Followup: Glenn Beck and Glenn Greenwald Agree on Pretty Much Everything

A mutual admiration society

YouTube

Following up on yesterday’s article on Glenn Greenwald’s appearance on the Glenn Beck show, The Blaze (Beck’s vanity media organization) has posted several video clips at YouTube.

As we noted yesterday, Greenwald attacked people who criticized him for doing this interview, saying he “disagrees” with Beck and comparing himself to President Obama being interviewed by Bill O’Reilly. But if you watch any of the clips posted by The Blaze, you won’t see any disagreement between them — none at all. In fact, this interview was like a meeting of a mutual admiration society, with Greenwald and Beck laughing and smiling together throughout.

In the clip I posted above, get a load of this exchange in which Greenwald agrees with Beck that Jeb Bush and Hillary Clinton are “interchangeable.”

Beck: Hillary Clinton and Jeb Bush are interchangeable.

Greenwald: They have the same funders, the same backers [Beck laughs], I mean Wall Street is just praying for a Jeb Bush/Hillary Clinton… you know it’s like hoping their two favorite teams make the finals.

Beck: And so is the media. So is the media, strangely.

Greenwald: Oh yeah, they love… they’re just both establishment candidates.

This is a picture of two people completely in agreement, right? Well, not according to Greenwald, who is now trying to deny he agreed with Beck’s statement.

This is such a classic Greenwald sleaze move; when he’s called out for saying something gross, he invariably retreats behind legalistic nitpicks and nasty insults. You may not like Hillary Clinton or Jeb Bush, but to say there’s no difference at all between them is simply ludicrous — but Greenwald absolutely did agree with Beck on it.

And by the way, did gay pundit Glenn Greenwald have anything to say about Beck’s insane homophobic statements the day before, calling gay activists “Nazis” who were trying to stage “a Christian Holocaust?” Of course not, silly. Not a single word.

Glenn Greenwald’s fans were quick to defend him for appearing with Glenn Beck, by saying he’d bring the debate to Beck. But there isn’t a hint of a debate in the entire interview. They laugh and smile and agree with each other on basically everything; I don’t think I’ve ever seen Greenwald in such a bubbly mood, in fact. Even when Glenn Beck says at one point that America’s “Progressive Era” caused World War II, Glenn Greenwald has no response at all.

I don’t know which one of these fuckers I find more despicable. Beck who blames WWII on the American left rather than that guy with the bad mustache who he thinks everyone who disagrees with him is like and is a raging homophobic sexist racist asshole or Greenwald who time and time again is a condescending ass as shown in this conversation that you showed. And while I don’t have anything against ex-pats, I am tired of Glenn constantly second guessing our policies while he lives in Brazil. He also doesn’t bother offering any real solutions up.

And of course Greenwald never calls out Beck for being supportive of the same type of FP and surveillance policy he now condemns but was supportive of in the past under Bush and of course ignores Beck’s scapegoating of Muslims. These guys are both a couple of hypocrites. They don’t have principles. They just hate who’s running the country and that’s how they let their views on policy dictate.

I would wager that the Greenwald, Beck and Alex Jones audience overlaps quite a bit.

Greenwald has been on a tirade about people blindly supporting Israel as of late too, wonder why that didn’t come up in his conversation with Beck who has millions of listeners?

Physics has the question about what happens if the unstoppable meets the immovable. In this instance it’s a cultural analog. At first I thought this another matters/doesn’t matter implosion. But then I realized that neither man really matters anyway. So my conclusion is we have the irrelevant running into the unimportant. In their space you can hear the logic screaming in agony.

I think it is more of an issue of crossing the streams, the revenue streams.

Both Glenns have about tapped out their rubes and if the Glenn’s can cross pollinate then there is a new batch for both.

Setting aside the speculation that it’s a grift, it’s a great case study in why prejudice won’t be ended by “market forces” or “the free market.”

This isn’t even a situation parallel to Reconstruction or Jim Crow, where there was a quantifiable gain to a prejudicial system. This is literally people throwing money at any institution that reflects their prejudice.

What I can figure of Greenwald, there is no potential candidate for president that will satisfy his privacy concerns even though he can’t articulate them. Greenwald’s position as a bomb thrower since him leaving W’s bosom is complete and irrevocable.

That is where Greenwald is and where he will live, snipping from the edges, a Bradley Cooperish viewpoint from a wistful of Soviet style longing journalist.

Yes - but Twitter caches images when you first post a page, and they really like to hold on to them. It takes a couple of weeks for a change to show up, unfortunately.

Best practice is to make sure there’s a “meta” image in your post to start with, when you first publish it.

