In Which Award Winning High-IQ Journalist Chuck C. Johnson Threatens to Shoot Me

Deranged

Chuck C. Johnson posing with his best friend

Our article about pseudo-journalist Chuck C. Johnson’s “men’s rights advocate,” Jeremiah True (who was arrested on Thursday for sexual abuse of under-age girls at a rugby practice session) apparently got the Ginger Avenger quite upset, sending him into a multi-tweet tirade filled with insults and personal attacks. So, win!

In the course of his defensive ranting, Johnson denied being a supporter of Jeremiah True, while accusing me of having a “connection to [a] convicted terrorist.”

Chuck soon followed up this denial that he supports Jeremiah True, with another tweet explicitly supporting Jeremiah True:

Note that Chuck is defending a 20-year old man who made advances to under-age girls. And by the way, True didn’t just “touch her arm:” Reed College Student Jeremiah True Pleads Not Guilty to Sex Abuse, Harassment Allegations | OregonLive.com

True walked off, talking to himself, but returned to the park about 30 minutes later and approached a 17-year-old female and touched her breast with his open hand, and make a remark about her chest, the affidavit said.

Several witnesses restrained True until police arrived.

Portland police Officer E. Lamonte Johnson said True’s pupils were constricted and he was responding irrationally to questions and appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance, deputy district attorney Andrew Freeman wrote in the probable cause affidavit.

On that “connection to a terrorist” accusation, I didn’t know immediately what he was talking about. But he soon made it more explicit:

Not this again.

This is apparently the go-to smear against me when people like Chuck have no answer to criticisms — and it’s utterly false. My most recent answer to this spurious accusation was in this post, when Glenn Greenwald dug it up and tried to use it against me: In Which Glenn Greenwald Smears Me by Citing a Faked Graphic at a Far Right Hate Site.

There’s a lot of detail in that post, but all you really need to know is in this quote from Breivik’s manifesto, contained in one of dozens of articles he included by anti-Muslim nutcase “Fjordman,” making it very clear that, far from “loving” me, mass murderer Anders Breivik and the people he truly admired (people like Robert Spencer, Pamela Geller and “Fjordman”) considered me a traitor to his sick ideology and despised me:

But Chuck wasn’t done ranting yet. One of the things he likes to do, like many people who engage in stalking, is accuse the target of his stalking (in this case, me) of being the “real” stalker. Note that this is the guy who searched public records for my home address, went to an apartment where he thought I lived (although I hadn’t lived there for more than 10 years), took photos of himself posing outside the apartment building — apparently to scare me out of criticizing him — and posted them on Twitter: Right Wing Blogger Chuck C. Johnson Is Now a Real Live Stalker.

But he didn’t simply libel me as a stalker; nope, this time Chuck went further and actually threatened to shoot me.

And that still wasn’t the end of Chuck’s deranged attacks; he then proceeded to invent a wholly libelous (and false, of course) claim that I “prey on young men.”

And remember, folks, this is the same person who threatens to sue everyone who criticizes him. I saved a screenshot of Chuck’s tweet in case he deletes it (but he probably won’t, because he actually seems proud of this kind of nastiness).

This is now documented, for the record.

Oh course, we have adequate proof that CCJ doesn’t know how to tell time.

Between the latest and his HIV claim, you could make a case for libel. Oh course, that’s assuming anyone would agree he has the power to damage your reputation.

I’d chip in for a Gofundme to sue the asshole. He deserves it.

Hmm. Let’s see if that would have been possible.

Assume a whirlwind courtship (6 months) and baby comes a little early (6 months after the wedding). Then if that kid had a kid at 18, they’d be turning 18 this year.

So I guess possible.

But I am turning 29 for the second time.

Guy replies “Heck, this is nothing compared to the heat and humidity around Chicago in the summer”. Devil gets frustrated, decides to go the opposite route. Drops the temperature to -50 degrees. Checks the guy from Chicago, discovers he’s dancing for joy. Devil asks why he’s so happy, guy replies: “Hell is frozen over, the Cubs musta won the World Series”.

