American Family Association’s Bryan Fischer: Atoning for Abortion Will Mean “American Blood in the Streets”

Bad craziness
Wingnuts • Views: 28,472

Folks, we haven’t written about the American Family Association’s resident Old Testament loon Bryan Fischer recently, because he’s like a broken record repeating the same idiotic hate speech over and over.

But today he posted a video that breaks new ground for him. Because in response to a call from a guy named “Jerry,” Fischer went on a rant about abortion in which he called outright for 56 or 57 million Americans to die and blood to run in the streets — to “balance the scales of God’s justice.”

I can’t embed the video, but you can click through if you want to check my transcription. This is absolutely beyond the pale even for the insane Bryan Fischer; he’s openly inciting violence and murder in the name of God, on a massive scale.

Vimeo

Caller: Well, this nation has murdered, what 52 million unborn babies?

Fischer: Yeah, 56 or 57 now, actually.

Caller: OK well then, the scales of justice are at a tremendous imbalance against the entire nation.

Fischer: That is correct.

Caller: And for an unrepentant nation to level the scales, 56 or 57 million lives will have to be shed to level the scales.

Fischer: Well, you know it is interesting that you would say that, Jerry, because that is a Biblical concept. You know, you go back to the Old Testament books and God talks about the fact that the shedding of innocent blood defiles the land. And the only thing that can atone for the shedding of innocent blood is the shedding of blood, there’s no other way to cleanse the land of the pollution of the shedding of that innocent blood.

You know and Abraham Lincoln referred to that in his second inaugural address when he said, “You know in God’s justice it may be that every drop of blood that was drawn by the sword is to repay a drop of blood that was drawn by the lash, that is of the slaveholder.” And he said it may be that this war is going to last until the scales are balanced, until every drop of blood drawn by the lash is repaid by another drawn with the sword.

So I agree with you Jerry, and you know Thomas Jefferson said about God that I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just and his justice cannot sleep forever. And Jefferson was talking about slavery. He was talking about the shedding of innocent blood through human bondage, and that led to the Civil War. Thomas Jefferson could look down the corridor of history and say look, this is coming. It’s got to happen. God’s justice is not gonna overlook this forever.

And I agree with you Jerry, God’s justice cannot overlook the shedding of innocent blood through abortion forever. And what that’s gonna mean, ladies and gentlemen, it’s gonna mean exactly what Jerry’s talking about. It’s going to mean American blood in the streets. There is no other way that this thing can go. That’s what it’s gonna mean. American blood is going to have to be spilled on American soil to serve God’s justice for cleansing the land.

Wow.

Sandy Rios: ‘You Must Prepare For Martyrdom’ If Gay Marriage Becomes Legal

“There is persecution afoot,” she declared, citing various examples of Christian business owners who are supposedly being persecuted by laws banning discrimination in public services. Eventually, she warned that the push for marriage equality would gravely impact “your wives, your sisters, your children who now are going to be forced to go into public restrooms and share them with men dressed like women.”

“In Massachusetts, where homosexual marriage has been legal for ten years,” she said, “the stories would make the hair stand up on the back of your neck.”

Rios went on to state that if the Supreme Court rules in favor of gay marriage, it will force every Christian in American to make a choice and so they had better be prepared to take a stand.

“You must prepare for martyrdom,” she said. “I don’t know what it ‘s going to look like, but it’s coming”:

Dominionists believe that our law should reflect (their bigoted, narrow-minded, abolustist interpretation of) God’s Divine Law or we are calling on God to open up a Kingdom-sized can of Holy Smite upon us.

52 to 57 million people need to die for the 52 to 57 million abortions?

OMFG these people are batshit insane. And only a few heartbeats away from the presidency.

9 The Mother Of All Pies  Mar 19, 2015 3:02:53pm

He spends the first 7 minutes of the video rambling about Article V (which wingnuts want to rewrite the Constitution they supposedly reverence) and also term limits which Bryan think should be abolished so someone like Reagan could have continued to be POTUS well past the onset of dementia, which he was already experiencing during his second term.

