Ted Cruz Will Announce Presidential Candidacy at Jerry Falwell’s Liberty University

Theocracy
Politics • Views: 30,959

One of the most dishonest, creepy, and fanatical Republicans in Washington, Ted Cruz, is going to be the first presidential candidate for the wacko wing of the GOP (which is pretty much the entire GOP now), and of course, he’s going to announce it in a speech at Jerry Falwell’s religious right diploma mill, Liberty University — where young Earth creationism is taught in biology class.

Cruz will launch a presidential bid outright rather than form an exploratory committee, said senior advisers with direct knowledge of his plans, who spoke on condition of anonymity because an official announcement had not been made yet. They say he is done exploring and is now ready to become the first Republican presidential candidate.

The senator is scheduled to speak Monday at a convocation ceremony at Liberty University in Virginia, where he is expected to declare his campaign for the presidency.

If he gets the nod, so-called moderate republicans will hold their nose and vote for him because reasons.

As Josh Marshall already noted, Ted has decided to skip the whole concept of an exploratory committee and just announce his candidacy. The whole point of such a committee is to take a moment, dip a toe in the water, and question if one should run. Ted’s decided that yes, he should run, why wouldn’t he?

I definitely do not have nearly enough popcorn.

Ted Cruz ‘16:

Because America is the God-ordained free-est and greatest country in the world that’s in decline and constantly in peril of being of being destroyed by God because people have too much of the wrong kind of freedom.

Also, he promises that this won’t all turn out to be some kind of giant cash-grabby horseshit like all the other stuff he does, because you have to understand that it’s not really a scam if you really believe God told you it isn’t a scam, because cynicism and idealism have an intersection point at “too vain to use external references to structure one’s worldview.”

Also, SEND CASH.

Regional and also ideological lines. It was liberal Republicans and Democrats who pushed civil rights. I’d like to ask conservatives and Republicans that if Civil Rights was such an issue that they valued so much, why did they nominate an opponent of hte CRA-1964 for president that year and furthermore why did William F. Buckley push the insidious lie that Civil Rights was a communist plot. Or the real dagger which is why did Civil Rights opponents use the same crap excuses the opponents of LGBT equality use today i.e. morality and states rights.

or Reagan and the “young bucks” and opening his campaign talking about states rights where three civil rights workers were murdered. Or H.W Bush and Willie Horton. The Republican Party gave up any credibility on the civil rights issues when they decided that they wanted the votes of Southerners angry at the national Democratic party becoming vocally for Civil Rights.

*Officially, one would always hide behind the “My vote is my own” defense, implying some kind of mavericky independence which confounds the pundits. Which is their right.

However, most of the people I know who are in the “Trayvon Martin may have been a thug” camp tend to like elephants in their party’s logo.

**If they dropped off for serious real world concerns, I do hope they’re okay.

I hear you. I’m less than thrilled with the idea of another Bush/Clinton slugfest.

OTOH, the economy under Democrat Bill Clinton kicked serious ass. The economy is recovering under Democrat Barak Obama, and might have done better if the GOP had decided to work with him, rather than destroy the US economy because they wouldn’t work with one of those people.

If Hillary runs and wins, and then the economy improves even more? I would hope it would have the effect of convincing people that since 1980, we proposer more when a Democrat is running the White House.

She has always been motivated by her own desires. She is driven. Maybe more than Bill.

If anything, they can be considered a political couple but not a Dynasty.

Also, dynasties are over generations. Bush. Yes. Clinton. No (Not yet).

By the way. I’ve noticed you are working real hard to equalize both parties. Am I wrong for having a sense that is your own deep frustration for the GOP showing? And it seems like you are blaming Democrats for the GOP being out of control.

Are you really saying if the Democrats were stronger the GOP would need to up its game?

Bill Clinton did not build the dot com boom. He managed to stay of it’s way. Signed the bill that penalized corporations for high CEO salaries triggering the stock option dodge that has done a lot, a shit ton of damage to our economy since. Or do we recall the accounting scandals that were a clear salient warning about Wall Street before the bubble pop. Should have given us the tools to prevent it right then, but did not.

Being a fan of that economy does not readily translate into being a fan of that administration, any more than Reagans recovery should make Reagan fans of us.

For an improved economy we need a similar breakthrough or trend to the dot com boom. Fortunately we have people like Musk to make that happen. Economic booms don’t come from presidents. I thought we all agreed on that past Reagan’s days. Since it was decided he had little or nothing to do with that turnaround right?