Actually, this wasn’t Anders Breivik ranting at all — it’s a quote from an article by Fjordman that Breivik included in his manifesto. Breivik himself never wrote a single word about me, or ever referred to me by name — not in his manifesto and not in his trial. Although at his trial, he did credit Robert Spencer, Pamela Geller, Andrew Bostom, and others in the so-called “anti-jihad movement.” It’s very clear who Breivik really did admire, and it wasn’t me.

This is simply an evil smear — character assassination. And it’s exactly opposite to the truth.

There’s a dogwood tree planted next to the building across the street from me, but it’s not blooming yet (the dogwoods are one of the early bloomer up here).

It’s a conspiracy. Now that I have a decent camera & macro lens, NJ decides to skip spring and move straight into summer (it was 80° yesterday).

32 Charles Johnson  Apr 19, 2015 1:26:25pm

The people who repeat this character assassination attack like to point out that there are about two dozen links to LGF contained within Breivik’s manifesto. What they never mention is that all those links are in articles by other people, not by Breivik — and that there are just as many links to articles at the New York Times, The Independent, and other news sources.

Breivik included many blog posts by Fjordman and other “anti-jihad” lunatics, but not a single article from LGF.

33 RealityBasedSteve  Apr 19, 2015 1:27:21pm

This is simply an evil smear — character assassination. And it’s exactly opposite to the truth.

At this point, being smeared by CCJ would pretty much be a badge of honor, no? The only people likely to believe anything he says are pretty much either 1) gullible right-wing fools who believe anything negative about “the other side” to bolster their own unhinged worldview;
2) low-information newbies to online discussions and politics, who lack the context to evaluate such patently false claims.

Group #1 is a lost cause. You cannot sway them with logics, you cannot convince them with facts.

Group #2 can be broken down into subgroups a) those with critical thinking faculties, who will click around and discover for themselves what a tool CCJ is and b) those without critical thinking abilities, who will accept what CCJ says without question.

You only need worry about Group #2(b).

About 10 years ago a local show promoter went on the air and told a story about having to shepherd Jim Mangrum around Dallas when he was in town for a show - this was waaaaaay after Black Oak Arkansas’s heyday, it was like in the 90’s.

He said Mangrum made him buy a massive amount of junk food and pornographic magazines, then left him alone in a hotel room for a couple of hours before the show. When the promoter went to pick him up for the show, the entire hotel room was covered in empty snack food wrappers and diarrhea.

I still keep that 2nd edition handy. This is their full text for BOA after giving every record a one-star review:

“Mindless gutbucket boogie hooked around the mealy-voiced antics of lead singer Jim Dandy Mangurm. Black Oak’s distinguishing characteristic is that the band has three guitarists who collectively don’t even add up to one good one. The pits of hard-rock senescence.”

The reviews of The Doors, The Grateful Dead, and Neil Young are delicious…

Poison Frogs Are Some Long-Winded Singers

The little devil frog, Oophaga sylvatica, a toxic frog native to Colombia and Ecuador, is learning to sing straight into the face of fear, singing longer and louder despite the fact that numerous predators are more likely to hear it.

According to a study recently published in the journal Proceedings of the Royal Society B, that’s because this little devil is extremely confident in its bright coloring, which warns nearby predators of its intense toxicity.

Confident that all but the most reckless of predators will leave it alone, devil frog males were found to be very willing to risk their lives for the chance that a nearby lady frog will hear its love ballads. […]

Among poisonous frogs, females also select for those that were most toxic, meaning they hone in on the loudest and most confident singers. The length of a song also helps them find the most healthy and fit males. […]

He added that the toxicity of these frogs is not actually genetic, as they develop high toxicity and a bright aposematism based on how much poisonous alkaloid they get from their insect diet. Selecting for confident singers then may actually be helping females find the most genetically superior hunters. […]

When I look back at all the Confederate flags, ugh. Hell, one of the high schools I went to had a “Johnny Reb” mascot complete with the flag. I can only imagine how the few black students at the school felt. Naturally, at that age I was pretty much oblivious to such things.