The caller “Jerry” specifically mentioned “Levite enforcers” carrying out the 57 million executions, it’s not like he’s talking about a plague or divine slaying of the firstborn.

I am not going to call it a lynching until there’s more facts available, but I think the FBI should be involved from the start.

You really have to marvel at the uselessness of local law enforcement:

The hanging death of an African-American man who had been missing since early this month and was found Thursday by local authorities in Mississippi has drawn the scrutiny of the FBI and the Department of Justice Civil Rights Division.

The sheriff’s office in Claiborne County, Mississippi had organized a search for the man, who had been missing since March 2 and reported missing March 8. Authorities found the body hanging from a tree in the woods behind the residence where he had been living.

What is justice anyhow if you’re making a mockery of it by withholding evidence, putting an innocent man on death row, etc?

Don’t Be Evil:

Inside the U.S. Antitrust Probe of Google ★

Fascinating look from the WSJ at a 2012 FTC staff report that recommended filing an antitrust lawsuit against Google:

In discussing one of the issues the FTC staff wanted to sue over, the report said the company illegally took content from rival websites such as Yelp, TripAdvisor Inc. and Amazon to improve its own websites. It cited one instance when Google copied Amazon’s sales rankings to rank its own items. It also copied Amazon’s reviews and ratings, the report found. A TripAdvisor spokesman declined to comment.

When competitors asked Google to stop taking their content, Google threatened to remove them from its search engine.

“It is clear that Google’s threat was intended to produce, and did produce, the desired effect,” the report said, “which was to coerce Yelp and TripAdvisor into backing down.” The company also sent a message that it would “use its monopoly power over search to extract the fruits of its rivals’ innovations.”

The FTC revealed this report to the Journal by mistake:

The Wall Street Journal viewed portions of the document after the agency inadvertently disclosed it as part of a Freedom of Information Act request. The FTC declined to release the undisclosed pages and asked the Journal to return the document, which it declined to do.

“Unfortunately, an unredacted version of this material was inadvertently released in response to a FOIA request,” an FTC spokesman said in a statement to the Journal. “We are taking steps to ensure this does not happen again,” the statement said.

Trying to link the original article hits a WSJ paywall.

I think there are plenty of people who don’t feel they are on a “mission from God”, but do feel that one Party is more in line with their religion, and vote (and comment) accordingly. The Catholic Church is opposed to contraception unless it uses a calendar and has a high failure rate.

It would include comments about how it would alienate the Republican base for someone to take that position but they have compromised by not making abortion completely illegal, which is what the base wants, so clearly they aren’t guilty of the charge of a war on women. Just repeating the question, since I don’t think it’s out of bounds to ask why Republicans who are not on a “mission from God” can’t bring themselves to advocate for comprehensive sex education and low cost contraceptives in order to help lower the number of abortions that happen.

Because Republicans only allow sex outside of marriage if you don’t enjoy it.

re: #74 wrenchwench

I think there are plenty of people who don’t feel they are on a “mission from God”, but do feel that one Party is more in line with their religion, and vote (and comment) accordingly. The Catholic Church is opposed to contraception unless it uses a calendar and has a high failure rate.

Well, that does add an exciting element of randomness to the enterprise.

Sick news out of Colorado:

Police in the US state of Colorado say a woman stabbed a pregnant mother in the stomach and took her unborn child.

The victim, who was seven months pregnant, is likely to survive following surgery, but the baby died.

The pregnant woman was visiting the suspect’s home to buy baby clothes that had been advertised on the online marketplace Craigslist.

The suspect, Dynel Catrece Lane, lost a 19-month-old child over a decade ago when he drowned in a small fish pond.

The 26-year-old expectant mother was responding to an online advertisement for baby clothes when the attack occurred on Wednesday.

“When she got into the house, she was attacked, she was beaten, and her baby was removed or cut out of her,” Longmont Police Cdr Jeff Satur said.

I’ll freely admit there’s some frustration with the way DF rarely responds to questions that would require him to actually look at his position, instead preferring to ignore them. Or dropping one comment and then leaving for the night and never coming back to respond to criticism or comments from fellow Lizards.

That’s not the action of someone confident in his beliefs or willing to stand by what he says, and I have no respect for it.

