In Which Chuck C. Johnson Tries to Go to a Boehner Fundraiser, Ends Up Being Questioned by Police

For some reason they thought he might be a threat
Wingnuts • Views: 34,217

Yesterday, our stalker pal Chuck C. Johnson proudly announced on Twitter that he was headed to a fundraiser for John Boehner in Bakersfield, California:

Chuck obviously yearns for access to the corridors of power — but this little excursion to play with the big boys didn’t exactly go as planned. In fact, it can only be described as yet another massive fail for the Ginger Avenger:

Chuck concluded his tweets by posting the business card of the Capitol Hill police; his souvenir of another triumph of high-IQ right wing journalism.

Of course you’re not in trouble upchuck, they realized you’re too stupid to be able to be trouble.

There was some confusion. I got the wrong invitation to the event in Bakersfield when I should have gone to the Fresno one.

Oh, someone else’s fault then. Ok.

There are some rumors coming from journos that all the accreditations for all events planned for the next few days are being annulled [apparently meaning the events won’t take place]. Take it with a large spoon of salt though.

15 goddamnedfrank  Mar 15, 2015 3:38:16pm

This was all payback by Kevin McCarthy’s staffers. They had Valadao’s people purposefully send him the wrong invite so the Capitol Police would tie up Chuck allowing GOP ninjas to do butt stuff to his car and plant listening devices in his Teddy Ruxpin.

I’m actually leaning halfway in this direction. Valadao and McCarthy are Republican Congressmen in neighboring districts. The fundraiser was held in Bakersfield, McCarthy’s district. Chuck accused McCarthy and Renee Ellmers of having an affair, based on nothing but his assertions of anonymous innuendo.

I’m not saying that they fucked with him on purpose, but it actually wouldn’t surprise me in the least if they did. It’s kind of hard to believe that they wouldn’t have allowed him in if it was an honest mixup and he had a legit invite to the Fresno event from a day earlier. Having the Capitol Police caramelize his onions smacks of deliberate hazing.

Yep, it seems that whether it was an intentional effort to fuck with him or not, someone in charge knew exactly who Chuck was and did not want him going inside. An operation like that, if they did screw up and send the invite to the wrong event, would usually own it rather than needlessly alienate a supporter. Whether it was premeditated ratfucking or just an opportunistic rejection it’s actually pretty hard to read this as anything other than Republicans are getting really sick of his shit.

Oh I know. It’s just that I read about an incident that actually happened at my alma mater where they accepted a black pledge because he “sounded” white and “could actually speak English.” Turned out that their president who was part of student government was actually tossed out for some bigoted language about immigrants. This while I was there I’m pretty sure or right around when I graduated. Not really surprised unfortunately. Youth for Western Civ had a GMU chapter and that economics department at Mason with its Austrian School roots is bound to breed a few racist assholes.

86 freetoken  Mar 15, 2015 5:06:47pm

In other news, we’ve mentioned before about the scariness of “DNA” and such, now the monster is getting a new gig:

Call for Germline Editing Moratorium

Gene-editing technologies should not be used to edit human eggs, sperm, or embryos, Edward Lanphier, chairman of the Alliance for Regenerative Medicine in Washington, DC, and four other researchers argued in a Nature commentary published this week (March 12). Lanphier told MIT Technology Review that the statements he and his coauthors make in their comment reflects the views of his entire organization, which includes some 200 members and represents companies working on gene and cell therapy, including GE Healthcare and Johnson & Johnson.

“In our view, genome editing in human embryos using current technologies could have unpredictable effects on future generations,” Lanphier and his coauthors wrote. “This makes it dangerous and ethically unacceptable.” Moreover, they added, such techniques could potentially be used for nontherapeutic modifications, as implied by the headline of a recent MIT Technology Review article, “Engineering the Perfect Baby,” which noted that experiments involving the editing of human embryos are “pending publication.”

[…]

Different publications will handle this subject differently of course, and I expect a lot of scare stories.