One thing I noticed in my trip down to Richmond, over to Norfolk, and up through the Delmarva Peninsula on the way home was that outside of a historical context in Richmond I didn’t see any Confederate flags until I got back up to the Mason-Dixon line and a few stores had them out since they “themed” that way.

Also did not see that many in my trip in March down in Florida, Alabama, and the Carolinas. So I guess you have to get more rural to see them in any number, or it’s just the idiots who are out and about waving them.

There’s a house at the edge of Rockwall, TX, probably in an area that is not part of the city, where the owner is flying every flag that has the Confederate battle flag in it, including state flags. I went down the street once to help my dad move a piece of furniture for a client of his (my dad does carpentry) and I was creeped out being on that street and wanted to leave as soon as possible. I can’t imagine what a black person would feel like there.

As a resident of the South (MS), I can confirm that Confederate flags are still pretty common in these parts, though they are more commonly seen in rural, mostly white areas. The local Christmas parade in a nearby community of 3000 featured a pick up decorated for the holidays and adorned with a couple of Confederate flags.

The frenetic race to garner the know-nothing vote continues:

Marco Rubio doubts manmade global warming, says ‘climate is always changing’

Florida Republican Sen. Marco Rubio, who announced his presidential candidacy last week, told Bob Schieffer of CBS News on Sunday that he does not believe in manmade global warming. Instead, Rubio said he recognizes the climate is changing, but that scientists have not determined what percentage of such changes are due to human activities, such as burning coal, oil and gas for energy, compared to natural climate variability.

[…]

“I do not believe in climate change in the way that some of these people out there are trying to make us believe,” Rubio said. “I believe the climate is changing because there’s never been a moment where the climate is not changing.”

There was some talk in the last thread about tanks and tanks destroyers. I was curious and I poked around a little and came across a doctoral thesis about tank destroyer doctrine. It’s reasonably interesting. The thesis seems to have ignored the fact that the tank destroyer force was built for a defensive purpose but used by an army on the offensive. Whatever. Anyway, what made it special to me was the appearance of the phrase “super duper new tank destroyer” in a doctoral thesis.

Consider Kentucky. It expanded coverage starting in 2014, and 375,000 Kentuckians have signed up. A study released in February from Deloitte Consulting LLC and the University of Louisville’s Urban Studies Institute found that the expansion will add $30 billion and 40,000 jobs to the state’s economy through 2021.

Perhaps even more notable, the additional costs for Kentucky in later years, as federal funding ratchets back, will be more than covered by savings for state and local governments in other health-care programs and additional taxes generated by the expansion. That means Kentucky taxpayers will end up ahead, not behind, by expanding health care.

A huge benefit to Kentucky is ACA’s very positive impact on our employment rate (link to PDF) for health care related jobs.

The MB has now reached Gadhafi levels of despotism.

Although the statue does make Forrest look appropriately demonic.

There was a lot of controversy when it was erected. It’s on private property and is owned by a rich attorney here. Over the years the flags have gotten worn down to just tatters. When the first drawings of it came out, it looked more like metal, and when it was unveiled nobody could believe how ugly it was. It’s truly awesome in terms of level of ugly.

Brevik’s horrific acts of mass murder comprised the worst terrorist attack seen in the West in the last 10 years. As such, he stands as a horror whom dishonest people on both sides are all too eager to pin on anyone they can who is in opposition to them.

You know, he named names, so it’s not hard to “pin” him on those names.

I’m absolutely exhausted, but I’m certified as Rescue Diver now. Not so much diving as doing a swimming tow with somebody with full gear 50 yards, getting them out, doing search patterns underwater. Then doing it again.

Probably the toughest class I’ve taken in terms of what was required physically, mentally running checklists and trying to get victim into the shore while doing rescue breaths and also trying to strip their gear off.

