Edward Snowden Blinks - Wants to Return to the US and Face Trial

But can’t resist implicitly bashing the US
World • Views: 38,944

After months of pretending to really enjoy living in Russia, Edward Snowden is reportedly blinking.

“With a group of lawyers from other countries, we are working on the question of his return to America,” Kucherena said.

“Snowden is ready to return to the States, but on the condition that he is given a guarantee of a legal and impartial trial,” he said.

The lawyer said Snowden had so far only received a guarantee from the US Attorney General that he will not face the death penalty.

I wonder why Ed thinks he needs to receive special guarantees for something every American is guaranteed under the US Constitution? Maybe he’s been living in Russia a bit too long.

on the condition that he is given a guarantee of a legal and impartial trial

Because he can always say that there is no chance of that and that will be his eternal excuse.

Prove me wrong, Ed.

Maybe Eddie boy has come to the realization that he’s outlived his usefulness as a propaganda tool, and the murder of Boris Nemtsov sort of made him see the light.

Better to return to the US and stand trial then be gunned down in the street in Moscow.

Besides, if he returns to the US, he can get a full serving of martyr cookies from his adoring fans!

5 lawhawk  Mar 3, 2015 11:41:50am

And just this morning I had a fanboy claiming that Snowden fled the US because he feared he’d be tortured and be unable to get a fair trial.

Yeah, I can’t imagine why Snowden would have a change of heart. Maybe something about Nemtsov comes into play, or that the FSB has let him know that rent’s about to come due?

Either way, he’s working out a deal to get back to the US where he can stand trial for his treachery. You know, for stealing classified documents (espionage) and providing them to third parties (media, foreign governments) that were not supposed to have them.

6 Jack Burton  Mar 3, 2015 11:44:23am

I’m undecided on whether this is a good thing or not. There are way too many otherwise rational people who have bought the ‘whistleblower’ narrative hook, line, and sinker and I see Snowden using this to make a big activist bullshit statement or turn himself into a martyr for the left-libertarian dudebro political philosophy.

7 The Very Reverend Battleaxe of Knowledge  Mar 3, 2015 11:44:33am

The lawyer said Snowden had so far only received a guarantee from the US Attorney General that he will not face the death penalty.

Was it necessary to say that? The only conceivable capital charge would be treason. Did he “Levy war against the United States” or “Adhere to their enemies”?

8 HappyWarrior  Mar 3, 2015 11:44:49am

Change of heart huh. I really don’t have any sympathy for him because A) he knew what he was getting into working with the NSA, B) to go with that, the whole feign of outrage about the NSA’s activities all the while he has exile in a nation like Putin’s Russia, and C.) the attempts to link him with actual whistleblowers.

I am imagining this line of logic: a lot of Putin fans out there are calling Nemtsov’s assassination a “False Flag” operation conducted by the CIA to make Putin look bad.

Turn the logic on its head: why should Putin not have S gunned down so it can be blamed on “CIA Operatives”?

I would like to see this fellow face a fair trial. If there are mitigating circumstances to warrant what he did, let it all be known.

That’s exactly what I would like to ask Scalia or Thomas if I ever met them. It’s absurd. The whole nonsense of “If it’s not in the Constitution, the government can’t do it” is just nonsense and if we had actually operated that way, we would probably be on our 10th Constitution today. If we instead use the Constitution as a framework rather than treating it as sacred text that must be followed word for word, we get shit done.

Its tiered admin settings, and because of the way they implemented it to “avoid users messing up the settings”, this dipshit has higher privileges than the admins who’ve been on the team for years.

He’s also pulling another specialty of his. He’s giving the real admins conflicting info separately, so each one thinks they’re the only one applying fixes while they’re overwriting each others work, each one slightly different than the others. We’re spread out across 3 time zones, and some people work remotely, so even under the best conditions, coordination can be hard.

And of course, while this is going on, he won’t return telephone calls or emails until everyone else goes home for the day.

Let me guess: this guy is a DOD employee while the rest of you are contractors.

Not in any way a case in point of what I mentioned above (as no one does or should give a rat’s ass about anything Chomsky says outside of the field of linguistics and formal languages), but there are plenty of people who are otherwise rational in politics that believe this nonsense.

The corporation I used to work for was a manufacturing company with factories in about 7 states. Different divisions and different products. I would travel to and from them weekly and watched the time motion guys, and the purchasing people and logistics and just about anyone who had any say in anything just fuck with things. It would be like some manager would run out with his hair on fire screaming “Paint it BLUE!!!!” Then they would spend time and money and production loses to paint everything BLUE. Until another manager 6 months later would run in flames down the aisles screaming “Paint it YELLOW!!!” and off we would go. It went around in a circle in one plant over the course of about 15 years where it ended up just as it was in the beginning. Management.

And many of these people feel exactly the same way about Chelsea Manning, Julian Assange, and Barrett Brown. The narrative has been owned, and won by the dudebro-moonbat convergence.

I don’t think there’s any convincing them otherwise and a big show trial of this clown will only strengthen that. I think it would be best if we let Putin throw him under the bus now that he’s no longer useful.

Would a sit-down strike by the team get the manager’s boss’s attention? Or is that going over the line and challenging corporate discipline?

The email yesterday “CHECK ALL SETTINGs IMMEDIATELY!”

So I go in and check stuff today, find some errors, ask about them, then notice my latest work was getting disabled.

I email the admins and manager to ask what is going on:

“Why didn’t you wait until we finished making our changes?”

I replied back by attaching their email from yesterday.

I already told our technical lead that I’m doing one more god damn thing on the systems today.

The DOJ investigation is likely resulting in no federal civil rights charges against Wilson for killing Brown.

But the separate DOJ investigation into Ferguson found systemic racism and racial profiling - Ferguson will either have to enter into a consent agreement, or be sued. Most municipalities that find themselves in this situation enter into consent agreements.

I expect Ferguson to enter into the consent agreement, which will likely include firing the police form/reforming the FPD, changing municipal policies, and taking other steps to reduce treating minorities as a piggy bank for municipal leaders/govt.

I’ve given up hope of any indictment on Wilson given that McCulloch poisoned that well big time but it seems to me that DOJ wants to prevent future tragedies. Really hoping they can fix the problems.

133 DarknSilentNight  Mar 3, 2015 6:54:24pm

Evening, all. Kinda new here. Just want to drop a few points on Eddie-baby.
1) I want him to ABSOTIVELY, POSILUTELY get a completely FAIR AND IMPARTIAL trial. Why? Because I don’t want that little turd to get anything removed on appeal. I want no one to have ANY ammunition to say, “It was unfair!” I realize that will still happen, but I want it minimized to the greatest extent possible.
2) I’m concerned that if he does come back, there might be gun battles in the DOJ over who gets to prosecute him. The same thing happened with John Gotti. (Yes, I realize that is ancient history, but it’s all I have right now.) I’m concerned that the politics might get mixed into this and we won’t have the most effective prosecution possible.
3) Do not worry about Eddie getting any money out of this. I believe there is ample precedent that you cannot profit from criminal misdeeds. Something tells me that if that were to happen, the FBI and a few other agencies would show up with some financial eggheads to put the kibosh on it.