It’s basic preaching to the choir. Bill Maher’s lambasting of areas that tend to vote Republican is done in such a way as to play well with those on the left who want to feel smug and self-righteous. That and his being anti-vaccine is why he’s not that well-liked on LGF; Being smug around here gets you called out and down-dinged.

Maher & his guests are being the stereotypical limousine liberals about this, This is a problem that is effecting them and is in their front lines and Maher decides that the problem is almonds and how many gallons of water it takes to make an almond, Maher scoffingly promises to fore-go almonds.

This Texan gained no sympathy over the California drought crisis and the whole obnoxious thing made me repress schadenfreude

And in our “Man Bites Dog” column tonight, we have Chris Christie taking an action regarding a black woman that no one can say involves him being a dick:

NJ governor pardons Philly mom who crossed border with gun (VIDEO)

A Philadelphia woman who was arrested for driving into New Jersey with her concealed gun and permit was granted a pardon by the state’s governor on Thursday.

Shaneen Allen was arrested in October 2013 after being pulled over by a state trooper, who she told she was carrying a .380 Bersa Thunder handgun and permit in her purse.

Allen applied for pardon for the charges of carrying an unlawful weapon and ammunitio[sic]. After reviewing the case, Republican Gov. Chris Christie granted the pardon, clearing Allen of “all criminal charges and indictments arising from the arrest.”

“This pardon will allow me to move forward and properly support my family,” Allen said in a statement. “God has blessed me with the strength to make it through this unforeseen journey.”

New Jersey law doesn’t recognize gun licenses from other states and violators can face a three-year mandatory sentence.

Did Christie do this to court favor with pro-gun people? Hell yes he did! But its still good news for Shaneen Allen, who is a decent person who did merit the break she is being given. And I’ll take a decent person getting the forgiveness they deserve, even if agendas are involved.

///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Speaking of Hitler, your boy there in IL really embarrassed himself with the Munich 1938 comment regarding the Iran framework. I understand the parties put out daily talking points, but couldn’t “moderate” Sen. Kirk come up with something more original? Maybe even something constructive?

People who have to regurgitate “1938/Munich/Nazis” in every single foreign policy issue either have no clue what they’re discussing OR are simple hatchet men. Kirk isn’t a Palin/Perry retard, so I’ll assume it’s the latter.

It does a true disservice to us all to constantly pound the Neville Chamberlain analogy at every turn. First, its accuracy as an analog is rarely specific to the facts or really useful other than inflaming passions of older people who remember WWII. Second, it’s the kind of intellectually lazy BS that gets us into shitty wars. See Iraq, as there was plenty of talk of “Munich style appeasement” regarding those who opposed the war.

I’m not quite old enough to remember Vietnam, but I’d bet the super-hawks of the 1960s-70s used the same specious comparisons with respect to Hitler, Munich, etc. Then, as now, it allows one to shame dissenters as unpatriotic, while maintaining the national paranoia that is necessary when fighting a war of choice.

Both last evening and tonight I got 877 number calls. Let the call last night go to voice mail and when I checked the message it was a recording about … 99 cents, press one…. Deleted it. Tonight I answered out of curiosity, thinking it was some kind of sales call and I could tell them to stop calling. Getting the entire message I learn it’s from an inmate at the Harris Co jail and will I accept the collect call. I hung up.

Thought about it and called the number back. One option provided was to tell me who the call was from - that’s what I need. No help, said the info was unavailable. Another option was to block my number from any further calls, did that.

Bugging the hell out of me. I keep wondering if that’s a wrong number (most likely) or if it’s someone I know who got arrested. The latter would be a REAL short list under even the most unlikely circumstances. Then I think, if it is a friend, who would be a good enough friend I would bail out?

I figure of I never hear anything more, then it was a wrong number. If it was a friend, I’ll never hear the end of it.

And in Kansas, they are reaping what the whirlwind Brownback has sown….

2 Kansas school districts to close early because of budgets

Two school districts plan to end the academic year early to save money, citing financial pressures caused by reduced state aid for this academic year.

The Concordia school district will release students May 15, rather than May 21. And the Twin Valley School District, which includes Bennington and Tescott, will dismiss May 8, rather than May 20.

<snip>

Kansas school districts are facing financial pressures after losing $51 million they expected to receive for the current school year after Gov. Sam Brownback signed a school funding overhaul bill in March. The new school funding plan scraps the previous formula for determining state aid and replaces it with block grants, which will give districts a fixed amount of money for the next two years while the Legislature develops a new formula.

Asked about the cuts at a news conference Thursday, Brownback said he thought Concordia would have had to make the changes absent the funding overhaul because its reserves were low and it lost funding this year under the previous formula. He said districts like Concordia would benefit from the block grant plan over the next two years because funding will increase and districts will have more flexibility in spending.