Note how the simple mitochondrial replacement recently done in the UK cried of “3 parent babies” which claim is fundamentally inaccurate and led many readers astray.

Humans are not rats or other (experimental) organisms, and this is not something we want to do,” Lanphier said in an interview. “The research should stop.”

I suspect that it’s not the issue of human uniqueness - which is a creationist argument, not a biological one - that is the worry , but outcries of EUGENICS! might be too much blow-back for American scientists and other scientists living in nations with elected legislators who might call for hearings.

Do you think it’s related to the increase in age for legal alcohol consumption and purchasing? I’ve approached that subject like I do the criminalization of pot in that I think it’s created for our youth a certain taboo about alcohol that results in abuse.that would not happen in a society if it were at the age of 18.

I think the alcohol abuse in college would probably still be there. There is a forbidden fruit / underground factor due to the higher drinking age. But there is a long-standing cultural attitude in colleges towards drinking and being free of parental control.

If the drinking age was still 18 I think there would still be alcohol issues at colleges. However, the environment would also be modified since younger students would be clubbing or drinking in bars instead of depending on older purchasers or the underground party scene provided by fraternities.* Such a modified environment would probably still require universities to pay a lot more attention to the issue from an education and public safety standpoint. And we’d have students dying in car accidents, etc. coming home from bars.

Whether this would cause the fraternities to move away from using alcohol as part of abusive practices? Not sure.

* - And I think this is one area where fraternities have massively hurt themselves. Being the social scene may make them popular, but it heavily distracts from their proclaimed goals of creating gentlemen and being an academic and developmental asset to their members. (Speaking in broad generalities based on personal experience. Your fraternal experience may vary.)

It’s a good question.

But also probably a very complicated one stemming from a lot of variables. Colleges moving away from “en loco parentus” (sp) status. Better research and reporting finding more cases that were previously not reported. A societal shift towards viewing alcohol consumption as more dangerous and meriting more control. Fraternities moving away from having “house mothers” or other sources of mature oversight. Etc.

The 60’s and 70s were very damaging to fraternities in terms of membership and possibly led to a lowering of standards as well. It’s hard to tell without a lot more research. And then you face the issue that fraternities are not monolithic. Colleges have different fraternal environments, and then the individual chapters develop different characteristics and internal environments as well. And these vary by time as well.

Yeah there’s a lot of variables at play here. And you’re right about fraternities being different at different colleges and I’d add that different frats are of course different too.

For anyone who was curious about how the last installment of the Robert Durst doc on HBO ended (again I say, it was a good show, but realllllly drawn out—6 episodes—could have done it in two)

On HBO’s ‘The Jinx,’ Robert Durst Says He ‘Killed Them All’

His arrest on Saturday in the New Orleans Marriott on Canal Street was in connection with Ms. Berman’s death, though the Westchester authorities said they are still investigating him in his wife’s case. Mr. Durst was walking toward an elevator and mumbling to himself when F.B.I. agents intercepted him at the hotel, a law enforcement official briefed on the investigation said.

re: #169 CuriousLurker

From a special report by the SPLC in 2013, pages 15-16:

The ACLJ is led by Jay Alan Sekulow, a messianic Jew and a former general counsel for Jews for Jesus; his son, Jordan, began serving as executive director after a stint on Mitt Romney’s unsuccessful 2012
presidential campaign. Sekulow argues that “Satan’s legions” have “perverted” the First Amendment to the detriment of Christians, and says that Christians face persecution today. “If you are a God-fearing Christian, then powerful forces in our culture say YOU are the dangerous radical that needs to be censored, chastised and even punished!” Sekulow wrote in 2009. “It is as if ‘open season’ has been declared in the courts on Christians.”

The group has a strong international focus, representing clients not only in the U.S. but also in “international tribunals around the globe.” It has affiliates in France, Israel, Kenya, Pakistan, Russia, South Korea and Zimbabwe, where a new constitution is being drafted. The ACLJ is involved in that drafting and has allied itself with the human rights-violating Mugabe regime. It has also worked in Kenya to criminalize gay sex. Political Research Associates, a liberal group that analyzes the far right, has described it as “the key organization involved in ensuring African constitutions and laws criminalize homosexuality.” [.,..]

