Rand Paul Should Not Be Given a Pass on His Long Relationship With Alex Jones

Dishonesty squared
Politics • Views: 37,882

I was amazed yesterday to read this article at Bloomberg by Dave Weigel about Rand Paul’s difficulties with the media, because Sen. Paul actually tries to pretend he barely knows who conspiracy lunatic Alex Jones is:

Paul’s careful presentation at rallies has contrasted with his media interviews, and with the attack ads from a hawkish 501(c)(4) that dig into interviews Paul gave years ago to the conspiracy-curious radio host Alex Jones. It was to Jones that Paul had said Iran posed “no threat” to America, for example. In an interview with Bloomberg News, asked whether he regretted talking to Jones, Paul demurred.

“I’ve been pretty open to doing a lot of interviews with a lot of different people,” he said. “And people want to characterize one or two of them, whether they’re on the right or left, you know, they’re welcome to do it. But I’ve been pretty open to doing interviews and it’s one way to get the information out.”

Asked if he listened to Jones’s show, Paul said that he simply didn’t listen to much news. “When I’m brushing my teeth in the morning I turn on the news channel,” he said, “but I’m busy all day.”

The dishonesty here is really quite stunning, because in fact Rand Paul didn’t just give “one or two” interviews to Alex Jones — he appeared on Jones’s insane radio show for very lengthy interviews over and over for years, and even tweeted links to Jones’s website, Infowars. For example, this tweet circulating an Infowars story about a bogus right wing conspiracy theory:

Media Matters put together a video, showing Jones and Rand Paul praising each other unreservedly; in one clip, Rand Paul even says to Alex Jones about his election to the Senate, “We can’t do it without you.”

YouTube

Here’s a video clip from Right Wing Watch showing Alex Jones bragging that he’s known Rand Paul for at least 18 years:

YouTube

Here’s an interview Rand Paul did with Alex Jones pushing a whole raft of wingnut conspiracy theories, even suggesting President Obama should be impeached.

YouTube

Seriously, folks, there’s so much of this stuff on YouTube it’s frankly ludicrous that Rand Paul would try to distance himself from Alex Jones at this point. He shouldn’t be allowed to do this, when he actually launched his career on Jones’s show by promoting crazed conspiracy theories.

Rand Paul on Bilderberg:

In 2010, before winning his Senate seat, Paul sat for an interview with Luke Rudkowski, a libertarian YouTube personality who specializes in quizzing political leaders about the plot to establish a “one-world socialist government.”* Rudkowski asked what Paul knew of the Bilderberg Group, a collection of government and business leaders whose annual conference is a favorite target of conspiracy-mongers. Paul replied, “Only what I’ve learned from Alex Jones.” That’s right: Alex Jones, the radio host who claims that Bilderberg is a key part of a global plot to create a “scientific dictatorship” that will exterminate the “useless eaters,” a.k.a. 80 percent of the human population.

Paul described the group to Rudkowski in unequivocally Jonesian terms, as “very wealthy people, who I think manipulate and use government to their own personal advantage. They want to make it out like world government will be good for humanity. But guess what? World government is good for their pocketbook.” The previous year, Paul had appeared on Jones’ radio show, noting that he had watched his host’s videos and expressing support for the effort to “expose people who are promoting this globalist agenda.” (In turn, Jones urged his listeners to send money to Paul’s Senate campaign.)

Paul was once a pal and confidant of Jones. But that was in the before times which don’t count when assessing a candidate’s suitability. Unless, of course, you’re Hillary Clinton, then, its the only thing that does matter.

One thing I’ve always found odd is that Freepers tend to take none too kindly to Alex Jones and his followers - which surprises me, as both groups have far more in common than they do in contrast.

Is it really just a matter of Jones’ trutherism that sets the Freepers teeth on edge? Or something else?

Russia would have liked to showcase the Armata and a host of other military technology to the foreigners who were supposed to be sitting in the VIP stand on May 9. The Kremlin had invited 68 leaders of foreign countries to the victory celebration, including the most important politicians in the Western world. So far, only 25 have accepted Moscow’s invitation. US President Barack Obama will not be attending, nor will British Prime Minister David Cameron or French President François Hollande. German Chancellor Angela Merkel will be there, but only on May 10, the day after the parade. TV images from Moscow will illustrate how isolated Russia has become as a result of its policy on Ukraine and its annexation of Crimea.

Good. The criminal dictator-prick is mostly isolated. Also, who wants to sit together with both Putin and Kim?

Jones wasn’t America fuck yeah after 9/11. Freepers yeah aren’t truthers usually. They would be if 9/11 had happened on a Democratic president’s watch mind you but where Jones sees 9/11 as FALSE FLAG, the Freepers saw 9/11 as rationalize to persecute Muslims.

Someone’s been smoking.

