Temp has dropped to 88F here. So very dry the ground happens to be, compared to what is “normal” when March ought to be lush and green… sad sad year for loquats.

Olive Hill veteran charged with fraud

HUNTINGTON𠂊n Olive Hill army veteran has been charged with cheating the U.S. Department of Veterans’ Affairs out of about $800,000 in compensation and benefits since 1995.

A federal grand jury indicted Phillip M. Henderson on nine counts of wire fraud, according to the office of the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of West Virginia.

Henderson, 50, is accused of faking vision problems to be eligible for disability benefits, according to the indictment.

To be honest, I was entirely sure what to make of it. I can certainly see how his past experiences might be driving his present behavior, but yeah—seems to me he must’ve felt quite conflicted on various levels. Maybe he still does, who knows? He’s not exactly an easy guy to read, despite GWB claiming he was able to look him in the eye and “get a sense of his soul”. *eyeroll*

Something is not quite right with this picture.

It ricocheted off of something, either internally or externally. If he fired down into his leg, it may have taken an odd bounce off the floor and/or some walls and wound up in his back.

49 goddamnedfrank  Mar 27, 2015 4:51:53pm

In the past I’ve kept guns in conditions that I now consider to be really stupid, but I’ve never, ever, stored them with a round in the goddamned chamber. That’s just begging for regret.

If that extra second it takes you to chamber a round is the difference between you living and dying then you’re fucked anyway. There is no plausibly realistic scenario faced by any civilian anywhere that justifies that shit.

I have a suspicion that there is a whole lot of the story missing. I have never seen a 2 year old with hands big enough to hold the grip safety and pull the trigger on a 1911. Combine that with the other descriptions you point out? Let’s just say this story stinks more than week old fish.

The technical issues with the ability of a 2-year-old to actually fire the gun I will leave to those with personal experience of the weapon, but vague media descriptions of the wound are no reason to doubt the story on its face.

After high 70s earlier this week, we have a hard freeze warning for tonight. I figured it was a good night for some Chili, and I made a small mistake. I was whipping up a batch of my chili seasoning, and was making a double batch. Without thinking, I used all of it with a single batch pot. Lets just say that it’s going to keep me warm inside.

I did try something new, I tossed a little under a TBS of dutch cocoa into the mix. That and the smoked paprika is making for a nice rich taste.

From Clemens Heni’s article:

A leading voice for the Right was the website Politically Incorrect or PI. That website is the leading voice for Dutch politician Geert Wilders, too. They promote his events, and publish articles in favor of him, for example.

[…]

German Islamic Studies scholar Rainer Glagow (1941-2010) was both a “critic of Islam” as well as a German nationalist. He signed a petition about the unconditional surrender of Nazi Germany on May 8, 1945, saying that that day was not a day of liberation, rather of German defeat. People like Glagow were not happy that Nazi Germany was defeated and the Holocaust stopped. They frame May 8, 1945, as the “defeat of the German Wehrmacht.”

[…]

Politically Incorrect’s take on the end of the Second World War and Glagow is typical. May 8, 1945, was a day of liberation for Europe, but not for the Nazis and the German population. Politically Incorrect (PI) honored Glagow as a “fighter against Islamization,” including an article by representative of the “peoples movement Pax Europe” or “Bürgerbewegung Pax Europa (BPE),” Conny Axel Meier. Meier was another speaker, alongside with Sabaditsch-Wolff and Strüning, at the Brussels event in July 2012.

So file this under shocking maybe mildly surprising if true: “Award-Winning Journalist” Chuck C. Johnson, the newly crowned Stupidest Man on the Internet, accuses conservative icon and disgraced former Army Colonel and one-term-only congressman Allen West of having done something awful:

gotnews.com can independently confirm that conservative icon Allen West sexually harassed two different women at Pajamas Media using more than a dozen sources.

We honestly don’t want to know the sordid details of how West allegedly harassed two women with a dangling participle like that, but we will continue for the sake of You, the Discerning Reader.

Normally Chuck would be tweeting at least a dozen links to his article. It’s obvious he doesn’t have much confidence in this one, because he’s tweeted exactly one link to it, and then went off on a bunch of unrelated tangents.

He knows he screwed up. And after hyping it as the most important thing he ever wrote.

I was going to write something about it, but now I’m leaning away from it. I’m thinking just let it die.

those of us who lived a long time in the last century remember the inescapable songs of the 60s like this, and strangers in the night, and sam and janet evening, & etc which would track you down no matter how hard you tried to evade them and which no amount of therapy can erase

With me none of those were really from my generation (I’m a ’70s child), but my dad was almost 20 years older than my mom, so he was closer to being from my grandparent’s generation (as was the music he liked). Add to that a bunch of (much older) half-siblings, and all that old stuff is very familiar to me.

BTW Heni remains an ass, but I’m reading his article against PEGIDA now, and he is open to critique of internal Israeli problems, like racism, Bibi or the extreme right (which he juxtaposes with the Zionists like Livni and Herzog). Maybe in a few years he will abandon his more extreme positions and become a reasonable person.

You know an actor’s doing a great job if he gets that kind of reaction. I really enjoyed the film. Still amused by NRO’s resident British former illegal alien white supremacist Derbyshire crying that the film wasn’t like Gone With the Wind because you know the archetypal Lost Cause novel adaption is more accurate than a film based off an actual slave’s memoir.
