Episode 2- Sushi for Pregnant Women

Here’s how ya do it:

Ingredients:
Personal watermelon, or about 1/4 of a big boy.
2 tablespoons oil
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 cup cooked sushi rice
Green onions, chopped (for garnish)
Teriyaki sauce or jizz

Directions:
Preheat the oven to Broil.
Cut up watermelon pieces to the size of little dominos and put them on a tin foiled sheet and drizzle with the olive oil and soy sauce.
Bake for about 90 minutes, turning every so often to not burn.
Remove the watermelon from the oven, and let it cool. It looks like fish!
Form the cooked rice into the shape of sashimi.
Top each rice roll with a piece of the watermelon.
Garnish with chopped green onions, and optional teriyaki jizz.

Enjoy the sushi your little parasite has heretofore robbed you the pleasure of enjoying.

Man that’s incredible. I think SCOTUS will pretty much have its hand forced. I wouldn’t be shocked if it’s a 6-3 decision that rules all these SSM bans unconstitutional. I’d love for it to be unanimous i.e. Brown and Loving but Alito, Scalia, and Thomas don’t have the basic sense of justice that the 9 judges on those two cases did.

OT, but I was watching Crosby, Stills, and Nash on public television. Good show and all, but if I understand right they were one of the first acts to book stadiums for their concerts? I remember a lot of their music and I was about 6 to 8 years old at that time span, but I just can’t believe they were insanely popular. I never seem to have computer hardware good luck. I had hoped it was just a power supply but after a new case and power, the board is dead. So considering I have case, 750 watt power, and 3 functioning drives I gotta take a look at board, cpu and RAM. Given a budget of about $1000 thinking probably 6 core intel, new board and not yet sure about the ram. Suggestions?

I’ve had good results with GSkill RAM. I’m running 16GB of it on an ASUS Sabertooth 990FX MB with an AMD Vishera FX-8350 CPU and two overclocked 1GB NVIDIA GTX 550ti’s for 3D modeling and rendering as well as PS for textures and compositing. Never had a problem. I did, however, shovel all of those goodies into a full tower case with seven fans just to keep things as cool as possible.

Many Adobe programs are SMP (Symmetric Multi Processor) enabled which in turn means the more cores, the better. I believe that Intel uses some engineering that enables each CPU core to run two threads so that a four core CPU functions pretty much like one with eight dedicated cores. It’s just that my unlocked Vishera is selling for well under two hundred bucks right now and I’m cheap. Best way to add speed in something that’s read/write intensive is to go to a solid state drive. I did and the performance increase was amazing.

I tend to get very nervous when elections are approaching, because—without going into detail about our situation—GOP control of congress and the WH would mean absolute ruin for my girlfriend and me.

Here’s what I console myself with: They have really won—numerically—only one out of the last six elections, and that one was pretty narrow. That one victory was an incumbent, wartime president, against an opponent most people affected to find unexciting. And this 1 in 6 record is choosing the least frightening candidates they could come up with. This time will either be more of the same, or a real nutbar.

I just don’t think they can find a candidate any more who can win in an honest election. They can gerrymander the hell out of state houses and congress, but to win the White House is going to take voter suppression on a massive scale—which of course they’re doing. Will it be enough? Maybe. That’s why I get nervous.

Yes, a GOP win would mean ruin for many, many of us.

Our household income teeters on the brink of poverty and w/o my SS check remaining untouched even at its present level, inflation could be disastrous, esp if my grandson and g-g-son are left without my input. He simply couldn’t cope w/o another income and they would be sunk into deep poverty in his present job. We’ve managed to survive on my SS for 6 mos a few years ago, but only because I know how to manage on very little and where to get help; still my g-son is at an age today where unemployment means much more as he matures and pursues a suitable mate.

Doesn’t appear that fans of fringe candidate Blowhard Cruz are all that enthusiastic. Or probably they don’t use Twitter and are just getting up, but with only about 3% supporting him in recent polls, it’s unlikely he’s going anywhere soon.