Now I start my professional level certifications next. :)

You know, he named names, so it’s not hard to “pin” him on those names.

True, but some people decided that they’d rather satisfy their hate-du-jour by associating someone they had a rage-fixation on instead of carefully looking through Brevik’s screed to ID malefactors.

Thus wingnuts eager to take down Naomi Klein harped on the fact that Brevik had twice quoted her book The Shock Doctrine. Similarly, moonbats who despised Mark Steyn seized upon Brevik having also quoted Steyn’s America Alone twice.

Both targettings were pure put-up jobs: Whatever their failings, neither Klein nor Steyn had ever endorsed mass murder of political opponents and both immediately condemned Brevik’s terrorism without reservation. but they still had to put up with tendentious attacks by people who were less interested in facts than in sliming those they disagreed with. The facts did matter in the end, but often it takes a while for them to sink in.

in the case of Charles, its just that same kind of sliming: The people doing it are practicing what National Post columnist Jonathan Kay calls “Failed Historian” type conspiracism. They think their idea of what ‘should be’ is so important it trumps the facts, so they try to rewrite history selectively. Their beef with Charles is that he won’t simply ignore stupidity and hatefulness just because its from the faction he mostly agrees with.

The principle “quoted/approved by a monster therefore a monster” is obviously a logical fallacy.

In order for it not to be a complete fallacy one should show how the monster’s horrible views stem from the quoted person’s positions in a non-trivial way (i.e. beyond “2+2=4”). It’s not hard to show why the likes of Geller and Spencer were inspirations for Breivik. I haven’t read Steyn, and I suppose he wasn’t a primary inspiration, but he sure should do a lot of soul-searching.

re: #100 SteveMcGaziBolaGate

There was some talk in the last thread about tanks and tanks destroyers. I was curious and I poked around a little and came across a doctoral thesis about tank destroyer doctrine. It’s reasonably interesting. The thesis seems to have ignored the fact that the tank destroyer force was built for a defensive purpose but used by an army on the offensive. Whatever. Anyway, what made it special to me was the appearance of the phrase “super duper new tank destroyer” in a doctoral thesis.

Then there was the whole two-engine long-range fighter fiasco—”Zerstörer” (Destroyer) was the German term. Every country with an Air Force seems to have suffered from this delusion during the ’30s, but the Germans, having rearmed early, were the only ones who really went to war with them—long-range, heavy fighters not maneuverable enough to win a dogfight with a real fighter. IOW, “escorts” that needed an escort themselves.

195 Charles Johnson  Apr 19, 2015 4:50:34pm

The only difference between Steyn and Geller is that Steyn isn’t quite as stupid. In a way that makes what he does even more despicable.

Mark Steyn also gave Pamela Geller one of my private emails to him, in which I asked him not to attend a Geller event. He went to the event anyway, and then violated my privacy. Mark Steyn is a typical far right asshole. And a frequent substitute host for Rush Limbaugh, by the way.

It’s great news if you’re Jerry Jones. One of their most hated rivals is now saddled with four — count ‘em — QB’s. Nobody needs four QB’s.

What Philly should do is unload a couple of QB’s and send them to Houston. The Texans would have a decent team if they didn’t have so many problems at the quarterback position.

True. His case sounds more like someone just lashing out in pain. But when that lashing out goes from involving words to involving a closed fist, the hammer has to come down.

As for the shame chorus, Clarkson’s style and antics made him a lot of enemies. Leonard Maltin has put it best: “Be nice to the people you meet on your way up in Hollywood, because you’re going to meet them all again on your way down.”

Well no, they could hold their own, provided they were not being held on a leash or carrying an external load. In fact, Bf 110 units actually had a better success rate than units flying Bf 109s. Germans just fell victim to the same problem that the Americans did with the P-51, namely their fighters being leashed to the bombers rather than being allowed to hunt enemy fighters on their own terms.