People who sought to have the explicit images taken down were directed to changemyreputation.com and charged $250 to $350 to remove the racy content.

Victims included teachers, wives and professionals. The compromising photos cost people jobs, damaged relationships and led to one attempted suicide.

Bollaert earned about $900 a month in website ad revenue and collected about $30,000 from victims.

This is pretty damned close to what Chuck was proposing to do last night, open auction style.

The rather obvious problem, well one of many obvious problems with such a scheme is how could a victim ever trust that the information would stay suppressed. How do you put it up for sale so that people can see what kind of dirt is being bid upon without that dirt able to be copied and redistributed by anybody. I guess you could just make a blanket assertion and try to sell that, “Hey I’ve got pics of X tossing Y’s salad while Z watches, who want’s to pay?” That doesn’t really solve the confidence problem in the age of modern digital media, where there are no negatives and nobody can ever be sure that information has truly been suppressed or destroyed.

I called the number again and checked it out. It’s a real thing. Seems to be for inmates as opposed to someone who just got arrested and needs to be bailed out. So wrong number most likely.

For a very reasonable amount I can take care of this, make sure that it doesn’t happen again. Isn’t a small investment in your peace of mind worth it? You DO care about the safety of your family, what with the kinds of crazy people they let out of jail all the time, don’t you?

That’s probably where he got the idea. Read the sentencing and said, why not me?

Chuck thinks he found the magic loophole in extortion law. That Bollaert’s mistake was funneling the payment through a racket called “protectmyreputation.com” where the subject of the information what the person explicitly being shaken down for payment. In Chuck’s mind if he builds some level of plausible deniability, by ostensibly putting “exclusive” possession of the information itself up for sale to any interested party. That way if the only person truly interested in suppressing it, i.e. the victim, buys it then it’s magically not extortion, because reasons.

It’s no wonder Chuck has raised serious alarm bells with past donors. What he wants to build is a web enabled blackmail engine.

I think what Upchuck is missing with his little scheme is that you need to demonstrate that you actually have something of interest before someone would be willing to buy. The typical blackmail scheme requires showing the victim what you’ll expose if they don’t pay. How would this work with Upchuck’s web site?

Also, given Ginger Snapped’s record, what if the person buys the so-called information and discovers that it’s false or incorrect or just no big deal. Can they sue CCJ for fraud?

This could be amusing.

I’m sure he can find out a ton of info about his billionaire venture capitalists who are all lined up to give him money. A quick chat and passing them the envelope with the evidence will surely get him all the money he needs. (or 10-20 in a medium security federal institution).

The problem is that the threat is absolutely implicit in what he’s proposing. He doesn’t have to come out and say it because it’s built into his business model.

If Intelius or Zoominfo or any of the couple dozen or more background search websites thought they could get away with charging people to exercise their right to “opt out” of their databases does he really think those corporations wouldn’t have attempted to tap this revenue stream by now? Chuck is apparently stupid enough to think that the legal stakes will somehow diminish if the damaging nature of the information he wants to sell is made more explicit, and if the individual subject identities being doxed are openly advertised in an auction guide.

You don’t think all these “pros” like Loesch and her ilk are working this thing for nothing, do you?

It’s all political show business to them and the payday. Otherwise, there’s nothing to prevent the entire amount, minus whatever GoFundMe charges, to be sent directly to those poor victims in Indiana. ////

FBI: 3 KKK members charged in prison murder plot

m.news4jax.com

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -
Two current and one former prison employee who all belonged to the Ku Klux Klan planned to kill a black inmate as he was released in retaliation for a fight, state officials said Thursday.

“The three men — Thomas Jordan Driver, 25, David Elliot Moran, 47, and 42-year-old Charles Thomas Newcomb — each were arrested Thursday on one state count of conspiracy to commit murder, according to a statement from Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi’s office.

“Investigators said that late last year Driver handed a picture of the inmate, who was at that time out on supervised released, to an FBI informant who had infiltrated the Traditional American Knights of the Ku Klux Klan. Driver told the informant he had a fight with the inmate and both he and Moran wanted the former inmate “six feet under.” More

(Reuters) - Islamic State has taken control of 90 percent of a Palestinian refugee camp on the Damascus outskirts where 18,000 civilians have suffered years of bombing, army siege and militia control, a monitoring group said on Saturday.

“The hardline group’s offensive in Yarmouk gives it a major presence in the capital. Islamic State, the most powerful insurgent group in Syria, is now only a few kilometers from President Bashar al-Assad’s seat of power.