He’ll probably collect a few bucks to run an ill-fated, short campaign from those least able to afford it. At least it’ll keep him partially out of the Senate as he makes personal appearances. I can’t really see established funders offering him any more than a few bones, pocket change, really.

Good morning Lizards. 28F and some light clouds here in Philadelphia as the sun shines upon the wreckage of brackets.

Photos from trip to Florida and Alabama edited, so now I can toss some up now and then. Plenty of warbird photos as well since I visited two museums that had planes. Plus the usual wildlife and macro shots.

I might also try to write up some text for a few locations and make a page or two as time permits.

How are things with the Lizard Folk this morning?

Now that you’re gone, things are returning to normal in Alabama. The county seat had competing demonstrations on same-sex marriage, and plans for the gumbo fest continue. One of these will be well attended.

A realistic picture would have the rope ladder on the left side, with rungs labeled things like “Public education,” “business loans,” and “tax rebates,” while the right picture would be garbage dumped into the hole while the “free marketers” sneer about “trickle down.”

Anyone who believes the free market is designed to help people out of the pit is naive in the extreme. If they don’t believe me, look at the Gilded Age and tell me how an unregulated market helped the poor out of the pit.

And Steven Stills has got to be THE most underrated guitarist ever.

They were one of the first “supergroups”, Still & Young coming from The Buffalo Springfield, Nash from the Hollies and Crosby from the Byrds.

And their first public performance was a Woodstock.

Great article I just read about how the press should treat climate denying candidates:

Q. Is the equivalency issue dead? To what extent should we feel obligated to include the views of climate change skeptics?

A. Claims that the entire field of climate science is some kind of giant hoax do not hold water, and we have made a conscious decision that we are not going to take that point of view seriously.

There’s some good news.

In Clinton Emails on Benghazi, a Rare Glimpse at Her Concerns

nytimes.com

“The roughly 300 emails from Mrs. Clinton’s private account that were turned over last month to a House committee investigating the attack showed the secretary and her aides closely monitoring the fallout from the tragedy, which threatened to damage her image and reflect poorly on the State Department.

“They provided no evidence that Mrs. Clinton, as the most incendiary Republican attacks have suggested, issued a “stand down” order to halt American forces responding to the violence in Benghazi, or took part in a broad cover-up of the administration’s response, according to senior American officials.”

Then, the Times does this:

“But they did show that Mrs. Clinton’s top aides at times corresponded with her about State Department matters from their personal email accounts, raising questions about her recent assertions that she made it her practice to email aides at their government addresses so the messages would be preserved, in compliance with federal record-keeping regulations.”

So what? It was her “top aides” who emailed her; not the reverse, unless you want to count her replies, which more than likely are on the record.

We shall see that this is nothing but a tempest in a teapot.

This seems to be a common theme. Get rid of income and corporate taxes and institute a huge sales tax. That’s terrible economics. You want a lower sales tax you’ll encourage people to spend since this is you know a consumer economy.

I shake my head when I realize the number of people who by into the idiocy of forcing the US to fundy xtian is as some Arab Countries are fundy muslim.

Let’s be just like them!!!

I think some of them have admitted to having a bit of envy for ISIL since they have more people in their region who want church and state to be fused together. Their problem with groups like ISIL is only with their religion. In fact, I’d bet good money if ISIL were a Christian group, they’d be wanting Congress to give them aid and support.

A Jug of Wine, a Loaf of Bread—and Thou

Precisely. It’s designed to hit the poor and punish the poor. All the taxes the right wants to decrease or get rid of are ones on people who don’t need the tax breaks. They’re not anti-tax at all, they’re anti-taxes on the very wealthy.

Adding a 20% (To start with) Federal sales tax onto existing state and county sales taxes here in California would mean a 30% tax on purchases. Not only would that create a robust underground economy it would apply the coup de grâce to our national economy, two-thirds of which is based on consumer spending. re: #367 HappyWarrior

Feature, not a bug.

And in any event, you’d need at least 30% sales tax to get anywhere near to what the current income tax generates as revenue.