Jeb has hired the son, who has not been as successful as the father Sekulow, but still, Jeb knows he needs to get the religious right to vote for him, and the ACLJ is a way to do it.

I think this Sekulow business shows once again how ingrained these religious family business can be, in our society. The more famous father-son Graham duo is the best example, but case after case illustrate that the religions business is often handed down.

I guess this has to do with “branding” also.

Jeb can bring on the Sekulow/ACLJ brand just as say a sports team can bring on Pepsi or Wells Fargo.

Since I had my gear with me for the trip I got the camera out for a few shots. I guess that’s the new Marine One. Maybe I saw one of them leaving. That shot is not cropped at all. Near the documentary’s end, the filmmakers were packing up their equipment when Mr. Durst asked to use the bathroom. He did not remove his wireless microphone as he closed the door, however, and began to whisper to himself.

More than two years passed after the interview before the filmmakers found the audio.

Here’s the thing about that clown committee investigating whether Obama was somehow involved in the Israeli elections.

Assume for a second that he was. So the fuck what? You can do it in, say, Ukraine but not in Israel? It’s foreign policy, deal with it. If Obama was somehow involved (which I don’t believe) all I can say is, good for him.

I’m not sure which I marvel more: That Congress magically decided to launch this investigation the day after Bibi goes off on a wild rant about how there’s a vast conspiracy against him, or that Congress plans to investigate whether the US government attempted to influence the government of a foreign power.

Apparently the latest nattering amongst the wingnuts about “Emailghazigate” (HT: Rawstory) has to do with whether Hillary signed a OF-109, declaring that its standard practice for all departing State Department employees, and that if she did then she’s committed a felony by retaining official emails on a private server.

Thing is, just looking at the text of the OF-109 I keep seeing quoted, any charges against her would be thin gruel and largely dependent on producing proof that she intended to conceal or destroy official documents by not immediately turning over those emails at the time she left office.

Well, no. The St. Louis County Police caught him and according to the County Prosecutor he confessed (though that’s the same guy who ran the Darin Wilson grand jury so take he words for what you think they’re worth). He’s been charged with two counts of first-degree assault, as opposed to attempted murder, which looks like part of a plea-deal to me.

So the shooter is bound for prison for a good long while, which he deserves. But the police acted professionally is catching him and the prosecutor resisted the temptation to throw the book at him. That’s how it ought to be done.

240 Targetpractice  Mar 16, 2015 4:04:47am

He may very well have decided that, given the way the system operates in Ferguson, he’d rather take a prison stretch that sees him out before he’s 60 versus trying to challenge two attempted murder charges and ending up in there for life.

It’s not just Bibi, apparently Likud and its allied parties are losing seats. There was initially an assumption that seats lost by Likud would be picked up by the right-wing parties, allowing him to still put together a viable coalition. But with those parties also losing seats, some might not even make the 4 seat threshold. And if that’s the case, then Bibi would have a hell of a time stitching together a coalition government and would be more likely to face another election in the near future.

Democrats prepared to buck White House on Iran nuclear deal
The damage from Tom Cotton’s letter has been contained, lawmakers of both parties say.
By Burgess Everett
3/15/15 1:02 PM EDT, Updated 3/15/15 8:05 PM EDT

Even as the White House ramps up pressure on Congress to stay out of its negotiations with Iran on a nuclear agreement, Republicans are on the brink of veto-proof majorities for legislation that could undercut any deal.

And that support has held up even after the uproar last week over the GOP’s letter to Iranian leaders warning against an agreement.

Though several Democratic senators told POLITICO they were offended by the missive authored by Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), none of them said it would cause them to drop their support for bills to impose new sanctions on Iran or give Congress review power over a nuclear deal.

That presents another complication for the administration ahead of a rough deadline of March 24 to reach a nuclear agreement with the country.