“The United Nations has said it is extremely concerned about the safety and protection of Syrians and Palestinians in the camp. Civilians trapped there have long suffered a government siege that has led to starvation and disease.” More

I can imagine that ISIL isn’t doing this out of charity, but for new recruits,

Jesus was executed by the Romans, he did not commit suicide. There is a difference between accepting death and killing oneself.

On one hand, the diff between a mere acceptance of death and a suicide is the intent on the part of the victim. Traditionally it is accepted that the death was intended by Jesus all along.

That said, a more apt comparison would be with self-sacrifice in order to save someone, which is traditionally not seen as sinful.

Here’s some Mando-pop from the 1970s. The singer is Deng LiJun, also known as Teresa Teng, who was a big, big star from the ’60s to the ’80s in East Asia, until her sudden death at age 42.

It’s one of the few Chinese KTV songs I can sing so far, since I know most of the characters and the tempo is languid.

The song is called “The Moon Represents My Heart,” a love song that’s been covered hundreds of times ‘round these parts.

English words: You ask me how deep my love for you is, How much I really love you… My affection is real. My love is real. The moon represents my heart. You ask me how deep my love for you is, How much I really love you… My affection does not waver, My love will not change. The moon represents my heart. * Just one soft kiss is enough to move my heart. A period of time when our affection was deep, Has made me miss you until now. * You ask me how deep my love for you is, How much I really love you. * ** Go think about it. Go and have a look [at the moon], The moon represents my heart.
Repeat * Repeat **

If an atheist “martyrs” her- or himself for a principle, they would be condemned as performing a selfish act, no? The rationale of such an act would not be accepted by the religious-minded because to them, there would be no reason to do so, those like Socrates notwithstanding, since “martyrdom” is a religious concept posited by early christians who wished to seem “christ-like” and has endured for centuries, even though also practiced by other religions.

At any rate, a reasonable person would have more of a sense of self-preservation than to commit such an act, wouldn’t they?

I guess what it amounts to is situation-sensitive. Martyrdom seems to me an end in itself and an act of faith that has importance as a symbol. But altruistic self-sacrifice is concerned with outcome.
To me the latter is a better impulse for one to have and can only come out as an extreme situation demands.
However, if you accept that Jesus could only have died violently in order to wash away the sins of humanity, I feel it must be viewed as altruistic.
This assumes, however, that God himself foresaw no other ‘fix’ for original sin which rather undercuts his supreme divinity.
I could be wrong. Lewis said he could also have been mad.

re: #302 Justanotherhuman

That may be so, but I’m lost here because I don’t see how this is connected to the initially discussed topic. Whatever label one uses, Jesus’ self-sacrifice in order to save humans from damnation is technically a suicide (“by cop”), but with an altruistic intent (like a soldier blocking a German pillbox with his body). Hence it is not a sinful form of suicide, condemned by the traditional Christianity.

Whether one calls him a martyr is quite beside the point.

It’s just my humble opinion that women are somewhat more protective of self and others (again, in a general sense) than men, on average, at least. It may be why women are not as much into risk taking as men and tend to be a bit more conservative in their daily lives. I don’t think it’s all socialization (because behavior can be learned, even that not in our own self-interest as we know) but also has a biological/emotional component.

When I was old enough to sort of understand about the marchers and sit-ins and freedom riders (maybe 8?), I discussed it with my parents. They were absolutely supportive of the civil rights movement, mailed in a few checks to assist, but never left home to participate physically. I wondered why they wouldn’t want to take part in something they spoke so passionately in favor of… mom’s answer was “we had small children. It was a very risky, very dangerous thing, plenty of people died in the effort. That sort of work is for people who either don’t have kids yet, or their kids are grown enough to not need them so much.” She was highly disappointed in her younger brother (never married, no kids) that he didn’t go.

7 San Francisco officers suspended over racist texts

news.yahoo.com

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Seven San Francisco police officers accused of sending racist and homophobic text messages have been suspended, and the police chief has recommended that they be fired.

‘Chief Greg Suhr announced Friday that he has asked a police oversight committee to approve firing the officers. Six others face disciplinary actions that include reassignment to positions that don’t have contact with the public. Another officer tied to the investigation already has resigned.

“The text messages “are of such despicable thinking that those responsible clearly fall below the minimum standards required to be a police officer,” Suhr said in a statement.” More

And it’s extra-super-true, if the person saying it requests that the person it is being said about file a lawsuit. And, if that person totally ignores the person making the allegation, it becomes super-duper-extra-specially-true.

So, everything Gawker, Politico, Deadspin etc. etc. etc. said about upchuck is true, right? Good to know.

Add law to the list of things upchuck apparently doesn’t have clue fucking one about.

Saw this today on FB, at least there are people pushing back against the hatred. Ironic that this was in Indiana.