Of course, it also means those least able to pay for the taxes will see the burdens shifted to them, while the rich get to hold on to even more wealth.

Don’t get me started on the tax basis from which the rate gets calculated. What items are taxable, what is excluded (exempt). In order to get anywhere near the 30% rate, you’d have to include all manner of services that are currently exempt, and also tax stuff like church services and all other items that we currently provide tax exempt status too.

Once you start factoring in the exemptions (to say nothing of the states that don’t impose a sales tax at all, and therefore don’t have a collection system in place for those taxes), you’d have a fine mess.

Oh, and all the states that piggyback on the federal income tax for their tax treatment? They’d have to all amend their tax codes to either create their own tax code, or rely on the tax code as in effect on a given year to keep their tax systems intact.

It’s a clusterfuck, which is precisely the point. These folks want to blow up the income tax, and their alternative is no such thing at all.

There’s no way you’d have a 20% federal sales tax covering all the revenue brought in under the federal income tax. The rate is far close to 40% for a breakeven than 20%. Tack on the state sales tax, and you’re looking at close to 50% in some jurisdictions - and car rental taxes would be even higher than that.

Yep. You read my page from last month. The whole reason there are these “Christian” universities is to maintain the echo chamber through their most formative years. I was lucky to find a place that wasn’t a complete echo chamber.

Is that a teleprompter I see before me? Reagan both oversaw one of the more substantial tax hikes while in office, all while also engaging the biggest overhaul of the tax code since 1954. The Code needs revision, but the GOP still seeks to shift the tax burden to those least able to afford it.

424 The Mother Of All Pies  Mar 23, 2015 10:36:59am

re: #415 lawhawk

You can go to the fairtax.org site to see the huge pile of horrific Derp that their fucked-up ideas have in store for this country.

Yeah you were very fortunate and it seems to me (outsider’s perspective) that the sole purpose of these universities is to be an echo chamber. And I really think that does the kids a disservice since once they leave school, they’re going to be in a world that isn’t all Evangelical Christian and conservative.

That’s why I wrote “to start with,” in quoting their 20% sales tax figure. I’d guess that they know 20% will not be sufficient and they also know that quoting anything closer to reality would drive a stake through the heart of their master plan. For some reason, this scheme reminds me of the old “We’ll make it up in volume” joke.

The Fair Tax idiots start with a 23% rate, using a methodology that is simply not used in determining the tax. They achieve this chicanery by saying that on a total purchase w/tax of $100, $23 is tax. In other words, the tax revenue generated ($23) is on a purchase $77. Last time I checked, the tax rate for $77 to achieve $23 in revenue is not 23% but 29.87%.

Reminds me of Penn, of Penn & Teller. He often describes their political view as anarcho-capitalism, rather than libertarianism. My interpretation is that it’s a variation of the Golden Rule: he who has the gold, makes the rules; topped with the religious belief that the Invisible Hand will fix the inevitable inequality that springs up.

One of the many reasons I stopped listening to Penn a long time ago. Another brilliant bon mot is that when he calls a woman a c-CLANG!, he’s doing it to defend his own daughter’s freedom of speech.

If anything, libertarianism is great for entrainment at the adherent’s expense.

Questions for Ted Cruz:

1) Why were you unable to set up a proper website for your campaign launch?

Followup questions:
1a) When will you have a working site?
1b) Is your campaign sunk before it starts because you can’t even defend your own name; how can you defend the nation if you can’t think ahead and buy your domain name?
1c) Are you going to WIPO or ICANN to try and get those governmental groups to give you access to the tedcruz dot com domain?
1d) How can you go to those groups, when they are quasi governmental bodies responsible for keeping the Internet flowing, and you and your followers don’t want the government involved in the Internet (IOW - reconcile your position with your net neutrality baffling BS).

Next Question:
2) Is Ben Carson feeding you quips to include at Liberty U?
3) Is this just an elaborate April Fools hoax, and that you are merely lining up for the big grift payoff once you realize you wont poll better than 6%. Heck, you might not even get a bounce sufficient to top Chris Christie.