Rand Paul Is Republicans’ Best Hope to Beat Hillary

“…While Clinton has overwhelming support from Millennials who grew up under her husband’s administration, the growth of libertarian ideology1 among young voters may peel away some of Hillary’s reliable supporters, swayed by Paul’s “leave-me-alone-coalition” of voters, reluctance toward the use of military force abroad, support of medical marijuana legislation, his platform position on criminal justice reform, and his sometimes-unpolished appearance in interviews and stump speeches that connote a sense of “realness”2 that is uncommon in GOP candidates. Paul gains headlines for what he’s not: a non-threatening Republican with a cadre of platform stances that are nearer to obsolescence than relatability. His brand of digestible libertarianism3 is made for the post-Obama generation.”

Nah. It’s a common phenomena with all fanatics. They almost always hate one another more than they hate ‘the enemy’.

First because other fanatics are not ideologically pure but are part of the fanatics group. This make the other fanatics either false friends or fifth columnists.

Second and most important is that when the war is won and the world has been rebuilt in the way it had to be rebuilt those other fanatics are people the fanatics will have to share power with. That is not something fanatics wish to do, because as noted above those other fanatics can’t be trusted with it.

64 Nyet  Apr 14, 2015 11:23:36am

Whatever craziness Rev. Wright spouted did not rub off on Obama and that was just obvious from his demeanor, speeches, books, etc. Obama is not fanatically religious to follow some charismatic preacher without question anyway. It was more of a social function. He took the good parts and ignored the bad ones. So Wright was irrelevant. And although kooky, he was still nowhere close to Jones.

The things are quite a bit different with Paul and Jones, now that we learn that he even based his views on Bilderbergs on Jones’ crazy CT rants.

It depends. His pre-election speeches that were the initial issue could be seen as bad or merely too fiery, whatever - they didn’t necessitate the disavowal, and Obama didn’t disavow him back then.

Obama did disavow Wright later, based on his subsequent erratic behavior (the NPC presser, among other things).

But already after the election Wright also began saying antisemitic stuff. So there’s that.

Since, 2008, Bluewater’s publishing line has been addressing current events and releasing entertaining biographies of the men and women vying to become America’s next leaders, a fact which makes publisher and President Darren G. Davis proud. “Growing up, I was a reluctant reader. We hope to reach kids in similar situations that may be more apt to read when a comic book is placed in front of them,” said Davis. “I have guest taught in schools and found comic books to be an excellent way to reach children and young adults.” Davis also added that understanding the realm of politics may seem daunting to some. “It’s my hope that these informative and entertaining books teach readers about the candidates. Comic books have grown up; they’re not just for kids anymore.” Past subjects have included Michelle Bachmann, Barack Obama, Herman Cain, The Tea Party Movement, Mitt Romney, Sarah Palin and more. If you look at a lot of the fanart of Scooby Doo, it seems to me that the artists have forgotten that the villains the gang went up against were invariably con-artists, swindlers and grifters of some sort or another. Not real zombies, vampires, ghosts, Deep Ones, etc.

The thing about Wright is that after the initial sorta shock about his harsh rhetoric (“chickens coming home to roost” about 9/11, etc.) many people actually admitted that he had a point, even if he did express it in an unconventional way.

Bill Moyers had a moving in-depth interview with Wright, Obama in his race-relations speech excused Wright and explained the context of what he was saying in the light of the history of racial relations in the US. He was very forceful about *not* disowning Wright: “he has been like family to me. He strengthened my faith, officiated my wedding, and baptized my children. … I can no more disown him than I can disown the black community.”

It was only Wright himself who, through his behavior, ruined this and forced Obama to finally “disown” him.

1. This whole “The kids are going to support Rand Paul” stuff is just bullshit. I am around this age group, as is the spouse, every single day, constantly. The are simply not as stupid as the latest Conventional Wisdom thinks they are.

2. I wish with all my heart that people would pay as much attention to this as they did to the whole Rev. Wright nothingburger.

3. Do these guys have anything new, ever? I know it’s supposed to be a conservative group, but what’s next? Saying a candidate’s ancestor fought for the Redcoats in the Revolution so they’re unfit to be president?

4. I can’t decide which I’m going to need more of to get through the Republican primary: popcorn or alcohol.

5. Will someone please let all of these idiots know that President Obama is not on the ballot this time? They haven’t caught up yet. See #3.

5. The Prez will be the new Jimmy Carter for all future Democratic candidates. “Remember Obama!” I think a preemptive drinking game for the next 30 years is in order, starting now.

There’s not enough tequila in the world for this.

And I’m like oh wow I am so going to rip them big new ones…

Then I open the email and it is about the wheelchair pushers. Well, the wheelchair pushers work hard & I gave them big tips, I have no complaints against the wheelchair pushers.

I would have liked a wheelchair pusher in Prague when I had to hike to the very far end of Terminal 2 to pick up the lost bag and then hike all the way back to Terminal 1 to check in for the flight to Tel Aviv.

If I’m reading the article correctly, this is a revised bill that would simply acknowledge that Congress will have to vote on lifting sanctions at a later date, but would not allow the Senate an actual vote on accepting the deal itself. It would also move up the review date to meet the June deadline.

I await far better legal minds than my own to rule as such, but on its face, I think it a fair compromise.

When I see people like Chuck Todd interview Rand Paul on Meet The Todd and then pose in a picture with his arm wrapped around him later I said God Damn America!!!