The fact that Brian is essentially calling for a Crusade/Jihad cleansing our ranks of the impure and unworthy is obviously a step too far when it comes to exercising the right of free speech (and his exercising it after previously being censured by his own network) and the fact that we call him out on it here, to deride him, to mock him is well established. If DF doesn’t want to read our thoughts, he can simply go elsewhere.

In short… fuck him…and I have zero fucks to give regarding his ratings of my comments.

Good. That sort of provision, however, only triggers once someone has already become a threat and it still often will need people to report that someone is mentally ill. And that last may be effected by compulsory treatment, as it may cause people to decline to report for fear of being thought of as a ‘rat’.

I posted about this a thread or two ago

Turns out Sen. Sylvia Allen is a champion of unions. Who knew?

The “constitutional conservative” best known for her efforts to create state militias and close public meetings is hoping this year to boost protections in the future for detention officers who find themselves in hot water.

Like, say, her son-in-law.

Last year, then-Navajo County Supervisor Allen tried to interfere with an internal investigation into her son-in-law’s conduct with female inmates in the Navajo County jail.

This year, Allen has moved on to the state Senate where she sponsored a bill aimed at ensuring that others don’t have to endure what she sees as a witch hunt against her son-in-law.

“I just did not know what to do to help,” she recently told the Senate Public Safety, Military and Technology Committee, which approved a watered-down version of her bill after she read a letter from her daughter about the family’s ordeal. “There was no way to help. It was hard watching.”

Hard enough that I suppose Allen figured it was OK to use her position as an elected county official to intervene.

“She was interfering in the investigation,” Navajo County Sheriff K.C. Clark told me this week. “At one point, I had to go to the county attorney and say if she gets in my way, I’m going to book her for interfering in the criminal investigation.”

[…]

Well, there’s a deep split in most DA offices. About 1/2 really see themselves as zealous guardians of the public, and comport themselves with admirable ethics and restraint. They take the power that they are given, and use it to try to make the world a better place with the admittedly blunt tool of criminal law and prosecution.

The other 1/2 are careerists. They want gaudy stats because they want to move up the ladder and get a better parking spot at the country club, and maybe move over into some cushy political office in a coupla years. They could give a flying fuck about the innocence/guilt of the people they put in jail, as long as it makes them look good. If letting a guilty guy go improves their image, hooray! If persecuting a dirt-poor guy who just screwed up burnishes their stats, double hooray!

Apparently, the rest of the Western World is now finding out what history wonks have known for years.

Why was a 9th century Viking woman buried with a ring that says ‘for Allah’ on it?

For those interested

Aside from Viking raids in the Islamic Mediterranean, there were also sustained diplomatic relations between the Vikings (referred to as “Madjus” in Arabic sources[44]) and the Islamic world.[51] The Arab diplomat Al-Ghazal (“the gazelle”) was dispatched to the court of the Danish King Harek at Hleiðra in 844 (as recounted in Ibn-Dihya[52]) to make peace with the Danes followed their defeat at Sevilla.[52] He was reported back in Córdoba twenty months later.[53] Additionally, a century later the Arab merchant Abraham ben Jacob (also known as Al-Tartushi ) was reported to have travelled to the Viking trading town of Hedeby in Schleswig.

Meanwhile, in the Eastern Mediterranean the Norse (referred to as Rus’) were viewed more as “merchant-warriors” whose were primarily associated with trade and business.[54] In particular, Arab scholars such as Ibn-Fadlan recount Norse trade expeditions to Baghdad, a major center of the Islamic world.[54] Indeed, one of the only detailed accounts of a Viking burial come from Ibn-Fadlan’s account.

I don’t disagree with that actually but at the same time, that inevitably leads to friction between the DA’s office and the higher oversight authority whether that is the state’s attorney general’s office or U.S Department of justice. Frankly, I think we need to do away with the death penalty as a country. It’s outdated, it is not real justice, and I don’t like giving the state power to execute people.

that’s true, as evidenced by our legacy of trying to make it illegal to be anything other than being pigmentally challenged to be considered as a legal resident….. We keep trying though. It’s a battleground state to be sure and there are some efforts here to do a better job at registering hispanics and native americans to get them better represented and the voters in the state has passed an independent redistricting commission to draw up fair congressional districts, taking it out of the hands of our loony lege (who would have gerrymandered the living crap out of it).