“The letter’s incredibly unfortunate and inappropriate,” said Sen. Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota, a centrist Democrat who voted for the sanctions bill in committee and is a sponsor of the congressional approval legislation. “That doesn’t diminish my support for the legislation that we introduced.”

No, it just demonstrates that the Senate doesn’t trust the State Department and wants to make sure Iran is promptly punished if it cheats on any terms of an agreement or balks at its implementation. Which seems proper to me. It’s just the Senate insisting on its prerogatives.

You do realize, don’t you, that these are not just bilateral US/Iran negotiations, right? France, Germany, the UK, Russia and China are all sitting at that table with them. If all those countries come to an agreement, and it’s the US Senate scuttles it, there will be no sanctions. At all. The only reason there’s sanctions is because lots of countries agreed to it; they can unagree just as quick.

Except the State Department and the administration are not the only parties to these talks, as already noted. There are six countries who are negotiating with Iran on this deal, and it will be backed by a UN Security Council mandate, just as the sanctions that led to these talks were.

I also think the presidency has gotten too powerful, and I want it cut down a bit. I’m prepared to accept a nuclear Iran in order to do this.

I’m not sure how I’m supposed to trust anything you say that you believe.

Or to put it another way: You believe this today. If the GOP and your friends and family changed their opinion on this, I think that you would too, just as your opinion on Romney immediately reversed itself when he was nominated. Remember how shortly before his nomination you gave very cogent critical reasons why Romney wasn’t suited for the presidency and then shortly afterwards completely dropped those criticisms and began to support him?

If you do this sort of thing often enough—as the GOP in general has—there is no reason to actually trust that your opinion is going to remain the same. It generally is going to be “Whatever is against Obama, I’m for.”

So suppose we find ourselves, three years hence, with a Republican president presented with the opportunity to negotiate a deal with Iran that will see all of the demands Republicans want fulfilled, from abandonment of uranium enrichment to renouncing support of terrorism. You would approve of Senate Democrats being able to vote down that deal?

As Obdi noted, the reality is you wouldn’t and I don’t think any sane person really would approve of such a situation.

Thing is, that “better deal” is not going to happen, certainly not if Iran thinks that any negotiations it conducts with the White House can be undone by a Senate opposition that is focused on politics and not national security. Nor will our allies agree to be party to this much longer if they feel that they are being dragged into an inevitable war.

I take any scrap of good news I can get these days. And the rapidly collapsing situation for Bibi is good news indeed.

I’d be pleased as well. But it looks like Bibi is losing his cachet because he’s not ‘tough enough’ to deal with ‘Israel’s problems.’ So the electorate is shifting further right.

Not good for Israel. Not good for the Middle East. Not good for America.

293 Romantic Heretic  Mar 16, 2015 6:41:31am

re: #256 Targetpractice

It’s not just Bibi, apparently Likud and its allied parties are losing seats. There was initially an assumption that seats lost by Likud would be picked up by the right-wing parties, allowing him to still put together a viable coalition. But with those parties also losing seats, some might not even make the 4 seat threshold. And if that’s the case, then Bibi would have a hell of a time stitching together a coalition government and would be more likely to face another election in the near future.

Hmmm. Haven’t seen that. What I’ve seen indicates the opposite.

But, hopefully, I could be wrong. Still, I haven’t seen a really liberal and progressive government since my teens, and I’m almost sixty now, so I’m not hopeful. Selfishness and cruelty seems to be a winning policy every time.

That really doesn’t fit with the polls, which show that the votes Likud is losing are not going to other right-wing parties. Plus the leaders of the two parties leading the center-left opposition to him both approve of a two-state solution. So it seems that it’s that classic situation of Bibi’s base, as it is, seeing him as not sufficiently dedicated to the cause and choosing to abandon him.

Article. V.