True, they found their niches pretty well. The M3 did well in the Pacific where Japanese tanks were rare or non-existent. And the P-40 was an excellent fighter-bomber in North Africa, where it was on equal terms with the Italian and German fighters it encountered. It’s been discussed here before, Frank, so yes, I know.

So you realize that when you say stuff like “damn Saddam” you’re just blaming the scorpion for being a scorpion. All while ignoring Reagan’s (the iconic President of your own party) role in the supply chain, along with Rumsfeld’s (who GWB later put in charge of our nation’s defense.) See, the reason this is fucked up is because you’d clearly rather sweep this under the rug rather than hold the people you continue to have a party affiliation with to the higher standard. A standard one might normally expect from the leaders and representative of an actual democracy, and not, say, a Baathist dictator.

Still some “antiques” did better than others. The M3 Stuart and P-40 Warhawk come to mind.

Sometimes it worked. This is what doomed the state-of-the art Bismarck.

I disagree to the extent that Steyn has always made clear that terrorism and mass murder are never acceptable.

Wow, congrats to Steyn on his remarkable heroism.

F-35 says, “What?”

Actually, its says “I have an integrated IRST and stealth features.” And those put together should make it quite good at sneaking into close-range and then firing at enemy aircraft who did even know the Lightning IIs were there.

Note the name, for in many ways the mission profile of the F-35 is that of the P-38, the original Lightning.

The current issue of the NY Review of Books has a very informative precis by Jessica T. Mathews about the Iran nuclear negotiations, which I recommend to the lizaradi, and anyone else with at least half a brain in their skulls.

For me, the standout observation in Ms. Mathews’ piece is,

Even supporters of [bombing Iran’s nuclear facilities] do not believe that it would do more than delay Iran’s progress by more than two to four years. It would certainly unite all Iranians around the absolute necessity of having a nuclear deterrent. It would strengthen Iran’s hard-liners, radicalizing its politics and probably prolonging clerical rule. While the bombed facilities were being rebuilt, with more of them being put securely underground, there would be no inspectors or cameras. Outsiders would know far less than they do now about what is being built and where or how close Iran had come to producing a bomb. Soon another round of bombing would be necessary.

The P-38 did alright for a twin engine fighter. It could get out of trouble as fast as it got into trouble.

The “forked tailed devil” had one heck of a record.

Yep, though against her consort, the Prinz Eugen during the Channel Dash the Swordfish failed. But that was because despite having one of the pilots who’d hit the Bismarck leading the attack, the Swordfish in the Channel had to contend with enemy fighters and brutally dense light AA from escorting destroyers, torpedo boats, and E-Boats.

The thread got me to look into the Fairey Swordfish. It was basically obsolete when delivered, but this link has a discussion of its impact. The thing really punched above its weight.

It actually stay in service longer than its planned successor, the Fairey Albacore (which its crews often called the ‘Applecore’).

The “forked tailed devil” ha one heck of a record.

Of course the first several highest-scoring Allied aces during WWII mainly used what Chuck Yeager called “The finest aircraft I’ve ever flown”. Didn’t count ‘cause they were Rooskis, of course, and the planes were Lend-Lease Bell P-39 Airacobras.

US Pilots were too good for them because they looked funny.

If you’re a fan of WWII, biplanes, and battling the patriarchy: Night Witches role playing game. It looks totally badass.

In play you will alternate between day and night, with unique moves for each. Days are about renewal and interpersonal conflict, and nights are about hair-raising bombing missions on historically accurate targets across the Soviet Union, Poland, and, in the end, Germany. Missions are crazy dangerous and you have to make hard choices constantly. And when they end, a whole new kind of danger is waiting back at the airbase—paranoid secret police, sexist Red Army officials who want you to fail, and chronic supply shortages are just the beginning of your troubles.

As I’ve mentioned a couple of times before, my dad was a career Air Force NCO, 95% of that spent in the U-2 program, and his all-time favorite plane was the feisty li’l Lockheed T-33.

That Chuck C. Johnson (who is most definitely not you) disgusts me. I mean it in a literal way. He actually makes me feel physically ill.