Arizona is definitely a state to watch. The Dem candidate for Senate, a Hispanic and I believe Bush’s former Surgeon General had a good race there. I think Arizona could easily be a purple state or maybe even a blue one in the years to come but at the same time, gotta win those local races and ohpefully we will see the last of Sheriff Joe soon.

I apologize if I was painting all DAs as Group B), it’s just that too many of the ones that seem to prosecute capital murder trials fall in that line. Obviously prosecuting murderers is a thankless job but at the same time, if you’re going to prosecute someone to the full extent of the law, there needs to be maximum effort to ensure the right guy is convicted.

Yeah, I had a conversation years ago in a room fulla law enforcement officers. The subject of the death penalty came up, and I said that while I support it in theory, because 1) some criminals are just too heinous to live and 2) it gives DA’s a bargaining chip to get sickos to plead to LWOPP (Life WithOut Possibility of Parole)…

…but in practice, I think it should be suspended until we work out the kinks in the system? What kinks? I was asked. I gestured to a black U.S. Attorney. “Basically, that I would have to be a complete mass murdering sicko to get death, while he would get it just for killing a white woman.” He nodded in agreement. Although politically, this guy was seriously right-wing, he was also reality-based.

well Gov. Brewer tried to have them decalred illegal, after it’s creation was mandated by the voters because she felt that the districts crafted didn’t benefit the GOP enough. Yeah, that’s essentially why she felt that it was illegal, despite the mandate from the creation of the commission that it be impartial. She even tried to impeach the independent head of the commission.

Also agree that Carmona ran a good race and agree that we have to keep up the good work in getting Dems into state offices, but the state legislative districts are gerrymandered all to hell and it will take a better effort in reaching out to the currently unregistered folks and convince them that it is worth their time and effort.

re: #18 Kragar

If these assholes were serious about reducing the number of abortions, they would be demanding schools taught comprehensive sex ed and making sure women could get access to low cost or free contraception.

re: #22 Dark_Falcon

Fischer sees himself as being on a Mission From God and largely because of that he cannot be reasoned with.

re: #24 klys (maker of Silmarils)

Well that’s fine, but what about the rest of the Republicans who go along with it?

At which point you totally checked out of the conversation and ignored my question. Repeatedly. While clearly reading and responding to other things in the thread.

My question wasn’t about Bryan Fischer or what to do about him at all: I was asking about why other Republicans can’t be reasonable about common sense steps that would work to reduce abortions, which they claim to be against.

Just to clear up any misconceptions you may have had about my question. I would have been fine with you asking for clarification earlier, instead of ignoring it.

Lots of stuff coming out of the closet:

Huckabee downplays role with diabetes infomercial in Iowa

Mike Huckabee attempted to distance himself Wednesday from an online infomercial in which he acts as the face of an obscure diabetes treatment the American Diabetes Association cautions against.

Huckabee’s work as spokesman for the “Diabetes Solution Kit,” a program of dietary supplements involving cinnamon, was highlighted this week in a New York Times report suggesting the former Arkansas governor’s involvement might affect perceptions of how seriously he’s considering a presidential run ahead of 2016.

[…]

Put simply, Huckabee shills for a company looking for marks.

Huckabee denies any wrongdoing.

Huckabee’s marks don’t understand they are being worked.

Everyone’s happy at Pizza Ranch.

The visits at a glance

In Council Bluffs:

SETTING: A reserved room inside a Pizza Ranch restaurant

CROWD: About 30 people crowded tables in the room. Many wore stickers supporting the Fair Tax, a proposal to replace the federal income tax with a national sales tax.

REACTION: The crowd received Huckabee warmly, applauding loudly when he voiced support for the fair tax: “Sign me up!”

In Sioux City:

SETTING: Sioux City’s event also took place in the side room of a Pizza Ranch. “Back in 2008, we kind of invented the Pizza Ranch strategy,” Huckabee told reporters.