The Congress, whenever two thirds of both Houses shall deem it necessary, shall propose Amendments to this Constitution, or, on the Application of the Legislatures of two thirds of the several States, shall call a Convention for proposing Amendments, which, in either Case, shall be valid to all Intents and Purposes, as Part of this Constitution, when ratified by the Legislatures of three fourths of the several States, or by Conventions in three fourths thereof, as the one or the other Mode of Ratification may be proposed by the Congress; Provided that no Amendment which may be made prior to the Year One thousand eight hundred and eight shall in any Manner affect the first and fourth Clauses in the Ninth Section of the first Article; and that no State, without its Consent, shall be deprived of its equal Suffrage in the Senate.

So, all we need to do is get 50 state legislatures to agree to the proposal.

308 lawhawk  Mar 16, 2015 7:16:12am

re: #305 Timothy Watson

The counter argument to that craziness is found in the Federalist Papers (see 62 for example). The point of the Senate (the members of which were originally selected by state legislators, not directly elected) was to offset the more frequent elections and radicalization that can occur in the House. So, while each state would be demographically represented proportionally in the House, each state would have an equal number of Senators - a check and balance against the House and giving small states an equal say against larger states.

309 Targetpractice  Mar 16, 2015 7:16:43am

He met with the family of Michael Brown and it’s fine that he met with them but, Arthel, he did not meet with the family of Officer Darren Wilson or with his brother and sister officers to say, “I’m backing you up.”

I think that says more than the rest of the nonsense this nimrod spewed, the idea that an officer is supposed to expect unquestioning loyalty from those higher up the food chain, no matter what he is accused of. This is why Ferguson exploded like a powder keg last August.

Man, 20, accused of shooting officers at Ferguson protest

bigstory.ap.org

County police spokesman Brian Schellman said Monday that the officers are both white and St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar has identified Williams as black. But Schellman said it was not clear if race played a role in the shooting.

(snip)

“He was out there earlier that evening as part of the demonstration,” McCulloch said of Williams.

But several activists who’ve been involved in the protests since the Aug. 9 fatal shooting of 18-year-old Michael Brown by a Ferguson police officer told The Associated Press they were not familiar with Williams.

Williams used a handgun that matches the shell casings at the scene, McCulloch said. He also said tips from the public led to the arrest.

Williams is being held on $300,000 bond. He was appearing in county court in Clayton Monday morning. Schellman said he didn’t know whether Williams had an attorney or when he’d appear in court. A message left at the St. Louis County Justice Center was not immediately returned.” More

Really, McCulloch should resign. Also, it could be that William had no lawyer present during his questioning. Were his Miranda rights violated, too?

I also think the presidency has gotten too powerful, and I want it cut down a bit. I’m prepared to accept a nuclear Iran in order to do this.

This is your belief, which you’re entitled to, but the facts show a completely different picture.

The State Department’s ability to call out violations is restrained in part by Congressional funding (sequester). So if there are violations, someone has to investigate and go after the violators. If Congress cuts the funding, the State Department has fewer resources to devote to catching violators.

Now, you can further attempt to argue that the State Department and the Administration are willing to turn a blind eye to Iranian violations, but that would fly in the face that Obama has repeatedly called for nuclear nonproliferation and eliminating nuclear weapons as an end goal. He doesn’t want to see Iran go nuclear any more than the GOP does (though the GOP has politicized the entire process with its letter to the Iranian regime that was factually incorrect and irresponsible).

The Presidency is constrained by the same balance of power and separation of powers that it always has had. The President has used EOs far less than his contemporaries. He’s vetoed bills far fewer than his predecessors - and you’d have go to back decades to find someone who has used either method less. If anything, President Obama has continued moving the Office of the President back towards a pre-FDR model of what the Executive does.

Where the difference occurs is that the President has taken a stand against GOP obstructionism on the two major issues of the day - Obamacare and immigration. And on both, the GOP has no interest in compromise. It’s all or nothing, and in both policy matters, we’re talking about millions losing insurance, or forcing deportations for millions even though there’s no funding for that either. The GOP hasn’t put forth a credible alternative in either policy matter and the GOP can’t even agree what to do about immigration or Obamacare.