I think like Bobby Jindal, he’s someone who is probably intellectually capable but someone who sees the path to career advancement by playing the know-nothing dummy. Betcha you won’t hear him talk about his Harvard education at all on the campaign trail since attending Harvard to GOP voters is almost as bad as attending a madressa.

Cruz’s undergrad and law school classmates remember him as a very smart asshole, who was disliked except by a small coterie of followers.

They’re all OUTRAGED because “Libtards” are being RACIST!!!!! by not mentioning Ted’s pasty white race.

Too funny! So Cruz is going to succeed by being every Hispanic’s Hispanic and every white bigot’s white man. That should work well. Moreover, Republicans make their usual mistake of assuming that not-white people are monolithic groups. Here in SoCal the word “cubano” is a pejorative among many Hispanics.
In the end, these things are meaningless. Cruz is simply out for the grift and when he inevitably drops out he’ll say that his real mission was to move the dialog.

Ah gotcha. I guess my point is I don’t see him as smart. I think Cruz and also Bobby Jindal are both smart enough guys who pander to the dummies because they know it’s more easier for their political careers than actually showing intelligence. You won’t see Cruz talking about time at Harvard in this campaign that’s for sure nor will Bobby talk much about his time as a Rhodes Scholar. Sanotrum had it right. Deep down, I think that both them are about as religious as Elmer Gantry and for the same reasons.

While I understand you thinking that, with Walker it’s worse. He is a True Believer in his viciously Anti-Christian Christianity. He’s the kind who would argue that it’s better for someone to starve to death than get government help if his church couldn’t help.

He is a classic case of the utter banality of evil and to top it off he’s dumb enough to make Tommy Thompson look like an Einstein. Quite possibly he’s the sleaziest person I’ve ever had the misfortune of meeting.

It’s an excellent school, whose reputation has been sullied by CCJ’s association therewith.

The Claremonts are modeled on the Oxbridge system — there’s 5 undergrads, a grad school and a school of theology… but students from any of them can take classes at any of them, your meal card is good at all the dining halls, most of the social events are 5-college.

Pomona College — the oldest. best. first. Sort of like Harvard, but with no snow. All their pre-meds get into med school. All of them. Their foreign language and IR programs make them a prime spot for CIA and State Dept recruiting.

CMC — mostly econ and poli-sci majors. Pre-law, pre-MBA kind of people. Right wing. Included with your tuition is a daily subscription to the WSJ. You’re expected to have read it cover to cover by the time you go to your first class — any article or editorial could come up in the lecture, and your prof will be displeased if you weren’t ready to discuss it.

Harvey Mudd — Their only majors in my day were math, physics, chemistry and engineering. They’ve since added an IT program. The breadth-of-study requirements (history, lit, etc) are met by cross-registering classes at the other CC’s. MIT with no snow.

Scripps — the women’s college. Meant to be a companion to CMC when it was all men, but Scripps has remained a women’s college even when CMC went co-ed in the 70’s. Lots of art history majors looking for their MRS degree, but they also have smart, ambitious women.

Pitzer — the hippie school.

Met George Wallace when I was a teenager. It was in interesting experience because while I absolutely detested the man (and still do), I was surprised at his charisma in person. When he entered the room all attention centered on him. Helped me to understand how some scum buckets can get into and hold office.

Had a friend who lived next door to the governor’s mansion. He took me upstairs and showed me the back yard of the mansion. They had setup a large tent and there was a lot of booze stacked in cases. Guess George had made a promise that as governor he wouldn’t have liquor in the governor’s mansion. Kept that promise by putting it outside. Helped me to become even more cynical about politicians and some of the idiots that vote.

They continue to insist they’re not bigots and we’re the real meanies for calling them such but they continue to prove us right by having beliefs about gays that are straight out of Nazi Germany.

I’ll take the understanding of Ezekiel 16:49 about Sodom over them anyway.

Wow, imagine having to map that trucks route out to get to its destination with that thing.