The answer to your question is that many socially conservative Americans see sex education and contraception as enabling radical changes that they do not want. In their minds things already work well enough and the changes that would be made are contrary to God’s will, so said change is to be opposed.

And that’s basically the ‘why’. As for what I feel about that issue, I try to avoid it since I do not understand it in many ways. And now I really do need to go to dinner. I’ve been at my parents house helping my dad with a project.

True. 24 hr rule, at least.

Authorities said the man’s body was found with a bed sheet tied around his neck and a skull cap on his head, hanging from a tree. The man’s hands were not tied up.

My understanding is that getting stung by one, say on the hand, is like pounding on your hand for 3 hours with a hammer. Can take several weeks to totally subside.

We “may” have been doing some spear-fishing for them at night. It would get interesting when you’ve got one the size of a dinner plate on your spear and it’s thrashing around. None of us ever got tagged, but you had to keep your sense of who’s around you.

I say “may” because technically in Curacao, if you’re not a resident, you can’t hunt.

But even though that guy is the leader of the Republican caucus and his statement was then voted on and adopted by the majority of the Republican party, so that it has now become the central part of the Republican party platform. And even though every Republican candidate running for office or currently holding office, as well as all right leaning television pundits, have also reiterated that thing the guy said, that I don’t agree with, I still don’t think that reflects the Republican party I’m a part of.

But today he posted a video that breaks new ground for him. Because in response to a call from a guy named “Jerry,” Fischer went on a rant about abortion in which he called outright for 56 or 57 million Americans to die and blood to run in the streets — to “balance the scales of God’s justice.”

Did Lincoln call outright for more and more bloodshed before the civil war was over? No. What he said was that, God being a just God, it could well be that we were fated to see that bloodshed.

The nonbeliever is naturally inclined to see in discussions of what God may do a dog-whistle call to human audiences to be the ones to actually do it. After all, in reality, to the nonbeliever, that is the only way it could happen.

I’m a nonbeliever. But I have some acquaintance with believers. They really are believers, and when they talk about fate and divine justice, they do not intend their listeners to take it as a call for them to take up arms and commit mass murder. They are saying that somehow or other, in ways mysterious to men and especially to unbelievers, the thing they are denouncing will somehow have dire consequences somewhere down the road. And “somehow” could include what the nonbeliever would call natural disasters or bad luck in war.

There is continual talk on this forum that if, say, income inequality does not simmer down, there will be revolution. Some have spoken of guillotines. This talk cannot fairly be characterized as “call outright” for such things. It is, instead, again a rumination that somehow or other, in ways mysterious to rich selfish capitalists, this income inequality will at some point have dire consequences involving large scale fatalities. And that that “somehow” could include what the rich capitalist would call natural disasters (rather than man-made climate change).

This is a more reasonable speculation, but in both cases, speculation about what kinds of consequences may flow from a state of affairs that the speaker sees as undesirable and fraught with hazard cannot accurately be equated to incitement to mass murder.

328 The Mother Of All Pies  Mar 20, 2015 10:24:54am

re: #327 lostlakehiker

I guess you did not listen to the actual show. Bryan was not saying that this mass murder would be accomplished through divine plague or some supernatural Horsemen of the Apocalypse event, he was responding directly to a caller who was asking if it was OK for him to be a “Levite enforcer” or self-appointed executioner.

Instead of Bryan saying, like a normal and rational person NO YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT FUCKING GENOCIDE, YOU’RE A NAZI” he went along with it.

This is a more reasonable speculation, but in both cases, speculation about what kinds of consequences may flow from a state of affairs that the speaker sees as undesirable and fraught with hazard cannot accurately be equated to incitement to mass murder. re: #328 The Mother Of All Pies

You’re right I didn’t listen to the show. I went by the quotes. And by what I know of how the believers I know think. This guy isn’t like them, not any little bit. My bad.

Bryan Fischer is just giving us his version of what all right wingers feed their audience: drama and apocalyptic, extreme visions. After all, if they tried to use facts and logic, no Republicans would ever win an election again.