So, they’re left with bitching about the President’s actions, even though they’re completely within his powers under the Constitution. The GOP just can’t stand the fact that he’s using his power judiciously and in a limited manner.

If anything, there’s one area in which the President has restrained his use of Presidential power too much - and that’s the power of the pardon. He’s used that power far less than his contemporaries and that’s despite Ferguson and other recent events showing how law enforcement has failed minority communities by treating them as a revenue source instead of protecting them.

Even if we think someone is guilty, and even admits during questioning he committed some kind of crime, everyone deserves a defense, and that includes answering questions from the police.

The Texas Senate is currently attempting to restructure the state’s Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening program in a way that would prevent Planned Parenthood from participating. It represents lawmakers’ latest attempt to strip funding from the national women’s health organization, which has come under repeated attack from abortion opponents.

At a legislative meeting on Tuesday, State Rep. Sarah Davis (R) spoke out against that particular aspect of the Senate’s proposed budget, pointing out that excluding Planned Parenthood from the program will limit the number of health clinics where low-income women are able to receive cancer screenings.

“I don’t think it is appropriate to continue to fund the women’s health program so that we can make some type of a political statement as Republicans that we care about women, only to chip away at the safety net of the providers,” the GOP lawmaker said. “If we don’t have the provider network, women cannot be served. And they will die.”

Right. What I think ultimately he has though which will also help him is that he’s someone that both the nutter base and corporate donors will both love. The abundance of flavors alone. I hate the popcorn flavor though.

The popcorn is okay, IMO.

Those medium-colored green ones are horrible, though. My wife picked up a couple of small bags of Jelly Bellies, and when I tasted those green ones, I couldn’t even tell what they were supposed to taste like. The package said they were pear flavored, but they didn’t taste remotely like pears.

I picked them out of the bag and threw them away.

The GOP problem in a nutshell. Take the response to Ferguson and the DOJ report.

Leon Wolf writes a very even-handed post at RedState, wherein he indicates that even if you take the DOJ report at its most favorable to the FPD, you’re still left with a huge problem not only for the FPD, but all law enforcement nationally.

The FPD, by its own admission (and its own personnel reports, internal documents, etc.) operated as a revenue generator for Ferguson, never adequately trained or carried out oversight of police re: excessive force, etc.

The laundry list of problems is staggering, writes Wolf.

And of course, he’s targeted by right wingers at RedState for stating the astoundingly obvious.

This is the crux of the GOP problem. If you’re not nuts enough to reach the base, you’re ignored or treated as RINO. If you state the obvious, you’re treated as a pariah.

If you recite facts that are based on Ferguson’s own document’s you’re considered a Michael Brown supporter (even as the DOJ chose not to bring charges against Wilson because the law wouldn’t support it).

The GOP faces troubles that are far deeper and more ingrained than merely trying to win in 2016. They face a reality gap.

Major crisis averted at work today. I am breathing a sigh of relief.

So I’ve been working at a new gig and my job is to compile daily reports and social media stats across all channels of the campaign — YouTube, Google, Facebook, Twitter, etc. I have to put all the data — including total money spent — together into final reports that get sent out. I’ve busting my ass getting these monsters done every day, and last Friday it came to light that I’d gotten one of the client email addresses wrong. He’d never gotten any of the reports I’d been sending. The contact used [first initial last name]@[provider .com] for his email. I goofed and missed the first initial. I had accidentally been sending confidential info to the wrong address for three days. The ONLY reason I still have a job at all is because that incorrect address ended up being a throwaway that someone had, presumably for spam, and they hadn’t logged into it for at least a year.

Of course now I still have to compile all the data and prepare all the reports, but now I have to send them to the VP and he sends them on to the client. It’s annoying, but I’ll take it over unemployment. And now I have to work that much harder to turn this contract gig into a full-time one. Oh well. I always did like a challenge.

A while back one of the people in my department clicked on a “you got a raise” email — he also is not a stupid man, but he was expecting notification of a salary increase, and clicked on it without thinking. He was properly chagrined when I contacted him (an administrator was notified automatically whenever a direct deposit is changed). No harm done — at that time, he was actually being paid from an entirely different location, so I left it as it was and notified Central so they could check to see if anyone else had been scammed, and (I think) block that bank account systemwide.

