An absolutely amazing show

As a Todd Rundgren fan from way way back, I was ecstatic to find this absolutely amazing video of the full concert he performed in 2012 with Amsterdam’s Metropole Orchestra. He does all of his greatest songs, and is in exceptionally good voice throughout, and the audio quality is outstanding. A real treat, and worth watching all the way through.

The following presentation is a crowd sourced video production.
More info, interview and show notes AND the 2011 concert here: http://www.keezer.nl/trmo

Footage collected from consumer videocameras and HD mobile phones in the audience -12 in total- brought together in a real time full length concert registration.

The performance of the artists, combined with superb sound quality from the radio broadcast, makes the viewer forget that camera work and picture quality are not always up to modern broadcast standards.

However this sense of reality adds an extra dimension to the concert experience, making it most enjoyable to watch this unique concert, seen entirely through the eyes of Todd Rundgren fans.

So Monday you’ve got the cloture vote in the Senate that will likely fail, then Bibi speaking on Tuesday, and the need to get something done with DHS by Friday.

I almost feel sorry for John Boehner…almost.

What a find, Charles!

I’ve heard many, many iterations of ‘Hello, It’s Me’ over the years, but this is without doubt the hugest version ever.

Thank you. Sharing this with my fellow TR fans all over the place.

9 ObserverArt  Mar 1, 2015 4:08:28pm

Is there one single day the wingnutosphere does not go into full on overdrive and bite on something outrageous?

The RWNJs seem to always be foaming at the mouth. I fear what some of them are going to do with themselves after Obama is out of office and he hasn’t done anything they have feared he would do over 8 full years.

I do not understand how someone involved in all that crap doesn’t have the ability to take a moment to hover above it all to see how crazy they all look.

They said they wouldn’t be that crazy this time around. Heh. They are more crazy and we still have the real pressure of an election which will really ramp up the nutty talk.

Next year is not going to be fun for the sane among us. Thank god Charles runs a pretty good island for all to hang out on while the rest go off the deep end.

Meanwhile, he’s busy tweeting that he had “productive” meetings with representatives from Ukraine. By productive, he must mean photo op, because that’s the only thing to come of the meeting so far.

But he must be redefining productive down, since his caucus can’t pass anything more than bills by crisis, and only for a week at a time, as though the underlying realities will change in 7 days.

11 bratwurst  Mar 1, 2015 4:20:40pm

In this video you will also be enjoying the vocals of Mathilde Santing. She is a well known Dutch songtress who has covered Rundgren many times…and is basically the reason he is well known enough in The Netherlands to be invited to do this show.

12 Charles Johnson  Mar 1, 2015 4:21:26pm

The version of “Pretending to Care” in this concert actually is superior to the recorded version, IMO. It’s originally from “A Cappella,” his all-voice album, but the orchestra brings something amazing to the song.

I vote tequila. ChuckC probably heard lurid tales about it all through high school and has been trying to live them out ever since. Rum, otoh, is a Caribbean product and none of his friends could plausibly claim to have sampled that in its native environment. As for gin, Chuck may not even be sure it is an alcoholic beverage.

What gets me is that the media wants to debate whether we should ask GOP candidates if they believe in evolution, rather than asking why anybody would have reason to believe they’re not. Perhaps because the latter question would lead to the very uncomfortable truth that the “Big Tent” of the GOP now has a sign on the front saying “You must be this fanatical to enter” next to a picture of Pat Robertson.

Asking about evolution is NOT asking about religion. It’s the exact opposite — at least for any halfway intelligent person. As Galileo said: The Bible is a book about how to go to Heaven, not about how the Heavens go.

How is this still an issue in 2015? If the Vatican has made its peace with science (along with the rest of the developed world), how on earth can a major political party of the world’s most powerful country not have figured this out?

Perhaps the reason the GOP has been so insistent on slapping “Islamic” on our enemies because they fear that, without such a label, people might have a difference telling apart the beliefs of our enemies and the beliefs of Republicans.

Because the media wants to maintain the illusion that the GOP is a “serious” political party in order to keep the horse race election going. The next stop on this crazy train is to find some Democrat somewhere who says he doesn’t believe in evolution and say “It’s not a viewpoint limited to one party” or some such mealy-mouthed BS.

Of course, another thing to bear in mind is where the latest round of questions about evolution began, namely Scott Walker’s journey across the pond. With him being the current frontrunner and the newly appointed unicorn of the “moderate” faction of the press, the fear that questions about evolution might trip him up and hurt him in the general no doubt are guiding this desire to avoid the subject.

A little girl I know equates the Vet’s office with Heaven. AS that is where her parents took the dog when it was time for him to go to heaven. Now, everytime they go for a different pet’s check-up or heartworm test, she asks if they are going to pick-up and bring home the dog that went to heaven.

:(

For a while when I was 4 or 5 I had the idea that the Bible stories I heard in Sunday school were happening in heaven in the present day. Each new lesson was essentially an update on the week’s events in the celestial realm. This impression was helped by the illustrations I saw in our books, since the terrain, buildings, and clothes in these bore no resemblance to anything in any part of the Earth I had seen up to that time.

Since the media is asking wingnuts what questions they don’t want to see addressed in the debates, perhaps they should just ask for a list. I’m sure items like “How do you intend to balance the budget while starting a new war and cutting taxes?” and “What proposal do you have to replace the Affordable Care Act do you have to offer besides ‘Don’t get sick’?” would be on that list.
