  Feb 26, 2015 2:34:28pm

I will never forgive or regain respect for McCain for putting her on the national scene and planting the delusional idea in her mind that she’s a credible political voice in this country. I hated that too. She really got me angry when she echoed George Allen by talking about being “real Virginia” when she was campaigning in a more conservative part of the state. Note to Sarah, when you’re within Virginia’s borders, you’re in “real Virginia”, it doesn’t matter if it’s liberal Alexandria or the more conservative Appalachian region. Her rhetoric is why I don’t like her. She’s a nut on the issues too of course but she is the most intentionally divisive politician that had national ambitions that I’ve witnessed.

124 allegro  Feb 26, 2015 3:39:39pm

Well this is fun. Watching the videos of the runaway llamas and folks scrambling to catch them reminded me of my little kidhood in Enid, OK and my best friend from those days. We used to play often at Groendyke lodge (her dad was a muckety with the company so we had free access to the grounds). The lodge used to be used for “hunting” parties - old man Groendyke would import exotics for a bunch of drunk rich guys to shoot. In the late 50s/early 60s there were still a few exotics left, including a small herd of llamas. Laurie and I would chase big daddy llama until he’d finally let us grab his halter and cop a (very) short ride on his back. That’s in between being treed by a rude mountain goat who would have head butted us into the next county if we didn’t escape him quick enough.

It’s been probably 40 years since I last heard from Laurie so for fun I googled her. No luck there, so I tried a search for her younger brother Billy. Found a guy with the same name who I thought was likely him and sent an email. Not 30 minutes later I got a response - it was indeed him! He hasn’t talked to his sister in about 30 years (not the most functional family) but it’s been a blast catching up with now multiple emails back and forth.

All due to runaway llamas. Life is such a hoot sometimes.

Et tu, National Review?

Scott Walker’s Awful Answer on ISIS

Asked about ISIS, Walker responded, “If I can take on 100,000 protesters, I can do the same across the globe.”

That is a terrible response. First, taking on a bunch of protesters is not comparably difficult to taking on a Caliphate with sympathizers and terrorists around the globe, and saying so suggests Walker doesn’t quite understand the complexity of the challenge from ISIS and its allied groups.

Secondly, it is insulting to the protesters, a group I take no pleasure in defending. The protesters in Wisconsin, so furiously angry over Walker’s reforms and disruptive to the procedures of passing laws, earned plenty of legitimate criticism. But they’re not ISIS. They’re not beheading innocent people. They’re Americans, and as much as we may find their ideas, worldview, and perspective spectacularly wrongheaded, they don’t deserve to be compared to murderous terrorists.

A Quebec judge tells a woman appearing in her Montreal courtroom she would not hear her case until she removed her hijab.

In an audio recording of the proceedings obtained by CBC News, Judge Eliana Marengo is heard telling Rania El-Alloul on Tuesday that the courtroom is a secular place, and that she is not suitably dressed.

“Hats and sunglasses for example, are not allowed. And I don’t see why scarves on the head would be either,” Marengo says in the recording.

“The same rules need to be applied to everyone. I will therefore not hear you if you are wearing a scarf on your head, just as I would not allow a person to appear before me wearing a hat or sunglasses on his or her head, or any other garment not suitable for a court proceeding.” […]

Quebec is big on not letting people wear religious … stuff in public.

Apparently, it doesn’t apply to Christians at city council meetings.

In May the Quebec Court of Appeal ruled that the mayor of Saguenay, Quebec, could continue to begin council meetings with a prayer and retain a crucifix and Christian religious statue at city hall. A citizen had challenged the official prayer and the religious symbols as an infringement on freedom of conscience. The court ruled that religious neutrality does not require “that society be cleansed of all denominational reality” and that the act of prayer by individual councilors, and the retention of the religious symbols as cultural artifacts, did not indicate that the municipal council was under the influence of, or trying to impose, a particular religion. Latest right wing talking point - net neutrality will lead to tax hikes across the board.

Except that… Magic 8 ball is saying - Don’t Count on It.

The ruling does not specifically address taxation of the Internet. And Congress has repeatedly shown an unwillingness to tax the Internet (the Internet Tax Nondiscrimination Act/Internet Tax Freedom Act comes to mind). With this Congress, the chances that the Internet gets taxed is between slim and none - even if there was an interest anywhere to see it taxed.

And no one is moving towards that - not Obama, not Democrats, and certainly not the GOP.

Now, there’s a caveat that the FCC may allow fees to be imposed, but even that’s unclear whether those would get imposed. If every state and local government imposed the same telecom fees on Internet, it would raise billions nationally, but no one is moving towards that.

So, right now the GOP is fearmongering - and making baseless claims.

“If you’re pro-life, then you need to be pro-life without exception. Period.”

Well, except for criminals.
…And potential terrorists.

re: #224 The Mother Of All Pies

Ugh, reminding me again why the Blaze sucks.

When it comes to the life of the mother, it’s easy to grant no exception because abortion is never necessary to save a woman’s life. Sure, you might have a tragic scenario where the mother needs life saving treatment of some sort — like chemotherapy, if she’s diagnosed with cancer while pregnant — and the treatment is likely to kill the baby. What the woman decides in that situation is up to her, obviously, but if she decides to receive the treatment, she has not “aborted” her child. She is accepting a medical procedure that might result in the death of her child, but she is not killing the child directly. This is an essential distinction and one that every conservative should learn, understand, and communicate.

Thousands of women who have endured ectopic pregnancies say: Fuck off.

That woman doesn’t have an ass. That’s padding.

Here we go again…

No action Thursday night on DHS funding

The battle to fully fund the Department of Homeland Security will not be resolved Thursday night — and could come down to a series of last-minute votes Friday, the day the department is scheduled to run out of money.

Following a closed House GOP membership meeting late Thursday evening, two House Republicans told CNN that House Speaker John Boehner outlined a plan to introduce a three-week continuing resolution on Friday, that would fund the department temporarily for three weeks.

Yeah, not that it’s going to mean a whole lot. But, 3 of those protesters Walker was ‘unintimidated’ by, and just compared to terrorists were my son & nephew(around 12 at the time) & my other nephew(Maybe 15).

Not to mention a bunch of their teachers and my neighbors. Like, live on the same block/street as me neighbors.

Now, this is a guy that will NOT hold public meetings. Everything he does, if he’s here in Wisconsin, is screened. Fuck this guy.

Expensive shoes, I know, but how does she manage to make them look so cheap?

No stockings. (I know the thread has moved on, but I can’t help it.)