482 CuriousLurker  Mar 16, 2015 9:10:33am

Interesting question:

Here in the United States, that raises an interesting question. In recent years, the Republican Party has elevated “support for Israel” to a level of passion and consensus usually reserved for things such as tax cuts and opposition to abortion rights. But that happened during a string of conservative Israeli governments. If Israel is led by a Labor Party prime minister and begins to change some of its policies, will Republicans decide that “support” is more complicated than they used to think?

It may be hard to remember now, but Israel became a Republican fetish object relatively recently. At times in the past, support for Israel was seen as a liberal cause, but as the Labor Party’s long dominance of the country’s politics faded and policy toward the Palestinians hardened, Republicans became more and more devoted to the country. […]

I wanted Castro to run for governor, and I suspect that was the plan for the Dems all along. They’d had him give the keynote at the 2012 DNC, he was increasing his social profile and his statewide presence, etc. Then Wendy Davis came along and suddenly Castro was being moved to a Cabinet spot.

I’ve been wondering about that myself CL. It’s something interesting to ponder since as the article gets at, the Republican Party hasn’t exactly been strongly supportive of Israel in the past when they were Labor led like they have been since 2001. I really do feel that their support for Israel has always been shallow at its core given that I feel that their support for Israel is rooted in Anti-Semitic beliefs as strange as that may sound.

It didn’t help that his go-to-guy for computer advice was just as clueless as he was/is about this stuff. His buddy got bit by it previously, and advised my father the only way to deal with it was to pay the fee.

Of course, 2 minutes of Googling ID’d the real problem and fixed it on the spot.

When I informed him that SpyAxe was probably some Russian hacker who now had complete access to his credit card, he shrugged and said it was just a cost of owning a computer. No worries about his credit because that happens to other people.

I switched him to a Mac to cut down on the viruses, but he’s still a target for e-mail phishing and the such. At this point, when it comes to IT support for family members, they get one chance to take my advice. If they ignore me, they own their fucking own after that.

Spring FINALLY arrived on the Gulf Coast last week and after a solid week of rain and mud, I got my planting done yesterday. I planted tomatoes (heirloom and roma), bell peppers, jalapeno peppers, green beans, cilantro, basil, dill, thyme, chives, parsley, peppermint, spearmint, and the garlic that spontaneously sprouted in my veggie basket. I cleaned the patio and furniture and set up the rest of my pet fencing around the patio so my boys don’t have to be tied up. Oh, and planted 3 beautiful hanging baskets.

Today my bones hurt to the point I’m ready to raid the Vicodan I have saved for emergencies. But all my growies look happy and perky. :)

re: #525 Nyet

He’s lying to someone. The question is who. Israelis, Palestinians, or US?

My bet? He’s lying to everyone. He has backchannel talks with the Palestinians just like prior administrations. He’d even consider a peace deal with the appropriate terms (and there was a deal supposedly floated involving 1967 lines that Netanyahu’s government vehemently denied).

At this point he’s saying whatever he thinks might get him reelected and garner enough support for the possible coalition partners. He’s got to hope that coalition party partners can outnumber what Zionist Union can put together, because Netanyahu’s Likud is behind Zionist Union.

So, these statements are designed to make people think twice about voting for Zionist Union/Hatnuah or Yesh Atid or Kadima, because they might form a coalition government with the Arab bloc, while Netanyahu would never go that route to form a government - instead working with the nationalist and far right parties to get to 60+.

It’s an admission that the election is out of Netanyahu’s hand and in the hands of the smaller parties that might be the difference in forming a coalition or not.

(Chicago) UPDATE: 5 killed, 24 wounded in weekend gun violence

(CHICAGO) Five people were killed and at least 24 other people-including a 12-year-old boy-were wounded in shootings across Chicago over St. Patrick’s Day weekend.