The economy is easily obstructed in DC. Not easily improved unless you count merely halting the interference as helping.

It’s honest outrage from a guy that became an anti partisan from watching party first policies (from individuals all up through the the political operators ) pretty well screw the whole two party system.

Show me someone with what we need. Reduced corporate influence. A decade or more of executive experience running a government. Or a major legislative record. Or maybe a really solid career at a respected and innovative corporation more like Tesla and nothing like Wal Mart. Maybe a candidate that is less burdened by past WH scandals both real and imagined. Maybe another young-ish but really well educated person. Nobodies brain is as sharp in their ‘70’s as the forties or fifties.

Some have said they would never ever vote for a republican. No matter what. That works well this time around. But it also assumes two things. One-that the GOP could never ever reform and become vote worthy. Two-Not even one superior candidate anywhere ever? Seems doubtful over time.

I feel that’s just deeply wrong. I would never forswear the ability to vote the best candidate as I see it. I have plenty of criticisms of Dem policies over thirty years. Over the past 30 years the GOP has grown increasingly and more deeply insane, credited in large part to the theocrats and racists the party catered to and since have entirely succumbed to. During that time, anyone trying to stand up to these lunatics has been crushed.

In my observations, third parties seem to be focused way too much on running candidates for higher offices and not enough on the smaller level which is where they could build up credibility to be able to run candidates for higher offices. This is coming someone who has voted third party for high office before too but when I did, I was deeply bothered by the fact that they had no one running for lt governor or attorney general.

Then I don’t know what to tell you, there are no perfect candidates. Just for example, you want a young candidate, but you also want them to have a decade or more of “executive experience” or a major legislative record. And atop that, you want them to have few or no scandals in their past. No such beast exists in either party. You either get a young up-and-comer whose appeal is he’s got no major faults but he’s also got no record to run on, or you get an old warhorse who’s got decades of experience but also an army of skeletons in his closet.

Instead of faulting the parties for not meeting your standards, maybe you should stop and consider that your standards aren’t realistic.

SUSPECT DEAD, OFFICER WOUNDED IN ARIZONA WAL-MART BRAWL

An overnight family brawl in a Wal-Mart parking lot has left one person dead and two others wounded, including a police officer who was shot in the leg.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety says a Cottonwood police officer was shot in the leg just before midnight Sunday trying to break up the melee in the store parking lot.

Authorities say the incident began when police responded to reports that a female Wal-Mart employee was allegedly assaulted by multiple suspects.

According to DPS, the suspects were part of the same family of eight and immediately attacked responding officers outside. Seven officers suffered minor injuries including lacerations and bruising.

No denial of my statements about the inherent assumptions I see. Given those assumptions I don’t disagree. I imply think those to be uncertain assumptions.

Assumptions? LOL I’m just assuming that the GOP is now a party of theocrats and racists? I’m assuming that the party has been trying to burn the country to the ground to spite Obama and liberals? I’m assuming that the party is doing its damnedest nationally and in every state to eliminate health care, food stamps, and women’s right to choose?

This list of “assumptions” could get a lot longer.

Tickets like Cruz/Palin are fun and games and “an easy ticket to beat”, but it also means one major HRC scandal away from utter crazies running the most powerful state on Earth.

IMHO It would take a HUGE honest-to-the-almighty-universe genuine scandal to cause that scenario; That stated, it’s a possibility that does leave me hoping that more prominent Dems will also run in the primaries (personally I wish Warren were running)..

Eyeing White House, is Martin O’Malley all in for Iowa?

If he’s really serious about the White House, where has Democrat Martin O’Malley been? And is he really going to go for it now in Iowa?

No Democratic presidential hopefuls put a toe Iowa in November, December, January, February or most of March, adding to the conventional wisdom that Hillary Clinton will win the nomination in a landslide. Speaking of AGW, Realclimate has a new post up about an upcoming conference on climate sensitivity, and in their post they use this graph:

Image: climatesensitivity.001.jpg

Looking at the axis label at the top of that picture shows why AGW is not much of a political factor. Physics works on timescales quite different than that of politics.

Which is why the Colorado Springs news outlet runs a headline like this:

EDITORIAL: Fix potholes, not global warming

Now that editorial is mostly pretense, a way for the editors to attack the science of AGW without writing a headline as such, but the point is that more people care about potholes than AGW.