The most recent fatal shooting happened early Monday outside a Bucktown neighborhood nightclub on the North Side.

RWNJs love to cite stories like this to mock Chicago’s relatively strict gun ordinances. This completely ignores the completely different and much more permissive set of gun laws just the other side of the city limits, literally within walking distance of many neighborhoods.

More Israeli election fun

If reelected, Netanyahu vows wave of E. Jerusalem building

Speaking ahead of Tuesday’s general election on a whistlestop tour of Har Homa, a contentious settlement neighbourhood of annexed east Jerusalem, Netanyahu vowed he would never allow the Palestinians to establish a capital in the city’s eastern sector.

“I won’t let that happen. My friends and I in Likud will preserve the unity of Jerusalem,” he said of his ruling rightwing party, vowing to prevent any future division of the city by building thousands of new settler homes.

“We will continue to build in Jerusalem, we will add thousands of housing units, and in the face of all the (international) pressure, we will persist and continue to develop our eternal capital,” he added.

“We will preserve Jerusalem’s unity in all its parts. We will continue to build and fortify Jerusalem so that its division won’t be possible and it will stay united forever,” he said. “Likud’s victory is the only thing that can ensure the continuation of a national leadership and will prevent the establishment of a left-wing government.”

“If Tzipi and Bougie set up the next government, Hamastan 2 will be established on these hills here,” he said, pointing to the surrounding landscape.

Classy Likud. There’s Bibi’s “appreciation” for President Obama that he talked about in his pep rally to the GOP Congresmembers. Really, he deserves to lose because of this shit.

Well why did Obama invite Bibi to speak before congress if he wasn’t interfering in the election, huh?

Some discussion here:

“…According to my dad, who works in town planning, it’s only legal to fly the union flag as a patriotic gesture, anything else is counted as unlawful advertising. He tells me, although he too finds this silly, that the idea is that if you allow someone to fly one flag that isnt the union jack, then what’s to stop someone flying a flag saying ‘eat at joes’? ”

Yes, and the prices of solar panels have drastically decreased, battery/hybrid cars are becoming more practical, and water is becoming more important than oil. The Saud family knows very well that the only thing that keeps their heads from adorning pikes is oil money. They’ll do every thing they can to keep oil prices as high as possible for as long as possible.

631 jaunte  Mar 16, 2015 11:07:30am

Fresh madness:

Tom Cotton ‘Corruption Of Blood’ Bill Would Convict Family Members Of Iran Sanctions Violators

“…Cotton also seeks to punish any family member of those people, “to include a spouse and any relative to the third degree,” including, “parents, children, aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, grandparents, great grandparents, grandkids, great grandkids,” Cotton said.

“There would be no investigation,” Cotton said during Wednesday’s markup hearing before the House Foreign Affairs Committee. “If the prime malefactor of the family is identified as on the list for sanctions, then everyone within their family would automatically come within the sanctions regime as well. It’d be very hard to demonstrate and investigate to conclusive proof.”

I don’t believe the State Department or the administration can be trusted to call Iran out for violations. They’ve got too much invested in a deal to see it fall apart, and I believe forcing their hands on this will let Iran know we mean business.

I also think the presidency has gotten too powerful, and I want it cut down a bit. I’m prepared to accept a nuclear Iran in order to do this.

I thought the whole point of your argument supporting Cotton and the 46 Senators was not trusting the Obama administration to prevent Iran from getting nukes…because Iran having nukes would be terrible. But now you’re prepared to accept nukes if it means you can blame it on Obama. Talk about priorities out of whack.

You have no moral compass, and don’t seem to care about the lives of the millions of people who hang in the balance. I used to think you were just a typical partisan tool, of which there are millions on both sides. But you’ve exposed yourself here as a really sick and amoral person. Your ideas are dangerous, reckless, borderline sociopathic. I guess your extreme enthusiasm for weapons of all sorts really does mean what it suggests: you just love war, above all else. Fuck peace treaties, right? We’re America, let’s go to war. How sick, how depraved.
